My wife and I contracted Castle Flooring to renovate the majority of the flooring in our just purchased home as the previous owner allowed her dogs to urinate on all the carpeting and flooring. As well having cleaned the engineered wood floors with Murphy's oil. Let's just say that they had a lot of work ahead of them. My wife & I couldn't be happier with the process or results. Julian & Stephanie was attentive to the entire process. From selecting the flooring material, to the demolition, installation and dealing with my specific needs of converting the media room flooring to one that would serve me in my work as a mix engineer. The quotes provided were accurate and concise, letting me know all the attendant costs in advance. The installer he had handle our project was professional, and detail oriented. Both the installer and Julian took care to make sure to keep me apprised of the progress, challenges and any unforeseen issues. I would recommend Castle flooring for your flooring renovation work without any reservations. Castle flooring is simply the best flooring company you could choose to work with. read more

Our family has worked with Castle Flooring 2 times before, and they just finished a third project for us. Photos attached. Consistent with our previous experiences, Julian and Celso were great. There was a soft spot in the floor of our small bathroom in our pier and beam house. The soft spot turned out to be rotten wood, and the entire floor had to be ripped out. The subfloor was replaced and reinforced. The entire floor was replaced, new shower pan installed, glass removed and reinstalled, some new shower tile, etc. Julian and Celso went above and beyond to help make this project as easy as possible for us while managing costs. Castle Flooring is our go-to for any future flooring needs we may have. read more

Julian listened to us, and helped us pick the perfect floor. Big sexy black porcelain tiles that look like slate. Installation was fast and his installers did a beautiful job. yes, it's a little more expensive than a big box store -- but so worth it! We are very happy to refer him to anyone looking for a quality floor to upgrade your space. read more

I contacted Julian when my cat bit through a kitchen water filter pipe under the sink and caused a leak to go undetected for a week on the wooden kitchen floor. I thought that I would need to replace majority of the kitchen floor. When Julian came out, he was professional, communicative and really easy to work with - we would do calls as well as text messaging, which was easy in avoiding phone tags. He recommended replacing the worst affected floor boards and worked with me on ordering the replacement parts. He went into detail on the work that would be done and on the pricing and gave his reasons for what he recommended to do. The job only took one morning and the replacement boards look exactly like the original ones and it's almost impossible to tell that they were replaced. I would highly recommend Castle Flooring for all your flooring issues. read more

Over the past few years, we have worked with Julian and his team at Castle Flooring on several flooring projects, and also referred them to several other customers who have used them as well. Julian's communication, experience, attention to detail and focus on quality are unmatched versus other contractors we have had for other projects. His install team is wonderful to work with, and did a great job on our floors. We plan to continue to use Castle Flooring for any future flooring project that we have. read more

I'd give this no stars if I could, but then I wouldn't be able to leave my review. BEWARE: THE OWNER JULIAN DOESN'T HAVE A DAMN CLUE WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!!! I was told over the phone by Julian that the thinset removal process they use was a dust free procedure and that's what they were going to use. 9:30am on Saturday rolls around and the one person who was going to remove the tile and thinset shows up with A TOOL RENTAL FROM HOME DEPOT!!! You'd thinking being a flooring company that they would have the proper materials to get the job done. NOPE!!! I immediately stop the guy from removing any further tiles to ask him what the procedure was to remove the thinset, he said they he was just going to chip away at the thinset with a demo hammer attachment! Keep in mind, I was installing concrete floors, so I needed the floor to be pretty smooth. I tell the guy at my house that Julian told me that they were going to use a floor grinder with a vacuum attachment to remove the dust from the house and blow it outside. None of this was true when his assistant showed up to do the work! Make sure you clarify with Julian before you sign anything what the procedure is before the job is even started! read more

Castle Floors did a fantastic job with the backsplash in our kitchen. Stephanie was very helpful in the store, but also gave us plenty of room to look around and come up with what we wanted with absolutely zero pressure. Julian spent a lot of time, at the end of what I'm sure had been a long day for him, measuring our kitchen and discussing with us options for how to tile everything. He was super thorough and thought of everything we didn't think of! For example, he proposed that we tile around the inside of our window rather than putting on a windowsill. It looks amazing! When we discovered that one of the tiles we picked had been discontinued, Julian called around the country trying to find stock. When they were nowhere to be found, he talked through options with us and I think really helped us pick the best one. When the tile was delayed on arriving, he was in constant contact with us letting us know when it would arrive, even on his day off. Once the tile arrived and it was time to get to work, Jose, the tile installer, was so professional. He is truly an artist at what he does and worked a very long day to make sure our kitchen would still be done quickly despite the delay on the tile delivery. He made such tiny cuts to fill in around our ceiling and window, and constantly went above and beyond to make sure our tile was perfect. When Jose was done, Julian came back, throughly inspected everything with me, and made sure I was happy. He also made it clear if we discovered anything in the future, that they would come out and fix it. I cannot recommend Castle Flooring enough! read more

Julian and Stephanie are outstanding people and very reliable and professional. They have a beautiful selection of materials to choose from. Julian and Victor did an amazing job of remodeling my kitchen. They removed some ugly old tile and replaced it with a seamless installation of a beautiful new design. Their pricing is very fair and they left the house perfectly clean. I can't say enough positive things about Castle Flooring. Many thanks! read more

I called Julian at Castle Flooring today for his advice on steam mops for our tile floor and remembered that my husband and I never did post a review for the floor they put into our house in January of 2006. This is really bad on our part because we have loved our floor every single day since it was installed. Castle Flooring installed ceramic tile flooring on every floor surface inside our house (approx. 1250 sq. ft.) Some people said we should install the tile ourselves but this was going to be a huge job: removing a wooden floor in the living room, removing all the baseboards, prepping our track-house foundation for the tile (it was a mess), installation of the tile, and installation of new baseboards. Additionally, there was A LOT of tile to purchase. Buying the tile alone was going to be costly and we only had the money to do it right the FIRST TIME. Replacing the flooring in our house was definitely beyond our "do-it-yourself" scope. We needed a pro and boy did Castle Flooring deliver! They were absolutely on schedule for each phase of the job. We paid exactly what was quoted. Communication was great and there was not one surprise throughout the transaction. From day one I was delighted with the finished product. The skill and detail work that Castle Flooring put into our floor continues to delight me 4 years later. Sometimes I'll open up a closet I don't go into often and see the detail on the floor and just think "WOW"! We have never regretted one penny we spent on this floor. Castle Flooring's professionalism, experience, and product resulted in satisfaction with our home that keeps on growing. A few details for the curious: My husband is a professional gardener and I do administrative work. We are very middle-class people. However, knowing we could afford to put this floor in only once, for the first time ever we hired an interior decorator to help with the overall selection of the flooring. She pulled all our priorities into focus and provided guidance on the recommended type of flooring, color, and size of tile. Julian at Castle Flooring assisted with the final selections of tile and grout and also with the final decision on the placement pattern we chose for the tile (we upgraded to an offset pattern since the areas being tiled were so large). It was Winston Churchill who said "I am easily satisfied with the very best." Well, prepare to be satisfied because with Castle Flooring, you are, in fact, getting the very best. read more

What a fantastic selection of tile and flooring! Great personal, customer service, too! Stephanie and Julian are very knowledgeable and professional. This is a true design center. I was looking for a specific Coretec flooring and Castle was the only showroom that carried in-store samples of the entire line. Stephanie helped me coordinate my fireplace tile and kitchen backsplash tile (including grout color) with the flooring I chose. She has such a keen, artistic eye for color and style, and provided me with great options for the look I wanted. I appreciate all the time she spent in answering my questions and emails. I never felt pressured or rushed. She made planning my project fun and stress-free. I love the result and would not hesitate to return for help on another project. read more

My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for some tile ideas for a renovation we are doing. We have spent the last month looking at tiles, concrete stains, cabinets and many other things. As far as tile: we were considering tile backsplash in the kitchen, full shower tile and tile flooring. We pass by Castle Flooring alot and finally decided to go in and check it out. We didn't know what to expect. We didn't know anyone that even knew about the place. The tile samples they have out in front aren't exactly our style, the place is pretty small and the sign out front about the Antique Shop can throw off even the most determined customer. We walk in, greeted by a 3 year old, Julian and his wife. Julian walked up to us and asked us the typical retail question "Is there anything I can help you with today?" And frankly we weren't real sure if he could since we were having a hard time verbalizing what we wanted exactly. So I spoke up and basically told him just that. "We are not sure what we want, we aren't even sure tile is the way we want to go. But wanted to check out our tile options. We have an idea of a style that we like. Is that enough for you to go on?" Julian was very patient. He had us sit down and began asking the questions: What point are you in the project? What basic style are you going for in the condo? Are you looking for floor, shower or backsplash tile? With regard to kitchen, are you looking for dark or light colored cabinets? What type of countertops (they sell ceasarstone)? Will you have undercounter lighting? We found we were able to give answers to most of the questions. He gave us some really great ideas for mixing and matching tile color and size. He really brought together alot of our ideas and gave us the big picture for the condo. He started putting together a palate of tiles that we were really happy with. He let us take the samples home. This gave us the opportunity to match paint, think about furniture, look at the colors in the natural light of the condo and some of the other things we needed to do. We kept the samples for about 2 weeks, it was time for the next step. Get Julian to the condo so we could start the process of figuring out costs, quantity and what would truly work in the condo. We scheduled Julian to come out to the condo. We scheduled the meeting for 8am during a weekday. Julian calls my boyfriend at 8am that day saying "Hi _____, this is a courtesy call to remind you about our meeting this morning.[HUH?] I'm on my way to your condo. I should be there in a few minutes." 30 minutes later [How did he get that wrong?] we see him walk up to the front of the building. He was neither apologetic nor seemed to think it was a big deal that he was 30 minutes late to our scheduled meeting. Have you ever been 30 min late to a business meeting? I bet you didn't get that deal! We get to the condo and we start introducing the space to him. He immediately asks about the floor tile and we say to him that we've decided to do stained concrete floors so we just need shower tile and kitchen backslash tile. Suddenly he is void of ideas for the space, he measured only one corner of one wall in the entire place and sent us in a completely different direction from the original tile selection we had for the bathrooms. My boyfriend and I were less than impressed by this meeting with him. He told us he would call us with a quote for the materials and labor by the next morning. We have yet to hear from him, it's been about 2 months. Needless to say once a few days passed and we hadn't heard from him we took his original ideas, picked out the tile from "The Tile Guy", who BTW has the BEST prices in town that we found, and found someone else to do the work for us. We think he got pissed that we decided not to do the floor in tile, and then just didn't want the job because of that reason. The floor would have been his money maker, 'cause it's easier than shower tile. We still would have liked a 'courtesy call' from him to let us know that he didn't want the job because it wasn't what he was expecting. I have to say that our experience with construction contractors/sub-contractos in general has left a very, very, very bad taste in our mouths. They care nothing for the work that you've put into a space or for your time. We have had to redo work that's already been done by either us or other contractors, because these people only care about getting to the next job. They have been consistently late in starting a job or meeting with us to straighten out details of a job. Why is this kind of shoddy service acceptable in this industry? This means you too Castle Flooring! read more

I want in with a client to look for new flooring today and I believe she was the owner of the shop who I was dealing with. First off I had to ask her to help me which I think she should be asking if I have any questions or need help. Which she did not. Second, I'm looking for new flooring for a rental property and wanted to find a rental grade flooring that being carpet or hardwood. She showed me what was on the floor and I asked "do you have anything possibly a lower grade just for a rental or do I need to go somewhere else" Her response "well you don't need to be so abrasive" I told her that I was sorry I'm just direct and that I'm trying to figure this out today. She then proceeded to tell me that my personality is rude and abrasive Let me just say being a business owner that I would never tell any customer this. Ever! You have a product to sell lady and you aren't good at it! I will never take a client into this store again!! Thanks for your response. You should really work on that. People - look at the 'filtered' reviews. Basically 24 five star reviews. Many of them more 'qualified' than the 2 negative ones here that were allowed (hmmmm)..... Make sure you take those into consideration as well. Anyways, Julian is great. I completely remodeled my bathroom and got all the tile from Julian. He was very helpful, very nice, very timely, professional, and affordable. I've been in his store no less than 8 times now and will be going back for some wall tile. Each time the same - great. I shopped around a lot to tons of tile places. His service is at the top. I admit, it helps that his location is so near my house, but that should apply to anyone looking for tile down south who doesn't want to travel to the tile corridor way up north. Thats an obvious bonus. However the fact that he was also as good as anyone up north just sealed the deal (if not better than all them). read more

Cannot rave about Castle Flooring enough! We went to just about every flooring store in the Austin area, and Castle Flooring had the absolute best customer service and a very large selection of flooring. Stephanie went above and beyond to help us choose the perfect floors for our new home. Stephanie is the epitome of a customer service expert, was willing to let us bother her over text message about all of our questions, and made ordering the flooring and shipment a breeze. Castle Flooring is a family-owned business, run by great people. We recently had them do two bathroom tile floors and a kitchen backsplash for us in an effort to spruce up our place prior to listing it for sale. Julian was exceptionally informative, had great ideas about how to lay the tile for the best visual impact, and the price charged was well under what we initially expected. He even steered us to a less expensive flooring option than the one we picked initially because he thought it was a better fit for our needs. He was right - it's excellent. The installer he sent over took longer than we had initially expected, but that was because he took extra time to install everything properly and make sure it was perfect. This was a point of consternation at the time, but turned out to be for the better. The job looks great, and the beautiful floors and backsplash helped us to sell our house in 4 days, well above asking price. We will absolutely use them for flooring work in our new home, and will recommend them to any friends who need work done. read more

I bought a condo last year and needed some extra tiles to match what is currently throughout the condo. I've searched high and low for something that matches and haven't found the tile or something that came close to matching. I drive down S. Lamar everyday and thought it's probably right there at the place I drive by. So I FINALLY stopped by. Wish I had done it sooner! It used to be an old service station and they even have a picture from the 50's to prove it, which was kinda cool. The selection is AMAZING! Gorgeous selection, lots of unique stuff and felt like they had the latest of the latest. There's usually only one or two people working so you might have to wait a little while but take the time to really look through everything. Needless to say, they had a tile that was the closest we've found so far. They let me borrow a sample to take home and I accidentally kept it for a week not realizing there was a 48 hour rule but they were cool about it. Not sure about all prices but of course my tile was a little high. If you're looking for some good advice and good selection, try a local guy and go here. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because they do have wood flooring as well but I didn't look at any of that... read more

I have used Castle Flooring twice now and I have been very pleased with the level of customer service. I have a very old home and I have needed to replace a rare blue tile in my kitchen. Julian found and ordered my tile and even went as far as to remind me on a few occasions, till I dropped in to pick it up. Even though this was a very small order of only 3 pieces his staff still took the time to make sure I got my order. Then I went to do the job and I realized that I had ordered the wrong type of tile, and that I needed a bullnose version. Julian worked with me on even as he was on his way out of the shop to get my ordered rushed to his store. See I needed the tile very quickly since we were going to put the house on the market that next week. Overall a wonderful experience at Castle Flooring and I would recommend them to anyone looking for big or small jobs. read more

Julian and Stephanie have been awesome! First, Julian provided a phone consultation, then we consulted with Stephanie in the tile store. He and his crew did a lovely job on our kitchen floor and backsplash! His crew was there on time every day which is big for us. They were very safe and communicative. After spending a lot of time getting different quotes from different places, I finally picked Castle Flooring, and I am so thankful that I did! I would definitely recommend them! Julian was great! He helped me pick out a wonderful wood floor that looks great in my new place! He also fit me into his install schedule right away and kept me in the loop during the project. He was also proactive in reaching out to the property manager making sure everything was approved and done correctly. I didn't have to do anything! Julian is a perfectionist, and during the final walkthrough he found a smudge mark from the glue. He had his installers come the very next day to fix it. I would have never even noticed the imperfections. I get compliments on the floor all the time from people that don't even know I just had them done. I would 100% use Castle Flooring again. Next time, for the backsplash in my kitchen. read more

I can't say I am very impressed by their selection of tiles. It's a lot of the modern stuff that will look outdated in ten years. The lady working here said "That's just supply and demand." She also didn't see to know much about the history or traditions of tile. I guess if you are remodeling an Austin McMansion that looks like every other McMansion, this is your place. Otherwise, go to Clay Imports, Architerra, Cle Tiles, or Treehouse. read more

I went into Castle Flooring in search of kitchen backsplash tiles after having a bad experience with an online store. Although you cannot tell from the outside, they have a very large and well-organized showroom. I ended up finding the tiles that I had ordered from an online store who never shipped them to me. Stephanie first called the supplier to check availability, matched the price of the online store, and they arrived within 2 days! I had to order more tiles the following week and they arrived in 2 days also. The showroom is great, much better than some of the disorganized showrooms I've been to in North Austin. There was no sales pressure, and the tiles came in quickly and as expected. read more

We hired CF to install tile flooring over a wood sub-floor and walls/pan for a large shower area. The areas were all new construction, so there was little/no demolition scope or structural prep. There are a few factors that make CF special, and worth hiring. 1. they take pride in the materials they sell/install...it is the opposite experience of Home Depot. 2. they have great design ideas and instincts that help quickly balance budget and feel...very collaborative in helping your project take shape. 3. they have a wonderful selection of materials in the showroom. it feels urban, contemporary and very suitable for nearby projects. other showrooms I looked at felt more tied to projects in Lakeway or Dripping Springs- very hill country mansion...not urban. 4. the cost of the materials and install seemed fair- I certainly could have scratched around and gotten some lower costs, but didn't have time to deal with that. the finished product feels like it was worth the cost. the reason they lose a star is that our good experience came after one clunky experience. we arrived at the showroom without an appointment (Julian requests an appointment so he can focus carefully on one person) and discussed some options...had to follow up on getting a bid and the whole thing sort of dropped off until we went back to the showroom to re-start. Julian is a little quirky, so you have to work with that, but I think these quirks are actually what make the place special in the end. It is a classic Austin story...enjoy it. read more

Called Julian and explained that I needed tile removed and the mortar underneath for a smooth finish that could be resurfaced to a stained concrete finish in my kitchen. Julian was quick to respond with a reasonable quote. He walked me through the process and went over two people would be coming with a tile removal demolition hammer, a morter removal bit and a diamond tipped floor refinishing buffer with a vacuum attachment to keep dust down. Imagine my surprise when the workman showed up with a tool rented from home depot and a mortar removal bit that didn't fit the tool. He apologized but said he would make it work by just using the demolition bit but that it may damage the slab. Really, not even willing to go get the right bit? Also, he said the diamond tip buffer with vacuum was not something their company had. Why then was this the process explained to me? When calling Julian to explain that I would like to have what was originally communicated, he got very defensive and told me that no one in Austin could do what I was asking. A horrible experience. read more

I recently did business with Castle Flooring and several other contractors due to water damage in my home. Being new to dealing with contractors it was a real learning experience. When I read the other reviews for Castle Flooring, I realize that Yelp is "crazy town". Notice that Julian Sanchez either gets 5 stars or 1 star. That said, I give this family business 5 stars for their professional, helpful assistance, their great product lines, and their honesty in all dealings. We did a gut rehab on our entire first floor and ordered much hardwood, tile and backsplash tile. They were very helpful with storage of product until we were ready to install. Since we had just purchased the home, we were very price sensitive and Julian worked with us to keep the costs under control, even offering me advice and some light training on things I could do myself to prep the space and save some money. It's VERY rare to find such a considerate and understanding contractor who's willing to lose a few bucks provided the homeowner has some basic handyman skills to prep the job. Travis, the installer, was prompt each of the three days he did the work. He spent a full 8 hours just repairing the existing wall -- 20 years old, site of former heavy brick fireplace AND subsequently site of a built out curtain wall. He wrestled with our firebox, ground down cement, grout and adhesive to get a plumb surface before we laid a single tile. Once the prep was done, the tiles got in fast and perfect. Even with levels and steady hand I can't detect a wave (and these are tiny flexible sheets of tile that are very unforgiving. There was an usual grouting issue at the end as we opted for a hearth even with the floor which left a difficult transition between the new tile and our existing tile floor. Travis had some ideas, I had some ideas, and Julian was on the phone with us in minutes receiving photos from our phones and evaluating the options. We ended up with a creative fix that beautifully transitioned and was well "outside the box" of a standard installation technique. Travis worked late that day to pull off our last-minute design change. The next day, after Travis was gone, Julian called and emailed us to make sure everything was up to our standards (and my wife and I can fairly be described as "difficult" clients) and offered to send Travis back if we wanted something changed. And all the work is backed by a lifetime guarantee, so if there's something not currently apparent, I'm confident I can get Julian back here to fix it pronto. read more

I am just about to complete my third project with Castle Flooring and I keep coming back for a reason! Castle Flooring is wonderful to work with. The third project involved having one of his guys repair some damaged wood floor. It turned out fantastic! His repair guy was on time, courteous, and even stayed late to get it just right. VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER!!!! Julian & Stephanie were amazing to work with. Stephanie spent a lot of time with my wife and I, explaining what our options would be on our new shower tile, what would be most appealing, what was popular, and what to avoid. She was able to steer us in the right direction without deviating from our vision. We were under time restraints and Julian was more than accommodating. He worked around our schedule and was very critical of his own work. The end product, our shower looks amazing! We will return for our flooring when we start that project. We just had Castle Flooring replace our tile kitchen floor with cork and we couldn't be happier with the entire process. From start to finish, every interaction was incredibly positive, efficient, honest, and professional. Seth did the install and I can honestly say that I've never a met a nicer, more professional, more thorough craftsman--he is truly an artist. Julian really went above and beyond to make sure we were absolutely taken care of--even refunding some of our money after the work was less extensive than the original estimate! Before calling Castle, we'd dealt with 3 or 4 other flooring companies in town with discouraging results. It was difficult getting folks to come do an estimate, and in one case we waited over two weeks to receive the quote--this was after the guy had taken all the measurements. Julian showed up, on time, the morning after I called him. He had a detailed estimate to me by the following day, which was significantly LESS than the competitor's quote for the same material, and work started exactly when he said it would. Seth always showed up on time, or early!, and was really respectful of our space--even making friends with our rambunctious 16 month old. He dusted, vacuumed, etc. after finishing work each day, and was done in less time than the estimate. Words really can't express how impressed we are with Castle. They are true professionals and we will never use another company for our future flooring needs. --Holly read more

I purchased flooring from Castle and they had the best prices in town and I shopped around. Julian and his wife also helped me pick out tile for my bathroom. All of their advice was sooooooo helpful. I love my bathroom. A couple of months late I came in looking for granite and Julian sent me to the most wonderful guy. Next I came in to pick out tile for my backsplash and Julian again had great advice and was so patient with me. I have only had great experiences with them. Thats why i keep coming back.
