Food was delicious, but the marguerita was terrible (poured it out of a plastic pitcher). Sadly, there was only 1 server and apparently 1 cook. The server did her best, but you can only do so much when you're by yourself. She had to clean and clear tables, seat guests and take orders, serve food and check guests out. We waited 20-30 minutes before we even got chips and salsa. As much as we enjoyed the food when we finally got it, I doubt we'll go back again. If we hear they get another server and authentic margueritas, we might reconsider. read more

Visitors center at Angels Camp CA turned us onto this place. WE LOVED IT!! They use garlic in the rice. Salas is yummy. Chips fresh. Portions are healthy amount. I could eat Mexican food everyday and I'm always looking for the best...Cascabel ranks as a favorite of all time. It is not your typical bland Mexican food! This place has homemade chips and tortillas and all their sauces are rich with flavor and spice. Get the chirizo queso to start and street tacos or chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The green sauce has some zip but well worth it. Finally some Mexican food with spices! Everything tastes very homemade. They do alot of take out and take reservations. read more

I was working up in Angels Camp and a customer of mine and I were chatting. She recommended I try this place. I ordered the chili rellano. I thought I said ala carte since i typically can't finish a meal, but if I didn't I'm so glad I didn't! The rellano came on a plate and a side of these potatoes came with it! The rellano has wonderful flavor! The potatoes were like something I've never had but they were delicious! I took my lunch leftovers and had them for dinner. Spicy shrimp are absolutely delicious. Garlic shrimp a close second. What seems absolutely ridiculous is they brought us chips and no salsa, telling us there was only "super spicy salsa left." So we had plain chips to snack on...no salsa. Then somebody comes upstairs from the downstairs party and asked for more salsa and the response was "You got it! " as she carries a huge bowl of regular salsa back down to the party. So.... apparently regular diners are not treated the same as private party customers. The finale was we got charged for a dish that never came. It must have went to the private party. It's a cozy place that deserves much better customer service. read more

Great authentic Mexican. The chicken mole Verde was out of this world!!!! The chicken breast was moist and fall apart tender and the green mole was flavorful with just the right amount heat. Casey was my server she was attentive and very helpful. read more

This place was incredible and so very reasonably priced. The chips and salsa were homemade and delicious. The enchiladas with green sauce and quessabirria were so unique and tasty, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed them both. Awesome find in Angels Camp. Went here based on Yelps recommendation. It surpassed our expectations. The burger was seriously good! Make sure you buy something with the sweet potato fries. This place had pretty good food, decent service and was a nice experience overall. I had the polo led, which was a little under seasoned. The pork and corn was good, but the soup itself was a bit bland and lacking the richness I expect. I also had enchiladas with steak and green sauce, which were amazing. The meat was well seasoned and the green sauce was rich and slightly spicy. The rice and beans that came with it were really fantastic. I had the Jamaica to drink, which was really refreshing and not too sweet. Our group shared a slice of tres leches cake, which had a coarser texture like cornbread and a strong vanilla flavor. I thought the cake was tasty. The portions were a bit small for the prices. The service was efficient and friendly. They were pretty busy the day after Thanksgiving too. It has an old Western bibE inside to go along with the historic town. This is a pretty good spot I would return to. read more

Normally I love coming here for birria. And have for years! But unfortunately won't be back, due to theft. My boyfriend and I were dining one evening came in before closing and had a new young Hispanic female waitress, were the last table and finished before the time of close- cool fine, but my boyfriend left his credit card in the check book. We called back in the morning and was told it was not there. But then a few hours later he was notified his card was used at Dollar General up the street. I am from San Diego and have had lots of good Mexican food, but the quesabirria is hands down some of the best tacos I have ever had! The corn tortillas are handmade, the salsa nice and smoky flavor, everything tasted fresh and not super heavy or greasy. I'd move here just for the tacos. Wish I could give a higher rating, but it appears to still be a work-in-progress here. The server was nice, but got our dishes seriously mixed up. I made the mistake of ordering the one shrimp dish--when it finally came, it seemed to be swimming in ketchup, not a flavorful Mexican sauce. And the warm tortillas came like 10 minutes later. Their chips are fantastic, just right in my book, but salsa, not so much. Guess they're going for creative, but I like regular red, chunky or not, salsa with cilantro, garlic, onion, etc, one way or another. I can't quite describe what was served. I will definitely go back and stick to something simple, and maybe talk to them about the salsa. I've always rated a Mex restaurant first and foremost by their chips n salsa. So, we shall see. Amazing hidden gem as people say. I had the BEST Huarache in my life. Green sauce. Barbecue and nopales. The homemade tortilla under it all was to die for. Don't expect Mexican food per se, expect a taste treat that goes way beyond all that. Met chef and girlfriend and they are awesome authentic people. GO eat there. read more
