After living in the area for two years, I never ate here but drove by it all the time. Tonight I decided to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking in the place had a great vibe with some upbeat Latin hits playing on Pandora.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chips and salsa were ok, nothing special but decent. However to meal was very good as was the service. We ordered a tamale, enchilada, burrito and chile relleno to try the various flavors. The Chile Relleno was tasty. Huge poblano pepper, nice red sauce and the breading was a light spongy texture that has the right amount of thickness without being overly breaded. The tamale and enchilada, both chicken with verde sauce was excellent. The tamale was very moist unlike many that are dry. The tamale held together when cut rather than falling apart but that is just a personal preference as to how you like your tamale. The burrito was very large and extremely tasty as we ordered the super burrito. One of the tastier burritos I had in the area. The highlight was the flan. That was how you say "fire" or as I say SCINTILLATING! Nice thick custard consistency, not gritty and a perfect caramel color and sauce. I could eat this all night with coffee. We're from Southern California and have a lot of great Mexican food in our area, so we were expecting comparable quality. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We went in for lunch around 1:30 (not busy at all) and ordered off of the a la carte menu, as we don't eat a lot of beans and rice. My husband ordered an enchilada with green sauce and a crunchy taco, I ordered a crunchy taco and a tostada. He received a red sauce enchilada and the rest as we had ordered , as did I. Waitress came around to see how everything was tasting AFTER we finished our meal . The taco shells seemed like the premade shells I can buy in the store, or something I could get at Taco Bell. For a $4.50 taco, it wasn't fixed the way I was expecting at all (very bland), and the shells detracted from the overall taste and enjoyment of the tacos. The rest was okay, but overall disappointing, especially for the prices charged. Even the salsa was a disappointment-too tomato saucey and not enough flavor of any kind. The lack of service, no drink refills and the wrong item being brought out, which we couldn't even try to exchange because of being ghosted by the staff was exceptionally frustrating. Overall, very disappointing and one place we will NOT return to when we're back in the area. read more

This hidden little restaurant tucked away at the side of the road serves up some authentic mexican food!! I really enjoyed my combo plate of a pork tamal with a cheese enchilada. I asked for the sauces they put on top to be on the side. The pork inside the tamal was plentiful with just enough seasoning and masa shell. The cheese enchilada was good too and I appreciated the dollop of tasty guacamole/sour cream on top. I used a little of it as a dip for the tortilla chips that are served before the entrees. The refried beans were not salty and perfect with the fluffy, flavorful mexican rice. My friend stated her carne asada tostada bowl was delicious! Had lunch here on our way home from our annual visit to Big Trees State Park to view dogwood blossoms. Lunch was great. Actually lunch and dinner the next day was great since they give you so much food in their combination plates. I had the chile relleno (skip the red sauce) and a side of freshly made guacamole with chips. My husband had the combination plate (shredded beef taco and chicken tamale). Tasted like old school authentic Mexican food (at least what we think of as authentic). The rice was delicious, refried beans on point, but best of all the taco and tamale. Both delicious! My relleno was so good I kept thinking I should've ordered two, but there's always next time. The guacamole was freshly made (a bit too much lime for my taste, but I still managed to eat it all the following day). There is more parking in back. Our waitress was quick getting our drinks and order. She recommended the Gonzo tacos. My husband ordered the Enchiladas Poblanas. Every day should be taco day! When friends say, let's go have a fun extended weekend away, it's my moral imperative to pack an overnight bag and just do it! Our first stop, was an angel's Mexican kitchen. The restaurant had a funky odor to it that did not smell like food, but that did not distract us from ordering and enjoying our meals. Chips, salsa, and ice water were immediately brought to the table for us to enjoy while we perused the menu. We all ordered some variation of different taco dishes. I ordered Gonzo's tacos with no produce. The tacos were filled with a generous amount of beef and chorizo, and the key to making this extra delicious, was the generous amount of cheese that was at both the bottom portion of the tacos, as well as on top of the meat. Perfection in every bite. The meat was perfectly seasoned, and the taco shells were lightly crisp. So, so delicious! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and checked on us a number of times to make sure that we were enjoying our meal, and to ask if we needed anything. The food I enjoyed the most was the rice, salsa, and cheese inside the chili Relleno. The beans tasted as they've been refried a little too long. The Chile Relleno tasted like flour and the enchilada sauce tasted bland. Once we got our food, we had to wait another five minutes when she became available because she had forgot to give us silverware. I had my five-year-old son with me, who typically eats off my plate, so I requested an extra plate. If she would've mentioned there was an extra two dollar charge, I would have just had him eat the rice from my plate or would've bought him his own rice plate. read more

The food here is AMAZING. The chef deserves ALL the praise. But the women, especially the older Mexican woman who hosts and perhaps owns the restaurant, are SO MISERABLE that it makes it impossible to enjoy the food, as good and fresh as it is. If I could give any advice to this establishment, please FIRE hire immediately and get someone who isn't miserable as a cold rat. If she's the owner, SELL the business. You are doing a tremendous disservice to your kitchen staff and chef for how good their food is. I wish I could go here all the time, but the host / owner is such a miserable twat that it makes me never want to go and spend money here. If I could speak directly to the woman who owns this restaurant that I'm speaking of, why do you run this place still if it clearly kills your soul so much? I see you mistreat practically every patron who comes here. People aren't going to want to come here, it's a small town, word travels. Sell the restaurant or get an attitude adjustment, you're in the business of SERVICE. The food here is delicious but the service here is suspect. I really enjoyed their Chille Relleno and their Chimi-Cheesecake and Ice Cream. For most of the meal we were the only ones there. The food took a long time to get to us which could be because they do take pride in their cooking. This could've been overlooked but the service was so bad. Our main waitress was pretty short with us and even rolled her eyes at us. After a day of hiking at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, we decided to have an early dinner in Angel.s Camp on our way back to the Bay Area. Angels was quiet when we arrived around 5 pm and quickly filled up! Lots of people waiting for tables on our way out! Cute little restaurant! Service was efficient. My husband ordered the Carnitas meal which came with rice and beans. The pork was cooked with grilled jalapeños and onions and was delicious. I ordered 2 different items from the Ala Carte menu. I had a shrimp taco which included small shrimp sautéed with jalapeños and onions and tomato. It was served with a slice of lime and sliced avocado on a corn tortilla. I also ordered Chicken Sopes, which were served with a very good salsa verde. The fried masa was outstanding. The sopes were topped with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream as well as queso fresca. The chips and salsa were very good and I enjoyed a large fresh horchata. We will be back if we travel to the Sierras again! read more

We asked & the server (a pleasant young man) happily offered to seat us on the back patio. He turned on the patio lights & provided us a nice romantic evening.
