Who knew there would be such a gem in the middle of a small town. Stopped by here for some tacos on our way to the snow. Parking is easy and if you need gas, there's a shell literally right there. The menu is extensive. There were so many options that we did not know what to choose. Nonetheless, we wanted to try them all, but wish we had more people. We ordered: -Nachos (big portion and the chips were great) -Fish taco (nice and crispy) -Lengua burrito -Lengua chimichanga (so crispy, was one of our favs) -Lengua and al pastor crispy tacos (love the shell they used here) -Birria tacos (good, but not up there for us) Everything we tried was great. Loved that they had a chips and huge salsa/sauce bar. 10/10 would recommend. They have outdoor seating, which was perfect since we had dogs. They do not serve any alcohol, only have aqua frescas or horchata. However, there was a sign that said no alcohol behind this point (the street), so we bought some at the gas station and drank it in the patio. read more

A very small but very delicious Mexican restaurant. I love that they have a salsa bar with over a dozen salsas that you can help yourself to. We ordered from a very nice lady and the food came out within 10 minutes. The tortillas were fresh and you can tell they make the ingredients fresh. My quesadilla was huge and they did not skimp on the carne asada, which I greatly appreciated. The floutas were crisp and packed full of chicken and cheese. The enchiladas were devoured by my 15 year old. She said they were the best she's had. A great little place to grab some quality Mexican food for a decent price. read more

We stopped by this place after visiting the Big Trees park. We love this place, 100% authentic Mexican. When you walk in, there's a self service area with condiments for taco - various kinds of salsa, pickled veggies, pico de gallo etc - and free tortilla chips. A taco condiment bar is always a good sign. The tacos are generous with the filling. Their quesadilla is super delicious too. We are in California after all, so there's baja fish taco, and a veggie section on the menu. We also tried some of the juices they have in the big jars. The lady at the register didn't speak much English but the owner (?) explained everything in detail for us. The juice we got is some cucumber lime juice, which is refreshing on a warm day. Totally should support this lovely restaurant owned by hard-working, friendly immigrants. : ) read more

If you are looking for authentic Mexican, this place doesn't disappoint. Having spent a good deal of time in the central part of California. We got really spoiled with excellent Mexican food. So finding a restaurant out here in Gold country that has amazing Mexican food is a little bit of a surprise. But we read some reviews that seemed promising and headed over. This is not a restaurant that you're gonna go in and sit down in. There's outdoor seating or to go. The outdoor seating is really fabulous and the weather today was perfect. Food is pretty much served as it's ready. There are complementary chips that are amazing to snack on while you're waiting. The salsa bar is great! There's something for anyone I'm sure here. And there is the marinated pickled carrots and jalapeños that I love so much. The staff is friendly, patient and helpful. Bilingual. Habla Español. We have a gem of a Taqueria in Murphys. La Cabana is absolute delight. They have a small little location, but they have a Big Beautiful Menu (I know, Bad on my part, but I couldn't resist) of self described authentic Mexican food. Having never eaten in Mexico, I cannot affirm that designation, but I know that I have absolutely enjoyed every meal I've eaten there (or taken home). Today, the Great Gal and split a Breakfast Burrito to go. It was huge, tasty, so we split it. The GG added some of her homemade salsa and Clover Sour Cream. We loved. La Cabana has become one of favorites in our little town. We're looking forward to exploring other items on their menu. read more

After 40+ years coming up this way, this is my new favorite Murphy casual eatery. It's ok to eat off the main drag in Murphys! My group in Latin American and they wanted a hearty midday meal with rice and beans. Free chips and salsa are available; no indoor seating but patio is just fine. Loved the enchiladas and the salsa/condiment bar. I lived in Mexico and married into a Mexican family, so I can be quite picky about Mexican food. This place tastes like homestyle Mexican cuisine. The only thing I'd love to add to the dishes here is pan-fried plantain. I'll be back next jaunt up the mountain. read more

We were able to have dinner this week at the new Taqueria. We had both ordered burritos, and they were delicious. The menu looked amazing, so many choices, It was hard to decide on what to have. The salsa we chose to go with our chips was very good also. And they had many more salsas to choose from. We are eager to go back and try something else on the menu, hope real soon! Excellent taqueria in Murphys! The gentleman that took our order was friendly and accommodating. The tacos de papas were delicious and filling (5 tacos!). The 3 different spicy salsas and jalapeño sour cream were great additions for the tacos. The only negative I can see was the size of the place. Eating outside on a hot day is not ideal. The salsas were fresh and amazing as were the carnitas and pastor crunchy tacos. Rice and beens were full of flavor. The only recommendation would be to improve on the chips. Excellent Mexican food!!! Love the patio when it's warm. The service couldn't be better. You have to try the salsa bar and chips.

I have been here a couple times. Found the food to be really good. In the winter though, this is a to-go only place for me. There's a nice covered patio that would be delightful in nice weather, but it's cold and windy in the winter. Inside has rudimentary crowded seating for maybe 3 people if there isn't already stuff all over the little plank that serves as a table. If you can manage to find a spot there, you are sitting in a wind tunnel because people leave the sliding door open. So come for the great food... but don't plan on eating there unless nice weather. read more

Great tacos and burritos. Authentic and friendly service. The chips and salsa bar with various spice level is pretty awesome. I like the street tacos which had a lot of flavors, really well done. The burrito was pan seared giving it that nice crunch. The Hochata was great. We'd definitely come back. Easy to get gas at the shell next door and grab a bite to eat in Murphys.
