We loved the food! Me and my husband totally love Mexican food and love exploring restaurants which offer authentic cuisine. Casa Rico has been on our list for a while and finally we got a chance to go there. This was our experience- Food - ordered Chipotle chicken tamale (flavor of the month), chicken enchiladas and Chipotle chicken burritos. Portions were huge. Everything tasted awesome. My husband specifically liked the beans (which is quite a miracle given as Indians we prepare them in a very specific format for Indian dish called Rajma and love them to the core. Beans in any other format apart from Rajma is usually not appreciated.) He actually ordered extra serving for take out. I just wish they gave guac with these dishes, but it was not a turn-off as such. Ordered it separately. Ambience - Usual Mexican vibes which added to the experience. Staff- very courteous. We kept asking for one or the other things which extended beyond their closing hours and Maria was very polite to serve us with a big smile We gonna be regulars here! Thank you for an amazing experience. read more

We usually love this place - we are "regulars" in that we get there about once a month. Saturday, we dropped in after a bike ride at around 4PM for a margarita, and what would have most likely turned in to dinner and an $80 bill for us. As we were seated, I across from my 50 year old husband, sat with my 1.75 "readers" perched on the end of my nose, reading the 24pt font on my iPhone, when the young waitress said, "may I see your ID?". I'm 48, and absoutely do no look under the age of 30 (which I understand is the subjective aged "look" requiring wait staff to ask). . I asked if she was joking, she said no, so I reached for my wallet, all the while not really knowing whether to be flattered or irritated (1.75 readers still perched on my nose)....I didn't have it, and she would not serve us. Bottom line, the food is good, but I thought they were a little more relaxed. I certainly do not look a day under 40 at the very least. And who makes up that they are 48? Don't get me wrong - I'm not suggesting they stop asking for ID - just suggesting they are a little more reasonable about who they ask! At the end of the day, she saved us some coin, and we found another good place for Mexican, where I, like the other baby boomers in the room did not have to show ID. read more

The food was not very flavorful and came in small portions at well above market prices. The restaurant looks run down. The service was pretty good which is what saved this from a one star review. read more

This is absolutely a great spot for a filling, cost effective lunch (starting at 5.99) and it took its place as my 2nd favorite Mexican place (so far) in town. First, the service was great. Everyone was so accommodating and polite which I definitely appreciate. Next, and very importantly, I had a huge plate of tasty food for 6.99; enchilada, taco, rice, beans and condiments. I would have taken a picture but I was too busy inhaling it. They also have great queso dip, salsa and chips. Now, my lunch buddy was not totally crazy about her food and stated that the last place we had Mexican food was her preference. I do not agree. To me, the last place was not authentic and Casa Rico is much closer. They just offer far more flavorful food, imo. Overall, I think the food is good, the atmosphere is good and the service is great. I hear they have a Margarita Monday too which will likely be the focus of our next visit. read more

I am not a huge Mexican food eater but some of my friends told me this place has the best tacos. So one night they take me out and we had a great time! I hand a mango daiquiri that was light and really good. As a table we shared nachos which were different, but had a really good flavor. Then I had steak tacos with lots of fixings and they were awesome! One of my favorite things was the guacamole....yum!! The service was good and friendly and I'll definitely be back! read more

I have ben going to Casa Rico for almost 20 years. This is one of the only restaurants in Frederick that I always know what to expect. The food is excellent, always hot, flavorful and brought quickly to my table. As with any other restaurants in the area, there have been new employees over time, but each one quickly learns the 'Casa Rico Way' in no time at all. Under new management, my most recent visit (Thursday 9/12/13) was amazing. Ladies night specials and great food-- I will continue to come time and time again. Menu Favorites: 1.) The California Burrito-- Huge portion, low price, and very flavorful. I always get to take some home :) 2.)The New Street Tacos are AMAZING-- I tried the 'Pastor Pork' Street Taco, and hands down, the BEST 'street taco' I have ever had. 3.) Fish Tacos-- the flavor is incredible. Always ask about the specials-- with the new manager, there are a lot of great updates and changes going on right now! Definitely worth a shot, Casa Rico continues to provide good service, great atmosphere and delicious food! read more

Food ordered: queso, baja shrimp, baja fish tacos, chorizo tacos, strawberry margarita. My sister loves this place and we celebrate her birthday here nearly every year. The past few times I haven't been greatly impressed. But it's obviously what I've been ordering, because this time it was amazing!! Queso was good, it's not watery like other Mexican places. It's nice and thick, and always hot when it comes to the table. However, I think the chips are way too thin. I love thin chips but the ones here are nearly see through. I wish it had more flavor though. Throw in some jalapeños or something similar to give it bite. Husband got the baja shrimp and let me try one. It was hot and cooked properly, but it had a sandy texture to it. He liked it though, which is what matters since he ate the rest. The star was the the street tacos. Holy crap these were the tastiest fish tacos I have ever had. I wanted to order more after I was finished because they were that good. The combo of the chipotle cream sauce and the chillies seasoning on the fish made it tangy, spicy and just plain delicious. Husband liked his tacos, but I was so focused on mine I didn't try his lol. Will definitely return again and again just for these tacos. Service was amazing also. Our server was super nice, accommodating and knowledgeable. read more

Visited after a few year's hiatus, and it is just as good as we remember. The lunch special was a perfect portion, i had the chicken fajita platter and my husband had chicken mole. Chicken was tender and both dishes were flavorful. The thin table tortilla chips are the best. The decor is inconsistent but does not reflect on the great food they serve. Highly recommended. read more

Best Sangria hands down! I drive all the way from Baltimore for this tasty treat, Shyam the GM is always a pleasure, the service staff is always on point. I am a GM myself and I appreciate the freshness and time put into each dish from the chips to the flan. Keep up the good work! P.s. Sunday they have a special on sangria!!! read more

Casa Rico - Mexican Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

We were in the mood for Mexican and this was the closest place. Should have stood by the so-so reviews and passed the place by. The service was really slow and our waiter spent most of his time sitting at the bar watching the Super Bowl while we waited for drink refills. The food wasn't memorable and we would not really recommend it as a great dining experience. If you're getting take out, it's probably best. read more

Always great. Best pulled pork Tacos anywhere. Chicken Fajitas use marinated chicken strips it's wonderful. Warm friendly environment.

Would like to try this place again. I don't think I got the full experience. The building was a little hard to find but thanks to the Yelp pictures I knew the building was bright orange! Turns out we came from behind the building so couldn't see the sign from the road. Every table gets chips and salsa before the meal. I really liked the chips, they were more corn flavored. The salsa was kinda runny and too spicy for my taste. I ordered the chicken tacos with mango salsa. You get two tacos, rice, beans, and pico. Sour cream and guacamole is extra (I think $1). I really liked the taco shells. Tasted home made and not from a bag. The chicken was good and loved the mango salsa on it. I saw they had a full bar and some drink specials. Would really like to go back since they looked so yummy! read more

Probably one of the last times I will stop here. Beers was good but food not happy. Lack of flavor. The place is chill staff is nice but the food sucks read more

The food was great, as usual. However, the delivery person didn't ring my bell to let me know it arrived. I'm guessing it sat for at least 10 minutes before I checked based on the latest delivery time estimate. My black bean soup was lukewarm but a few seconds in the microwave was all it needed to be absolutely delicious! read more

Ordered delivery from their website which was delivered by GrubHub. Got the family taco meal, chips and guacamole, and some frozen margaritas. Everything tasted great! Generous portions and well packaged. We got lots of food and the drinks were still frozen when they arrived. I would order this again anytime. read more

This is our go to place when in the mood for Mexican. The owner of the restaurant is friendly and all staff provide good service.

Please listen to the bad reviews. The 5 star reviews must be coming from the owner and the employees. I ordered the Chile Relleno, it was the worst one I've ever had. It was very soggy as if it was microwaved and it probably was! I tasted my child's bean burrito and it was subpar, my child agreed that Taco Bell made better bean burritos. Please, by all means, head on over to Taco Bar! It's only a block down and they have the BEST authentic Mexican food in all of Frederick! read more

If you want good Mexican food in Frederick skip the hype around LaPaz and go to Casa Ricos. It's much less crowded, and has bigger portion sizes and better margaritas. My go to meal is the Buritto gordo, which has a cheese tortilla and is enough to feed you for dinner and then have for lunch the next day. My siblings both swear by the California Buritto. read more

The food is okay. The service really good. This place has seen better days. Definitely check in on yelp and get your free fish taco. That taco is really good. I liked the fajita although, it was not their best. The sauces somehow seemed bland. This place has gone to hell. Service what service? Management doesn't care and 2.50 for a kids chocolate milk which make a kids meal almost 9 dollars . Won't be back ever. read more

Food was good .. Reason for 3 stars is I'm Hispanic and have gone to lots of Mexican / Hispanic restaurants and never been charged so high for a HORCHATA !! Just because it came in a special glass. I was in shock ! read more

Good guacamole. I had the chicken Fajitas and they were terrible. The meat seemed old and was overly marinated with some awful grainy liquid. I would bet my life that chicken was previously frozen and had been sitting in marinade for days (I hope it was only days). On top of that it was super greasy. Gross. Rice was mushy and weird. I think the veg in the Fajita plate was string beans and green peppers. The server was very friendly and attentive. read more

We've been going here for over twenty years now. Always great! Consistently great food, nice atmosphere, great service.

Wow what a gem! Super fresh family place. My fiend - who is a picky beast- and loves to HATE- ordered blackened shrimp tacos ...and said the sauce was BOMB. Real shock out I'm middle of Maryland. I ordered rice black beans guacamole and salsa w verse sauce ! All vegan!!! The woman knew all ingredients and what was made w butter/chicken broth. Super knowledgeable. I brought my own container and they didn't skip a beat!! Really great full. We got everything to go. read more

The environment was neat and pleasant. The staff was great. BUT .... The cuisine needs to be totally reworked. Forget the scallop taco (advertised on the street billboard). It was crap, served on 2 inch, raw flour tortillas. The scallops were the size of peas. And the beef salad served was poorly seasoned, cold, and the flats was soggy. The pumpkin spice margarita was watered down and warm. Will not be going back. read more

Really?? Yelp says they're famous for their Fajitas?? I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but the truth is that we went there to have Fajitas and so far it's been the worst Fajita we've ever had. The portion was too small and there were just few pieces of meat in that. Even though the waitress suggested us to get a combination of chicken and steak to have a bigger portion but it was still not big enough for one person and vegetable part of the dish was mostly onions and not a verity of other vegetables! read more

Awsome real authentic Mexico's food. What is not to love the staff is great the atmosphere is great bar is great.

Had Mother's Day lunch today with family. Guacamole was AMAZING! Split chicken fajitas and I ate the veggie part. Waitress was sweet and attentive. Plus, they gave us a free app and dessert for Mother's Day. Classy touch. Highly recommend! read more

Simply the best in the area. We eat here once a month and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good, the staff is a pleasure and beer is always cold! We typically spend about $60 but always leave with leftovers for another day. read more

So I was under the impression that this restaurant was relatively new. LOL. Anything but. I went yesterday with my family and could not have been more disappointed. We walked in and there was no host. Cool. We got sat and the waitress took forever to greet us, with no enthusiasm and didn't even bother to speak up loud enough for us to hear her. I asked her if there was anyway I could request a special beverage from the bar and without hesitation or taking a moment to ask the bartender, she responded with an abrupt "no". Ok. I ended up going with a drink that tasted awful and looked like lighter fluid. I went to go wash my hands and was a bit grossed out when I saw the beverage station was right there. As I came out, I saw an older Indian server with crazy hair wiping his nose with his hand and then put a straw in a cup. GROSS. Anyway, I walked back to our table where our unfortunate adventure continued. Our server came back after like 30 minutes at which time we asked her to take our food order to which we had to specify/guess what our meals came with rather than being asked. We got our food about 35 minutes later and it looked disgusting, to a point where I could not distinguish chicken from steak. Our sides looked like they were slapped on our plates as if from some school cafeteria. We asked for things that never came, had to request refills, would look for our server and she'd be chatting with someone.. Overall, the most unpleasant experience. There is absolutely NOTHING worse than having to pay for shit food and shit service. Will NOT be going back. Ever. read more

I visited Casa Rico after work during the week. I was seated right away and the server was very attentive! I did inquire about the yelp offer, and they honored it but did mention it is one offer per table. They have a great margarita selection, I went with a traditional. It was good, not out of this world but decent. The food was also very "okay". I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. I liked it, but it didn't stand out to me compared to other Mexican restaurants I've been to. It is in a convenient location so I would consider visiting again if it was on my way. The stand out thing about Casa Rico for me was the service over everything else. read more

Casa Rico - Mexican Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

We were out shopping and decided to eat dinner instead of cooking at home. My wife said we have never been to Casa Rica so let's go try there. It was right before 5pm on Saturday and we were seated right away. Chips and salsa were brought to the table right away. The salsa did have some heat to it, which was a nice change from the mild salsas at other places. We ordered our meals, which were the Pollo ala Brasa and the Carne Asada (medium). Our waiter asked if we wanted to order an appetizer since the meals would take about 12-15 minutes to come out. We declined since we had the chips and salsa. The food came out nice and hot. I cut into the Carne Asada and knew right away that something wasn't right. I had to fight to cut the meat. I made a cut right in the middle and the meat was brown all the way though. There was not red or pink to be seen. It was also very tough to chew. We called the waiter over and I asked if this was what they considered medium. He got the manager and he said it wasn't and he would have them cook another Carne Asada for me. I didn't want to wait 15 minutes while my wife ate, so I ordered the Steak and Cheese Tacos, thinking it would be quick. While waiting for my food, I tried the Pollo ala Brasa. It was amazingly tasty and my wife loved it also. The Steak and Cheese tacos came out and looked good. However, the pieces of meat were just tough to chew through. It looked like the same type of meat that the carne asada was made of. I wasn't happy but wasn't going to send another meal back. The service in the restaurant was great, with the waiter always coming by to ask if I wanted a refill on the soda and the manager and someone from the kitchen checking on the second meal. I just couldn't tell them that the meat was tough. I told my wife that we would come back but I wouldn't order any steak dish there and wished that I had gotten the Pollo ala Brasa instead. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant after shopping one day. Good service. Great food. Love their California Burrito! Would definitely go back.
