Chilaquiles
Jeff J.

We decided to give their breakfast a try this past Sunday. After looking over the menu we both decided to try the Chilaquiles. We had watched a couple of Youtube cooking videos about Chilaquiles recently and wanted to try them. I've never had them and didn't know what they were until we discovered the dish online. Turned out to be quite delicious. I had expected the dish to be saucier, but it was still worth it. We were both quite full afterward. We chose scrambled eggs as a topper. My wife had verde sauce, I had the red sauce. Both tasted great :-). If you drive over to the usual Mtn View on a Sunday morning and find them to have the usual 20-minute wait, go up the road a minute or so and give this a try.

Breakfast Menu

A friend and I tried the new breakfast at Casa Rico this morning. My husband and I LOVED Tex Mex breakfasts when we were in San Antonio but have never found anything like it-until today. Casa Rico is now serving breakfast daily at 7am and the food is delicious, well priced, and generous portions. As a stay at home mom with my last kid in preschool breakfast dates with friends are a new treat, and Casa Rico will be my first suggestion anytime someone asks. My friend and I decided to get two entrees and share them. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and she ordered the Chilaques with steak. Both come with a sunny side up egg but we asked for our eggs over easy and they were perfectly executed-Cooked white, runny yolk. The Huevos Rancheros came with two corn tortillas piled with beans, egg, sauce and avocado. The Chilaques was the start-a mounding plate of flavor! We joked that next time we will just split the Chilaques with extra steak because we had leftovers. The steak was sliced into juicy strips, the sauces tortilla strips with still crunchy. We tried both the red and green sauces, the green was a winner for us! I also ordered a side of bacon for $2.50 and was presented FIVE slices of bacon. The service was perfectly attentive, our coffee and tea were always full. The restaurant was clean and well lit. Our meal was less than $35 for both of us which is a steal for the quantity and quality. If you find yourself in the mood to try a new breakfast spot, you won't regret rolling down to Casa Rico at the end of the Golden Mile.

GRILLED CHIPOTLE BURRITO
Darby D.

Every Mexican restaurant has to have good chips and salsa. Theirs? Out of this world. (Agreed on by all 4 of us). The service was awesome (especially since we kept ordering more chips and salsa). I got the chipotle burrito, which is one of the best life decisions I've made to date. Yes, everyone was jealous, and yes, it was absolutely incredible. Highly recommend. If you're on the fence, you've found the right place.

Best fish taco in town!!

Chicken Fajita

Second time trying Casa Rico. I would say their food is ok. Not the best Mexican food I've had but not horrible. The one thing that they make well there is their chips and salsa. We ordered the Chicken Fajitas and Mexi Roll.

Enchilada Platters (ground beef and chicken)

The food was delicious! I ordered takeout and the employee on the phone was extremely friendly. The pickup was done at the bar area and was done easily and smoothly. As for the food, they gave us 2 servings of chips and lots of salsa and they tasted so good! We also ordered the enchilada platter and it had a lot of sauce, which is what I love! The chicken enchilada was definitely the best option, I also tried the ground beef version. My boyfriend got the chicken and beef tamale platter and said it was alright. He tried my dish and said he wished he had gotten the enchilada platter as well. Both dishes had a lot of sauce and were very filling.

I was pleasantly surprised with this experience. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with the molé sauce and my friend ordered the shrimp tacos. The presentation of the enchiladas was impressive and the shrimp tacos looked tasty! I loved the sauce on my dish and the cheese/queso. I was full after 2 and a half of the enchiladas. It came with 4. My friend filled up on 2/3 of the tacos. Soni was our server and she did amazing! She was sure to keep our waters filled and was consistently checking in with us. The cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms were still impressive, despite a couple of crumbs on the table when we sat down. The chips and salsa were still my favorite part. I can be pretty picky when it comes to salsa but I love the texture and taste of this salsa. The chips always come out crispy and fresh! We were there at lunch time and the restaurant was not super busy. I'm glad I gave them another try! My husband and I love mexican food and were excited to try this location. I was very pleased with the environment when we walked in. The staff was welcoming and the restaurant was beautiful. I was excited to get seated in a booth immediately on a Friday at around 5. I will also say that the bathrooms were incredibly clean! My husband and I both ordered tacos, but we were disappointed to find out they were out of the Birria tacos. I was shocked because it seemed early enough on a Friday for them to not be running out of items. I ordered chicken tacos and was not impressed. They were very bland and didn't come with much to add to the chicken and tortilla although, the plate was presented beautifully. My husband ordered the fish tacos and while he did enjoy them, they were also quite underwhelming. The service was not exceptional. I had to ask for water multiple times and as I was once a waitress myself, I was always taught water should be served immediately. I also had to remind my waitress 2 times that we had ordered the queso. It didn't come out until we had already received our food. Despite this, the chips and salsa were actually quite tasty and kept us satisfied. The server did bring more chips when we were getting low and was attentive to my soda and my husbands beer. I did feel the waitress could've been more attentive, but she was very kind and cheerful. I feel it's also important to note that the restaurant did not seem to be busy. I was happy to find that for two orders of tacos, a beer, and a soda, the bill was roughly $50, plus a $10 tip. While my husband and I prefer other Mexican restaurants in the area, I am glad we got to experience El Habanero.

The meat options were also greatly appreciated by my friends who joined me at the restaurant. Ask for the in-house spicy salsa if you like a kick of spice. There are some parking spots right in front, although not many. There is a decent amount of seating, but it would be tight if you had a large party. My partner did note that the bathrooms weren't that great. You immediately get served complementary chips and salsa. They were pretty basic, but not bad. We ordered the following: + Papusas (Pork and Cheese & Loroco and Cheese) - Decent, although I prefer the Loroco (an edible flower bud). + Pollo à la Primavera (chicken dish) - Yummy, especially the sauce which mixes well with their hot/spicy sauce too! I could do without the salad dressing. + Camarones con Calabeza (shrimp dish) - Same as above! Note they leave the tails on. + Natural Juices (Mango and Maranon) - So refreshing! I loved the Maranon (cashew apple) was a wonderful burst of tropical sweetness with a subtle nutty taste. I appreciate that for the pupusas they had the foresight to provide my partner and I two plates so we could sphere the papusas. The portion sizes of the entrees were great for the price. It did take a while for the staff to swing by so that we could get boxes and the check. Note that credit cards and mobile pay are accepted. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again to try more items on their menu.

The ambience is lively without feeling cramped, which makes it an easy place to settle in after work. Happy Hour: Their happy hour is definitely the main draw. The large margaritas are priced extremely well, and when the mix is right, they're excellent. The only downside is consistency -- sometimes the drinks have a good balance of alcohol, and other times they taste more like lemonade and feel watered down. The appetizer prices are also great. We ordered the fried wings and Mexican rice; both were okay and edible, but not particularly memorable compared to other spots. Service: Service was generally good, but with only one bartender covering the entire bar, there were stretches where he disappeared or was tied up. Nothing terrible, just not the level of attentiveness you get at places with more staff behind the bar. Overall: Despite the inconsistencies, we'd come back. The happy hour prices are hard to beat, and when the drinks hit right, it's worth the visit.

more like a 3.5ish…read more we enjoyed our meal at Chido's. we went mid afternoon and it was busy considering the off hours. the chips and salsa were good (salsa a little runny, but tasty). we started with empanadas, which were really done well. the dipping sauce they came with was delicious - almost like a pickled or fermented sauce with herbs and finely diced onion. wasn't for my husband but i couldn't get enough of it! i had a combo plate, and got a beef enchilada and beef chile relleno. the relleno was flavorful (i LOVE cilantro) and the enchilada was done well. very cheese heavy, but that's never a bad thing in my book. expect VERY big portions. my husband found an eggshell in his rellenos, which was a bit of a disappointment. while i enjoyed mine, he indicated they weren't prepared as he expected. i found the flavors right, but i'm not usually very picky. our waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed and not too overwhelming (it's a big restaurant, this might be different at night with a full house). overall decent experience!
