A new favorite in Hagerstown. This is now my go-to for Mexican in the area. On every dish I've tried, the sauces are amazing--not what you typically get at a Mexican restaurant, and very clearly homemade. My favorite is the Enchiladas Suizas: chicken enchiladas topped with a super flavorful green sauce, pickled onions, avocado, sour cream, and queso fresco. Annnd don't miss the Shrimp Al Chipotle either. I don't know what it is about this chipotle sauce but it hits! It has a slight spice and smokiness but not too much, and the shrimp are huge and always cooked perfectly; never chewy or overcooked as they so often are. The veggies are a great option with the shrimp: fresh grilled zucchini and broccoli perfectly salted. Tres leches is humongous and the texture that I like: a little coarse and holds the milk mixture well. Mojitos are delicious, and I plan to try the margaritas soon too. Service is sometimes a bit slow, but the food more than makes up for it. There's a lot of seating inside, both booths and tables. Nice decor. read more

Great food. Best Mexican restaurant in Hagerstown. I've been there several times. The food is simply delicious, extraordinarily flavorful. Ambience is definitely a step up over other Mexican restaurants. Service is friendly and professional. I like the lunch specials which are reasonably priced and portioned. Frankly you won't pay much more than some fast food prices for a top notch meal here! The chef had come up with unique versions of enchiladas and burritos that are a several steps above most other Mexican restaurants. Frankly this place makes it seem like the others came out of a can! The enchiladas here are a symphony of flavors with hints of spices and herbs that make you look forward to the next bite. Of you want ordinary, go to the other places. My husband and I really enjoyed the Fiesta Parrillada, it says it's for two people, but the servings were so generous! The food was absolutely delicious and very worth the price. We came first came here about 6 weeks ago and have now been back three times. It is SO good! Everything I've had has been delicious. The chips are warm which is always a nice touch. Salsa has good flavor. We have also ordered the Mixed Dip which is queso with their ground beef taco meat and pico. Delicious! For my meal this time, I had the Pollo Chipotle which again, so good! The chicken is grilled first and then put in the chipotle cream sauce. It is so flavorful and juicy with just the right amount of spice to the sauce. The rice had good flavor and I got the grilled vegetables (broccoli and zucchini) which is something I've not seen before at a Mexican restaurant. They were cooked perfectly (not mush) and had good flavor. I love having that as a healthier option as a side dish and that it's yummy! I always accompany my Mexican restaurant meals with a crunchy hard beef taco minus lettuce. I like having that crunch but I don't want just tacos as my meal. However, I could probably do that here because their ground beef is so flavorful! Love it. My husband actually ordered beef soft tacos for his meal this time and love them too. This is my second time ordering the pollo chipotle as well as the hubs second time getting the beef tacos. On another visit, we had pollo relleno and a mixed burrito (I forget the name). Both were good. The burrito was epically huge. The husband's only complaint about the burrito was the lettuce was inside which he was expecting it to be outside which he would've preferred. No biggie though. The pollo relleno was good, but not as good as the pollo chipotle which is why I got that again this time! Ambiance is super nice. This is the old pizzeria UNO's and while some details of that restaurant remain (the industrial circular vents on the ceiling in part of the dining room), but the rest of it is new furniture and decor. Very warm and inviting. Plus, the chairs are super comfortable too. Service has been good as well. We've been seated immediately all times we've come. The waitresses we've had have all been very sweet, even with a slight language barrier. Only ding I'd give for service is we've had to ask for drink refills, but all in all, service is good. Seriously, try this place out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. And if you do, please leave a review because the one other review thus far has given them an unjustly low rating, imo. It's a new restaurant and we know Hagerstown is chock full of Mexican places, and I would've even said we didn't need another one. But I'm glad we got this one as there are unique touches to their menu that I really like that sets Altos de Jalisco apart from the run of the mill Mexican joint. 4.5 , but since Yelp doesn't give us that option, I'm rounding up. read more

Starting with the positives -- my daughter had the chicken quesadillas, which were easily the best dish of the night. The chicken was juicy, the cheese was good, and it was full of flavor. I had the enchiladas suizas, but the sauce tasted a little off to me too sweet for my liking- I would've preferred a savory sauce. My wife ordered the chicken tacos, which were unfortunately overcooked and dry she finish at the restaurant. She had to add sauce at home just to finish them. The chips were fresh, but the salsa was pretty average. Our server was nice, though it was a little odd how she seemed to steer us away from the drink specials, almost like she preferred us ordering regular drinks. Lastly, the kitchen kept ringing the bell over and over again for the same order, which was a bit distracting and made the atmosphere feel a little chaotic. read more

Was excited to learn a new non-chain restaurant was opening so was looking forward to dinning here. My oldest child and I dined in on a weekend night. We were greeted upon entry and immediately seated. Our order: quesadilla appetizer - can not rate . was ordered to go and left the box behind. But the inside was pulled chicken with a very small amount of melted white cheese. chicken chimichanga - oddly enough looked just like the inside of the quesadilla only rolled . Bland . No taste. White cheese sauce had a good taste but there was very little and instead of being placed on top of the chimichanga, it was on the plate and the chimichanga was sat on top of the sauce. Refried beans - out of the can. Salsa verde enchiladas - too salty Rice - too salty Guacamole- Vibrant color and tasted fresh. - one for the fast seating and the other for the gauc. **Check your bank/card statement** I know when I see a long review I lose interest, but please stay with me. I am a TripAdvisor user and this restaurant is not on that platform. Explaining my lack of reviews. We stopped in around 1pm on Saturday Feb. 1. There were 6/8 other tables. Not busy and plenty of staff. We were seated immediately. And waited about 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order. We were ready and ordered food as well. Food was good. The service was horrible. We had to flag her down for to go boxes. Again for the check. Never had a drink refill. They were not busy. I gave her a 15% tip. $6.27 on a 41.25 bill. My credit card statement reflected a $10.00 tip. That's 24% Tuesday morning I went to the restaurant and spoke to the assistant manager. She confirmed that my signed receipt reflected my intended tip. She also confirmed that a $10 tip was entered into the computer. She was very apologetic. Called the manager, who told her to refund the difference. HA HA. Nope, sorry I'm not even tipping 15% now. She was very apologetic and gave me a $10 bill. I don't know what personnel decisions will be made. I was lucky to have the receipt balled up in my purse. Buyer beware. After passing this restaurant numerous times, my wife and I decided to give it a try. As we walked in, there is a waiting area with seating for when the restaurant is very busy. We waited less than five minutes before we were seated. The dining area is spacious, clean and very well lit. There are beautiful woven baskets on the light fixtures. Most of the tables seat an avaverage of four people. There is a bar in the rear of the restaurant. They serve beer, wines and mixed drinks. We decided not to have any appetizers. For our main dishes, I had the shrimp and pineapple over rice. My wife had the chicken chimichanga. Both dishes were excellent. The shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly. Our server was friendly and attentive. Prices averaged about $30 per person. The parking lot offered plenty of parking. The only minor complaint I have, is that the acoustics were not the best therefore it was very loud wwhiling having dinner. However, I easily recommend this restaurant. read more

Service: The server was fairly attentive, and the service was acceptable. The server did ask if we wanted our chimichanga (a fried burrito by definition) fried or not. Like, wouldn't you be ordering a burrito? LOL Drinks: We order horchata. It was some kind of mix, and they forgot to add cinnamon. It was warm, ice added and served immediately. This was a non starter for us, we returned it, and they happily replaced it with virgin daiquiris, which was the highlight of the night. Appetizer: We ordered mixed dip, which consists of pico, queso, and some ground meat. This came COLD, and IMMEDIATELY. Chips had no air to them, extremely crunchy, but fresh, could use improvement in tortilla. Salsa was reminiscent of canned tomato sauce with cilantro and onion added. Needed salt, and over all a redo on the recipe as salsa is EXTREMELY easy to create. Main Course: We both ordered basic straight forward chimichanga's. Where to start... The water they are using is city water... This was tasted in the beans and rice heavily. Imagine eating your beans and smelling dishwater, or heavily chlorinated water. It was disgusting. A water filter is a must as a high quality restaurant, or even just a quality restaurant. The garnish on the plate was lettuce topped with sour cream drizzle, using a squeeze bottle. It was unusable. as was the baby spoon worth of guac. This took up 1/3 of the plate. Now, we get to the "chimi", these were 2 rolled taquitos in flour tortillas lightly pan fried. There was nothing but the meat ordered inside the chimichanga. no cheese, no onion, no nothing. So imagine 2 rolled taquitos 1" thick with your meat of choice SLATHERED in cheese sauce that is as thin as water, and lukewarm. This is what you can expect coming to this place, currently... If you want a good drink, have a seat at the bar, and expect to be pleasantly surprised. Otherwise, run like hell. read more

Let me start off by saying that I have been to every Mexican restaurant in Hagerstown and Frederick and Altos De Jalisco is miles above all the others. The chips are made fresh as is obvious by their taste texture and warmth. The salsa is flavorful. I loved the chips and salsa so much I was filling up on them lol. Then let's talk about the ribeye steak meal!!! Oh my god was it good!!! So tasty and filling. My daughters had both the fish tacos and the beef tacos and my wife had the chicken quesadillas which she raved about. I tasted all of their meals and they all had unique flavor. I will add that the service was very good and the meals were delivered piping hot and quick. The restaurant is quiet and enjoyable. I live in the area and will be going back and recommend anyone that hasn't tried this restaurant to do so. read more
