I found this place to celebrate some friends' birthdays. I chose it for the proximity to the train and the menu seemed to fit everyone's preferences. The space is beautiful, upscale and trendy. We ordered: Quesadillas Trio - It was really good and the green sauce was amazing. Enmoladas Xico (my entree) - absolutely loved it. Full of flavor. Probably the best mole I ever had. My drink was the Manzanita Spritz and it was good as well. Friends ordered the pork chop and enchiladas. Both loved their entrees as well. We ordered churros and flan to share plus cappuccinos. All were good. This is a great place for a date or special occasion. Nice ambiance and reasonable prices. Service was excellent as well. I rarely give 5-star reviews and this place deserves it. Highly recommend!

Service - 5/5 - Amazing! The waiter pulled out the table to allow my partner to sit at the booth. Best service I've ever seen at a restaurant! Ambience - serene, natural lighting with large windows. Traditional Mexican art on the walls with the yellow lighting that is so romantic. Traditional Mexican music in the background Aguachile Verde - refreshing shrimp and scallops, the salsa verde is delicious, totally makes the dish with the tostada. Great appetizer! Lamb barbacoa tacos - very tender meat, the orange sauce is a must! Simple street tacos. It's pricey for two street tacos, but high-end meat and ambience. Enchiladas - decent! Could be a bit more flavorful, mixing in the green sauce helps add more gusto.

Casa Carmen is a lovely Mexican restaurant that offers elevated food and drinks at a higher price point. The restaurant itself feels very spacious, with a nice mid-sized bar, and lots of tables for groups of all sizes (including a table for larger groups near the front entrance). Service was excellent, our server knew the menu inside out and was great about providing recommendations. Food came out quickly, and they brought fresh plates and silverware out at one point -- such a nice touch. In terms of food, I feel like they did a great job of keeping things simple, yet interesting. The ceviche verde, for example, was amazing. Fresh ingredients combined to make a really tasty dish. And the pescado a la talla was also phenomenal, it really stole the show in terms of presentation (the colors!) and taste. The fish was almost buttery, and the two seasonings were each delicious in their own way. I could have done without the pickled duck tostadas, and the beef tongue tacos were also a little bland. Neither really stood out in terms of seasoning or spice level. So I guess the move is to stick with seafood, at least based on this experience here. All in all a good, albeit expensive, dining experience!

Upscale Mexican is hard. How do you dress up a cuisine whose winsome qualities are honesty, heartiness, and bold flavors? You can fuck with it and reinvent it if you dare (Oxomoco), but you risk pissing people off. You can go the playful whimsy route (Cactus Shop), but are you giving the cuisine the respect it deserves? Faced with this dilemma, Casa Carmen bowls down the middle, offering ultimately pretty normal Mexican food in an upscale setting. The ambience is neighborhood-appropriate: dimmed lights, high ceilings, exposed beams, skylights, and unobtrusively authentic art on the walls. The waiters are solicitous and discreet. For food, Casa Carmen insists on respectful takes on regional Mexican cuisine, which in this case means a menu heavy on mole. I didn't go that route, but my husband and I shared very good guacamole and the platano empanadas as apps. I'd never tried an empanada made of platano (with beans inside) and it was a fresh, interesting take. For my main, I went with chiles rellenos (a solid faithful rendition but unexceptional.) Looking back, I should have tried mole enchiladas con vegetales. The drinks weren't bad. The margaritas did the job, but I was more impressed with that night's cocktail special, which was made with sotol, a mezcal-like Chihuahuan spirit I'd never heard of. OK Carmen, you taught me something new! We ended the night with the corn cake and ice cream, another authentic and interesting number. In the end, Casa Carmen understood its assignment as my husband's birthday dinner spot; there were no misses, but no home-runs either. Fancy, competent, but a little forgettable, Casa Carmen is doing its TriBeCa best.

There is hole-in-the-wall authenticity, and then there is the kind of authenticity that makes you feel like you're transported to one of the finer dining experiences available in Polanco. Appropriately situated on a quiet street in TriBeCa, Casa Carmen delivers on the latter. We started with a souped-up concha covered with chocolate glazing, selected from a basket of pan dulce offerings. I've had mixed feelings about Mexican sweet breads over the years and admittedly often prefer a Chinese bakery ma-sai-ga-bau ("Mexican bun"), but this one was soft and appropriately sweet. The plantain empanada appetizer was also very good, and I felt the chilaquiles could have been a bit more boiled down, as these were a bit too crunchy for my taste. The best item of brunch was actually the spiced coffee, which is apparently brewed in something resembling the large vats that adorn the walls.

Great spot in Tribeca for some mexican food. We had an early dinner reservation and the place was already starting to fill up. We ordered two apps, two entrees and a dessert to top it all off. Really can't go wrong with the ceviche or octopus tacos! My main was a shrimp and rice and which came with a side of a black sauce. Star of the show was definitely the corn dessert. Overall a great meal!

Octopus was out favorite! Great portion size and very tender. It was my first time trying mole and it was delicious. I've never had anything like it but it was very rich and had deep flavors. I didn't love the chicken that was in the mole because it was dry but it was great to enjoy the mole along with the octopus. I would skip the ceviche

I came here with coworkers after the work day last night for an early dinner and it was absolutely delicious. We started off with some guava and pineapple margaritas, which were so tasty! They give you an option of salt or tajin for your rim which I thought was so fun! We started with the ceviche, the tuna tostadas, and the quesadillas. Everything was so amazing, but the tuna tostada was out of this world!! I would come back just for that alone. I got the rib eye tacos, which were so flavorful and juicy, and we finished the night off with some churros! Chocolate and caramel dipping sauces came with it, so you really can't go wrong!! I'll definitely be back.

Aloha, when visiting the City, Michael suggested Casa Carmen. A trendy restaurant in the heart of the city. Loud, fun and great waitstaff. Everything was delicious and with signature and new vogue cocktails with mescal and tequila. Wow and yummy. Enjoy.

Great ambience , friendly servers and good food. It is pricey but it's NYC what do you expect. The crab tostadas were VERY fresh I could've eaten 5 more. The crab was also a good serving. The steak was amazing. The chicken enchiladas were ok. The sauce was good but the chicken inside was very plain. Also the corn was so spicy for some reason but if you like that deff try it.

While I can't comment on the wine list personally, I know they are well-known for their extensive selection. After placing our order, we were delivered the sesame pizza bianca, which is a complimentary starter bread with dinner. The bread was a nice size and light and airy with a perfect crust and a delicious, crusty sesame seed bottom. The prawns were our starter and came three to a dish. They were sizable, though since they are served with the head and tail, there isn't a ton of meat on them. That said, they were flavorful and juicy with a nice sauce and just the right amount of spice that didn't overwhelm the fish. The snowdance chicken was the star of the show! It was incredibly juicy and tender with perfectly prepared skin, so I was happy to learn they keep this on the menu year-round. It was topped with some spinach that was solid, though nothing special. We also ordered a side of mushrooms which came with a creamy sauce and fish roe intended to be mixed at the table. The roe wasn't fishy at all but added a great element of umami to the flavorful, well-textured mushrooms. Overall, the service was very professional, though I thought the pacing could have been improved as the dishes came out a bit slowly. I would also recommend ordering at least two dishes per person, as the three plates we shared between two people felt like just a touch too little food. I'm already looking forward to going back--I'd try the winter chicories salad or the veal sweetbreads next time, but I'm open to exploring everything since the quality is so high. I noticed a side dish listed on their online menu that wasn't actually offered in person, so it might be worth double-checking if you have your heart set on a specific item.

I made reservations after seeing their special hot chocolate on social media and had a wonderful meal! Started off with the hiramasa which was fresh and went deliciously well with the citrus-y and sweet cara cara orange, as well as the aji peppers! The castelfranco chickory salad was fresh, crunchy, slightly creamy and slightly tangy - basically everything you need in an appetizing salad! Their house sesame bread was fluffy and chewy with a good amount of sesame flavor without having too many seeds. For mains, the farfelle was very interesting and tasty! The pasta was al dente and the sauce was addicting! At first I was wondering if it would resemble a nut butter, but it was creamy with very prominent walnut flavors and interesting texture (perhaps from the blended walnut skin component?). The addition of burrata and other cheeses was perfect for a cheese-lover like me. The pork chop was flavorful, well-seasoned, and juicy. The leek and cabbage mixture soaked up all the sauce and I wish there was more! Their special hot chocolate with an espresso martini marshmallow was fire!!!! Hot chocolate was decadent, not too thick, and not too sweet. The toasted marshmallow melted quickly but definitely had coffee and alcohol flavors. The amount per serving doesn't appear a lot but appropriate considering how rich it is. The mascarpone dessert had a great balance of fluffy cream, extremely crispy phyllo, and crunchy nuts with a touch of chocolate and vanilla! For drinks, I was really curious about the bi lemongrass but they ran out. Staff recommended the semiplume, which felt like a beer, tea, and sparkling wine all at once! Loved the floral aroma and bitter tea notes. My partner's cocktails were also well executed. Staff were nice and friendly. We got seats right by the kitchen so staff often checked in with us, including the chef!! Vibes were intimate with the dim lighting and minimalist decor. Definitely want to come back to check out their chicken and other dishes!!
