I have tried other big box optometrists based on vision insurance requirements, but I always find myself back at Cary Vision Care. For me, having an optometrist work one on one with you addressing your specific home/work needs for vision care is far more valuable than saving a couple of bucks. I have to update my review. We continued to use Cary Vision Care but we have moved on. The first reason being I called to ask if we could move my husband's appointment up because he was getting headaches. I was told "just check our website multiple times a day in case there's a cancellation, we won't call you if we have one." Of course I had to find another optometrist to help us. Secondly, they still require people to wear masks (as of fall of 2022) and we are not comfortable with that. Thirdly, their best frame fitter, Jenny, is leaving. My former eye doctor in Charlotte referred me to Dr. Jeff Stikeleather when I relocated to Raleigh. He knew what he was talking about. Dr. Stikeleather is very personable and thorough, and the staff was super-friendly. Cary Vision Care's website allows you to make appointments online, as well as complete the "New Patient" paperwork and submit it electronically! I did both with no issues. This location dealt with my Health Savings Account card without a hitch -- this was the first time I'd had a credit card-like HSA card, but they knew just what to do and I had no issues. They ordered my new contacts during my appointment on Friday, which arrived three business days later on the following Wednesday. I recommend Cary Vision Care for the quality and service of the doctor and his staff, as well as the modern conveniences provided by their website. read more

Eye exam took 2 and a half hours, with me being there early (15 minutes). Waited till 45 minutes after my appt time to start, tech handed me off to doctor who made me wait 30, then got eyes dilated put in another room and waited 45 more minutes. Staff is pleasant and knowledgable, but my glasses are already a week overdue for when they were supposed to be ready and are still not ready. Considering contacting my insurance and demanding a refund if they don't come soon and going somewhere else. read more

Poor service from the store attendant. Warranty on frames or lenses not honored when they clearly should have been. Would not recommend this establishment. Since my earlier visit I was called to come in and receive the lenses that were lacking earlier. However, the prescription on the lenses is now incorrect and the frames are very loose and near unusable. I have to hold the glasses out and look through to see things clearly. So the first few times i`ve been there - all seemed to be absolutely fine - they were very nice! all went absolutely great. i bought contact lenses supplies for whole year for myself and for my husband. also, i wanted to do vision check to make new contact glasses Doctor checked my eyes and i ordered glasses. it was bad prescription, i couldnt see anything. i went back - again same story. I called them to say that i cannot see anything through those glasses, and i dont think you guys will be able to determine it, therefore let`s not do that third time, let`s just do same prescription which i had and was made back in California. i was talking to a male. he said he`ll call back. never did. i left a voicemail to the doctor - never responded. i called again, male said - yeah we are good to redo it, but you`ll need to pay 50 percent. i was speechless. They couldnt determine correct prescription and somehow i need to pay? i told that this isn`t the option and i`m willing to pay lawyer 10 times more, but this cannot be happening neither to me neither to everyone else - i shouldnt be paying for something what`s not my fault or mistake. he said he`ll call me back. Never happened. after few days i.e. today i called them back and it took me a while to find out with who i was talking to. he was nice in the beginning but afterwards somehow he decided to start yelling... and just hanged up.. lol :D i mean it`s beyond my understanding :D it`s so awful that this is even funny... but that`s not the end yet - i called again and i said that it would be great to chat with someone who wouldnt yell on me. lady said a lot, but briefly - she cannot help me - can leave voice mail to doctor or email. which is funny, because they arent responding... so here is the conclusion - it`s grea to work with them until everything goes as planned. if they do a mistake - they dont want to fix it third time, cos as they explained to me - they need to pay for it themselves... and in my opinion - you cannot trust company if they arent willing to help you especially after it`s their mistake... read more

I rarely leave a "negative review"for any establishment, but I want to share my experience with Cary Vision Care. Most of the reviews are excellent, and when I came here last year for a vision exam, I could not have been happier. The staff was friendly, and Dr. Jeff seemed kind and caring. Fast Forward a year. I had a scheduled exam yesterday for an annual check up, and was under the impression the cost would be covered by my insurance. Turns out, the eye exam was NOT covered, and I was informed I would be a "self pay patient". My budget did not allow me to to pay without insurance, and felt I needed to cancel the appointment. Cary Vision Care charged me $25.00 for a missed appointment. Were they within their rights? Absolutely. Is this their 'Standard Policy? Yes it is. Was I in error to make the appointment thinking my insurance would cover it? 100%. I was wrong. But to charge a patient for making an honest mistake and shame them into a $25.00 'Cancellation Fee' after they realise they cannot pay for the appointment without insurance is shameful. Shame on Cary Vision Care for their poor treatment of someone who was already embarrassed. Dr. Jeff may well be a great doctor, but the Center's callous treatment of me yesterday outweighs the good they might do for me and my family. We will not be back. read more

Ahh...a healthcare organization after my own heart. Wait, no - my love of queueing efficiency! Location: 4 out of 5 There are a few limitations on where my wife and I can go for our eye care needs. Specifically, because our insurance is administered through the BCBS for Federal Employees/Davis Vision, I chose Cary Vision Care because of its close proximity to where we live in addition to the fact that they had two openings for same day appointments. There's free parking dedicated to visitors in the lot that's shared by several other businesses, though the lot can get crowded by mid morning. This location is about a 10 - 12 minute drive from where we are in McArthur Park, and probably about the same length of a commute had we just taken our bikes on the greenways. Customer Service, Front of House: 4 out of 5 The receptionists that were working in the front of the building were all very lovely to talk to in person as well as over the phone. I don't really envy their jobs because while my wife and I are pretty low-key when it comes to needing things done, I imagine that this location brings in its fair share of clientele that needs more hand holding and edification. The salesperson in the frames department was extremely patient and accommodating towards a potential customer, as I listened to and witnessed the most ridiculous banter (at least to me). Ambiance/Decor: 3 out of 5 Honestly, I was a bit surprised at the quasi-sterile aura that this place gave off. Now, I wasn't expecting a high-end boutique shop where they have lavender flavored cucumber infused water from the volcanoes of Iceland ready for their customers, and I also knew not to expect that box-store mentality. I dunno - maybe it was something about the lighting and the way the front of the office was set up that made it seem a bit without character. For all intents and purposes from a functional standpoint, the waiting area was comfortable with a nice mix of reading materials. Quality of Care: 5 out of 5 Empirically and with some peer reviewed/EBM journal articles, it's been shown that patients who are interact with/are seen by/are triaged by any member of the healthcare team within 10 minutes of arrival perceive their quality of healthcare delivery to be higher than those that are not. As rational as I am, it did feel nice to be seen by one of the technicians in the first few moments. Eyecare technology seems to have come a long way just in the last 2 - 3 years, so seeing all of the images and scans was neat. I also enjoyed the "game" where you press the button when you see dots come up on a screen. Ha. The ensuite EMR/EHR package that Cary Vision uses probably shares the same traits that most packages have: functional and maybe even certified if there's a meaningful use aspect for eye doctors, but maybe not actually "meaningful". I watched my tech go from screen to screen, tediously checking individual boxes for the structured content capturing, and immediately thought that this type of procedure could lead to fatigue and potential fumbled handoffs in the worst case scenario. The level of detail in exam I got from Dr. Dantini was extremely thorough. Thank goodness that my prescription hasn't changed much (at all), but I appreciated the time and effort that she went through to essentially review my chart and images, particularly because I am extremely myopic. We're talking almost legally blind here, minus the Reese Witherspoon. SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!?!?!...cause I'm blind, not blond? People... Dr. Dantini also has that rare gift of not only being a competent doctor, but also a competent human being when it comes to the OD equivalent of "bedside manner." Value: 4.5 out of 5 My wife and I are fortunate that I have the option of selecting vision insurance at my place of work. We pay approximately 10$ every other other week, which comes to a little under 260 a year. The going rate for full eye exams in the area for spectacles and contacts is likely ~100 bucks, and since there's an allotment of 150$ for contacts per year, it works out fairly well for us. I mean, if my wife needed contacts too, it'd work out SUPER well - but that's a bit of an odd statement, admittedly. Overall: 4 out of 5 Excellent experience; will return when needed. read more

I have not had an eye appointment at a doctors office in a few years and my last few visits at some other places were not pleasant. I needed a new pair of glasses and this location took my insurance while being close to where I live. I was very pleased with their Covid measures. They ask you a series of questions before you even enter the building, require masks, take your temperature when you enter the building and have you apply hand sanitizer. Through out the office I noticed many signs saying that things are disinfected/cleaned after use which I saw happened every time after a customer. All of the staff was wonderful and very engaging! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for vision care or perhaps is nervous of going to an eye doctor. Will definitely continue my eye health with them! read more

I went to Cary Vision Care for new contacts. My doctor was Dr. Dantini and I can't say enough about how much time and effort she put into helping me get the right contacts. I have very unique eyes because i have scarring on my cornea which makes them very irregular and difficult to fit into contacts. It also causes me to NEED contacts, because glasses will not correct my vision. Since my eyese are like this the machine that is used to "chart" the topography of my corneas was unable to get a reading. We had to fit my eyes manually to find the correct pair. It was a long difficult process of trying on many different types of lenses, but Dr. Dantini stuck with me to ensure that we got one that was the best possible fit. It means a lot to me that she spent the time and effort to order all of these different lenses and fit me until it worked out because having these lenses is essentially saving me from another eye surgery. In addition to that, Dr. Dantini and the office staff were accommodating to my schedule and helped me get appointments that were after my work hours when possible. I would highly recommend Dr. Dantini. She is a caring, compassionate doctor who will work with you through your needs. read more

Jenny was the person who "helped" me; I put that in quotes because of the horrible way that she answered every question beginning with "No", even when she said "Yes". When I asked if Oakley RX Sunglasses needed to go through the Oakley Lab, her answer was "Obviously not."; who answers a question with "Obviously Not"?!? Save yourself time by going elsewhere that has a better selection of glasses, and more importantly knows how to speak to their customers. read more

By far the best eye doctor I've ever been to, but there are a few minor things that bring them down a star. First, the Good: Dr. Stikeleather is a great MD. He's personable, knowledgeable, and generally runs on time (a GIANT plus in my book). He takes his time to explain things and really tries to find whatever product will best suit your needs. His staff is also very friendly and efficient. They even went so far as to me email me my prescription mere minutes after I had called and asked for a copy. The Not so Good: More than once I've called and had to leave a message on voicemail immediately. They've always called back within a few hours and while I know they only have one person at the front desk, I wish there was a backup to put me on hold instead of voicemail. The biggest issue I've ever had there was when I went for my standard eye test and they wanted to run a scan. I had never seen the machine before during a standard eye test and was told that it's a routine test to see if I had any issues with my eye. I had to ask if it was covered by insurance before being told that it would be...if anything ended up being wrong with my eye. I'm glad I asked, and the only reason I did was because I ended up having to pay out of pocket with Eye Care Associates a few years back for a test they never disclosed may not be covered by insurance. I would not recommend Cary Vision Care at all. While Dr. Stikeleather himself was fine, he left in the middle of the exam to go back to a patient who had left their glasses at home and had just returned. Having to keep two 10 month old babies occupied for 20 unnecessary minutes was not appreciated. However the worst part has been the ladies handling the glasses order. After our first pair did not work out I called them to get a different pair. It took a month for SOMEONE ELSE to call me and say our case was passed on to them and they were basically starting from scratch. It then took ANOTHER MONTH just to get a pair of glasses for my daughter to try on. It has now been another month with no communication. As soon as we get these glasses I will never return to this office and will find another place. read more

Overall the service is above average. They have very fancy machines and some fancy exams. The doctor is really nice. Before I find a better one, I'd go back. Dr. Stikeleather: 5 Assistants (those operating machines/taking images/taking blood pressures, etc.): 4 Front desk: 3 Other services (those working on fitting glasses): 1. having eye exams done there many years of my whole family and asked one of those to do me a favor of replacing one nose pad of my glasses and they declared yes; after I indicated that I didn't get this particular pair of glasses there, they happily told me it's $5 for doing it. When I refused their "offer," they even refused giving back my glasses initially. [yes, I got can will be able to get complimentary/free replacement of nose pad in many locations, if not almost any locations. And my family probably bring them $1,000s of revenues so far, they want to charge me $5 for a nose pad? Better to have their brains checked in a hurry. read more

There is no place for a snobby attitude in the workplace. Calm down. I get you're probably tired because you are working all day, but no need to be negative towards a customer/patient. I will never return to Cary Vision Care. I have been a patient for years and was happy until 2 years ago. I went in and saw Dr. Stikeleather (my usual doctor). He kept leaving my exam to start with other patients and couldn't get my contacts right. I left after 2 and a half hours with my old prescription, a scratched eye, being forgotten in an exam room and being overcharged. I went back this year, but decided to see Dr. Dantini. She was running about 15 minutes behind (not a huge deal) and I finally got my exam started with the technician. I was told there would be a $25 copay in addition to the $10 for the exam for a contact fitting. No problem, it's always been that way with my insurance. She had some issues finding the right prescription again so she dilated my eyes and told me someone would come get me in about 15 minutes. About 40 minutes later, I went up to the front desk and was informed that she had forgotten about me. She came back in and got me the correct contacts. When I went up to the check out desk, I was shocked to find out my copay had gone from $35 to $50. She explained that it was because I had to be refitted and she had to spend extra time with me (apparently forgetting a patient for more than 30 mins = extra time). I said that it had never been explained to me that it would cost more to get the correct contacts and that I was quoted $25 as a copay. This debate continued and she asked "if I would rather go back to my old prescription where I can't see" because that was the only way to drop the fee. Very unprofessional. I finally just paid and left. They won't give me my prescription until I go back for a follow up that I will probably be charged for. I'll deal with it through my insurance and I will never go back. Two years in a row of being forgotten in a room and overcharged. Unacceptable. read more

I've been a patient at Cary Vision Care for at least 10 years, probably longer. The service and care given have always been excellent. In addition to routine eye exams, I've had three incidents over the past few years when I had an eye infection. Dr. Stikeleather even returned my call on a Friday evening when he was at the beach with his family. He said he would have met me at the office even though it was late, but he was on the coast, so he recommended drops that I could purchase and use until he returned the following Monday when I made an appointment. In all three cases he prescribed antibiotic drops that cleared the infection in days and gave me almost instant relief. He has a very wide range of glass frames available in the office. Any time I've had a problem with my glasses he has taken care of it quickly. Reservations can be made online on their website or by calling the office. They have different office hours on different days to help patients with their schedules. I highly recommend Cary Vision Care for all eye care needs. read more
