I visited NC Eye (Apex) to purchase a new pair of eyeglasses using my one-year-old prescription. Unfortunately, I was told they would not fill it, even though I explained that I will be losing my insurance coverage in the next few days. Dr Samuels does not use numbing drops during dilation. I was not told this. I was not told "hey, this might hurt a bit" about literal hellfire. Eyes are sensitive organs and I was not told anything about the machines or tests that were done during my exam unless I asked about them, but I was also not given time to ask about anything before it happened. I felt like I was being experimented on because no one would tell me what the hell was going on. Keep in mind this was my first eye exam in years, and my second ever, so I had no idea what was supposed to happen during this appointment. I told them this, and they still treated me this way. Horrible overall experience, and I would not recommend for anyone who likes explanations, has sensory issues, or has not been to an eye doctor before. I will never be coming back. read more

Front desk employees are very nice, but the doctor has no bedside manner, seemed less than pleased to be working, and gave me a prescription too strong for my vision. Then he hardly seemed to care to fix it. All the while, telling me that I would "most likely" have cataracts in 15 years, so why get laser?! No personal input whatsoever, and bad advice. Short Version: My 3-yr. old had the wrong glasses for almost 6 months. This location was so close. The family seemed nice. I wanted to love this place. At first I did, until . . . My pediatrician recommended my 3-year old see an optometrist. I called NC Eye because they were geographically close and confirmed they treated children. (Bad parenting decision and significant mom guilt followed.) It was confirmed my daughter needed glasses and she received a prescription in Summer 2018. During a 6-month follow-up, we were advised that she needed a new lens prescription but could keep the same frames. We were also advised that we may need to start patching my daughters eye but could discuss further at our next visit. In January 2019, the lenses arrived. The onsite optician swapped the new lenses in a couple of minutes and we were on our way. In May 2019, my daughter had her 4-yr appointment with her pediatrician. I mentioned the suggestion of patching and he voiced concerns. I asked if he could refer me to a pediatric ophthalmologist and he readily agreed. In June 2019, we saw a pediatric ophthalmologist. She did not agree with patching. During our appointment, she pulled multiple staff members in to check both my daughter's eyes and glasses. My daughter has astigmatism and the practice found that the glass lenses were swapped, the right lens was over the left eye and vice versa. The prescription was also off a bit, enough to warrant a new one, but not enough to be concerned about the original prescription. I was livid that my daughter had been dealing with this for ~6 months. I ordered her new glasses from the ophthalmologist (costing ~$400 out-of-pocket, because my insurance benefits had been used in January, in addition to the ~$100 visit). In August 2019, I reached out to NC Eye Associates to make them aware of the situation and to request the courtesy of being made 'whole' for the unexpected cost of new glasses. In September 2019, NC Eye Associates responded via letter. I followed up with a phone call. They explained that there were two key reasons why they were not able to offer further assistance. (1) All of their glasses went through two inspections, so it would not have been possible for the glasses to go out with the wrong lenses. After further questioning their processes, we agreed that my daughter's glasses had only gone through one inspection (the onsite optician) b/c they were swapped onsite. Lucky for them, they have an optician who not only never makes mistakes but also has a stellar memory of a routine task that occurred 6 months prior - he confirmed that he had swapped the lenses correctly. (It still remains unknown how my daughter ended up wearing the wrong glasses for 6 months). (2) If I had concerns or experienced issues and needed a 2nd opinion, I should have gone to them. Since I did not go to them for the 2nd opinion they were not able to help me. I did confirm the medical definition of 2nd opinion. (In medicine, the opinion of a doctor other than the patient's current doctor. The second doctor reviews the patient's medical records and gives an opinion about the patient's health problem and how it should be treated.) Given this practice only has one optometrist, it would have been impossible for me to get a 2nd opinion from NC Eye Associates. Needless to say but worth re-emphasizing, I would not recommend this practice. (During my phone call with NC Eye I did advise that I would be sharing my story. She did not express any concern.) read more

Moved to the area last year and needed to establish care. My husband is very picky about eye doctors so he went first to get a new glasses prescription. He loved the staff and doctor! So, I went and had a great experience as well. They were able to schedule me quickly as I was almost out of contact lenses. The exam was thorough and there was no upselling. I was given two different kinds of contacts to trial and I was just seen for follow up. They listened to my feedback and ordered the pair that I liked best. Which was not the more expensive, by the way. I'm so glad that I found a great eye doctor so close to home. Plus I could run to the grocery right beside of it for last minute meal needs. read more

Dr Samuels and his staff are amazing. I have seen many doctors for my issue and by far Dr Samuel's has been the best. Truly cares and spends quality time at the appointment and even with follow up questions His staff always give a warm welcome and ask how I am and truly care also. read more

I saw Doctor for medical reasons and it was a wonderful experience. He explained the condition in great detail, carried out the necessary tests to prove the diagnosis and I was very happy with the whole experience at the end of my visit. He is a great doctor. All the staff is also very nice and helped me to a great extent to setup appointment, performing tests etc. I recommend NCEye associates whole heartedly read more

I awakened with a swollen and very painful eyelid. I phoned NC Eye Associates and spoke with Dr. Samuel's friendly front-desk staff, Tyffanie. After explaining my symptoms, she set me up a Telemedicine conference with Dr. Samuels for 45 minutes later. Dr. Samuels was in the virtual room waiting when I got there. He looked at my problem and diagnosed it within a few minutes. Within an hour, the pharmacist was alerting me that my prescription was ready. I'm now two days into my antibiotic. My eyes feels so much better and I'm grateful for not having a long wait to see him. Great work, Dr. Samuels! read more

My whole family comes to NC Eye Associates and see Dr. Samuels and his staff. They are are amazing at what they do and take such good care of us. I LOVE Dan and how excellent he is with fitting you with glasses, not just the way they fit you but they way the look on you. His expertise and guidance is the best. And Tyffanie is so helpful and sweet, her knowledge with insurance and helping you figure it out is awesome. I looked high and low to find an eye doctor like Dr. Samuels and his group, and I am so glad I did, I will not go anywhere else and would recommend his practice to anyone without hesitation! read more

I had a great first visit with the team. I was seen promptly at my appointment time, which I appreciate very much. It was the first appointment of the day, so it sets a great tone. The staff was friendly and professional. The doctor had a very personable manner and didn't push me to get extra services or glasses I really didn't need.
