Was passing through this pocket of New Jersey when we decided to stop for breakfast. Although there were a couple other highly-rated diners in the area, Carver's had the most reviews of the bunch. There is plenty of street parking as well as a public parking lot across the street available. The space is pretty cozy and even on a weekday morning, we had to wait a couple of minutes for a table for two. We ordered the Traditional Breakfast Special ($8) which comes with two eggs of your choice, hash, homemade toast, and a breakfast meat of your choice in addition to the Florentine Omelet ($10) which comes with homemade toast and hash. The food was pretty good and I especially enjoyed their house-made multigrain toast. There was something special about the taste, maybe it was caraway seeds but I'd highly recommend it. You can also tell Carver's uses fresh ingredients; the spinach in my omelet was very high in oxalates and left an intensely gritty and chalky taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. I can't fault them for using fresh spinach instead of frozen, but blanching the spinach before using them would have made a huge improvement. read more

I have been here several times and the stuffed French toast, roast beef sandwich and tuna sandwich are to die for. The staff is personable, efficient and knowledgeable. Wish I could get there more often. read more

Hands down the best egg sandwich in NJ. The homemade roll is amazing, eggs are fresh and they pile on the bacon. Servers are consistently friendly and attentive. All the food at Carvers is great (LOVE the homemade bread) but for whatever reason I never ordered the egg sandwich. Can't believe I've been missing it all these years. read more

Best breakfast. Always so delicious! Everything is home made on premise, including breads, soups and awesome daily specials. Don't forget the sweets in the bread case! read more

Just awesome food, but the service is the thing that brings it to 2 stars. Can't understand how sometimes you're just ignored especially by the one with short dark hair. Every time!!! They are very slow to clean tables and give checks which creates long wait lines. read more

Loved this little diner like setting. Fresh and onsite homemade breads, muffins, pies. Meats done fresh there. Breakfast and lunch only food was tasty and ample. Service was good, pretty fast. staff polite read more

Food is great . The service is nice fast and friendly and the ambiance is very small cute and cozy to eat in there may be a wait but it is worth it. read more

Really good food, cooked to order and fresh. Friendly staff, quaint setting. Always look to see what the specialty home made bread of the day is, for sure. I mostly go for breakfasts and have never been disappointed. Don't miss out on the Philly Cheesesteak Omelet when it's offered--it's delicious. Also a fan of menu regular, the Chicken Broccoli Ranch Omelet. Yum! Potatoes are good, the roasted veggies are amazing. They also try to have one type of flavored coffee which is fun. read more

The besssst pancakes ever! I also highly recommend the rosemary, parm toast. Even if the line is long, just wait. They turn over tables so quickly. read more

Delicious!!! Super generous portions, great price and top quality. You can tell they make everything fresh in house. Excellent customer service. Will def come back and recommend to friends. read more

Stopped here with a friend for a quick lunch the other day. We were seated pretty quickly, they were just freshly cleaning the table we ended up with. The service was welcoming and friendly, food was served quickly and in decent portions at decent prices. It didn't really blow me away, but it wasn't a bad experience either. It fit the need of the moment. I try to be very honest in my reviews because, I mean, that's the point, to give people a clear idea. It was not my impression that this is a spot to get excited about going to or go out of your way to try. However, it is a friendly local spot for people in that area or passing through, where you can get a quick affordable meal that is pretty good. read more

PROS: this place was a nice little place that has a wide selection of good tasting food with fast and friendly service to back it up. It's very clean and they turn over tables real quick. CONS: the place can only hold a few people in it and there's only street parking. In addition to that there's only a one person bathroom for both genders to share OVERALL: this place was very nice and satisfying, I do suggest going here, but not with a large group read more

Homey little spot with big flavor in their breakfast!! Everything I've had from here is fresh and yummy every time. You can tell that everything is made in house including the bread for the toast, the muffins & the corned beef hash. They are always super fast with takeout. This little business front is definitely a hidden gem here in denville!! I will continue to be a repeat customer :) read more

The food was very good. Tiarra provided excellent service. It's a quaint little place with a lot of locals.

This is one of my favorite brunch places (FYI, this used to be Doc's Kitchen but everything else is still the same). The prices are very reasonable and the portions are very generous. I usually order their omelettes and I'm always stuffed afterwards. I've tried other entrees as well and they were all excellent. I really like the Meat Lover omelette and the Chili Rancheros omelette (I think that is what it's called, its not on the menu.. they had it on their daily special once). Oh, and you can't go wrong with the corned beef hash either! If you are coming on the weekend, come here early because the wait can take a while since it is a small restaurant. There's almost always a wait (it gets worse later on during the day). However, service has always been good and quick for me. Parking shouldn't be an issue. If you can't find street parking, there is a 3 hour parking lot across the street. read more

THIS PLACE USED TO BE KNOWN AS DOCS KITCHEN!! The owner and staff are the same. Doc's Kitchen used to be owned by two people. One of the owners didn't live in NJ and his share was bought out and the name of the restaurant was changed. Nothing other than the name has changed. The Menu isn't that large but it doesn't matter because everything that is on this menu for Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch are great! Omelets, pancakes, waffles, and sandwiches. You can't go wrong with any of it. They'll even make special request meals if they can. They always have fresh baked loaves of bread, pies, and other baked goodies too! Everything they make is made from scratch and made in their own kitchen. This place only has one problem. ITS TOO SMALL AND ALWAYS CROWDED. Good luck coming here for a weekend breakfast with family and friends or after Church. This place is very tiny and there is always a wait. Come early and be prepared to wait and hope it doesn't rain. read more

Best breakfast spot in town. Customer service I'd great. The food is amazing. Best sausage links anywhere. And I never like home fries, but can't get enough of their home fries. There's a wait, but very worth waiting for. read more

Not sure what happened to this place but, I just ordered a taylor ham egg & cheese on a roll. I was charged $7.56 for it...really??? The people behind the counter seemed to have a problem ringing it up so I could pay. Weird...my favorite breakfast place having lived in Denville for 10 years. Not sure it's the same... read more

Gross. I ordered tomato juice. It had a thick layer of mold, white and green. I told the owner, and he had the nerve to tell me there was nothing wrong with it in a nasty manner. My son and I were revolted. read more

This is a nice little breakfast/lunch spot right in the heart of Denville. I recently had the opportunity to stop in for a late lunch. Since it was later in the day, there were plenty of seats. I can imagine a wait during busier times. I opted for something simple, pancakes with strawberries and a cup of coffee. Everything was very good! Next time, I'll try one of their omelettes! read more

Was in town picking up a gift and my boss suggested my husband and I come Here for breakfast. We are so happy we did. Saturday morning, line out the door, but they run a tight ship so we were seated within 5 minutes. I Ordered the tropical French toast, which was a special. AmaZing. He ordered the multigrain pancakes with Chocolate chips. Delish! We can't wait to come back! read more

Loved the food. I appreciate a local place offering inspired food and friendly service.

After reading the reviews and I was traveling from Ohio to hawthorn NJ I thought I would try it out. I arrived about noon and had a 20 minute wait but was crammed in a corner waiting. I was seated as my turn and waited on immediately. I ordered a omelette and piece of French toast. French toast was good, omelette had no taste to it unfortunately. I finished my meal, paid my bill and headed out to the parking lot to find a parking ticket on my car because I apparently parked on the wrong side of the 3 hour parking area. So I will not be going back to Dennville anytime soon. read more

This is a local hot spot. It's a small restaurant that is always very busy but the food is great. We go out for breakfast with my wife's sisters every once in a while. The food is excellent. The service is fast and all the servers are very friendly. Expect a wait on the weekends. read more

This is a nice place for a casual family breakfast outing or a quick brunch spot. The food was good and fairly priced. I ordered a vegetable omelette with a side of turkey sausage. The omelette was really good and the vegetables in it were cooked well. The home fries are great and paired well with hot sauce. The food was hot and fresh. Service was good, too. They were busy but our waiter was attentive. Coffee was good here, too. However the turkey sausage was very disappointing. The patty is extremely dense and the flavor was very off. Kind of tasted like tofurkey or a meat alternative. Could not get through the second patty. All in all it is a good place to get breakfast food. read more

Carver's, food-wise, is the best alternative to the diner experience in Morris County. Their sandwiches and omelets are really great, and they have specials each day which usually reflect seasonal specialties (i.e. a gobbler sandwich post-Thanksgiving). I had a warm roast beef sandwich w/ horseradish a few months ago that I still think about. They're only open for breakfast and lunch, which seems appropriate. Don't have any negatives to contribute. Servers are nice and friendly. read more

i love this local hidden maybe not so hidden gem. If you get there late you might have to wait, but usually moves fast. Good food like your visiting grandma and sent off with a big hug for the day. Always super friendly staff and their pies and baked goods are so good we always take something home. read more

I absolutely love coming here for bfast. The place is small and always packed which just goes to show you that I'm not the only one that loves this place. The staff is SUPER nice and attentive. The food is top notch and if I could, I'd buy every pastry in their display case! There has not been anything I've bought there that I haven't swooned over! Great location, great place, great service and great food! read more

Carver's is a local gem that serves up great food in a friendly atmosphere. Every breakfast dish I've tried has been amazing, specials are always fantastic, and even the coffee is good! I can't say enough good things about the service, and the love between the servers and the regulars shows! There's a reason there is a line down the sidewalk at peak times. If you're looking for great breakfast at a fair price in a relaxed setting, this is your place. read more

Small little mom and pop shoppe which is the charm of this place. Nothing fancy, mismatched chairs etc but the service is good- hard working staff and the food is even better! Always a great specials menu for unique options-especially breakfast imo. A tad of the pricey side for a luncheonette but decent portions. Worth the wait on weekends. read more

One of my favorite breakfast places! We often have to wait as it is a popular location. Very tasty food with good proportions. It's always nice to see what specials they have for the day. The location is a little small (once we had a party of nine that we had to split up) but definitely worth visiting. Service is good, the attentive staff is always around to top off your coffee and clear off plates. Very casual and friendly. Personal favorites are the eggs benedict and French toast. Highly recommend this place! read more

Carvers is a local spot that cannot be beat. All of their breads are made from scratch and are next level delicious. The mugs are mismatched, and really make you feel like you are in your parent's kitchen eating breakfast or lunch. One con- there is always a line! But seriously it's because this place is that good. Definitely a place to stop and eat if you are in the Denville area. read more

We LOVE Carver's in this house. Pre- covid we went fairly often. They used to offer outdoor eating but stopped at some point and didnt offer through covid. They also don't offer delivery which I think really hurts them. read more

We are always looking for good breakfast places in the area, so recently friends told us about Carver's. It's a quaint hometown place tucked in a side street in the middle of Denville. It's only about 15 tables so get there early or you'll wait. Yesterday was our 4th time in and the food has been very consistent. I had a simple sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, while the rest of the party had corned beef hash with eggs and pancakes. Everyone said this was the best corned beef hash they have had anywhere, but everything was very good. If you're in the area it's definitely a place to try. read more

Food is amazing here, deserving of more stars. The service however, gets worse every time I come.. Service is still terrible. Again they forgot part of our order. Even after telling them, it never came. All of the staff are very lackadaisical. Too busy chatting to pay attention to their tables. This is why Denville Diner will get the majority of our business. read more

Came here twice, once for my girlfriends birthday a few weeks ago and today, both for breakfast. I can confidently say we will be repeat customers. The service and food are perhaps one of the best my girlfriend and I have encountered so far. The pricing and portions are very reasonable. The waitress we had each time was very attentive, friendly and extreme polite (even went out of her way to offer us some extra add ons like flavored syrup / flavored butter for my girlfriend's pancake leftovers to take home). It is a small and cozy place and at the time of this review, COVID guidelines are followed with diners spaced apart reasonably from each other. One thing to note is this place is definitely popular and does get "packed" as we both came here before 8AM each time. When we left there was a line of people outside waiting to be seated as spaced opened up. read more

Went here for the first time and wouldn't recommend it, especially compared to other amazing options in the area. We went for lunch and got two sandwiches. The sauce was soaking through the bread I couldn't even eat mine. The location looked pretty dirty and when I went to the bathroom it confirmed it. It seems the bathroom is also used as a storage area with a lot of stuff and dust everywhere. Also, staff was not friendly. Our server came to the table two seconds after we sat down to ask for our order ("do you know what you want") with no smile, introduction, or anything. We said we need a few minutes and she simply walked away with zero expression or words. At no point was she friendly or nice. Not a welcoming, clean or good environment and the food wasn't good so not returning. read more
