I needed to get my wife a gluten-free birthday cake. I'd read that Carvel can do it simply by removing the crunchies inside. I walk into this Carvel. Turns out, the cake had to be made to order and that I'd have to pick it up tomorrow (OK, my wife's birthday is today, but...fine). She takes down my order and asks when I want to pick it up. I tell her I'll pick it up at 7pm (after work). This would've given them about 14 hours to make the cake. And I chose the smallest-sized ice cream cake they have. I show up the next evening to pick up the cake and show my receipt to the cashier (different girl). From the expression on her face, I immediately knew what had happened: They forgot to make my cake. But I was told it'd "Be just a few minutes." I knew it wasn't gonna be "just a few minutes." Sure enough, it turned into a half-hour. At some point, another woman shows up at the place (looked like a manager or shift leader). The cashier briefs her on the situation, and she approaches my wife and I offers to comp us with free ice cream. "No, thanks. But I'll take a discount on my cake" is what I WANTED to say, but I held back my inner-Karen. We got a free "Happy Birthday" cake stand instead. OK? I walk in to order soft serve vanilla and now the vanilla ice cream dispenser doesn't work. There's always an issue with this place now. The new owner doesn't care at all and even their employees acknowledged it. They've also gotten super cheap with their saucers because there used to be more ice cream in them, now there's less ice cream and the quality of the saucers have been stale lately. You're charging a high price for the 6 saucers, it wouldn't hurt to keep the same ice cream portions. Now there's more cookie than ice cream. Also, before there was a crunch in the saucers and now they're always soggy with a weirder taste to them every time I get them. Such a disgrace just sell the business to someone who actually cares. Is it ever a trip up north unless you visit a good old fashioned Carvel ice cream store? When I recently visited last month even though the temperature was a nice cool 32 degrees I still had to make sure to stop by a Carvel so I can say I've been to one up north. The location is very easy to find from the street because it is lit up nice and bright however there is virtually no parking and if you go at night good luck seeing parking because the parking lot is basically pitch black. It only consists of about three or four spots but even then it was difficult to make sure I was parking in the lines... Which I don't think I did anyways cuz it was so dark LOL. The interior was insanely to clean and it is a rather small Carvel but that doesn't stop it from having huge flavor! The two people behind the counter were very friendly and talked us through the pricing and sizes of the ice cream cones. In the end I decided to get a small vanilla ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles and let me say, for a small it was massive! And there was a very nice dose of sprinkles. So many that you could barely see the ice cream cone! While I loved it I could see where they could maybe use a little bit less in case you're not a huge fan of rainbow sprinkles. Prices are good and the ice cream was delicious and rich and I am going to be craving it every single time I think about New York and ice cream in general. Auburndale isn't known for ice cream, but I'm glad we at least have a Carvel! It's clean, the staff is nice, and it hits the spot when you need it. Parking is a huge help as well. Maybe it's because of the location, but this Carvel is on the pricier side and they charge extra if you want a classic, thick milkshake (made with hard ice cream instead of soft serve). They do have deals occasionally and B1G1 Wednesday sundaes are always solid. If they could consistently make thicker shakes and do it right each time, this ice cream shop would be perfect in my book. read more

I would call this Carvel Ice Cream shop the soft serve corner. When you don't see the ice cream trucks coming around, Carvel is there. The soft serve cones differ than the regular mister softee; they are wider in width and shorter, and double the price ($6). Carvel has hard ice cream too but I come for the variety of soft serve flavors. I've seen pistachio, Kit Kat, biscotti cookie, and other interesting flavors at their machines. There are a variety of toppings for the soft serve but they could only put one topping max whereas the mister softee trucks could dip the cone with up to 3 toppings. The store has dozens of cakes already premade. My favorite is getting a cake with the chocolate crunchies in the middle. They could customize your cake with any soft serve available in the store. Great family-owned establishment on Northern Blvd. My party and I came here for a quick dessert after having a Korean BBQ in the neighborhood. Lily was accommodating and extremely courteous. She wasn't hesitant to give out free samples and catered wonderfully to our needs. My friends especially liked their Kit Kat/pistachio mixed cones. I had their medium Kit Kat shake and one of their pre-wrapped cones from the freezer thinking I could finish both. Boy was I wrong? The shake was already a sweetness overload and I was struggling to even make a dent on the cone. All in all, I enjoyed my first visit at this particular Carvel. The venue was kept clean and the prices were affordable considering how much ice cream you're getting. The location is prime on Northern Blvd and there is parking. My go-to ice cream spot! Of all the bougie ice cream shops popping up all over NYC like Soft Swerve, Taiyaki and Big Gay, I'll take a simple soft serve cone from Carvel any day! My favorite by far is the pistachio! So smooth and refreshing! This location on Northern has very limited parking, and a few seats inside. But most people just come in for a quickie and then bounce. And the prices are definitely reasonable. Is it better than dunkin donut yes it's much better than dunkin but. Still not that good if you compare to local ice cream store like pesso's. I will gladly get here and get some ice cream for party because reasonable price and also it does taste good. The customer service is fast and good. They do the job on time and make sure all customers are taking care off. If you want to save a bit more that do have buy 1 get 1 special on some days. Been coming to this Carvel since I was a kid. I used to live 3 blocks away and used to get ice cream at least a few times a month. I recently moved back to the neighborhood and started going back again. I make sure to go on Wednesday nights with my boyfriend for the buy one get one sundaes. I always get the soft served mint with m&m's, whipped cream and chocolate syrup hold the cherry. My boyfriend gets the soft served Pistachio with reeses peanut butter cups, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and 2 cherries (he takes mine lol) The ladies behind the counter are always friendly and patient. The location is very convenient - right on Northern Blvd. This location is not as busy as the one on Francis Lewis so they are able to take your order right away! The employees are super nice and gave great suggestions for toppings. For years all I had to do was walk down a single block to get ice cream from what used to be my favorite frozen dessert company of all time. And I went through several stages as well; having not been here in awhile, hopefully they still have them so that this review is at least somewhat valid! The bonnet: Chocolate or vanilla ice cream enrobed in frozen dark chocolate, on a cone. Fabulous, though the chocolate was so snappy that it'd nearly shatter upon being bitten into! Butterscotch, strawberry, and chocolate pre-packaged sundaes: I adored butterscotch the best, and the vanilla ice cream was the soft serve. Ice cream sandwiches: Flying saucers I believe these were called? I always preferred the vanilla version, though both were irresistible when beginning to melt and soften; far better than any Klondike bar! The Famous Ice Cream Cake: Who hasn't had this? A tuxedo-like interior of vanilla and chocolate surrounding a center of chocolate "crunchies" that added a perfect texture to the otherwise silky cake. My dog loves soft serve cone and I usually take him to the McDonald drive thru. But on this day, i think it was July 4 holiday, the McDonald was closed. Weird, I know. They've got your standard stuff, cake batter ice cream, pistachio, root beer floats (made with Barq's!), but what I really love about this location is that they offer green tea and red bean ice cream! Located right on northern blvd with parking so it makes it convenient for ppl to buy their cakes and be on the way. My first impression of the place when i walked in was the customer service. There was an extremely friendly teenager who greeted us with a smile. He was very polite and helpful and when we couldn't find the 6 inch cakes he actually came out from behind the counter to show us instead of just pointing a finger. The reason why they didn't get a 5 is because they didn't have any plates or forks. Just a bit inconvienced if we were going to eat the cake right away or outside, we had to make another pit stop for the utensils. So I had to go out at the last minute to buy an ice cream cake for my little nieces birthday. I decided to stop by this place since it was close to my house. first time visiting and it will be my last. I walk in and get this blank stare no greeting at all and after browsing the whole store this little girl finally offers assistance. After picking out what I wanted, I walk over and she asks me what id like to have written on the cake. Long story short I told her no thank you at first then changed my mind, apologized and asked her to have something written. She gave me an annoyed look and slammed the paper and pen over to me. When she first asked, she had the pen and paper in her hand all ready but because I changed my mind she slams the paper and pen over to me expects me to write. Uhm ? Did I do something wrong? I wouldn't have minded but it was her attitude. All she had to do was open the cake box which is what she would of had to do when asked the FIRST TIME and it was ALREADY IN FRONT OF HER .
