Always great service, the young ladies that work there have always been amazing at customer service. They offer military discounts as well which is really nice especially for a military town. The icecream is our favorite still by far, we come least once a week in the summer and biweekly other months. We get excited to try their new flavors when they come in. I would love to see ownership update and maybe clean the place better. It definitely could use it. read more

Visited this shop after seeing it from the road for years. Had never been to a Carvel before, but I did Immediately recognize "Fudgy the Whale" as I browsed the products and the adverts. There are a good amount of flavors to choose from and sample if you want. The staff were nice and were very patient with my indecisiveness. lol I ordered the "fudge brownie sundae dasher" and it was really good. Most of the ice cream cakes and such were in a deep freezer. My biggest complaint was the temperature inside the store. it was WAY too hot in there. Hot and stuffy. Cold November day and I opted to sit outside at a picnic table instead of dealing with the immense heat inside that made it seem like all the oxygen was gradually depleting from the atmosphere. However, I would definitely return to try more flavors. I just hope they utilize some good old-fashioned air conditioning next time. read more

Carvel - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

We stumbled upon this locally owned and operated Carvel location when we moved to the area last year, because we visited the Aqua Leisure Pools next door LOL. This is the spot to get a frozen treat in this corner of Chesapeake! My fam and I come here often after getting dinner nearby or just for a quick treat. The staff are always upbeat and friendly and the shop is kept clean. They have a variety of hard ice cream flavors on hand, as well as soft serve, ice cream sammies and of course, their famous ice cream cakes. Over the past year, I think we've tried just about everything from Carvel. I'm a big fan of their soft serve and usually get the soft serve by itself or milkshakes (they are made with the soft serve). Everything comes in a variety of sizes to cater to anyone's appetite and you can pretty much customize everything to your liking (for example, Cookies and Cream milkshake can be made with either vanilla, chocolate or swirl; ice creams can be topped with anything, classic sundaes can be made with any flavor soft serve with any topping etc.) They also have weekday daily specials going on (see pic): Monday - 1/2 off Sundae Dashers Tuesday - 1/2 off Carvelanches Wednesday - BOGO Classic Sundaes Thursday - 1/2 off shakes Friday - 1/2 off Banana Barges It's also nice that they stay open late (in terms of Chesapeake). As of this writing, they also offer military discount with presentation of valid ID. Thank you for your support, Carvel! Stay safe, Friends! read more

Growing up, we'd occasionally get Carvel cakes for our birthdays. I never knew they sold actual ice cream! We moved out to Chesapeake recently and I can say we have found quite the gem. It's hot out? Carvel. You want something for your sweet tooth? Carvel. Craving a second dessert? Carvel. Hands down. My oldest recently had a birthday and we got a cake from here. They did let us choose a different ice cream flavor, we got mint chocolate chip, for a bit of an up charge. They also can print edible images for the tops of the cakes. The cake was pretty good and got two thumbs up all around. Now, on to their regular ice cream. I'm a creature of habit so my top two flavors are always the cookie butter and Oreo cold brew. One scoop of each in a waffle cone? Incredible. My kiddos love their dragonfruit lemonade and the cotton candy. Their ice cream is so creamy, velvety and addicting. You know those little chocolate crunchies in the middle of the cakes? You can get them on top of your ice cream! The staff have been different every time, but they're always very kind and patient especially with my children. I really appreciate it. We're going to keep coming back and hope that the consistency remains the same. read more

Coming from one of our worst Cinema Cafe experiences that required an immediate dose of happiness and where else but Carvel can you find happiness for sale and smiles for free? I am currently stuck on their strawberry shortcake dasher. Just like it sounds, a strawberry shortcake with your choice of ice cream (mine is always strawberry-not only do you get fresh cut up strawberries but there are chunks of them in your ice cream too) and whipped cream. Today I felt like a double dose of happiness and went with a medium. Really, for me, a small is the best size but I ate as much of that medium I could just to wash away the Cinema Cafe sadness that was smothering me. The young ladies here are always so helpful, friendly and willing to give you suggestions and samples of the yummy ice cream. Today we had the place to ourselves so I didn't feel rushed and when I was ready, they gladly made my smile to go. My first review wasn't the best experience for me here but they have been making up for it each time we're here. Thank you for the happiness and the wonderful attitudes. Y'all rock! read more

Ice cream was good but costly for what little you get. I'd rather find somewhere cheaper to get my ice cream

I had a very bad experience with this location. I called and spoke to an individual named Meghan regrding a cake with an image for my husband. She gave me the email address to send the image. She informed me to send the image to carvel1855@gmail.com. I prepaid for the cake and we agreed that I would pick the cake up the next day at 1:30pm. I spoke with her for approximately 26 minutes about the cake, how I was using a Halloween photo for my husband and I mentioned please don't judge the photo as it was his Halloween costume. She laughed and said no judgment here. She asked what color I would like the border and I mentioned the picture has quite abit of orange in it so let's go with orange. My daughter picked up the cake for me but she was not aware of the details of the cake. When I came home from work the cake did not have the image of my husband on it. I called the store and informed as my husband's birthday was the following day. The store rep said she had to call the owner to inquire about what to do regarding the error. I was appalled when the owner suggested there was nothing he could do for my inconviencee. No apology, no soory for your inconvience. He stated that I could return the cake to the store and exhange it for the new one and they would not charge me the $10 for the imaging. It took him over an hour to return my call and he implied that it is my story versus the employee. He could not answer the fact that an email was provided to me to ssend the image and I had proof of the email. I asked him did he look at the email. He said he did not. I am a business owner and this is such a poor way to conduct business. In the past five years I have bought my husband's cake at this store but I will take my business else where. The owner was rude, condescending, unapologettic and did not take accountability for their error. This is great example of how someone can have a business but not know how to do business. This Carvel did nothing to make it right. Stop taking your customers for granted and treat people how you want to be treated. I have spent the last three hours on this matter when I could have been attending to other matters for my husband's birthday. Zero stars for poor customer service and inability to rectify the situation. read more

Coming here to order and pick up my daughter's birthday ice cream cake was a breeze. When I came to order, the young lady who helped me stopped what she was doing, grabbed her order notebook, and immediately came to assist me. She answered all of my questions with a quickness and helped me to make the best choice in what I was looking for. That same attentiveness and quick customer service was there when I came to pick up my order days later. I was a little surprised by the cost of the cake, but I do know that Carvel can be a little pricey. Anyhow, the price was well worth it! My baby girl enjoyed it and so did the few family members that we shared it with! The cake was very pretty and the chocolate "crunchies" were a big hit! From Flying Saucers and yummy ice cream cakes to simple ice cream cones with sprinkles, I'll definitely be making another visit to this location soon! read more

Great variety of ice cream flavors along with sundaes and milkshakes options. There are ice cream sandwiches and cakes ready to take with you too. I got the cookie dough dasher. You can choose soft serve or hand dipped ice cream and it is combined with syrup, candy and whipped cream. They even allowed me to substitute peanut butter syrup for caramel. Delicious deserts...give it a try. read more

I came to this Carvel location just looking for a plain pink cake for my wife's birthday so I could decorate it myself in a Harry Potter theme. Turns out, they were able to decorate it in the way I was going to. I put my trust in them because I was worried that I would mess it up. They absolutely nailed it. I couldn't believe how perfect the cake looked when I picked it up. I would highly recommend this Carvel location to anyone and everyone. read more

The staff greeted us as we entered the brightly lit establishment. Upon entering, wonderful aromas of sweet cold treats wafted in the air and posters of scrumptious frozen desserts beckoned as if enticing you to try them! There were way too many choices to give due attention. Plenty of amazing Halloween milkshakes, Fall seasonal soft serve ice cream like the Bourbon Pecan caramel, and creative seasonal cakes for any occasion, special or otherwise. Their Bourbon pecan caramel soft serve tickles the the taste buds and just goes down ever so smoothly that it will have you wanting more! The friendly staff were more than willing to explain all the wonderful seasonal choices.. and offer samples should you agonize over which flavor to choose. The servings are generous and flavors divine! If you have a mean sweet tooth, this place will deliver over the top choices you can't resist!! read more

The ice cream is the best around, but it's no longer worth the price. Was already expensive before COVID and they have raised the price numerous times since. It's pretty unreasonable for what it is, ice cream. In addition, they don't even fill the cup up all the way. I bought a large sundae tonight, and it had the same amount of ice cream as the small that others ordered with me. I've been coming here for a long time as a regular customer, but I'm done overpaying and not getting what I pay for. Everything is at least $1.50 overpriced. read more

This is a nice little find since moving to Chesapeake. It's down on South Battlefield and I have to pass a Dairy Queen to get here, but it's totally worth it! When you step inside they definitely have the whole retro thing going on and it works nicely. The counter is over to the left side as you enter and partially along the back. To the right are some coolers full of sodas and in the middle you find old ice cream parlor stools and chairs covered in red with metal banding around them. It's a nice touch. On my visit I picked up a peanut butter and chocolate milkshake. I don't remember the cost but it wasn't expensive and was oooooooh so delicious. The people working there were very nice and it seems like it's a family operation. I noticed on the way out there's also tables and chairs outside which will be especially nice once once spring and summer get here. I think on my next visit I'll bring Jango and hook him up with a scoop as well. read more

Carvel - Taking my son for birthday ice cream. Great service and amazing ice cream. Definitely recommend. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

I was thrilled to find out there are two Carvels in this area when we moved here. This one in Chesapeake and the other one in Virginia Beach. They have lots of flavors to choose from. The facility was clean and bright. They have picnic tables out front. I can imagine this is a popular spot with the teenagers. The ice cream cones are affordable. They also have daily specials. I had the Oreo mint ice cream. I was hoping for a more minty flavor. It was a bit bland. I tried my son's strawberry ice cream and that was pretty good. He said he would've liked a larger scoop. The single scoop is like a child size scoop. I thought the drip holders were pretty cool. Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. I do plan on returning and trying a different flavor. read more

Great service. Yummy ice cream. To be honest, I generally come here for their ice cream cakes which is tradition in my family!

Much better than Baskin Robbins, but I wish they would stock what they advertise. I visit frequently, and the last six times I've gone, they have not had marshmallow topping in stock. All those times except today at least had the pink/purple marshmallow topping for their unicorn fairy creation thing that they were able to substitute. Neither the marshmallow topping nor the unicorn marshmallow topping were available this last visit, despite both items being advertised on the menu. I was such a frequent customer that Google maps would suggest my destination every time I got in my car on Friday afternoons, but this definitely defeats my purpose of going there. read more

Very patient with our group of kids! So many choices! Love tasting the ice cream, so hard to chose!

Went in yesterday to order my daughter's bday cake.... What a nightmare!!! Picked the design from their binder. Went through picture, size, icing color etc w the lady working. Prepaid and headed home happy to have it off my list. Get a phone call today that the person who assisted me yesterday "is kinda new and didn't charge you enough and we don't know what cake to put the picture on". I go through things steps by step AGAIN only to get there and see the picture is entirely wrong. AND I get to pay almost $20 more!!!! So just to recap, they got my cake wrong, charged me the wrong price, I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for them to fix them and I still got to pay more. Definitely will not be ordering anything from them again. Should've gone to farm fresh, bought one out of the freezer section and decorated it myself read more

Large, clean store with no line run by nice Asian people. I'd go here every time, but they are quite a drive from my house.
