Absolutely incredible place. I could eat here every day. Fully satisfied, emotionally.

Let me preface my review: My name is Brandon...and I have a Jewish Deli addiction. I've made pilgrimages to Katz's. I ugly-cried when I found out Carnegie Deli in NY was closing. If you're not sure where I am at any given moment , a good first place to check is the 11 City in Chicago, regardless of the fact that I live in Texas. I am a goy - a mentsh - your run of the mill Catholic white shlemiel. I don't keep Kosher, and probably have no business at a Jewish deli, but...L'chaim! Living in Fort Worth, Texas for the last 7 years, I hadn't really bothered looking for any good Jewish Delis, for the same reason I don't bother looking for a good place for deep-dish pizza. When I get a hankering, I often resort to making my own matzo ball soup at home, Manischewitz-style. Otherwise, I'm usually just hanging my head as I make my way through every delicious, Texas-sized portion of smoked meat...counting the days until my next trip up North. Alas, the stars were about to align...cue Carshon's! The Yelp reviews seemed somewhat promising. Folks were bothered that they didn't accept debit/credit card...OK, soooo do your homework before you go someplace new *check*. It was 11:15 on a Thursday morning and we walked in to the older, almost dive-ish ode-to-yesteryear. We sat down and were one of only two tables occupied in the place...Eeek, I was concerned! Rule #1: Never expect to enjoy any place that has a bunch of empty tables. My goodness, in a matter of 15 minutes, there *literally* (actual "literally," not "teenage girl literally") wasn't a single empty table in the entire place - PACKED house!!! I'm about to understand why... The waitress was such a sweetheart. Huge smile on her face, so polite and friendly, wishing every table that sat down a "Merry Christmas" (totally awesome, despite being slightly humorous at a Jewish Deli). I don't often carry cash, but had $27 in my wallet for some reason. As we perused the menu, I was doing some quick math - $27 for the two of us, including tax and tip. Taking it back to the early 2000's, it had been a while since I had to think about how much I was able to spend at a restaurant without having the comfort of knowing that I'll just use a card if I don't have enough cash *wipes brow*. I ordered a traditional half hot pastrimi on rye and a cup of matzo ball soup. My husband ordered the waitress' recommendation, the "Rebecca" sandwich, which was pastrami, turkey, cream cheese (huh?!), and russian dressing - a bit of everything thrown together on a triple stack of egg bread. My soup came out quickly and was blissfully satisfying. It was a traditional chicken soup with shredded chicken and vermicelli noodles, the matzo ball was large, cloud-soft, and delicious! Folks who know matzo balls have certain preferences. Some prefer floaters and some prefer sinkers - I'm a floater kinda guy, so this was perfect. When the sandwiches came, I quickly smeared mine with the fresh deli mustard that is placed on the table each morning to live throughout the day. I dove in and was instantly whisked away to a far away land...somewhere that actually has snow. The rye bread was masterfully toasted, the pastrami was packed full of flavor, the mustard added the perfect kick, the caraway seeds giving a little texture, with the most innocent drip of grease falling to the table. My husband took his first bite and I'm pretty sure I saw his eyes roll back in his head. After regaining the ability to speak, he sensually remarked "Oh. My. God. This is the best sandwich I've ever had." Needless to say, we rather enjoyed our experience. We will be back regularly to eat anything that isn't bolted down at Carshon's Jewish Deli in Fort Worth. This is a favorite local deli and everyone I take here loves it. The sandwiches - the meat - are just fantastic. And the pie is out of this world!! I'm always the youngest customer when I go here - and beware the lunch rush. Come super early or super late. The waitresses are nice but the lady manning the cash register (cash only!) is always in a bad mood. But she doesn't keep me away! Love this place! read more

Nice little New York deli and I mean little. If you drive by too fast, its easy to miss! Seriously when you think about a movie from the 70s and the peeps are in a deli, this i what I tend to imagine. Cash only. Reasonably priced. Great service. One reviewer said they didn't like white people...Idk what the hell she's talking about...I was the only black person in there. It was packed and everyone else was white. Everyone was having a great time. The old italian couple at the next table suggested the Rebecca and the rueben. We got both and you know what? One of the best damn rueben's I've ever had. I did a little research and found out this place has been here for over 60 years! Lets hope for another 60! read more

Small town diner in the city, food was fresh and the menu was simple and easy for a first timer to order. The selection reminded me of New York Jewish restaurants. The only downside to this establishment is that the clientele resembles that of a Donald Trump rally during election. From what I understand, Carshon's has been around since 1928. That's a long time so they must be doing something right. My husband and I had been looking for kosher and New York delis since we moved here a year ago. In my experience, that's where the 'real' sandwiches are, but they don't seem to be abundant near the Southlake/Keller sector (if anyone knows where they are, please tell me!). Anyway, I found Carshon's while doing some research online and so off we went. It's a fairly long drive there from our home just for lunch, but needing our deli 'fix' off we went. We weren't disappointed. I had a pastrami with Swiss on rye and my husband had corned beef on rye. The meat on those sandwiches was outstanding! My only complaint was that the bread wasn't as firm and chewy as what I'm used to in a Jewish rye, but nonetheless, it didn't ruin the sandwich or anything. The sandwich also came with a yummy pickle wedge. Things to note: They don't take credit cards. It's cash and check (believe it or not). They're open 9-3 Monday-Saturday. read more

Carshon's Delicatessen is not only the best deli in Fort Worth, but I once saw a national magazine that declared it one of the best five deli's in the USA (three of the five were in New York City). My favorite sandwich is the Rebecca (three layers of pastrami, cream cheese and smoked turkey), followed closely by the Ruthie (three layers of corned beef and turkey with coleslaw and Russian Dressing). Simply outstanding sandwiches. I admit, I don't think I have ever ordered anything else. I have, however, sampled the other meats and such at parties (they cater). Chocolate pie? The best in town. They make it on Wednesday's and Saturdays. My tip: order the pie when you place your meal order! They only make a few chocolate pies at a time, and can quickly run out. When they bring you the warm slice of heavenly chocolate pie with meringue topping, you will silently bless me for my advice. Indeed, you may decide to name your first-born child after me (or, if you have children already, change the eldest boy's name to mine). One of the few restaurants that, in my opinion, deserves five stars. read more

Great sandwiches, but both times I went the older lady up front was incredibly rude to my girlfriend and I for seemingly no reason. The second time she stared me down the whole time. I'm not usually one to complain about service or the rudeness of people considering I frequent hole in the wall type restaurants, many of which where customer service is not a top priority, but this lady made me feel very uncomfortable. Corned beef sandwich had chopped corned beef maybe 2 oz. The Kosher dill was not a garlic kosher dill. Rye bread was the best. Matzo ball soup had very little flavor. Owner could not smile or say thank you. What a shame only Jewish deli in FW read more

No one who has ever been to (or even seen or heard about) an authentic delicatessen would even think about wasting time here. It is not a deli. I asked for capers to go with a smoked salmon plate and they had never heard of them. The only way this place has been highly rated is because the reviewers have never actually been to a real deli and there only point of reference is Jason's deli. Trust me I have been to Katz, Barney Greengrass, and Carnegie Deli in New York and regularly travel to Dallas standout Deli News, and I think Carshon's is a joke. If you are desperate for deli food you will have to make the short drive to Dallas to satisfy the craving. Ft. Worth does a lot of things well but Deli is not one of them. read more

I was excited to try this place, but after doing so, I'm in total agreement with B.E. on this one. The only explanation for the good reviews here is that they must've been posted by those who have never been to a real deli. Maybe the pie is good, I didn't try it. But if you want good sandwiches, keep looking. The first thing I noticed on the menu is that the bologna is the same price as the pastrami. Thought that was odd but I think I now understand why. We tried the Ruthie, the Rebecca and the Reuben. They all looked good, but after taking a bite, the meat had NO flavor at all. The turkey was virtually indistiguishable from the corned beef. And the russian dressing had a funny taste to it. On the plus side, our waitress was fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. Overall, it's a bit pricey, it's cash only, the pothole-riddled parking lot is tiny, and the dining area feels like a State institution cafeteria. Cash or Check only. Yep. Craziness. I have forgotten about that rule until almost walking in here and seeing the wee sign on the door. My boyfriend goes nuts for a good pastrami or roast beef sandwich so every now and then we come here. The portions are huge. I get the Rebecca which is pastrami, cream cheese and smoked turkey with russian dressing layered on three pieces of egg bread, grilled. Really good and really filling. Carshon's...tucked away in a lonely corner of the PHS/TCU Neighborhood, it is a true jewel of the many great Fort Worth lunch choices. Their Rebecca sandwich is amazing. Always more food than I can eat by myself, it is perfect size to split with my sweetie and then share a slice of pie. We had butterscotch on this visit, and it was still warm. I highly recommend this place, my only suggestion is to not be "that guy" who asked about a ham sandwich at a Jewish Deli. read more

overall, i like this place. it was a pretty no nonsense type of restaurant. the pastrami was delicious. the chocolate pudding cake was a little strange for me. the cake was cold and there were walnuts in it. i would probably come back for the pastrami. i need to mention. cash and checks only. no credit/debit cards. read more

If you are from Southern California and expect Kantors, Art's of Jerry's, you will be disappointed. Notwithstanding that this is not a full fledged Jewish Deli, it is the place to get some really good sandwiches at reasonable prices. It gets four stars for a reason and it is not the ambiance. It is the food. It has been in Fort Worth forever and that speaks volumes. People were ordering pie right and left, so I expect that would be a no-brainer to order for dessert. In fact the chocolate pie was already sold out at 1:00 PM. Not sure you will have room for dessert, because if you get a sandwich and a side, you will probably need to pass on dessert. Stepping into an authentic deli, this place looks and tastes like time has stopped in it. Its quaint setting allows the flavors to be the star. Once you bite into that toasted Ruben sandwich you'll think you were in a classic new york deli. If you have room after your sandwich (trust me you want to have room) order the sweet delectable "Strawberry Delight." This itself is worth the trip to the old time deli that only excepts cash. No fancy credit card machines here so bring your wad. read more

This was not what I was hoping for. The reuben was decent, but not big, no sides, at all. Not an experience I was happy with. The service was not good, in the least. We spent 10 minutes waiting before even an oh has someone gotten your drink order? Then the server came, no words, just, what do you want. No follow up, then the lady at the register wouldn't even smile just took our money, no talking and slapped our change on the counter, not even the grace to hand the change to my husband physically. Great sandwiches and amazing home made deserts made fresh everyday!

My husband were taking my father-in-law to lunch. We were in the mood for fresh sandwiches and my FIL suggested Carshon's. Having never heard of it before, I was a little hesitant. We showed up to this hole in the wall location, walked in and were told to find an empty table. There were several open tables but several other guests dining already. My husband and I immediately were drawn to The Rachel, turkey & corned beef with russion dressing, cole slaw, and swiss (we subbed swiss for provolone). My FIL got the Reuben. ALL of us were very pleased with our lunch. The sandwiches were fresh, delicious, and served within a very reasonable time. I will definitely be back here for another fresh sandwich! Fresh food. Our office staff has to satisfy the craving for Carshon's at least once a week. If I'm super hungry, I go for the Rebecca. If I'm not so hungry, I love the tuna salad sandwich. Their brownies are to die for, don't leave without at least taking one to go! read more

We haven't lived in Fort Worth for over a year and we still talk about Carshon's with our mouths watering. The Rebecca, Ruthie, Rachel...they're all killer. It's a wonderful family business and the next time we are in FW it'll definitely be one of our first stops. It's an old school deli like my grandparents would have taken me to. I'm not a fan of the deli salads, but the sandwiches are huge and more than fill me up (with leftovers). Oh, and get a lemon bar - never a mistake! read more

I've been here several times and was quite disappointed in our experience today. The pie is good and the food is below average, but the service today was the worst I've experienced in a while. Usually the staff is par, but after my experience today I don't plan to go back. The waitress was rude, and the lady who checked us out at the front was an unhappy person as well. Our drinks never got filled & the waitress practically ignored us. We didn't complain while we were there but don't plan to go back. The only reason I gave two stars is because the chocolate meringue pie is delicious. read more

Well after many of years of hearing about this place I decided to drive all the way out here and give it a try. Automatically a big letdown considering that they do not except credit cards.
