I contacted Ty at Portfolio Motors and explained to him that I was in Iowa and never bought a single item from eBay and now im making a fairly huge purchase and was a little scared. Ty reassured me of the standard protections that I had with the purchase but, if there was anything he could do to make me feel more comfortable with purchase he would help in any way. I remember him saying, I would much rather have a happy customer lol. The best idea I could think of was to have the car inspected by a Volvo dealer but, again, I was in Iowa. When I brought the idea up to Ty, without hesitation he said just let me know when to bring it to the mechanic and I'll have the mechanic contact you directly. I told the mechanic, I don't even mind paying extra...in just want every possible opperating system looked over twice lol. I was a bit paranoid to say the least. You always hear these odd ball stories. The following day I spoke with the mechanic and he said I looked at everything, common things, uncommon things, out of the blue things and I have to say... you found a diamond. He couldn't even recommend an oil change. Everything was perfect. Ty then took more time out of his schedule to go and pick up the car. Now we just about ready to begin shipping scheduling and I woke up one morning and REALLLLLY wanted the windows tinted. It's not so easy to find window tinters in Iowa. Sooooo, I asked Ty. He knew of a guy that did great work. I cautiously asked if he would mind dropping of to get tinted and again without hesitation he said "no problem". I offered extra money for all his extra work and time and he out right refused. My happiness was all that mattered. So finally the day came that the big semi truck came down the road with my car and the pictures did it no justice. It was perfect. Looked like a car that was maybe 2-3 years old. Mechanically...not an issue. I had tons of fun in the snow. This car actually replaced a 2011 suburban that was totaled and I will say, I would bet any amount of money, the suburban would get stuck in the snow before the Volvo. 7 months after the purchase, I had to get in touch with Ty regarding a new state regulation in Iowa and he remembered me as if we spoke the day prior. Once again, anything I needed to process the car in Iowa, he was there to help. To say he is an outstanding salesperson doesn't even come close to fairly describing how great he is. I actually can't wait to buy another car from him. I haven't told him yet but...I've started looking and I will for sure be buying from Portfolio. Do it once, do it right, and put the customer first seems to be Ty's philosophy and someone like him doesn't come around every day. I was very lucky to have met him, got an amazing car and a friend. The sales process was incredibly smooth--no pressure, the paperwork was efficient, and the staff at the Dan Way location were professional and welcoming. However, the "after-care" has been a different story. Shortly after the purchase, a mechanical issue arose that was clearly covered under the 30-day limited warranty. While I expected a quick fix, the service department has made it incredibly difficult to actually get the car in. When there the team could not diagnose the issue and asked to have me return if the issue persists. However; The Challenges: * Scheduling: Trying to get an appointment was a headache. I was told they were "extremely busy" and couldn't see the car for over a week, despite it being a warranty issue on a car they just sold me. * Resolution: While the issue is technically "covered," the hurdle of getting it diagnosed and repaired has turned an "easy" buying experience into a stressful ownership experience. She was helping our daughter purchase a car, and throughout the process the numbers kept changing. Every time we spoke with her, more costs were added and the price was constantly adjusted. After finally agreeing on a deal, signing day became even worse. Adriana told our daughter that she had to purchase the warranty or they would not sell her the car. My husband directly asked if the warranty was mandatory, and Adriana admitted it was not but she won't sell that car without my daughter purchasing it. However, she then said that if we declined the warranty, they would require an additional $4,000 down payment in order to move forward with the sale. That immediately felt dishonest and extremely misleading. It seemed very clear they were hoping we would not carefully read the contract or question the terms. When we confronted Adriana about the contradictions, she repeatedly changed her story and claimed she "didn't remember" saying certain things. What makes this even more disappointing is that my husband and I previously purchased three vehicles from the National City location and never experienced anything like this. We were always treated fairly there. I strongly encourage anyone considering this dealership to read every document carefully, ask questions, and do not allow yourself to be pressured into unnecessary add-ons.
