My cousin used to work here almost a decade ago. She was a server and loved working there. The food is superb and the drinks are perfectly made to pair with the perfection of the food. I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone. I would go there all the time for their drinks, the food is not good at all. I have NEVER heard of a restaurant saying you cannot use your debit card unless you spend $20. As many times I have came to this restaurant usually just for drinks I was NEVER told I could not use my card unless I spend $20, corner stores usually have that policy not restaurants. Service sucked. We asked for hookah twice and never came. Asked for the check 3 times and took 25 minutes to get it. The food was not the best. The shrimp was barely cooked and had no flavor. Very disappointed with their service. Arrived at the restaurant at 9pm with my son to eat dinner, we sat there for over an hour after placing our order. The waitress was polite when I asked her for an update on our order but she never came back with one. I saw her going to every table in the section and taking orders but no update on our food. Finally my son started falling asleep and said he wanted to leave. We proceeded to walk out and no I did not pay for the beverages we had. As soon as you walk in the atmosphere is welcoming. At Carro they truly care about their customers and their business. Staff was professional and extremely accommodating to my family. As an appetizer we had the fried calamari and yuca. Mind you, you can taste the freshness of the food in every bite. For drinks be sure to get the Bujia Drink it's a flavored margarita with a corona. The Moët Mango Margarita tho . For dinner we had a pleather of Food at our table. Seafood pasta, pork chops, steaks and stuffed chicken. Almost everyone had a side of rice and beans as a side. They slow cook the rice and its amazeballs! Oh don't let me forget about the plantains - OMG! I didn't get a desert but my aunt ordered the flan and I had a taste of hers - to die for lol. The staff was more than accommodating to us taking pictures and engaging in conversation with us about what we should order and what's a favorite to the average customers. A GEM in my own neighborhood! My brother suggested Carro Cafe, after saying he'd been a few times but, couldn't remember the name! I was very reluctant. My family and i had dinner here and enjoyed the experience from start to finish! For appetizer we ordered the calamari and the yuca. It's not many places that have fresh calamari. For dinner the entrees varied from ; seafood pasta, pork-chops, steak and baked chicken. The rice was amazing, as simple as rice is, it's a very hard dish to perfect. It was fluffy and had great flavor! And of course Flan as a treat. The waitress were very nice and accommodated all of our request and took pictures for us. Their even was a band playing music on a Wednesday evening which gave the place more energy. The only thing i would change is the alcoholic beverages, i go out often and am aware of what and how much alcohol should be in a drink, we had to request more alcohol because, the drinks just did not have enough. read more

This place drives me crazy. Sometimes i go the food is good, other times its so-so. But what is consistent is the aweful poor service. Others i've recommend to go there come back with the same complaint. Yelp, this place needs ZERO stars! Where do I start? Four of us arrived at Carro Cafe for night out on the town. We arrived a little before 7pm on the day after Valentines Day. First waitress was nice, took our order, and seemed attentive. But the next thing we see, is her with her coat on, walking out of the place (we assumed her shift was over). But she didn't tell us anything and the 4 different waitresses that took "care of us" afterwards, didn't mention anything either. We waited more than 30 minutes for 2 appetizers (mind you there were only 2 other tables with customers at that point). We randomly noticed it was Happy Hour ($5 Mojitos, $5 Margaritas & $5 Sangrias), though it was never mentioned by our servers. We decided to order a couple of Margaritas and the amount of sugar in each, would be enough to send anyone into diabetic shock. We called a waitress over to change the drink, she refused, because "that's how the drink comes". Our main courses arrived (after a long wait) and still no water had been served. We requested water, and of course they bought over sparkling water, which we knew would be added to the bill. Halfway into our meals, the waitresses were quick to take away our plates if we even dared take our hands off of our plates. My brother ordered a Johnny Walker Gold drink, that ended up looking like a shot, and was charged $19 for it. I ordered a second Piña Colada and it sat at the bar (I kid you not) for 5 minutes, while waitress after waitress just kept passing by it. I was inclined to get up and get it myself. Just as I was about to though, my brother signaled that the Piña Colada was for our table, and they bought it over. We requested a dessert menu, and after a couple of minutes deciding on which dessert to order, we were ready to order. Waitress came by and picked up the dessert menu, and left without taking our dessert order (my brother had his mouth open ready to say the order, but she left!). We decided we had had enough and requested the bill. $302. I said let's review the bill to make sure it's correct. And sure enough they charged $75 for 6 drinks that were supposed to be part of the $5 Happy Hour. I complained and the waitress took the bill back to "review it". After a while we got a new bill. $247. So if we hadn't reviewed the bill, they would have stiffed us for $55! The review of the bill also allowed us to notice they added a gratuity (tip) charge. Too bad because it would've been $0.00! Anyways, after we paid with a credit card, they made you sign the last receipt and they still requested a tip!?! AFTER they had already charged the gratuity! So if you don't review the bill, you'd probably add a tip. Epic fail Carro Cafe! Never again! And I hope many people read my review and are turned away from your horrible service. read more

Came for dinner one night with the family. First time here. The service was on point . Love the decor. The waitress was attentive. Ambiance is nice. The passion car drink was slamming! I've come to this place a second time now. The first time I was on a date with my bf and a homeless person came through the back ask for money. He got really upset when I took my purse. The waitress said he came often but could not lock the back entrance. She made no effort to take him out. The second time I was invited to a wedding. Worst experience. It was so small you are like sardine. I ask the waitress to do a father daughter song I requested so we can leave earlier... She requested no do to the fact a birthday party was being held at the restaurant side but it was ok to play "happy birthday twice" but a a wedding song wasn't fair because it was a birthday party "mean while the wedding side is reserve" the birthday side is first come first serve. If you don't mind being in a ghetto side of Brooklyn with homeless people coming in then this is the place for you. My husband brought me here this afternoon for my birthday and I got to see it was better than I thought. First off, we had passion fruit mojitos, very tasty. For appetizers we had : crab cakes, oysters "a la vinagreta" and mini shrimp mofonguitos. Everything was very tasty, the only thing is for the mofonguitos, we asked "a la ajillo" (garlic sauce", and instead we got thick yellow sauce. I was in Brooklyn for a night and needed something to eat late and came across Carro Cafe. The bouncer at the door was pleasant and when we entered there was a DJ playing. The music was incredibly loud. Like club loud. Which is perfect if you're looking to dance, not so much when grabbing a meal with a friend. The decor was modern and sleek. So far everything I've ordered has been delicious from their skirt steak with yuca fries to mini mofongo (which by the way is an appetizer but can be an entrée) no matter what you order you will not be disappointed. Now where you will be disappointed and this is why I gave this place 3 stars is the wait time!!! Be ready to wait over an hour for your food and just so you know appetizers come out with the main entree. Ok. Came here for the first time. We came by 7:50 - 7:55 pm. The waitress came immediately to take the order. We order 2 appetizers. They took 30 minutes to make them. The Crab Cakes and Yuca Coquetas were delish. But, we still waiting for our main courses which we ordered by 8:15 pm. It's 9 pm and there's no sign of food yet. So disappointed. No choice. Still waiting and they don't even come to the table to let us know how long they will take to finish the main courses. They need to improve the time they take to cook and try not to make the customers wait almost a hour. How many chefs are in the kitchen? Maybe 1. Also, when we reordered our drinks, we ordered just 1 because I still had beer in my bottle. They brought 2. It seems they don't care if a customer just orders 1 item they bring 2 to make sure. Lol. Ridiculous. I asked for my food. I told them I ve been waiting for 50 minutes for our main courses. They finally brought the Lamb Chops but didn't bring the Caesar Salad. Please. They take forever even to pick up the credit card. We paid and started a new tab, they are taking forever to bring 2 cups of sangria and 1 whisky on the rocks. Please do not go there for food, I'm sick. Their food is undercook. I went there sept 27.... it is now sept 30th and I think I'm gonna have to go to the hospital. I order cesar salad with chicken, and fried calamari rings. They took more that an hour to prepare these simple dishes yet the chicken was undercook and burned on the outside. It seems they don't clean the grill properly, or probably they cook the food over and over in the same grill without clean it. Ok my niece told me about this place and I like Spanish food. We got there wasn't sure about this place . When we sat down we still was unsure. But we stood we ordered drinks and appetizer and it was good. Then the waitress asked us how we were paying because their card machine was broken . At this point I was kinda stunned . Then I asked how else are we to pay because who really walks with cash . She then proceeded to tell me there was an ATM six blocks down. I told her I'm not walking six blocks that they should have a sign on the door or the waitress should have disclosed this before sitting us down. I still couldn't believe they kept insisting we go to the ATM stating it's not far. Even speaking to the manager finding out the machine was broken for two days but yet not one employee mentioned this until we had eaten and drank. My boyfriend at this point got pissed and said look let's get outta here . As we leaving one of the waitress said we'll take the $20 you have. I told my boyfriend to give it and now reflecting we shouldn't have given anything because they were wrong and couldn't see that . I'm sorry I strive on customer service and this place the waitresses have no customer service and little English how do you run establishment when little English is spoken regardless of the area. The food was really good. Our food took a little long to come out but they made it all better with giving a round of drinks on the house for the inconvenience. The drinks are great, the food is great. Staff does doesn't speak English well which most reviewers did write but hey, we were able to communicate. Late at night it becomes a bit club like so if you're looking for that type of scene this is the spot for you. My only issue is they play only spanish music. I am extremely disappointed in the way the staff and the manager manage a complain from a costumer. I can honestly say, I have never experienced such embarrassment as I did tonight. We were a party of six and when asked what we wanted to drink one of the guys said he wanted Hennessy and cranberry; nevertheless, the waitress neglected to ask the rest of the groups or the individual for that mater whether or not they wanted anything else or it was just a bottle of Hennessy. To my understanding as a regular customer if I as for Hennessy and I'm "assuming" is a bottle I will not bring one of the most expensive bottles of Hennessy to try to up sell. Instead I would ask the customer if they want a bottle of Hennessy and indeed which kind. No just bring whichever bottle I presume to want to sell. Of course we were asking for the special that cost $100.00 for bottles before 12:00 pm. When the check arrived the price was above the $100.00 expected and when asked the waitress her respond was " that's the price of Hennessy" "hennesy is not in the special". She nevertheless, without asking the manager reduced the total of the bill by $60.00 acknowledging her mistake without us having to ask. However $60.00 was not the amount that was supposed to requite. When asked the manager he acknowledged the issue yet did nothing about it. At last the owner very dismissively fixed the remaining amount and continue to dispute the reasons to why we the "customers" were at fault after the original staff's mistake. I only write this with the upmost indignation to say that not only will we never return to Carro Cafe but also to encourage people to check their bill and make sure that what they ordered is priced correctly. I am shocked to see that an owner was capable of agreeing with the customer yet blaming the customer at the same time for such incident. read more

The place is not all that bad, I used to go once in a while, but the last time I was there I had a terrible experience. I went with a cousin who was visiting from DR and some otherS friends, we order some appetizer and a few Moët as always. Then I ask for the check and it was about $700 dollars, I took out my debit card and at that point the waitress told me that their credit card machine was broken, I told her that I was not walking with that kind of cash, then she told me in hemlock and Fulton there is a chase bank about 15 min walk, They kept insisting we go to the ATM and I agree, the problem was that they didn't want my friends to go with me specially the one visiting me from DR I got pissed since they never told us ,before sitting us down we find out when I ask for the check . I ask to speak with the owner who knows who I am and he acted like it wasn't his business, the waitress the acted like we were the ones who didn't want to pay the bill and I told them they were wrong that they should have let us know upfront.
