DO NOT come here if you don't want CPS to be involved. I don't usually write reviews but I feel like this is important for other parents to know before thinking about coming here.
A couple months ago, I had brought my daughter here for a physical check up for her school, and since my daughter has mentioned about her inability to control her emotions, I have decided to get a second opinion from a medical professional about her mental health. Instead of further diagnostics, or any other suggestions (such as seek for therapy), he prescribed her antidepressants right away without any other questions. As a concerned parent, I find that quite unsettling since my daughter is only 12 and her brain is still developing. He's already suggesting that she should be dependent on drugs that can change her growing brain forever. In addition, he suggested that she should speak to a "behavior specialist" (who works under him). I disregard his suggestion on medication, but still allow my daughter to continue with a 20 minute session treatment with his behavior specialist, once a week. In the hope that, she can help my daughter identify her emotions while I do some research for a licensed therapist.
At this time, she had recommended a different facility where they offered counseling for teens since she does not have the degree to further treat my daughter, and I agreed to look into that. However, I was also looking at other therapy facilities that can provide a more confidential evidence based practice.
On the 4th visit, when we returned for another 20 minute session, she had asked if I gave the facility she recommended a call. I had told her no, and that I still need to do further research to ensure that my daughter is getting the right help she needs when it comes to shaping her brain and identifying her identity and emotions. Next, she demands that I need to sit there and call up the facility with her to ensure that my daughter goes there. At the time, I was shocked on how I was being treated, as a grown adult I shouldn't have to sit down with you and make an appointment with a place that I don't want service from. After that, I decided to not return for the next follow up, because I find that extremely unprofessional and highly unethical. Not only does she not have the degree to treat my daughter, I was being disrespected as an adult.
Fast forwarded to two weeks later... I received a call from CPS. (At this point I'm livid) because I knew exactly who reported. (Not because they were concerned for my daughter's well being, but out of spite). This shouldn't have even progressed this far. As a parent, I have the right to choose what is right for my child and choose a physician that I think is best for her. It shouldn't have even been about me refusing their service. (It should have been about finding the best solution to treat my daughter as a health care professional).
Clearly, I'm concern about my child's mental health, and IS seeking for help. Instead of getting help, I'm getting in trouble, with the laws. When the whole government is looking at me as an unfit parent. Not only is this extremely inappropriate, and unacceptable, but it has greatly affected my time off of work and my daughter's time from school to try to prove to the system that we are a functional family and my child is not being neglected or harm in any way. (Note that she is a high honors student in a private school, who is also active in sport. And I'm in the medical field). Not the mentioned how betrayed my daughter felt when she found out why CPS is involved, After I encouraged her to trust and believe that she can share her feelings, and the doctor is here to help. It's obvious that this horrific experience will create PTSD for her. It will be that much harder for her to open up for the next person that's trying to help, due to the fear of running into another incident like this. I'm very disappointed in this group of unprofessional health care providers. They should really be ashame of themselves for turning this experience into a personal attack. read more
