We first met Dr. McConnell when CMG hosted a free baby prep class in their office. On the drive home, my husband I were convinced she needed to be out pediatrician!! During our 5 day stay at the hospital, Dr. McConnell came to see us everyday & we knew had made the right decision. We have always lived quite a distance from their office but happily make the drive just for her. She's gone above & beyond any expectation we've ever had for her & continues to surprise us with the generosity of her time. Once, we were out of town & our daughter was horribly sick. We ended up taking her to an urgent care & she consulted with the doctor there on treatment. My little one ended up having meningitis!! This is just one of dozens of experiences where she has amazed us... Plain & simple - I would not trust anyone to her life the way I trust Dr. McConnell!!! read more

I had the exact same experience as another reviewer here. Trying to transfer my child's medical records has been an absolute nightmare. I started the process two weeks ago and was told they had sent the records request to my son's current pediatrician. I later found out that my pediatrician never received anything. To make matters worse, they couldn't get my son in for an appointment until the end of the month. The entire experience has been frustrating and disorganized. We love Dr.Dodson and her amazing staff. Everyone is always so nice and friendly and on top of everything. Every time I either call or portal message, I always get a return phone call within an hour or so. Dr.Dodson is AMAZING! My girls love her! Dr. Bell had HUGE shoes to fill when she inherited the practice established by the legendary Dr. Winston Ho when he moved to Houston. After him, we thought, nobody will ever, ever, live up to our expectations. And, sure enough, for about a year there, with a revolving and inconsistent schedule of doctors, things did not look good for us sticking around. I was certainly taking names from my friends, and starting to wrap my mind around looking for a new pediatrician. Then, a couple of years ago, Dr. Anna Bell took over the practice. I knew instantly that I liked her. And, then, almost as quickly, I became convinced that she was the medical equal of the lamented Dr. Ho. CMG is great! I am a first-time parent of a now one year daughter. I chose CMG based on the recommendation of my neighbor and fellow mom, who also happens to be a OB/maternity nurse. Dr. Bell (and everyone on staff) has been kind, patient and thorough throughout our first year of regular checkups. She always takes the time to answer questions, discuss options and ensure we are completely comfortable with what is going on. She is keenly observant and I greatly appreciate her timely recommendations. The nurses and staff are gracious about answering in-between appointment questions (even the stupid ones) and their website offers some great basic information for those of us just starting out. Annette always greets us with a smile and even asks about our family when we come in for appointments. The waiting room and offices are nicely appointed and have plenty of space. The location is convenient and parking is close to the door, so its easy to zip in and out, if needed. Overall, my family is very happy with CMG and I am giving them 5 Yelp stars! read more

I love, love, love the childrens medical group. When I was pregnant with my son about 2 months before my due date my doctor kept asking me if I had a pediatrician picked out yet. I was on the hunt for one of the best Pediatricians in Austin, I met a few whom I did not like their attitude or the reviews about their office or the staff. Then one day out of the blue I found the CMG I met with Dr. Bell and fell on love with her she is the sweetest thing ever and truly had a genuine personality and loves her job. Then came the big day, right after my c section was complete in came Dr. Bell to do my sons first check up. I loved the fact that she came in to check on him so quickly and asked how i was doing. The same happened when my daughter was born, and we are still very pleased with Dr. Bell and Dr. M. The first time we heard there was a new doctor in the office we were anxious to see who else was on board. Dr. M is super sweet as well she fits in perfectly at the office. They recently changed locations Which at first i didn't like however we learned to just go around the non busy times of the day to avoid not finding any parking. Other than that I just love Dr. Bell and Dr. M the nurses are also super sweet and are talkative not just rude and are in and out. They actually interact with the kiddos make them comfortable to the best of their ability. The front desk staff are great as well especially TK he is sweet and very professional. When it comes to getting your child in for a sick visit They are just great about getting the child in asap. Which I love what concerned parent wouldent love that. Dr. Anna Bell came highly recommended but our experience has been horrible... She treats patients in a cookie cutter fashion---labels everything a virus rather than digging deeper to really assess the patient and does not listen to a parent that repeatedly tells her that something is not right with their sick child. She missed a serious case of pneumonia in our child. I had called daily telling her over and over that my child (who had a fever of 103.8) had something more than a virus. Our child had been diagnosed with pneumonia last year by a different pediatrician---so there was a history of this illness. She told us to try to control the fever and wait through the weekend to see how things were going and then she may run some tests. Thankfully, I didn't listen to her. We ended up spending 2 days at Dell Children's Hospital. Our child also had an ear infection which Children's Medical Group had also failed to diagnose. I would not recommend this practice. read more

We chose Dr. Bell to be our sons pediatrician based on recommendations from my OB. We were unable to schedule an appt for a 'meet and greet' prior to his arrival and I regret it now. I understand that many people really like her as their pediatrician, but she just wasn't a fit for us. May I also preface that I'm a nurse with 16 years of healthcare experience and perhaps I'm a bit pickier than the rest. Regardless, I thought I'd share, in case others feel their approach to a doctor-patient relationship is similar to ours. I found Dr. Bell to have a somewhat aloof bedside manner. She's courteous, but answers questions in 1-2 word responses, never expanding upon the discussion. Naturally as new parents, we want any information that can help us navigate the new-parent terrain. This 'short-answer approach' can make people feel as though their question is unvalidated, which should never be the case. I understand that doctors offices are busy and they don't have all the time in the world. If anyone understands this, I certainly do! During our time in the hospital, we interacted with several pediatricians who took the time to review healthcare/developmental information about our son, which always feels reassuring. Dr. Bell never engaged in any such conversations during our 3 visits. My husband made a comment after he accompanied us to one of our appts and stated "she's nice, but just doesn't seem that invested". His comment confirmed what I'd been feeling about Dr. Bell as well. Right then and there, I made the decision to find another pediatrician. I want to feel that I have relationship with my sons Doctor, and it's not just a matter of checking off the boxes at each visit. Maybe others have had a different experience with her, but it was best for us to find another pediatrician. Hope this helps. read more

I used to recommend this place to everyone simply based on the fact that they accepted medicaid and treated my daughter well, which is not easy to find. I never felt like people were looking down on us, and that the doctor at least made an effort to get to know my child. But suddenly they stopped accepting medicaid and I didn't even get a warning. I found out by calling them to speak to a doctor when my daughter was sick, instead of being able to give me advice, they simply said they couldn't help because she is no longer a patient of theirs. Dr. Tammy S. McConnell is an asset to CMG. We have 9 year old boy/girl twins who started seeing her back in 2011. They were originally supposed to see Dr. Bell, but as fate would have it.. every time my kids were sick Dr. McConnell was in. At the time, my kids had CHIP. The staff and their doctor never looked at us differently or treated us with anything but respect. I can not say the same for Dr. Bell. Her attitude towards myself and my kids was always less than genuine when she'd see us. But then again, comparing Bell and McConnell is like apples and oranges. As soon as we went on to BCBS, Bell's attitude did change. She warmed up towards us. See what that tells you... Doctor McConnell never changed. She's a true angel. An amazing woman. God bless her, she's helped us tremendously. We are loyal patients and we plan on having her be the kids ped until they're well into their teen years! If you're looking for a pediatrician, try to see Doctor McConnell. Doctor Bell isn't half bad either! =) read more

CMG is wonderful! I too was hunting for a pediatrician before the birth of our first child. I was less than thrilled with other options. Many doctors refused to meet with me before the birth, or other weren't accepting new patients, etc. Dr. McConnell and Dr. Bell hosted a session just for soon-to-be parents at their office and I immediately knew that this was the place. Dr. Bell visited us in the hospital after my son was born and we have since seen both doctors for check ups/sick visits. The office is impeccably clean and staff is super friendly. Dr McConnell is awesome! She is extremely attentive and is very easy to communicate with, great attitude, and good sense of humor. Our daughter gets really clingy and scared when we see the nurses (scared of shots, I'm sure), but when Dr McConnell walks in, she calms down. It's amazing. Dr McConnell seems to have a way of making her comfortable. We've had a few after hours calls for her and her team and they've been very helpful and Dr McConnell has even called to check back in on us to make sure a virus was clearing up, without us initiating. We absolutely love Children's Medical Group! I've been taking my two kids here since my oldest was born, over 4 years ago! Dr. McConnell is amazing with my little ones and very easy to talk to, she never dismisses my concerns, even if I'm overreacting. We've seen all the other doctors too and they have the same great bedside manner - you can tell they really care about their patients here. The office staff is great, they always answer the phone and get us in quickly when we are sick. And I really can't say enough about how awesome the nurses are, friendly and gentle with my kids, my little ones feel comfortable and at ease. I love CMG! Everyone (office staff, nurses and doctors) is amazing and really seems to have the best interest of your child in mind. I've seen both Dr. Bell and Dr. McConnell and I love both of them. Shortly after my son was born, we had some problems with breastfeeding and Dr. McConnell took the time to help us (and this was on a Saturday.). She's very likely the reason that we are still breastfeeding at this point. The only downside to them for me is the location. I'm in the burb's and they are quite a drive for us- But I'll happily make the drive for this level of service. I can't say enough positive things about this office. They're awesome! read more

I moved to Austin when my son was 1 year old and was sad to leave our pediatrician behind. We all quickly got over that, once we met with Dr. Bell. She has a wonderful way of putting my husband, son and I at ease even when the visit includes shots. Everyone working at CMG is very friendly and so patient, from the front desk and nurses to the billing/office personnel. Dr. McConnell is the other pediatrician in CMG ,and on sick visits with her we have had the same quality care and caring nature as Dr. Bell. I have called about a sick visit close to 5pm and was able to bring my son in that day. There is plenty of room in the waiting room for a busy 2 year old to play before visits, and we never have to wait long before the appointment, unfortunately for my son. Whenever I have called with a question or concern day or night, Dr. Bell quickly responded, answering all my concerns. She really cares and you can tell. I have never felt rushed during an appointment. I am able to ask all questions, even the "dumb" ones without feeling embarrassed or like Dr. Bell is eager to move on to the next appointment. She was also very supportive and understanding. When my son was told he needed PE tubes, my husband and I were concerned about the procedure. Dr. Bell did not push us into any decisions and offered assistance when we asked about alternatives to surgery. I highly recommend entrusting your family's health to Dr. Bell and CMG. read more

I used to go to this place for over a year with our now 3.5 year old daughter. Dr. McConnell got recommended to me by a friend. I really like her but I have also seen Dr.Bell when no other appointment was available. Two things that really bothered me, and made me change doctors: -I called in in January to get a flu shot for my daughter. They said the next available appointment (for just a flu shot!!) would be in 7 days. I could not understand that but ok. Then 1 day before my appointment they called me and told me they were out of flu shots! I couldn't believe that. I thought they would save a shot for my daughter since I made the appointment. They told me to come back in February. -a few days ago my daughter got very sick. She had to deal with strep throat over spring break, took antibiotics for 10 days, but only 4 days later she got a very high fever (104.7) and nothing really seemed to help. We even called in late Sunday evening and talked to the docotr on call. He told us to keep giving her fever reducing medication and go to the doctor as soon as possible Monday morning. We called as soon as they openend and the earliest appointment for my sick daughter was at 2:15! I could not believe that!!! Obviously nobody could take a look at her. I told them that maybe they could squeeze her in since we already were onto our second day with a very high fever but no chance! I told them I would switch doctors and they said, they are sorry I feel that way! What does that even mean?!?! I called a new docter and they were able to see my daughter at 10:30 that day. And I am glad they did, because she had pneumonia and her fever spiked up that afternoon to 104.9!!!!! The new docter even saw her again the next day early in the morning to make sure she is ok. I was very pleased with that service! She is way better now. But I still can't believe how rude CMG was! I will not recommend them. And I have the philosophy that you can see how good a pediatrician really is in a situation like that. Healthy kids can wait for 10 more minutes while my daughter with almost 105F gets help. That office lady makes you feel like you can't afford their services and is very difficult. I'm getting tired of her crap and will go somewhere else if she doesn't stop. We haven't been with this practice in over a year as we moved out of state but I wanted to write a review because we have been looking in our current city for the past year for the same quality of care we received at CMG and just cannot find it! Dr. McConnell was our primary pediatrician but we saw all three of the doctors in this practice at one time or another. I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of love and care that this practice - every single doctor and nurse - pours out to their patients. Our son, Noah, was a sick newborn/infant and we were in the CMG office often. As first time parents, were comforted countless times by the team of doctors and the entire staff when we would arrive and throughout our stay. Dr. McConnell even gave us her personal number to contact her directly anytime if we were having an issue with Noah's breathing. I have never known ANY doctor to do that! Dr. Bell came to our house one time shortly after Noah was born because their office couldn't get in touch with us and there was something very wrong with his levels that needed to be checked out immediately. Incredible! I simply cannot stress enough how much we LOVE Children's Medical Group - every nurse and every doctor. We have so many fond memories of time spent while under their care. I am currently pregnant for the second time with twins and our son Noah is now 3. I am desperately seeking a practice where we live now that will provide us with the same level of care. As a first time parent with so many unknowns, Dr.Bell and her staff have been extremely patient, supportive, thorough, kind and professional with both my husband and myself. They are prompt to answer the phone, address any of your questions and quickly schedule appointments (SAME DAY on many occassions). From day one, we have been so impressed. Dr.Bell visited our son the day he was born and continued to check in on him regularly until he was released from the hospital.
