Excellent pediatrics facility. Our family has been well taken care of here for 3 years and we feel that we're in the hands of some of Austin's best. Lovely office staff as well, always so patient and nice! read more

We recently left this practice and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. First, the subscription fee is difficult to justify when you rarely see the actual doctor. Paying an ongoing fee for limited access did not feel reasonable or transparent. Second, the front desk staff was consistently condescending and dismissive. Communication felt frustrating instead of supportive, which is especially disappointing when dealing with your children's healthcare. Lastly, when we requested our children's medical records, we were initially told it would take 4-6 weeks, despite the legal requirement being 2 weeks. After pushing back, we were then told the records would be sent "tomorrow" -- which happened to be day 14, the last day allowed. This felt unnecessarily difficult and unprofessional. Overall, we did not feel valued as patients and the administrative experience overshadowed the care. We ultimately decided to transfer to another provider and hope this feedback helps others make an informed decision. read more

This pediatrician and her office are a dream team! They've gotten us in for last minute sickness. They sent detailed emails explaining or reiterating. Doctor Wheelock and her NP take the time to explain different approaches to illness. But make it clear when medical intervention is necessary. They are supportive in every decision we've made. I'm now taking my third baby to Barton Creek Pediatrics and feel so grateful to have Dr Wheelock and her team to help make medical decisions for my kiddos. read more

On time, clean, cares about baby, scheduling is easy. They are a super popular so we haven't met w/ Dr. Wheelock yet but I knew that would be the case with a pretty healthy baby. We've only met with nurse practitioners but they've all been great! Highly recommend! read more

This place is totally oversubscribed, way too many patients. Plan to always see a nurse because its a 6 month wait to see the doctor. If you are expecting a same day sick visit they will alway tell you to visit the urgent care instead. Expect a good wait even for scheduled appointments. My son with an earn infection was told the first available appointment was in over a week. Its crazy to me that a practice can take on so many patients that they can't properly care for. read more

I love this practice. Premier service. Absolutely love Doctor Wheelock. She is so caring. Vaccine Were not pushed on my daughter, and they respected the parents option to delay vaccination. I love them so much, that I drive about 30 min to see them. read more

Efficient staff, kind and intelligent pediatrician. We're new to Austin (and the US) and they made our paperwork transfer and appointment making painless. read more

We love Dr. Wheelock!!! I did a lot of searching around for a doctor who was homeopathic in their thinking and was flexible with the vaccination schedule. The way she explains things is great. She takes the time to make sure you understand and answers questions thoroughly. She is also amazing with my VERY hesitant/reserved little boy. He hates people poking and prodding, but somehow she is able to do the check up without much fuss from him. She's the only doctor there, so if you want a group she might not be your best choice. In response to another reviewer that says she never saw the doctor, that hasn't been my experience. In fact, we have only seen Dr. Wheelock for our well checks and anytime I make my appointment I am always able to get it with the doctor. Maybe it's different when you're bringing a child in sick???? We've only had to go for well checks (knock on wood)! Anyways, she is awesome and we are so happy we found her! read more

The doctor herself is very knowledgeable but the office is horribly managed. We have been with them for many years since my kid was five. But now we have no choice but to change doctors. The phone line can never get through and you are not allowed to leave messages because they say in the phone that they don't check message. So the only way to get to them is to go to their office to talk to them. So impossible to make appointment. Once my kid was sick, we called seven times and no connection on a work day. We ended up going to ER and waited for 4 hours there. Having a doctor like this is worse than not having a doctor. We complained about this a year ago and the doctor said she will add a line or something. But a year already and everything is the same. I tried to get a copy for my kid immunization record. Again, no way to get through. I went to their office, waited for 15 minutes to get a person to talk to and they charge me $5 for copying one page of the immunization record. read more

Cannot speak more highly of dr Wheelock and her bedside manor. She has such a calming demeanor with kiddos, we LOVE her!!!! We have been going since day 1 when we brought our 3 month preemie home from the nicu. The offices are clean, they get you in quickly and we know we are in great hands. Wish I could give her more than 5 stars!!! read more

Dr. Wheelock was MY pediatrician when I was a teenager! Now she is my sons. She is sweet, smart, genuine, and truly cares.

We were searching for a new pediatrician after our longstanding health insurance plan dropped us after 20 years due to the new Obamacare laws made our plan noncompliant. Anyway, with our new PPO, we decided to give Dr Wheelock a try when my son developed a fever and cough. He came home sick from school and I called the doctor's office from 3:30 til 4:45 trying to get through. They never answered. When we did finally get in to see Dr Wheelock, the RN listened to my son's chest and heard something worrisome. When the nurse practitioner came in, she listened and heard nothing and told us the bad cough was nothing to worry about. She declared it to be nothing but a virus and told us to take him home. A few days later, my son was much worse. I phoned the office 19 times before anyone answered the phone. That is 19 separate calls. Each call rings five times then puts you through to a recorded message that directs you to call back, as they are too busy to answer the phone. After getting through on the 19th call, we made an appointment and took our son to see the doctor. Same story, second verse. No doctor anywhere in sight even though the nurse is now pretty sure my son has pneumonia and fluid on both ears. Then the nurse practitioner tells us there is no need for a chest x-ray! Just a prescription and they send us home. At this point I am beginning to wonder if Dr Wheelock really works here. We decided to make a call to a family doctor, who came highly recommended, but whose practice is 34 miles from our home. OMG, what a difference!!! You call Dr Paul Berg at Scott and White's clinic in Georgetown and a live human actually answers the phone every time you call, even after hours. If you make an appointment with this doctor, you actually see the doctor. He ran us immediately back for a chest X-ray, brought us the film in less than 5 minutes and spent at least fifteen minutes explaining the illness, treatment, limitations and what to expect. They made a follow up appointment to make sure my son's lungs are clearing. We needed to talk to a nurse after hours when we had a question and within 10 minutes of leaving my name with the after hours service, we got a call back and had our question answered. What a difference!!! We will be making the drive from now on! I am sure Dr. Wheelock may be a fine pedestrian, but I would not know since her practice forces you to see a nurse practitioner and you never actually lay eyes on the doctor. read more

Both of my daughters (4 and 2) see Dr. Wheelock as does my niece and several friends! We were looking for someone who had an open-mind as far as wholistic treatments but with a firm footing in science. Dr. Wheelock has been perfect! She collaborates with us when it comes to treatment planning and always considers the most "natural" approach first. Plus, she is compassionate, great with the kiddos, and a very effective communicator. I'm a pretty tough judge when it comes to providers, and we've been really pleased here. I will say that it's a busy practice and sick visits are almost always with one of the NP's, but we've had positive experiences there too. The office is nice and clean, and there are separate areas in the waiting room for sick visits and well checks - overall a great space! read more

As a single mother with a young child, I am everlastingly grateful to the entire staff of Barton Creek Pediatrics. They have helped me by phone when I was as far away as NYC or even as close as South Austin, without gripes, and most professionally. When my son goes to the office for an exam he doesn't want to leave. The toys and room decor are almost as inviting as the nurse staff who he warms up to instantly. Even shots are nearly OK in his opinion. read more

We have been going to Dr. Wheelock for over 3 years now and my girls love her. For a little while due to some insurance changes we had to see another doctor. She was good and we like her, but as soon as the option came to switch insurances and go back to Dr. Wheelock we did. Her gentle manner is super important, especially with my older daughter who is more sensitive. For me, the fact that the nurses are comfortable with me nursing while my daughters got vaccines was also key. They are so gentle with my kids. Dr. Wheelock was supportive of our choice to have our births with midwives and very comfortable with taking over their care after 6 weeks when they had their last check-up with the midwives. Additionally, Dr. Wheelock has taken time to talk through any health or developmental concerns I have had. I have never felt rushed during an appointment and have always felt listened to. She and her staff have been very thorough. Our interactions with the nurse practitioners have also been good. If there is anytime that we specifically request an appointment for a check-up with Dr. Wheelock, however, we have always been able to get that. There are certain days and times where she is not in the office because she is a parent herself, but it has never been an issue for us. read more

The absolute best pediatrician I have come in contact with in Austin. I have a wide range of personalities in my children and each one loves her and are happy to see her. My youngest is the one that has been in and out of the office the most due to health issues and while we were in the hospital I would get phone calls checking on me and her both!! I love all the staff and I am almost jealous that I can't have them for my own health needs. read more

When my daughter was born 6 weeks premature, finding the right pediatrician was a much more important decision since her health was so fragile. With our release date from the NICU very unpredictable, their office worked to get us in quickly after her release. Dr. Wheelock spent ample time examining our daughter and reviewing her medical information to make sure nothing went overlooked. I've never found an MD whose whole approach to medical care aligned so closely with my own. She's a great balance between traditional medicine and alternative, natural care. As a parent, I have the freedom to make decisions about vaccinations and she always has great suggestions for natural remedies such as adding coconut oil to bottles instead of high calorie formula to help my preemie get extra calories in a more natural way. We also had suspicions that my seven year old son had celiac disease. When we asked about testing, they asked great questions about his health in order to dig a little deeper and went forward with the testing just to be on the safe side. After his blood work came back positive, they pointed us to a great pediatric GI doctor that confirmed the diagnosis. Now with two happy healthy kids, I owe a lot of that to Dr. Wheelock and her team. :D read more

I moved to Austin recently and i picked this office for my kids pediatric visit. and guess what after about a year and many visit ,still i haven't met the doctor, there many nurse that every time visit my kids and i really don't like it every time i ask the front office for an appointment with the doctor they say there will be a 6 months waiting time !!! i pay to my insurance and i pay the copay to be visited by a doctor not a nurse ! i wii never go back to this place again . read more

I can't say enough great things about Dr. Wheelock. She is all I could want in a pediatrician. Her recommendations are honest, practical, in line with my parenting approaches, and spot on with what my daughter needs. She and her entire team advocated for us when my daughter had to had special tests done and we didn't receive proper attention from the specialty practice. Dr. Wheelock and her NPs were right beside us ready to advocate for our needs and ensured we received the top care. You would have thought they were fighting for their own child the way they stepped up to care for mine. read more

Dr. Wheelock is the best pediatrician we've had. We've only had two appointments with her, but it's impressive how much ground she can cover in a relatively short period of time. Besides the fact that she's truly a great communicator with both parent and child, she's excellent at diagnosing. She can synthesize all of the information you give her and figure stuff out in a way I've never seen. Very effective and efficient. Definitely a gifted pediatrician in my opinion, and we've been to several. read more

I've been waiting until I had enough time to sing the proper praises for this AMAZING practice. Dr Wheelock and staff are some of the kindest, caring and most wonderful group of people on Earth. When I had to change insurance this year, I literally called three times to make SURE that the new policy I was considering was accepted or I would have chosen different insurance. She does have many nurse practitioners on staff but the pro of this is that you can usually get in if needed on very short notice (no waiting 2 days when I'm worried and my daughter needs to be seen!). And they are all extremely knowledgeable, gentle, experienced and well trained. I can tell they really care about my baby and that means a lot. I trust everyone there and don't even have a preference on who sees us, and I'm generally extremely picky, especially when it comes to my daughter. Dr Wheelocks nurse, Leslie, is also great and promptly returns my call me anytime I have a concern (which is often since I'm a first time mom & worry wart ;). Also, I think it's important to mention that anytime I've needed to speak with Dr. Wheelock about matters I felt the nurse couldn't answer (or I called after hours), she has always taken the time and gone above and beyond to throughly answer any questions and ease my mind. Even one time nearing midnight when she was paged, and I'm sure exhausted. Also, when we did have an appointment with her, she really took her time and was extremely thorough and present. Never once did I feel like she was rushing or thinking about other things, which I greatly appreciated. Thank you so much to this fantastic place! I hope to keep my daughter here until she outgrows the pediatrician. read more

First of all you should ignore that 1 star review. I've been going to Dr. Wheelock for almost 2 years and we saw her within the first few weeks of appointments. When we did see her she apologized profusely for not being able to see us yet. I get same day visits basically any time I need them and they even make home visits now, which is awesome! I have only one complaint about the office and it's that they don't have a great phone system, they don't have a hold option and so it can be really difficult to get through on a call. That's a little annoying, but as you can see, I still give Barton Creek Pediatrics 5 stars because they really are that good. I would be willing to deal with any amount of logistical hurdles in order to go to Dr. Wheelock, even if I had to physically go to her office rather than call. She is incredible. And the nurses are great. The last time my son got shots, he didn't even cry (CRAZY!) because the nurses are that good. When we were in a car accident, their office called us immediately to make sure we were ok and schedule a follow up visit. They have been extremely attentive with every specialist need, and have been proactive in dealing with referrals or paperwork matters. She has my sons medical history memorized (or at the very least keeps a thorough chart and reads it before every visit), and I can always trust her to be thorough in every check up. She always makes me feel comfortable asking questions even when I feel like a hypochondriac. She is really good at making every parent feel comfortable as a parent. She is a true advocate for the health and safety of children. Another plus, her office is easy to get to, you don't have to pay for parking, and there are always spaces available. Also they are meticulous about keeping their toys disinfected. I can't say enough good things about this office. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wheelock and Cheryl! We had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Wheelock for a well check last year and she took over an hour with our family. She never made us feel rushed and did a wonderful job of making us feel like we mattered and we're not just a number. Cheryl is WONDERFUL! We have seen her twice now and could not be happier. I usually prefer to see the Dr over the NP but in this circumstance my children request her. She gets down on the the level of m children and explains things to them and makes them feel safe. Both times we saw Cheryl she was with us for over an hour. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL experiences here! read more

LOVE LOVE this practice. My only regret is not switching here sooner, but we did when my daughter was 6 months old. We had started off at Pediatric Associates of Austin but were really disappointed in the care we got there. My daughter has had stomach issues and instead of just dismissing them as "normal" Dr Wheelock and the NPs have been great and thinking outside the box as to what could be causing her problems and giving me really great ideas on ways to help her. We have been going there three months now and made several visits already. Even if she is a farther drive, i highly recommend. Also, we did not vaccinate and this office is respectful of our decision, rather than than as I previously experienced. Also, they are prompt no long wait times in any of our visits. read more
