Carolina blue is one of our favorite local restaurants. We've been going there for almost 4 years. The menu doesn't change but there are lots of good choices. Try the chili for an appetizer. The shrimp spring rolls are also delicious. The shrimp and chicken skewers are a good choice as well as any of the fresh fish selections. The new york strip steak is flavorful and delicious. The staff is knowledgeable about the beers on tap and will offer suggestions for your dinner. We're very rarely disappointed with our meal there! read more

Well , I had some time to kill before a birthday party. I been wanting to try this place since it changed over to Carolina Blue recently. Not what I expected, upscale dining, mediocre (& expensive) food. The decor almost chased me out right away, but not wanting to come across as rude, I sat at the bar. I ordered my first four dollar beer, then I decided to order some food (not much though since I had a party later), ended up ordering a half rack ($12) of ribs. No sides came with it and it was anything but fall off the bone. Everything about this place will rub the barbeque purist the wrong way. If you're a six-figure well to-do and don't want to sit with us "common folk" this place is all you. Otherwise, you've been warned. read more

I haven't been here since it was called "The Holly Inn," but it's THE place for PHS reunions, so we had dinner here when we came to town for a reunion. Our waiter was very young, very inexperienced, and very unskilled. Drinks were OK, but my wife's gin martini lacked the lemon twist. When we called it to our server's attention, he came back with it in his bare hands and tried to drop it in my wife's glass! My Dirty Martini tasted good, but the olives looked very old. Onion rings were tasty, but some were cold in the center. My St. Louis Style Ribs were awful. They were old tasting: tough, tasteless, and dry. The coleslaw was awful: bland, creamy, and chewy, not crisp. My wife's scallops were OK, but nothing special. No one in our party of four was happy with their meals, so we didn't order desserts or coffee. We did, however, meet a few classmates there. Also, the bathrooms were clean. read more

I really liked this place! In the middle of nowhere, it is unexpectedly classy and awesome! Tons of beers, cool cocktails. Ambiance is perfect. Cozy with great lighting. Menu had great selection as I'm vegan. Would recommend. read more

I go there weekly for the Quizzo event, but one recent Tuesday night had me baffled when I ordered a hamburger and the server apologized and said "we're out of hamburgers." When you go to a pub/taproom, you would not expect one of the staples of the menu to be out of stock. I would understand them being out if I was ordering one of their more obscure/less popular menu items. Food has been fine, but we were there as a group this past Sunday afternoon and the service was very bad...it took nearly 30 minutes to get our round of drinks served. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so I cannot figure out why the service was so poor. read more

What a great place to go. Food is always made fresh and taste delicious. From fresh meaty crab cakes to fish prepared for you at the temp that you like it. My wife is vegetarian and they were able to accommodate her requests. Chose from a whole arsenal of beers. I have dined there, as well as enjoyed the bar area. Staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. Place is very clean, comfortable, and relaxing without feeling rushed. I have never had anymore then a 5 min wait for a table. Prices are appropriate, dont expect diner pricing. This is all fresh food, down to the potato chips. They just do it right... There is also an outside deck. read more

Place is awesome and love bands play from time to time. I have only had drinks from this place especially the fall specials and they were a hit! I can't speak for the food I assume it's banging too. read more

Another south jersey dud! Waiter "try the burger I really recommend it it is my favorite and we are up for the best burger in the tri state area" taste less and I did not know a medium looked like the sole of my shoe. In a nut shell Carolina blue was like getting kicked in the nads.. read more

Awful! Absolute worst experience I can imagine two hours for appetizers awful service

I absolutely love the Smoke House Burger- one of the best burgers I've ever had, and definitely the best in the area.

We were in on Saturday 5/19/18. Probably our 4th time and certainly our last. Last time we were here we had poor service and a drawn out mediocre experience. We decided to give it one more try. We had a 5:30 reservation for a party of 4. Arrived at 5:25 and were not seated until 5:45 with easily 6-7 open 4 top tables in the dinning room. We were then seated at an odd table where two of seats were facing a wall and the other two seats were out on the ends. We had two kids with us and asked to for a different table, hostess told us no. I said there were 6 empty table and could we please have a different seat. She again says no and that they other table were "reserved". After a few more minutes of aggravation from her she finally agrees "to go check" , comes back and moves us. We sat at the table for a good 10-15 mins before we see a serves it is now well after 6. We quickly order since we have two kids with us and we BEG that the appetizers and kids dinners come out as soon as possible so that the kids can start eating. 6:30, we have asked for bread twice, still no appetizers. 6:50 she tells us it will be out soon... and brings Everything at once. Two appetizers, kids dinners and our dinner. We had to send our dinner back. At this point the kids are starving, we can't eat two appetizers and an entree all at the same time. Serves says that it was all her fault even though we asked, she "put it in wrong" and she assured us about 5 times her manager would be over to make it right. No surprise with this place, but no sight of the manager once. Terrible service all around, from the aggravation from the hostess, to the server, to the slow service. To the fact that I had nachos for dinner because by the time we were done we had to leave before we even could eat the entree we ordered. I am not saying accommodations need to be made for families with children when dinning out, but I am saying that when multiple employees mess up, some sort of accommodation should be made for the paying customer. I Just get the over all sense that no one cares about the customer at this establishment and that in this case the serves and hosts do whatever they want with no back up from management. Not only will we not be back, but I will be sure to tell everyone I know to avoid this place at all costs and to bring their business to an establishment that treats the customer with a little respect. This is just a quick overall of our time there on Saturday night. I don't want to pay for a meal out and be annoyed from start to finish. read more

We would never go back. Upon arriving today at 12:40pm the hostess was miserable and unwelcoming. Chose to sit us in a dark room... alone. MeanWhile there was plenty of seating around the bar and a much livelier crowd. But the main complaint was that she had zero personality... we managed to sit were we wanted but it took forever for a server .. I personally ordered our drinks at the bar. Our waiter did show up to table to serve but was slow to approach. He wasn't bad once he got going . The Bloody Mary was tasteless and the pulled pork sandwich was lacking . Not impressed and flies/bugs all over our window seat. Note some of the servers should not be wearing shorts. read more

Very disappointing meal last week. I have enjoyed meals in the past. I ordered the signature Moscow mule. It tasted like a cup of sour mix. No ginger beer or fresh lime. I make them and home and have had them before at Carolina blue so I know what they should taste like. It was nasty. I was at a birthday celebration so I didn't want to complain and dampen the evening. Then, I order the bistro fillet salad. It had two of the tiniest pieces of blue cheese I have ever seen. Almost no dressing and the fillet was very tough. I don't think it was fillet. It looked more like London broil to me. Very disappointing. read more

Very nice place. Food was excellent. Outside setting was awesome. Mac and Cheese fell short but the muscles were very good. We'll be back!

Great food, great drink selection. Pork flatbread is yummy and Bistro Filet salad is my usual go-to. Service is polite and friendly and outside space is great in the summer! read more

Caught them on a night when they were really slammed by overflow from Pitman Food Truck Festival. Service was predictably slow. Ribs were great. Burger was great. Will try them again on another night. read more

Went there last night to eat and have a few beers before seeing a comedy show in Pitman. The place had a really nice interior and seemed very clean and contemporary. The beer list was pretty good and the bartenders were decent. We ordered a bunch of different options to sample and they ranged from very good to HORRIFICALLY DISGUSTING. First the good. The cheeseburger sliders were awesome, though you only get three of them. The Old Bay fries with cheese sauce were very good as well (they give you a huge bowl of cheese to dip the fries). The buffalo chicken strips were just OK and the blue cheese sauce seemed watered down. Being a BBQ spot I was really really looking forward to the smoked wings. WOW! I have never EVER ordered food in any establishment that was as bad as these wings. Honestly, it's the worst tasting thing I have ever eaten ANYWHERE!! I couldn't quite place the taste of them until reading another review here on yelp. Yep.... lighter fluid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear there had to be something wrong with them. It seemed like they had been dowsed in a fake smoke like fluid. Disgusting. After we finished up we hung out at the bar for a bit and I actually took note of people's faces as they bit into their wing orders. Hilarious! Though I will probably never be in Pitman, NJ again, if I happen to ever make it back I would definitely go here again. I just won't go anywhere near the wings. read more

First review on Yelp. Usually don't make one even though I should. But this place got under my skin so bad that I felt that inclined to do so. And now that I am, I realize that I hate this place so much that I can't even put it into words. I had worked in the service industry for 16 years which makes me empathetic to every atmosphere, but this place deserves none. One star only because it wouldn't let me review without one. First and last time here...let my experience save you from yours. read more

I went here for lunch with a friend. We ordered the scallop appetizer and the veggie wrap. The food was really good. The service was horrendous. The waitress was very nice but she had a party in the other room. We never saw her. After waiting forever for the food, we waited even longer to get the check. When someone finally arrived back to our table it wasn't even our waitress. Because the food was good, I would give it another try. Hopefully the poor service was a one off. read more

Unfortunately I need to take a break from this spot. I really enjoy the atmosphere here and the bartenders are great (Jimmy, Cynthia, and others). Plus they have good wines available by the glass and their beer selection is excellent. The problem is their kitchen. The food is so inconsistent. Yesterday I started with the wings, which were so undercooked. I ate 2 and left the rest. Then I tried the Bistro filet sandwich. This is generally very good and I have had it many times before. The meat was really undercooked (and I like my steaks medium rare), so you know it was really bad. And the meat was cold. They of course offer to take the items off the bill etc. But that is not the point. I just want food to be cooked and served warm. I keep hoping the kitchen will improve, but I don't think they feel they have a problem. read more

We had samplers they were good. But a few drinks & 2 meals the bill was 80$. Pricy but it was a decent meal. I had a gnocchi appetizer it was a tad overdone/chewy. We would go back again. read more

After a miscommunication was made and I didn't receive an item in my pickup order..... They could tell I was leaving upset and refusing to wait for the item so as I get to my car in the parking lot, the hostess runs out with the item for free last second. I really appreciated their hustle in that situation. Great food as always. read more

We were very disappointed in this resturant . We walked in on a Friday night after christmas to have a drink and something to eat. When we walked in the door we told the hostess we were going to find a seat at the bar. She said fine and proceeded to go back to her station. After finding one seat at the bar my husband decided to just stand. Before we were able to order a drink a young couple behind us at a high top table were getting ready to leave , and proceeded to ask us if we would like there table. So we took it. A dark hair waitress who was stationed for the high top tables along the window kept passing us by with-out stopping to ask us if we would like something to drink. Even ignoring my husband when he tryed to get her attention. We thought we could at least ask if she could get the table cleared off for us, so when we she was ready to help us we would have a clean table to order. With that said no responds from her she kept ignoring us. Finally the young blond hostess arrived at our table with menus for us and kindley said " you must have slipped by us at the hostess counter, here are your menus and i will have someone clean the table off for you right away". Which was very polite and we had no issues. Then The waitress came to our table and was very rude by saying"you needed to go have the hostess seat you at a table in order to be served. That was the reason she was ignoring us and not coming to our table to have it cleaned and asking us what we wanted to drink. How extremely rude of her . How were we to know that you needed to have a hostess seat you in a bar area of the resturant . She could have told us when we sat down politely. We would then have proceeded to get the hostess and follow the establishments rules. The waitress had turned us off so much that we put on our coats and then left. The resturant lose our business that night , and it will be a long time before we go back into carolina Blues for dinner. We are in our 60's and been going to carolina Blues since the 80's when it was named a different name. We have noticed latley that some of these resturants that have been in the area like Carolina Blues and a few others seem to have problems hire polite help. We liked eating at this resturant and were not sure just a small thing like not being respectful of the customers can shy a customer away from returning to that resturant for good. We will stick with Terra Nova as we like to eat out at least 3 times a week and they have always hired polite and curious help no matter when we go for a visit. It shows management cares about there customers and thrives on being one of the upstanding Resturants in the area. I hope with this review Carolina Blues picks up on this suggestion to improve their quality of staff. Customers in our age bracket thrive on being treated with respect . read more

Food was incredible. Fun place to go. Generous portions. Loved everything about this place. Nice outside area to sit.

Carolina blue isn't a cheap place to eat, but I don't like my food to be cheap either. Every visit I've had, which there have been many, I have been thoroughly pleased with the quality and taste of my meals. There are definitely plenty of wallet friendly options to fill you up and the beer menu has a plethora of beers to please all of your snow flake gluten free eating vegan friends. No hipster has enough hop to make this place stop. If you're too cheap to pay bar prices for beers then get something from their to go section and go. If eating here makes you blue, there's something wrong with you. read more

Really good environment and great staff. Some good food choices and a decent place to catch a game.

Good beer selection and decent bbq. A little pricey I think but all BBQ is really expensive now. I love their smoked wings.

I've had a very good experience there the two times I have been there so far. Very high quality food.

Carolina Blue never disappoints! From the hosts/hostesses who are always pleasant, service (we had Regina tonight- who was attentive & friendly) But usually ask for Julia when she is in- she's awesome. The food is reasonably priced for the generous portions & great quality you receive. Their bartenders are also on their A-game, always making my drinks to my specifications. (I'm a bartender & server myself) You should expect a wait time at a restaurant like this, but the staff is always accommodating & does take call ahead seating- so take advantage of it! We came in tonight around 4 p.m. ahead of our reservation time & were seated immediately. Thanks again for the great service, food, & drinks! read more

We planned a retirement cocktail party for our boss in early June. Brad, Jess, and the entire staff could not have been more helpful and considerate. The porch and outdoor bar area were set up perfectly. The bartender and waitstaff were incredible. The appetizers were fantastic and clearly above the normal appetizers. Our boss was so pleased with everything. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a similar event. read more

So I recently went there the food was not the best and the waiter could not clean the table from the last people and got the drinks absolutely wrong. I went here for a rehearsal dinner - and Carolina Blue seemed unprepared to handle such an event. My biggest turn-off was that after being seated for 20 minutes, the waitress informed us that "the bread was in the oven and it would be out soon." Shouldn't a restaurant be prepared to handle a large reservation (i.e. have the table bread prepared ahead of time)? The menu had plenty of options, ranging from pricey to expensive. The taste and portions of the selections also had a wide range - the wings were fantastic, but for the scallops appetizer, you only get 2 scallops. I did enjoy the IPA selection, but overall was left unimpressed by the total service provided. We were celebrating a wedidng rehearsal, and I was seated next to regular patrons with 2 kids disrupting my meal by throwing crayons. I'm not in this area often, but I certainly won't be going back to Carolina Blue. read more
