I have eaten here several times now and in general it's a good place to eat. Good food. The issue I have more is about the atmosphere. It's very odd, and cold!, when in the tap room and having the deck area open to a parking lot. There is no scenery. Additionally, everything is al la carte. So things are pretty reasonable price wise until you realize your burger doesn't come with anything etc. So for us, I think it's nice to go to on occasion. I think we would frequent more should the menu be a little more cost friendly. read more

Awesome find on our way home from a soccer tournament. The restaurant was bustling on a Sunday evening, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. This place has a very nice, spacious outdoor dining area. Service is good and good is very good. Very good drink selection, including craft beer. We had the smoked wings to start, which were excellent. The meat fell off the bone and had great smoky flavor. I tend to finish my smoked wings in a hot oven to crisp up the skin and I don't they do that here. For the mains, my wife had the black Angus burger and I had the smoked combo. The burger had good flavor, perfectly cooked. For the combo, I chose the ribs, the pulled chicken and the bistro filet. The ribs had a lacquer of sauce on top that looked fantastic and they tasted just as good. The chicken was the weakest part - it was good but I thought the sauce was a little too sweet. If I could do it again I would have taken the pulled pork, which I would think has a vinegar-based sauce. The filet was new to me. It was very tender and had great flavor. Admittedly, I am a tough diner to impress when it comes to barbecue. We have been passing this place for the last couple years. I keep saying I want to try it out. Finally, this summer I made it in thrice. The first time I had the ribs. Price was $22, which I thought was a decent price. I liked the ribs. My only complaint was I don't think all the bones were from the same slab. Meaty with some sauce. I prefer dry and to add my own if I want some. My daughter had the crab bisque and the mac and cheese. She didn't care for the bisque, but I thought it was all right. The mac and cheese was good. Second visit I had the chili and the pulled pork sandwich. Prices are very good on these items. I believe the chili and sandwich were $6 each. That was an excellent bowl of chili! Loved it! Barbecued pork and beef were the mainstays. The cheese was melted on like French onion soup. May have been the finest bowl of chili I have ever had. Waiter was quite personable and pointed out the mac and cheese recipe on the wall. Pulled pork was fine, but it didn't come off as Carolina pulled pork with the red sauce. Returned a third time with my wife. She was not impressed, but she's not huge into 'cue. I again had the chili. Good, but not as good as the last one. I went with the beef sandwich. I was expecting pulled beef, and it was sliced/cubed. Tasted fine, but did not blow me away. The waiter from our second visit recognized us and stopped by to chat. Nice touch. I have had my fill of the restaurant. I would return, but will not suggest a return. Again, I cook 'cue at home that is better, so most restaurants have a hard time impressing me. Went there for dinner. Had a reservation. Huge crowd standing at hostess stand not socially distancing but we were seated right away. I appreciate all the challenges during covid and am very patient. What I don't have patience for is our waiter who blatantly did not wear his mask the entire time. It was around his chin (mouth and nose totally exposed) when he came to our table, took our orders, brought our drinks and food etc. and the entire time he was walking around the restaurant. Clearly a manager had to see this. Every other employee seemed to be complying. If they are allowing this person to clearly violate laws and endanger people's health during these uncertain times, what other corners are they cutting? I'm will to let a lot slide under the circumstances but not that. Just outright inconsiderate and rude. Won't be back. read more

We had the worst experience at Carolina Blue tonight. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, as the food is very good, yet will never go here again. The manager is the most inept person I have ever met in my life. He placed us in a back corner (which was fine) and then seated an entire party of about 35 people around us. The kids and adults were so loud, we literally had to yell to hear each other to have a conversation. So, I asked the manager to come to our table and experience this absolute chaos first hand. He did, but had no courage to do anything about it, he could not provide us with any type of solution and, in fact, started blaming others. Instead of approaching the situation with grace and empathy, he instead seemed offended that we didnt want to yell at each other. Instead of managing the situation, he blamed the other table, and our waitress took the blame. We were not offered another seat, any recourse, and the other party was not asked to tone it down. Apparently, our expectations for a decent night were a bar set too high. read more

Food was so so. Wife got Filet mignon ordered medium well. It was burnt and she sent it back. My wife is not picky at all . Meat appeared grisly. As not to wait forever, She went for the crab cakes and she tasted and I did too and they were good. I had the ribs. Now these are "award" winning ribs so they claim. They were fair at best. Our waitress was in no hurry to spend anytime at our table and expressed no excitement in the menu or helped us with the experience. We ordered appetizers, salads, and entrees all which were lackluster. Our appetizer was pricey and only had six shrimp in the cocktail platter. The entrees featured a steak, crab cakes, veggies, and potato. The steaks were both well overcooked what was ordered and w the side asparagus we each only recieved three stalks each. The crab cake was good but the twice baked potatoe we ordered tasted like a microwaved shell w concrete as the center. All in all 160 dollars later it was a brutal dining experience and with reccomendations always coming to us for this restaurant we will never be back nor speak a good word on its behalf. read more

Yesterday was my 2nd visit w/ wife, same entrees as first visit. She had filet (medium) w/ asparagus, great both times. I had ribs. Ribs - flavor was good, but a little dry and not very tender. Server brought extra BBQ sauce without being asked, which actually saved the dish. Sharing a garden salad w/ chicken as an app, I appreciate that the ribs come alone without two & three sides that many BBQ places attach to their plates. Service was below average as server would disappear for extended periods of time - 15-20 minute wait for water, 30-40 minutes for the salad starter. Not too busy, started getting crowded after we had already been there for about 45 minutes. We'll return again, but I'll be sure to try something other than the ribs. If service is slow once more (yesterday was almost a two hour long "quick" dinner), it may be the last time for a while. read more

Had lunch today at Carolina Blue. My 88 year old father in law was with us. We requested outdoor dining to minimize the risk. Unfortunately, the bartender/server outside was unmasked. She made drinks behind the bar and served food unmasked. We were very uncomfortable with her behavior. We took pictures and requested to speak to a manager on our way out. We waited patiently for approximately 15 minutes. Told the manager of our concerns and showed him the pictures. He said they tell their employees to wear masks and then he walked away from us. Obviously, they are not concerned with the safety of their patrons. Wanted to have a nice night out with the boyf, so we chose this location as per recommendation by family. Service was extremely attentive and cordial, and the calamari appetizer with diablo sauce was fantastic! I had the chicken and shrimp skewers, which were good, however the chicken was slightly dry (I would have preferred some dipping sauce to moisten it up). The hubby had the ribs. Overall taste was good but meat was a little tough, could've been more tender. Dessert was a chocolate lava cake a la mode, which was so gooey and delicious! Upon presentation of the check, our lovely waiter informed us that on Monday nights, the app and dessert are free with the purchase of two entreés! I love going to Carolina Blue because there is great service and the food is good as well. I have been multiple times and the staff makes me feel at home, and I have made a few friends there along the way. I love their mac and cheese, chicken fingers, ribs, and chocolate lava cake. After reading a few reviews, I wanted to clear a few things up. Carolina Blue is not a barbecue restaurant, nor do they advertise as such. It is a smokehouse. So no, they are not going to have perfect North Carolina barbecue. Just because a restaurant serves pulled pork, does not make it a barbecue restaurant. Also, beers come in all different ounces. If you feel like you are being shorted, read the ounces before ordering. I recommend Carolina Blue because of the service, atmosphere, beer, and food :) read more

After reading some of the reviews I have to add my two cents. I have never had a bad meal here. Braised short ribs are my favorite as well as trying any dinners during restaurant weeks or other special times. Filet Oscar is another fav. My kids love the mac and cheese - we always order an extra for late night snacking. My son loves the filet tip sandwich. And the margarita is the best - mostly alcohol with minimal sugars/ syrups. Well anything at the bar is great!! Best thing is you can go casual for a fine meal in the dining room or in the bar area/patio area. I would give it more stars if I could. One comment about the service - it has fallen off lately but still good. The staff needs to be more attentive for drink refills and patrons needs. There are a few terrific servers. read more

We used to love this place but lately it's been so disappointing. We ordered take out, my husband a bacon cheeseburger he ordered medium and it came well done. I got the pulled pork sandwich that comes with cole slaw on the side.. except mine didn't . The hummus app says it comes with grilled pita which I love. Instead of delicious grilled pita they gave me a small stale loaf of bread. And we always get the chocolate lava cake which comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. When my husband picked up the food he asked where the ice cream was and they said they didn't have any. What?! Very disappointing read more

Didn't take long for me to realize what a mistake it was coming to this place. Ordered the wings and the buffalo shrimp. Buffalo shrimp was OK but the chicken wings were Really bad, undercooked warm and mushy such a disappointment. Had the ribs they are famous for I have to say I don't know if the barbecue sauce soured but it was awful. Service was OK could've been a little bit better. I haven't been here since it was called "The Holly Inn," but it's THE place for PHS reunions, so we had dinner here when we came to town for a reunion. Our waiter was very young, very inexperienced, and very unskilled. Drinks were OK, but my wife's gin martini lacked the lemon twist. When we called it to our server's attention, he came back with it in his bare hands and tried to drop it in my wife's glass! My Dirty Martini tasted good, but the olives looked very old. Onion rings were tasty, but some were cold in the center. My St. Louis Style Ribs were awful. They were old tasting: tough, tasteless, and dry. The coleslaw was awful: bland, creamy, and chewy, not crisp. My wife's scallops were OK, but nothing special. No one in our party of four was happy with their meals, so we didn't order desserts or coffee. We did, however, meet a few classmates there. Also, the bathrooms were clean. read more

I absolutely love the Smoke House Burger- one of the best burgers I've ever had, and definitely the best in the area.

We were in on Saturday 5/19/18. Probably our 4th time and certainly our last. Last time we were here we had poor service and a drawn out mediocre experience. We decided to give it one more try. We had a 5:30 reservation for a party of 4. Arrived at 5:25 and were not seated until 5:45 with easily 6-7 open 4 top tables in the dinning room. We were then seated at an odd table where two of seats were facing a wall and the other two seats were out on the ends. We had two kids with us and asked to for a different table, hostess told us no. I said there were 6 empty table and could we please have a different seat. She again says no and that they other table were "reserved". After a few more minutes of aggravation from her she finally agrees "to go check" , comes back and moves us. We sat at the table for a good 10-15 mins before we see a serves it is now well after 6. We quickly order since we have two kids with us and we BEG that the appetizers and kids dinners come out as soon as possible so that the kids can start eating. 6:30, we have asked for bread twice, still no appetizers. 6:50 she tells us it will be out soon... and brings Everything at once. Two appetizers, kids dinners and our dinner. We had to send our dinner back. At this point the kids are starving, we can't eat two appetizers and an entree all at the same time. Serves says that it was all her fault even though we asked, she "put it in wrong" and she assured us about 5 times her manager would be over to make it right. No surprise with this place, but no sight of the manager once. Terrible service all around, from the aggravation from the hostess, to the server, to the slow service. To the fact that I had nachos for dinner because by the time we were done we had to leave before we even could eat the entree we ordered. I am not saying accommodations need to be made for families with children when dinning out, but I am saying that when multiple employees mess up, some sort of accommodation should be made for the paying customer. I Just get the over all sense that no one cares about the customer at this establishment and that in this case the serves and hosts do whatever they want with no back up from management. Not only will we not be back, but I will be sure to tell everyone I know to avoid this place at all costs and to bring their business to an establishment that treats the customer with a little respect.
