There's coloring books for you to relax with. And some shelves with snacks to purchase. They have a regular menu and a specials menu that's regularly updated. The staff and owner are super friendly, kind, and informative. They recommended me some specials, showing me pictures of the items as well. They also cater so if you're having a gathering and need something just for your veg guests they can do that. My first ever experience at the Cafe, I walked in as a 'baby vegan' (new vegan) and said as much. I looked over the menu and wanted to try something completely new to me - the Compassionate Q Nachos. The owner offered to give me a sample taste of the nacho topping so I could be sure I would like it before I ordered. THAT is the type of customer service that makes this little gem of a cafe stand out. By the way, the nachos are out of this world and I've ordered them several times since. You don't have to be vegan to be a patron of the cafe. Do you love soup? Baked goods? How about a cheeseburger (that you would never know is not vegan! Seriously. Try it.)? Are you a fan of breakfast sandwiches? The specials change all the time and we have never ever been disappointed. I always like the food here, but I wish it opened (even slightly) earlier, if only on Saturday. If you want the breakfast there, you'll be ordering after 11 when it opens, and then of course it takes time to make the food after that. So if I wake up and decide I want their breakfast food, I have to wait quite a long time to get it. I might just decide to eat at home or go somewhere else. Could they open an hour earlier? Or maybe somehow let you place orders only at 10:30? Maybe it's just me, but that would make a difference. read more

Myself and four others happened upon this place while looking for a lunch spot with some vegan options. We were blown away by the atmosphere and the customer service. It feels like friends are cooking you a meal! The staff is EXTREMELY pleasant and warm, treating us like welcome regulars from minute one. They had plenty of options and our non-vegan friends were all very happy with their healthy delicious meals. My daughter had an egg & dairy allergy when we visited Gentle Giant, so we tried to keep her on a primarily vegan diet (because there is egg and dairy in everything), so you can imagine how tough it is to do so. We hadn't been to Pitman since we moved into Gloucester County in 2018 so we decided to take a drive on a nice Saturday afternoon, we were absolutely not disappointed with Gentle Giant Cafe. As I do with almost every other eatery, I read the reviews on other sites and they were mixed, mostly unfairly. Let's first address the elephant in the room, yes they are a 100% vegan restaurant, yes they are earth friendly, and yes they use styrofoam containers. Why? Because the owner purchased an already kitted out restaurant which had the supplies still leftover, and as a good business owner, you keep your expenses down and stick to your values as much as you possibly can. I'm sure once they are out of those containers, they'll wind up using something more earth friendly. With that said and out of the way, the food and service were FANTASTIC. They asked first if we knew they were a vegan eatery, we told them yes but we were not vegan but very happy to try them since my daughter had an egg & dairy allergy (at the time, which she's grown out of!). We weren't treated any differently, not sure why another poster had that issue. I'll just say people usually respond in kind so if you're rude, they're rude. Not making an assumption on someone elses conversation, but making it clear we were treated nicely even though we said we weren't commited veg or vegan. We ordered their chickpea salad and a round of Impossible burgers for my wife, son and I with their home brewed iced tea. I know the vegan burgers restaurants are selling (beyond & impossible) are purchased wholesale frozen (or maybe refrigerated, not sure), so theres not a whole lot of prep involved there. However, i'm not sure what Gentle Giant did to the burger aside from the bun and additions, but it was by far one of the best burgers i've ever eaten. Sorry Gentle Giant but a great breakfast burger still reigns on my burger bucket list, but your Impossible burger is definitely in the top 3. The burger was PERFECTLY cooked with the usual accompaniments of jersey tomato, lettuce and onion on a potato roll with a side of fries. For you meat only eaters out there, I challenge you to go check out this burger at GGC and tell me it's not amazing. You can really taste the "meat" flavor (created with various plants), as well as the sunflower oil. So good. The service was also impeccable. Dawn and team were welcoming to a young family of non committed vegans, let us know about the various family books we could read our kids while we waited, and was also attentive to refill our drinks. Great food, great service, a great spot in downtown Pitman for a weekend afternoon walk and lunch. The only knock on them would be to extend their hours. I know they are targeting the brunch & lunch crowd, but not sure how long they'll last without being open for dinner. I understand that an eatery does not have to consume your life, but not being open for dinner in downtown Pitman with the foot traffic could be a mistake. We ordered a Beyond Burger and the Jackfruit on a potato roll. The food came out fairly quickly considering there was a lunch time rush. Gentle Giant is amazing. Being a student in college, it can sometimes be hard to find vegan options that actually taste good. I love coming to Gentle Giant for some comfort food, while feeling good that it's sustainable and not harming my health/the animals/the environment. The staff is so lovely and always kind. The first all vegan restaurant in Gloucester County just opened. Owner/Chef Dawn Lucas has dreamed about this for years, and finally had the opportunity and location to make her dream come true. The cafe offers breakfast and lunch, Wednesday thru Sunday, from 10 am to 3 pm. The room is small and cozy, and the food is all plant-based. I've had the tempeh BLT, lox-less bagel with vegan cream cheese, BBQ Jack fruit platter, chickpea salad platter, apple tart and Vinkie (vegan Twinkie). Everything is delicious! There are beautiful paintings on the wall of some of the animals NOT being served as meals, including cows, pigs and chicks. Dawn and her husband Aaron are super friendly and eager to answer any questions for people who are not familiar with some of the ingredients, or reasons to eat this way.
