I went here for a rehearsal dinner - and Carolina Blue seemed unprepared to handle such an event. My biggest turn-off was that after being seated for 20 minutes, the waitress informed us that "the bread was in the oven and it would be out soon." Shouldn't a restaurant be prepared to handle a large reservation (i.e. have the table bread prepared ahead of time)? The menu had plenty of options, ranging from pricey to expensive. The taste and portions of the selections also had a wide range - the wings were fantastic, but for the scallops appetizer, you only get 2 scallops. I did enjoy the IPA selection, but overall was left unimpressed by the total service provided. We were celebrating a wedidng rehearsal, and I was seated next to regular patrons with 2 kids disrupting my meal by throwing crayons. I'm not in this area often, but I certainly won't be going back to Carolina Blue. read more

Stopped in here unexpected on Valentines day. Just needed a quick bite at the bar (nothing fancy)before a show. Lots of people waiting, with and without reservation. Lots of empty tables but hostess people said tables were not available. Foursome that were waiting ahead of us for 40 minutes eventually got one of the empty tables that sat unoccupied the entire time!! Yes, my bad, that I didn't make reservation but that didn't seem to make a difference. Couple waiting near us had reservation yet waited 45 minutes! Party of two? Really? Hostess stand seemed completely unprepared for the crowd. Counted 15-20 empty tables on our way out yet a crowd of people waiting again?! Manager was clearly annoyed that kept taking about empty tables. Time to give this place a rest for a while. read more

First, completely agree with other reviewers that the service is terrible. The bartenders are specifically awful, which isn't a great reputation to have as a bar. It's an easy thing to fix for an otherwise great place. Food is good, not great but good and the place is very nice with a great outdoor area. Once came with a party of 8 and were told they were booked that night. Would have been happy to sit at bar for hour or two waiting for a table but the hostess refused to give us a wait time because she couldn't promise a table. Never heard of such a thing. I'm not going to lie. After reading all the great reviews I was highly disappointed in this place. We were promptly seated at our reservation time and promptly greeted by our waitress. (That's what the 1 star is for.) We then waited about 15 minutes for our waitress to return just to take our drink orders. It was a busy Saturday night so the wait for drinks after ordered was reasonable. It then took another 15-20minutes for our waitress to return just to take our order. We ordered 1 app (onion rings) and an entree each. Our waitress then disappeared for 30 minutes. In that time our drinks ran dry and the table behind us had their waitress stop by no less than 4 times. Our waitress then arrived with our entrees. No appetizer. When I told her we never were served the app she seemed surprised?!?! Why? No clue as she never returned once to our table in 30 minutes. She then offered to wrap them to go? Are you kidding me? We canceled the app. I ordered the ahi tuna which was to be served with a soy ginger sauce. I did not get sauce. When I told my waitress she asked me if I would like her to get some? Seriously? No, just thought I'd tell you about it. My entree and sides were also cold. My boyfriend's filet looked like a hockey puck. Although, he said it was good. Room temp, but good. The table behind us had a basket of bread. We were not served bread. It felt like we were not even at the same restaurant as all the other tables around us. Disappointing! Caroline Blue was the go to place for me and my friends for years. Always great food and great drinks. Tonight - not so much. I was there with a friend (visiting from out of town) and we were seated quickly at a high top in the bar area. It was busy so we sat with menus for over 15 minutes before we were even greeted. Finally we gave our drink orders. We each had the Cruel Mule and it was definitely sub par. This is the drink I always get and it is supposed to be served ice cold in a traditional copper cup. Ours were served in water glasses with melted ice. It took about 35 minutes for our food to come out. The hummus plate was blah, my buffalo shrimp was okay-ish (the chef needs to try the ones at Giumarellos in Westmont) and my friend's burger was not cooked to the temperature he requested. To make up for the food we ordered two martinis. First of all - you never, ever put vermouth into a dirty martini. Ever. It was ruined. But I was pleasantly surprised when it came with blue cheese stuffed olives. But if that is the standard, our server should have informed us on the chance that we were vegan or had a dairy allergy. We both have worked in the industry so I could see the that our server was in the weeds and they were very much under staffed. We paid our bill with a generous tip anyway. Empty tables waiting on their regular customers that were no shows = no paying customers. Have been there a few times and it's the same thing. Nice staff but forever on food and drinks. This was a Wednesday night. Got the flank steak for $24 and it was no bigger than 4oz. I got the bigger of the portions brother in-law got the same, he was done in about 5-6 bites. Charged $2 extra because I didn't want the asparagus and got zucchini. Brother in-laws order was wrong got fries instead and did not come out until after he was done with his meal. Do not go if you want entrees. People got there after us got burgers and sandwiches and left before us. We got our food in about 30-40 min. I get my steak med-rare. Sister in-law got hers med-well (I know) had to send it back for being under cooked. This is probably the last time I go and such a same because live close. Had my mother's surprise 75th birthday at Carolina Blue last night. The staff was very accommodating. They let me come in a couple hours early and set up the tables and balloons the way I wanted. Our waitress was awesome and even took some group pictures so that the whole family could get into each shot. The food was excellent and the drinks were top shelf. All that at a very reasonable price. Wouldn't hesitate to go there again for a party, lunch or dinner. read more

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Not only was there a 45 minute wait which I really can't blame them for on a Saturday night, they took our cell phone number and claimed to have called us. They never did because we had no call on the phone listed. We waited longer until we went up to the desk. There famous half rack of ribs were not only expensive but so tough, my husband claimed it was like eating beef jerky. My crab cakes at $24.00 were mostly filler and very little crab meat. I have to give it five stars because I really like the food here. I think it's underrated. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. It gets noisy, but it's a bar and that's why they have the dining room, which is a really nice casual environment. The service is good and everyone is really nice. Visiting a friend here in NJ and he was excited to try this BBQ/Smokehouse place so off we went! Not sure this place knows what it wants to be? Is it a smokehouse? A bar? high end restaurant? a Bistro? a nightclub? Well I can tell you this, It's not a BBQ Smokehouse like the name suggest. We had the sampler plate because we were interested in, of course, sampling the meats! Dry is the first word, the ribs were decent but nothing to write home about, the fillet tasted like a dried out over cooked cheep loin, the pulled pork was more BBQ sauce than pork. We also had the mussels, and they were actually pretty good, I would suggest those! So why the 1 star? The service was simply bad....... I asked for a spicy bloody mary, and the waiter, who was also the bartender, and looked to be some kinda manager simple said it was a pre mix, and I would like it, well ok.....It was BAD.....Worst was the fact that he over charged us for the food, and we got no apology, just an oh, look I charged you for a 2 hamburgers that you did not have, and when he "took care" of it he just discounted the ticket and it was still wrong? REALLY! We had to ask for another ticket and the waiter seemed really put off by it, even made the comment that he had to tear the other one up..... Our waitress came after appox 15 minutes of waiting the first time. took our drink order and meal order. another 15 minutes went by came out our apps, salads, and soup all together. Have been to Carolina Blue many times over the past 5-6 years. Traditionally, I'd anticipate a 3-4 star experience: the food's always good, but service can be impersonal and the draft beer selection can be limiting. Today, however, it was a real 5-star experience. Our bartender, Lea, provided exceptional service, giving us information on a newly available local brewery's IPA (finally, a good IPA on draft... that's worth an extra star in itself!) and pouring refills intuitively. The Mac&cheese and hummus platter were great starters, and we got sandwiches to go for later noshing at home. By far one of the best experiences we've had at CB in recent years, and definitely look forward to returning so long as they have a good IPA in rotation and maintain the excellent service level provided today by Lea. Been here a few times, doesn't get any better with age. Like all the Cooke bars, the portions are a little smaller and prices are a little higher than other area places. The smoked stuff is mostly dry and tastless, and some non smoked items still taste smokey when they shouldn't (never had smoked chili before). The best of the Cooke places is the Telford Inn, but be aware the portion/price thing holds true there as well, the Riverview Inn is a dump and should be just bulldozed into the Delaware River. read more

I was here last Friday May 29th for my friends birthday. We were seated outside which was nice. We ordered our drinks which were good, they had a big selection to chose from. We then ordered our food which took a little long. Once the food came out a couple orders were messed up. Someone else's burger came with someone else's fries. Someone ordered chips, but got fries instead. My meal which was the crab cakes was good until I started eating aluminum foil that was in with the crab cake. I sent the order back and got a new one, the second one had no aluminum foil, but then again I only took a couple bites from it since by that point I was barley hungry anymore. The manager never came up to the table to apologize for the food. We did surprise my friend with a cake and the server brought it out before some of us were even done eating. Which wasn't a huge deal, the server was nice and did that for us. We also gave the server a piece of cake and she was very thankful for it. We then asked for the bill, when the bill came out there was 3 things on there that weren't ours. The up charge price for the fries were outrageous, the same price as if you were to order fries. We also got charges for the order of fries that they had to correct. She fixed our check and brought it back my meal was no comped. We paid for my meal and after the fact I asked the server as to why they didn't comp my meal and her response was they do not do that here. I could understand if it was my fault, I am not worried about the money hence why I paid for it then asked. I was eating aluminum foil, that was clearly there fault. I will never dine here again that is for sure. read more

We had a birthday luncheon here for 18 guests. We chose the covered patio area and it was perfect. Jason, our server was excellent and very attentive to all our needs. Thank you Jason ~ You definitely make hosting a party " effortless"! The food and service were outstanding!! All the meals looked good and got great reviews from all of the guests at our luncheon. Appetizers, sandwiches, soups, salads & even a few entree's ~ all were reported to be quite tasty!! The children of our group enjoyed the Macaroni & Cheese ~ I can personally tell you... its fantastic!! It may not be the 'best' place for younger children ~ we made sure they were kept occupied and the 4 children in our group did just fine. You will love the atmosphere of the outdoor patio with a covered area and an open area complete with a fire pit for the evenings!! I'm only giving this place one star because you cannot give zero! Recommended by friends, we were very excited to try a BBQ place in our area. We had a early dinner so place was empty...waitress was very prompt but also pushy for us to order. Ordered the Carolina Blue margarita which is described as having Blue Curacao as it's blue feature....watched the drink being made was not put in the drink and when I asked waitress said "oh that's just the name...like the restaurant" ok, drink wasn't as described but wasn't horrible, let's move on... Ordered hush puppies for an appetizer...got about 5 medium sized puppies soaked all the way through to the center with grease...inedible! Not a complainer so didn't send them back. Waitress noticed we didn't eat them and offered to remove them from our table but not from the bill. Dinner was two BBQ sampler platters...pulled meats were definitely the best item but both drenched in sauce...no smoke flavor only sauce flavor. Bistro filet is some kind of weird meat definitely not a filet...no taste served with some sort of ranch dressing concoction which was ok to drown out the flavor. The ribs looked beautiful and whole plate looked very appealing, but looks are deceiving! Ribs had a chemical taste either lighter fluid or propane both absolutely UNACCEPTABLE in any restaurant , but in one claiming to be a smokehouse??? UNFORGIVABLE!!! Onion rings again drenched in what appeared to be old oil and again inedible. No offer to remove them from bill either even after we commented on how terrible they were. The food was so bad we will never give this place a second chance. Just because you slap a high price on something doesn't make it good, but calling yourself a smokehouse is a disgrace... read more

First time visiting last night. Long wait-40 minutes. Place was packed. They do take reservations. My son had the burger. It was good. My husband had the ribs and they were delicious. I had Chilean sea bass .....would not recommend. My fish was $25 and besides a few pieces of lettuce that was all that was on the plate. I got pretty sick last night. Everything was a la carte. Creamed spinach was bland. Cole slaw way too much vinegar. Double baked potato was good. Stick to the BBQ items. We also sat on the back covered outdoor deck. Asked for an Arnold Palmer, and didn't ask if I wanted alcohol, and added it anyway. When I asked for non alcoholic, he have me an attitude. Asked for water 3 times. I will not go back to Carolina Blue. It was a beautiful fall evening so we opted to sit out on the patio. Maybe that was the mistake. The service was terrible. Not only did we have a long wait for our meal, but when the food finally arrived it was cold. In addition to lousy service and cold food there were fruit flies everywhere!!! Could not believe this the staff handed out coasters and we were instructed to place the coasters on top of our drinks and that this would help combat the swarming of the flies!!! In addition, our waiter disappeared and never checked back with our table. Finally, a manager appeared at our table and said our waiter asked him to check to see if there was anything else we needed. At this point, we wanted nothing more than the check so we could leave.
