We had one breakfast and one lunch there during our visit. Breakfast was delicious and fresh with multiple gluten free options and something for each of my other family members. We enjoyed lunch there as well the next day. For lunch I had a tasty burger with a gf bun and a side of fresh vegetables, since there is not a dedicated fryer. My server went through the menu options and my allergies with the chef and took very good care of me. Multiple dietary issues often make a sit down meal less stressful and these were both worth it after the careful attention we received. We made a reservation about a month in advance. They text you to do an early check in and the process was really easy to do and they won't sit you until your entire party is there. Cast members are very nice and happy here. I wished we would have been sat outside as we were given a very undesirable booth table inside the restaurant. The people that we sat next to had zero wherewithal and didn't seem to understand personal space. The loud music coming from the cell phone from the man that sat next to my daughter was enough for us to ask to move. The cast member handled it so kindly and moved us to a better spot. After that our visit was great. Walt's Chili started off really good. The sour cream and cornbread pieces left the rest to be so desired. There just weren't enough of those cornbread pieces. The chili did taste like it was straight out of a can, but once you get a bite of the steak pieces it's a game changer. We also got fried pickles and those were great. The turkey club was really good, I liked that the turkey was carved, there was plentiful mayo so the sandwich wasn't dry. I wished that the bacon pieces were more cooked though. One of them seemed raw, but overall the sandwich was great. The fries were also amazing as was their ranch. My daughter really enjoyed the cheeseburger and my sister said the patty melt was amazing. They do take magic key here also. Our waitress was so attentive, was always coming to ask us if we wanted refills and to see how we were doing. She was very appreciated as was the rest of the staff there. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Disneyland because the menu caters to every one of all ages, the prices are good, and the cast members are great. Disneyland park admission is required in order to dine here. We were able to get onto the walk-up list at 6:15pm on a Sunday night. The app initially said 15min, then as I was entering the line it went up to 60min, then back down to 45min and I ended up receiving the time to dine text within 5 minutes and we were seated inside. I would say don't be too discouraged if the walk-up estimated time looks high. The food is on the better quality end for theme park meals and I appreciate the variety of options that they have. We've been fans of Carnation Cafe for years at this point, mostly for the food. The front desk has always been disorganized and they have never sat us on time. You have to wait at least 10 minute past your reservation time to be seated. We've overlooked that as the food and service have been solid. Unfortunately, our server today was not friendly. We sat out our table for 10 minutes before he even came by to take our order. Additionally, our food came out cold. There were runners running food out to tables but perhaps the runner just can't keep up. We didn't complain as we were really hungry. This place needs an overhaul desperately. Finally got to try Carnation Cafe! Boy does this place get crowded!! You have to make a reservation or you won't be able to get in. I've tried to walk up the day of, and put my name down and the wait was hours. So call ahead for a reservation. This cafe is crowded for a reason. The food is soooo good. If you plan to eat here, make reservations 60 days before you plan to visit the park. They were not accepting walk ups the day we dined here. We enjoyed our lunch outside while people watching, and there was plenty of shade with the umbrellas everywhere. My mom ordered the chef's salad and said it was very tasty, my husband ordered the short rib and said it was pretty good, and I ordered the veggie burger and was largely disappointed. There wasn't much aoili sauce and the large slice of tomato was thicker than the veggie burger! At least the fries were really good, especially when dipped into a side of ranch! Let's be honest about the carnation cafe, while you're waiting 15 minutes to be brought water or a menu, you get to watch the rotating cast of servers congregating in the hallway between the restaurant and the patio to talk about their weekend plans, discuss drama, and gossip about customers, and ignore their tables basic needs. One young guy with a mullet basically ran around the restaurant doing everything from drink refills to getting people more condiments and bussing tables. This restaurant would be review bombed if they were not riding Walt's legacy and the clientele weren't too exhausted to care. In addition, The Patty Melt is exceptional. read more

Carnation Cafe had never let me down yet. You gotta make your reservation early but usually you can check in with the mobile app and be seated within 10-20 minutes you just have to be in the area. It's a casual place nothing fancy but has that nostalgic feel. Last weekend our waiter was Javier. Very pleasant and easy going guy. We were hot and tired of being on our feet all day. To start we ordered some adult beverages, an Oktoberfest beer and their signature old fashioned. The beer was good, but the Old Fashioned was just plain awful. Tasted like it was poured out of a premixed cocktail bottle and it was so lukewarm the ice was melting when it got to the table. We ordered Walt's Chili to start, which was tasty and quite cheesy. The wife ordered the turkey club with fries, which she really enjoyed. I had the beef stroganoff, which wasn't half bad but was similar to something you could find in the frozen food section. As far as service, our waiter was fairly attentive. He, like all the employees, seemed in a rush and overwhelmed. Overall, not bad for a Disney restaurant and, of course, not cheap. Now, for the food: -Walt's chili cheese omelet: actually the tastiest thing we got! Next time, we'd definitely get this here. It had a good amount of cheese inside, and the chili was tasty. -Breakfast skillet: pretty disappointing, actually. The flavors were ok, but the textures were not. The potatoes were just soft, not super well-seasoned. The bacon was more thick and chewy, not at all crispy. The egg was meh - also, for anyone who might be hoping for Mickey-shaped eggs, they no longer do this. Just normal-shaped eggs. -Kids' menu Mickey-shaped waffles: more for the shape than for the flavor. Pretty mediocre waffles. They did allow adults to order from the kids' menu, but only kids get the milk or Dasani water with the meal. -Kids' menu Mickey-shaped scrambled eggs: not good... thick, rubbery, and not seasoned. Overall, I'd get the chili cheese omelet again, but pass on the others that we tried today. I do wish they had a chicken fried chicken and waffles option for breakfast... Another sit down restaurant I've never been to in Disneyland. We did not have a reservation, but I was able to join the walkup line midday. The wait wasn't bad, around 15 minutes, and they'll notify you via app/text once your table is ready. I really wanted to come here for their... +fried pickles, and oh gosh were they delicious. They're fried pickle spears, so they were super juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. I asked for ranch since it comes with this special sauce, but I think fried pickles are the best with ranch - texas roadhouse, anyone? Anyways, I'm definitely coming back for that. My boyfriend ordered one of their current specials: French dip sandwiches. It was just okay, you couldn't really taste the horseradish/mustard so it was a little bland. I asked our server about the fried chicken sandwich - apparently that's a special that only comes around during Halloween time. Unfortunate! That looked delicious. $20 + Peach pie a la mode: sooo good. Granted, we could tell that the peaches were canned, but the pie crust was deliciously flaky, and the pie itself was freshly baked. Tons of vanilla ice cream on top, it was overall really good and enough to share. Service was pretty fast, and our server was nice.
