Friendly establishment located on the southbound side of Rt25 with plenty of parking. One of the few places where a large pizza can feed a small family. Love that they are family friendly and hospitable. This is a cozy and no frills place, their speciality is good pizza and good service. Free refills on fountain drinks. We stopped off here to grab a snack during a drive from NY to RI. New England has a bunch of good shit but pizza is not one of them, I figured we might as well take advantage of our last opportunity to eat decent pizza for a few weeks. They have interesting options that don't necessarily appeal to me as a vegetarian that doesn't eat mushrooms or onions but GF was super excited to see clams casino slices for sale. I ordered a standard pizza slice. The first thing you'll notice is that the slices are fucking GIGANTIC. There are few pleasures in life like being served a mammoth of a pizza slice. As far as my cheese goes, the crust was thin and what you would expect from a NY-style pizzeria. The sauce was lacking somewhat in flavor but the usual suspect seasoning agents were within arm's reach. The clams casino pizza must have had an entire ocean's worth of clams on it. I've never seen so many clams in my life. Despite being the human equivalent of a dyson clam vacuum, GF actually couldn't eat all of the clams because there were just that many. This was our first time at Carminuccio's Pizza. I'm originally from NYC where you can get some of the best tasting pizza around but I have to admit this pizza was absolutely amazing. Super friendly staff, very clean seating area and bathrooms. What's more besides tasting so good, they're gigantic!! Like having two slices in one. We also ordered chicken and beef wraps which also were delicious. Just a quick FYI; when ordering wraps be prepared to wait half hour. A bit of a bummer in my opinion. Oh there's plenty of parking. Thumbs up for that. NYC has some serious competition lol. Definitely recommend and yes we'll absolutely going back for more. read more

One of the best pizza places I've eaten at outside of New Haven. Since I teach in Newtown, we get our weekly pizza from Carminuccio's. We always get 1/2 sausage or pepperoni and they really load it up! Service is always pleasant and they are timely. What a find!! Tried 2 pizzas there last night- the Prosciutto Special ( mozzarella, prosciutto, sweet peas and onion) and the Mrs B's Special! ( mozzarella, crumbled sausage, prosciutto and caramelized onions) The flavors in each of these pies were fantastic. I mean completely loaded if you want. We ordered 2 individual slices and had plenty to bring home for leftovers. The place is small inside but they do have a patio and the staff is very accommodating. They have also been written up by a few different places for the pizza which also gave them fantastic reviews. Ordered a margarita pizza and a sausage bread. My pizza was good, always enjoy the pizza here. The sausage bread on the other hand wasn't great. We thought we were getting a traditional sausage bread with just sausage and cheese. They don't tell you that their sausage bread is loaded with peppers. There were so many peppers that it made the bread soggy and completely fall apart. Disappointed and ended up just throwing the entire bread in the trash. read more

The Staff at Carminuccio's are very friendly and pizza isn't bad. I have been here a few times, the most recent being with a large group of people. The main issue I had was the seating. The setup is a bit odd. You order inside and then (usually) you go outside to eat. However if the weather is not good you have to eat inside. That is what we did. But there are only a few tables inside and it was sort of cramped. It was also kind of a bit to warm inside. It was not a comfortable experience. So dining here when it's cold out or rainy is a challenge. Because of the above mentioned reasons, I wouldn't really choose this as my first place to eat. However the staff couldn't be friendlier and it's great on a warm (but not humid) summer's day. There is plenty of room outside. At the end of the day I feel this place is better as a to go or dine outside place. read more

This was my first time here and I was very impressed with Carminuccio's. The food is great! Here the rundown: Ambiance and format: It's small, but there's outdoor seating in warmer weather. Inside, it's crowded and there are only about 8 tables, accommodating around 20 diners. Upon entering, you're very quickly greeted by one of a half dozen young girls who work the counter and the tables. You order from the counter. They bring your order to your table. Not sure when or where exactly you're supposed to pay -- we paid after we ate -- at the counter. It all seemed a little unorganized. But the real reason to go here is the Food: classic Italian pizzarria food -- to the highest standard. The pizza is crisp, semi-thin and cooked to perfection. The ingredients are fresh, rich and tasty. We had the eggplant pizza #18 on the menu. It included breaded fried eggplant, basil, roasted tomatoes. Incredible! The roasting of the tomatoes brings out the sweetness in the tomatoes. Truly delicious. And prices are reasonable. I highly recommend Carminuccio's. read more

I am told I am a very picky person when it comes to take out pizza! One of my favorites is Tybee Island Pizza in Georgia so you can imagine I don't get that too often. So to my total surprise the other night at my daughter's in Newtown another fabulously delicious Pizza came my way. The "Eggplant Special" With red sauce,mozzarella,egg battered eggplant,roasted tomatoes, minced garlic and fresh basil. This pizza is life changing. The roasted tomatoes taste so intense and are perfection. There is just enough of everything to complement and not overwhelm. It's a fine dance of tastes on the palette. I live in Norwalk but will plan on having this pizza as often as I can!!!! I highly recommend this absolute delight! read more

For the following that they have & as busy as they get I must say - these guys are FAST! They can grind out some pies! So the fact that you don't wait for what feels like eternity to get your pie is a big plus. These pies remind me of old school pizza parlor pies. Not New York-style. Not Naples style. Not New Haven style either. The crust's edge is like cracker crispy & crunchy. The pie is thin & the interior of the the dough is foldable but not under done. No char or corn meal. The tomato sauce is sparse- I would have preferred more as it was tangy & cooked perfectly just not enough of it. The mozzarella is buttery w just the right amount of salt. We had the clams casino -which is white- which comes w sweet red peppers & chunks of onions- didn't like that but added bacon- which I was told was excellent quality, not too salty. Ample toppings. Clams were tender. I had the eggplant. Thin fried squares were good w a creamy texture & not oily. I really wanted more sauce. I anticipated more flavor. The service is super friendly, no attitude, happy to serve & the prices are very good. The variety to the menu is just right & doesn't go over board cramming all the Average Italian American items in "just bcz" but offers what most of us want/crave/expect. We always have at least one pizza and sometimes a sub to share... salads are okay but the real attraction is the thin crust pizza and the delicious toppings! Subs/grinders are awesome too!! Not surprising I guess since it borders NY. Carminuccio's is located on Hwy 25 in a house. Nothing exciting to look at from the inside. Order counter, tables, and some beautiful desserts and breads on display in a case near the back. But looks can be deceiving. Out of this place comes some of the best pizza I've ever tasted. I have had many types of pizza there, stuffed breads, sub sandwiches, and of course several dessert selections. At Carminuccio's the pizza toppings are extensive. Some include: caramelized roasted garlic cloves, roasted tomatoes, pesto sauce, spinach, escarole & beans, barbecued chicken, and bacon. The pizzas are made to order right in front of you. The dough is stretched thin, the toppings added liberally, and the pizza is slid into the oven. 10 minutes later, you'll take a bite even though it is super hot, and it won't matter. Having had amazing pizza from Lombardi's in NYC, Frank Pepe's in New Haven / Danbury CT, Sally's in New Haven, Pizzeria Mozza in LA, Olio's in LA, and Mother Dough in LA, I can tell you that Carminuccio's Pies rank as one of the greats and deserving of it's national recognition and accolades. The pizza is classic Neapolitan that's been perfected. The thin crust is chewy in the middle and crispy on the outside - all the way to the center of the pie. Given how thin the crust is, it's a testament to their culinary greatness that you can hold up each slice without having the the tip flop over. I would eat here every day if I could. I stopped by here on a recommendation from a friend. I'm going to say it was a decent well made pie but I've had some really great pizza in the past. My favorites in CT are Sally's in New Haven, Roseland in Derby, Fat Cat in Norwalk. I like Pepe's a lot too but it's not my top pie either. The sauce was pretty typical pizza standard fair... I like a richer flavor in my sauce which is why I tend to lean toward a Sally's or Roseland. I ordered broccoli rabe, garlic and prosciutto and to be honest, the prosciutto looked like regular ham but I'll take their word for it... I'm used to a more thinly sliced, saltier prosciutto. The broccoli rabe and garlic were very good though. I'll put it this way. I wouldn't not go there again but it wouldn't be a place that popped into my mind to stop into to satisfy a craving for it. Above average? Maybe. Best in CT? Not in my book. read more
