I haven't bought a car from a dealership in over 8 years due to the chronic bad experieinces. I've seen the commercials, and honestly it is nothing what we thought it was. Selection-wide range from low end to top end luxury. Though probably 100-150 cars total on the lot. Salesperson-Friendly and kind worked well with us. Only complaint we had 7 pm appt we didn't see her until 7:45. Test Drive-Most big dealers discourage freeway test drive and just take you on surface streets. Before I could even ask she suggested we take it on the freeway. Our choice and price-We bought a 2010 Town and Country. THough a little high on miles it appears to be in good condition. The price was high-about $500-700 more then regular retail. For me it was worth every dime due to the ease of the deal. Warranty-the warranty was $$$ and not sure if I should of gotten it. I never got one before but it will last us the 4-5 years we own the car so I took the bait. We'll see if it holds up to what they say. I think too since they sell their own warranties you may have better luck finding a quality car-it would cost them more to sell junk in the long run. Gap-Gap was $399 we got it just in case. There we no other add ons like at other dealerships. Do you want this that or the other thing. Just know if you want warranty and gap. Financing-No finance guys to deal with-just salesperson and signer. They deal with four banks. We went with Wells Fargo at a little over 3%. They show you all the offers and terms and choose which one you want. Pretty easy. If you find cheaper financing you have 5 days to return the vehicle. I am impressed, and since I typically only buy used cars this will be my go to place for now. Again, I know it will cost me a little extra but buying a car in under 2 hours from a dealership is worth it and no hassle. read more

We went there with our sister-in-law who had just lost her husband to cancer. She wanted to sell her car and we were greeted with kindness. While we were waiting for her appraisal to be completed my husband and I started looking for a reasonably priced SUV. The salesperson didn't pressure us at all. He answered our questions, ran payment scenarios, and continued checking on the status of the appraisal. While the cash offer didn't work out for our Sister-in-Law, she was appreciative of the service she was provided. After she went home we test drove a KIA Sorrento that we had been checking out. Once back on the lot we purchased the KIA Sorrento. The process was fast and easy. CarMax made the buying experience far superior than any other car buying experience we have had in the past. My car had been totaled, I had my settlement and was ready to buy a car. They had a car I was very interested in and I drove out there on a Friday night. The receptionist waved her hand and said that the car I was looking for was "somewhere" outside and she would help me but needed to find someone to cover the reception area. I wandered the lot for about 10 minutes and finally found the car I was looking for. Looked it over and still no one to assist me. waiting, waiting.... Went back inside and the receptionist was chowing down food and told me that she still had to wait before she could help me. Wow! How do they sell cars? Absolutely no hassle, easy process, great selection...they, unlike many other dealers, make it easy to want to do business with them. We experienced the worst customer service at the Tolleson CarMax. We both work A Lot so we prearranged a purchase so we could arrive and sign the paperwork and leave. We verified the day before that it was ready to go and was told by Dawn Riviera and Christopher Nevel that everything was in order and to come in Friday. So we both arranged our schedules to head in for what we thought would be a stress free event. Instead, upon arriving we were told they didn't have the title so we couldn't purchase the car and either we come back when the title arrived (on another day) or purchase a different car at a $600 increase in purchase. Brad Hatakana, the sales manager, offerered a tank of gas and an Uber ride for the incovenience, which i told him was unacceptable. Leaving without a car was not an option for us. So I suggested they provide a rental car until the title was in and we could arrange our schedule to come back in. He would not budge on the price or rental car option so I contacted customer relations and spoke with Darrian. He said there was nothing they could do. The final result was purchasing the different car at a higher price. How convenient for CarMax. Now, I own a business, and when either I or one of my employees causes a loss to a client, I eat the loss because that's how superior customer service works and how to do the right thing. CarMax didn't care about our opportunity cost or the inconvenience their human error caused. CarMax is a huge publicly traded company and I know eating the $600 as cost of doing business would have a chump change effect to its bottom line. We will never use CarMax again. read more

I should have known better. I called the CarMax in Tolleson to talk about a car that I found on their website in Vegas. The first salesperson I contacted seemed nice at first so I thought I would give her the opportunity to finance the car. I should mention at this point that I have been in the car business for 35 years, my credit score is 722 and I have zero missed payments on my current accounts. She came back with a 900.00/month payment. The car that I had picked out was well within my budget, but the payment was off by twice what it should have been, plus I was putting 4500.00 down. I asked her why the payment was so high, she really didn't have an answer other than, "CarMax corporate is the one who will finance it." I instantly gained a mistrust with her and CarMax and it put me on the defensive. Without asking me, she transferred the car from Vegas and texted me that the car will be here soon. I called her and we talked about the transfer and I was told it would take about a week. I thought that was reasonable. I took 2 weeks for the car to move what normally takes 5 hours from Vegas to Tolleson. I called CarMax to see if the car got there yet and a different salesperson answered the phone. I told him what happened with my first salesperson and he apologized. At this point I decided that I don't want to deal with the first salesperson as I don't have time to waste, I just want my car. He said ok, I'll take care of you and said that the finance deal that was offered sounds "off" and he assured me that he could probably do better. I still felt guarded and thought that the best way to not get ripped off is to handle as much of the deal myself. I found a credit union that got me a great payment and even offered to delay my first payment for 60 days. So now all I have to worry about is my trade in. The first salesperson told me that they would give me wholesale for my trade,$22500.00, which is immaculate, low miles and needs nothing. I thought that we could probably work together and figure something out once I brought my trade in for them to see. I also was willing to buy my way out of my trade but they only offered me $17,000.00 for it which was a slap in the face. Luckily the credit union that gave me the loan said that I didn't need to trade in my car to get the other car. That works because it will give me time to sell the trade. So the big day came, it was time to see my car and get this deal done. I was greeted by my new salesperson in the parking lot. He looked at my trade and said, dude, that's so clean, wow. I thought, yup, it's clean. We went inside and started the paperwork. I was offered the opportunity to go over my trade with a "buyer", so I said yes, I would like to do that. We went for a drive and he mentioned that the car was super clean and by the end of the inspection, he said that there was nothing wrong with the car and gave it a 100% score. Next I drove the new car and during my inspection noticed that the left rear quarter panel had some of the nastiest paint work that I had ever seen. It had dirt in the clear coat, runs and dry spray all over it. I should say at this point that the car is a 2012 and has 27,000 miles on it. I pointed the quarter panel paint out to the salesman and he didn't say anything. After the test drive I told him that I would like them to take $500.00 off the price of the car, so I could pay my technicians to fix the paint. He took my paperwork to the "business office" and returned with the statement of "no dice" on the discount. I said, geez, you want to offer my $5500.00 back of wholesale book for my spotless trade and you won't even take 500 bucks off the new car. Now my distrust started all over again. At this point, I just wanted to take my new car and go, I liked the car enough to take care of what I had seen on my own. During the paperwork phase, my credit union lady called me and said that the license fee had been bumped by $100.00 and that I should ask about that. I asked 3 people about it and all of them said they don't know anything about it. I had gotten a buyers order from the original salesperson and even though I gave that to the lady in the business office, they still messed with the numbers.....that's a no no. I also gave them a down payment and instead of them taking the amount off of the price of the car, they charged me full price for the car and took the down payment off the gross amount, which cost me $300.00 more in fees and taxes. I took the car home and the next day I tried to pull it out of the garage to wash it. Both of the key fobs were dead, the car wouldn't start. I called my salesperson and told him about it and he just said oh ok. He didn't even offer to pay for the batteries so I could drive my new car. Bottom line stay away. read more

Had to get a second car...finally time to stop sharing! We decided to research online as to not get pressured by salesmen etc... We found the exact car that we wanted!! But it was in Las Vegas :-(. Found out that they will transfer for free with no obligation! Score! I was told they would call in 5-7 days when the car arrived here. Surprise the car was here in only 2 days! We showed up, greeted super quick and friendly, the car was pulled around in just a couple of minutes. We loved it! Decided it's the one, did paperwork and were on the road within one hour!!!!!! If you have ever purchased a car at a traditional dealership you know this does not happen. Overall, even six months later we love the new car and are constantly sending people to car max for their new car needs. All I can say is thank you so much! read more

As an over the road trucker I needed to get a more reliable car for my family. I picked out the car was told I was preapproved then approved for the loan and after talking to Jahan, I had advised her I lived off-grid (solar and well), she said that wouldn't be an issue and I was told to send in proof of income and all the other goodies, I sent everything in and she told me my proof of address was not acceptable and then stopped communication all together. The funny thing is I spoke to each bank they were trying to finance me through and they said my ID showing my proof of address because it was recently issues was good enough, but my pay stubs also had my proof of address. That's not even the worst part, they continued to pull my credit for three days after this as well. I ended up going through a real dealership who actually got me a loan with one of the banks CarMax claimed denied me. You're not getting a good deal going through them, they will destroy your credit and then deny any wrong doing because "you agreed they can pull your credit", I agreed for you to pull it one day not three in a row with the same banks. You are better off going with that other dealership similar to CarMax if you need a "buy here pay here" at least they are great for financing if you can't get a traditional loan such as Capital One, Wells Fargo, Chase, ect... Not to mention you can put a token in a hole and watch the car come to you... I personally ended up going to a dealership that doesn't work off of commission and is one of the major ones in Arizona. Another thing to help those who aren't aware, CarMax will ask you to insure the vehicle before they even secure the loan, as my insurance agent told me after I explained to him what happened, he said "Never insure a vehicle that you don't have tags for." The bank will allow you to purchase the vehicle first then insure later (before you drive off the lot), the only thing the bank won't do is fund the loan until they know all paperwork is done and it is properly insured, CarMax wants their money, thus they want you to insure the car before they even find you a lender. read more

I recently purchased a 2009 Nissan Murano from CarMax in Tolleson, AZ. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with the whole process. From the moment we walked in until the time we left it was truly a great experience. Andre was our salesperson, and he was amazing. The whole process from start to finish took 1.5 hours. An hour to look at the cars and test drive, 15 minutes to run our credit and choose options, and 15 minutes to sign the paperwork. Left with a carwash and a full tank of gas...hardly anyone does this for you anymore!!! The price on the car is the price you pay, and we were fine with that-who wants to haggle? No tag-teaming, no "let me talk to my manager", no hassle, no problems. We got to choose our down payment. I never write reviews, but I HAD TO...the experience was that good. read more

This company allowed a transferred vehicle to be purchased off the "cargo truck" when it made a stop at another dealership. They offer vehicles for sale all over the US and allow you to have the vehicle transferred to your location, but in fact if it is not on their lot they do not have the ability to actually get the vehicle here. After waiting 7 days for the vehicle to arrive, I was then told that somehow it was purchased at one of the "cargo delivery stops" along the way. A few days later they dropped the price on the car that I had inquired about (first red flag). I inquired again about the same used car. I received a response from someone that said something along the lines of...When can we get together to discuss what you are looking for in a new car? (second red flag). Please do not EVER buy a car from Carmax!!! They are professional until you get the car. Their service department will ruin your car that is under factory warranty. If u call expect to be on hold at least 25 min, if anyone even answers the phone at all. Took my car in for a new AC under warranty and they got freon and ink the size of a dollar bill on my beige BMW leather seats. Took 2 week to repair the damage and I had to drive 45 min to them twice only to find out that the car wasn't finished. No one called me to let me know and I could never get thru to them by phone. The workers have no ideal how to do their job and if u ask for a manager... They are always in a "meeting"". Me experience was about a 7 as far as help with transporting , purchasing and the deliverance from the sales agent Carolina . From the time I left i regret ever buying a car from this place . I test drove the car and noticed the air was not cold so that was supposed to get looked into . Ended up having to go back for that to happen to find out there was a leak in the condenser which kept the car from cooling down in HOT Az . So I asked the service guy if they checked the cars before asking he told me no but they do fix whatever the customer brings back to them . How the hell you selling cars and not doing a FULL diagnostics . So i took it to my mechanic and was told the tires are run down and needs replaced ASAP . I called CarMax back and was told if it meets there standards then they could not replace the tires . I used then bcuz i HEARD they took care of their customers and sold great cars which is obviously NOT the case . I was told it had brand new tires which was obviously a LIE !! We have bought a lot of cars in our time and this by far was the first that was painless and easy. From the minute I walked in I was not hounded by vultures trying to get my business. I was greeted by a gentleman who's name was Randy S. I told him the car that I was interested in and it was still avail. We took it for a test drive and it was everything I was looking for and more.. What I did tell Randy is my husband was not coming into town for 3 days and I wanted him to see it but was pretty much sure we were going to buy it. While I was at the dealership there were two other customers looking at the car as well. Randy put a hold on the car and it wasn't avail for anyone else to look at it from the web site and also had a sold sign so no one else would inquire. Fast forward to Sat. came in bought the car was in/out of the dealership in less then an hour, no haggle no pressure nothing just really good customer service. I will NEVER go to a traditional dealership to buy a car, CarMax has my business as long as I will be driving. Also the same car with the same mileage except for my car has a panoramic sunroof and the car at the dealership didn't and it was 10,000 more at the dealership. Nothing is wrong with the car and it held up to the inspection from both the dealership and my mechanic. Don't waste your time with the haggle/headache of traditional dealership look on line have them put the vehicle on hold and go drive it!! read more

I want to start by saying I like CarMax as a company. My wife and I have purchased 4 vehicles from CarMax. But this experience was less than what we have come to expect from CarMax. First issue was we made an appointment since we live on the opposite side of the valley of this location. Upon our arrival we were greeted right away and sat a table for over 25 minutes, without being assisted. I finally asked to speak to manager which didn't happen till about 30 minutes later. The sales rep was okay, but when my wife expressed her dislike for having to wait for almost a half hour after scheduling an appointment. The saws rep was not really apologetic and was a little argumentative. I'm not sure if we will do business with CarMax again. Just a personal preference. read more

I brought an used 2011 Buick Lucerne with only 32K original miles. Carmax prides itself that they only sale the cream of the crop of used cars. The Buick came with a Carfax and everything looked good. I test drove the Buick and brought it. 7 months later my Buick needs new tires - it had the original tires on it, has a major oil leak (it's hard to see this at the dealership, but how did it pass inspection?), broken motor mount and the battery did not have enough juices for the size of the car. I did not have the car inspected because I trusted Carmax that they did that already. I did not purchase an extended warranty either. I should of noticed the tires even though I asked the car salesman about it and he said they were fine. I will not buy another vehicle from Carmax again. They do not inspect their vehicles thoroughly. Also since they don't haggle with their prices you would think they would do a better job at inspecting their cars. read more

BEWARE. We went to CarMax to avoid the aggravation typically associated with a dealership. We picked out a Nissan Murano which had to transferred from Bakersfield at the non-refundable cost of $488. When the vehicle finally arrived, we were then told we have to wait 3-4 days for prep, title, etc. When we were eventually scheduled to see the car it had not been thoroughly detailed, and there was a whining sound coming from the grimy engine compartment and there was something like paint over-spray on the front of the vehicle. In speaking with the manager he said that they did not have a facility to detail cars (?) and that the car had received the 123 point inspection when it arrived, but that sometimes cars develop problems while sitting on the lot. (Really!) When you spend almost $500 to transfer a car (which was also listed for top dollar), it is not unreasonable to expect that it will be detailed and running! We are careful with our money and found it hard to walk away, but this coupled with calls never returned and deceptive and misleading statements, it seemed like the best thing to do. P.S. No one from CarMax ever bothered to even call to see why. read more

What can I say ?? It's been one fantastic experience time after time. I am about to take possession of my third purchase from CarMax, Tolleson, AZ. After my first purchase, Mazda Miata, I was blown away not only with the quality of the car, and the $$ but the whole experience. I love the policy that they will buy your trade - in even if you do not buy from them. That just instilled 100% customer satisfaction being their goal, in me. I traded that car in and received my second Mazda MX-5. Once I was ready to make a change, I knew there was nobody else I wanted to work with, especially Jason Moore. The process started off at my pace. I searched for my perfect car on line, with a fantastic software tool. I put in my own search parameters and once I had several cars to my personal wish list I put them into my own list box. Every time their price was reduced, or they had been sold, I was immediately informed via email. When I was ready, with zero pressure from the company, I went into CarMax, met with Jason, and he assisted me through the process. I went to CarMax after a bad experience with another dealership. Going to Carmax was a completely different experience. I will have to say that it was the easiest and best car buying experience I have ever had. I use to sell cars about 10 years ago. I know that selling someone a car is time consuming and stressful. But it wasn't like that at CarMax. We worked with Zach Navarro. He was a friendly guy and I liked working with him on this sale. We were allowed to take the car we were looking at for a test drive. The previous dealership didn't do that. They had went straight to crunching numbers. Not CarMax though. CarMax accepted my pre-approved financing from Capital One. The previous dealership didn't want to use my financing and they actually approved me for a lower loan amount and they wanted me to come back the next day to if I even got approved. Because CarMax used my financing, I was able to purchase the vehicle that me and my wife were looking to buy. We bought a 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek. The price was great, the car was in great condition and the staff at CarMax were awesome. I would definitely buy from CarMax again and I will recommend to my friends to go check out CarMax. read more

I recently purchased a car here at Carmax in Tolleson. Part of the reason I went there was because of their 5 day return policy. They gave me a ridiculous trade in value for my car, but I accepted, which is on me. Well I decided to return the car within the five days, and I just want everyone to know that if you do that, don't expect to get your car back. Instead they will give you a check for the ridiculous amount they offered you. I don't know if this is even legal but they will not return your car, so just want everyone to know that before you decide to trade in your car. Oh, and if you put some money down, it will take about two weeks to get a check in the mail. I will admit though, that the return process was easy and hassle free. read more

After being traumatized and suffocated by mainstream dealerships, CarMax was a breath of fresh air. I found the car I wanted to view on their website and the sales rep, Trent, brought it up from Tucson to Phoenix, just for me, FOR FREE, no obligation to purchase whatsoever. The car arrived days before anticipated and was everything the online ad described - better even. They showed me the entire vehicle history and provided extended warranty information PRIOR to financing talk so it could be included in the payment arrangements (#Dodge #Chevrolet dealerships not so forthcoming). The entire process, from the test drive to handing me the keys, took less than 3 hours - and Trent never had to leave us to go talk to a "finance guy" - we viewed the financing offers together, simultaneously! No secrets, no wheeling and dealing, no stupid good cop/bad cop routine. Trent answered all our questions and made the experience as simple as possible. I'm very happy with the 'No BS' approach and will most certainly purchase here in the future as well as recommend to my friends and family! read more

This place is full of lairs ! We got a suburban and were not happy with it so we tried to take advantage of the 5 day return policy . We saw a other vehicle online and went to see it well within the 5 days . When we told J.R the manager what we wanted the blue 07 suburban disappears. ... ya so after playing it off that it was in transit to cali we left knowing we were played !!! But as soon as our 5 day return was up the suburban reappears back on their website ! :( we are foster partents and this vehicle was so important to insure we could continue helping kids ...its sad that people do business this way . P.s the vehicle we got stuck with was so dirty inside my family didn't believe it was bought from a dealer but barrowed as a joke . 120 00 detail job out of my pocket was another slap in the face !!! read more
