The sales process was great, but after 2 days our car developed a steering issue and caused the rack to be replaced. We took the car back and were told that the rack had been replaced, the next morning we woke up to a pool of oil. Upon inspection it looks as if the part was not replaced , but in my opinion repaired. We are taking the car back again for another repair! read more

Do NOT buy a car from here, dropped my car off for warranty work, they got the parts in a week but i then got a call saying a clutch line broke (which i found out later a tech broke). That line was backordered for A MONTH. I had to wait a whole month because of a techs mistake. I was told id get the car back washed with a full tank and that wasn't done either. Fast forward to a week later, battery light pops on and i start losing power. I limp it home and pop the hood to see both battery terminals loose, i tighten them down and take the car back out for a drive just for the car to die on me because the alternator fried itself. Carmax's techs dont know what they are doing and their customer service has been extremely unimpressive. Called to have this matter addressed and all i got was a sorry. Guess ill just drop it back off for another month and watch my warrenty disappear. Thanks Carmax! read more

I recently bought a pick-up truck thru CarMax. The one I found was at their store about 100 miles away but they trucked it up to my closest dealer (Palmdale). I was happy not to be haggling over the price or worrying about the legitimacy of the seller or the vehicle's background. The vehicle had a small issue and they readily repaired it. The service department there is great! Nice people, seemingly happy at their jobs and taking a genuine interest in making sure I'm happy in all respects. I believe all the vehicles they sell come with a short-term warranty, which helps protect a buyer from someone selling a car with a somewhat invisible but serious repair need, such as a car owner discovering an expensive repair and selling it to some unsuspecting buyer before the problem becomes apparent. That happened to me once with a small water leak into the oil crankcase. In short, any mystery regarding a used vehicle is minimized. This is my first CarMax purchase and I'm very impressed. So far a great vehicle purchased at a very reasonable price. read more

The salesperson shows up with 2 cold bottles of water. And drank them himself during the drive. Came in to ask a few questions and see if any vehicles I'm interested in were on the lot to test drive. The sales rep I spoke with, Eric, seemed bothered to have to "help" while he was lounging around when we walked in. He "helped" by simply looking up two of a handful of cars on the CarMax website that I expressed interest in. (Which is something I already did prior to coming in). If I had known, I would not have wasted my time. Maybe this gentleman who calls himself a sales rep should also work on communication skills, since every question I asked was answered and directed towards the man I came in with, who was not even the person buying the car. On Sept 22, 2018, my son, his wife, and myself went in to buy a car for them. I went for moral assistance. The process was begun by sales consultant Kevin Orellana. He was awesome, a great communicator. If you want someone that will explain everything clearly and concisely, he's your guy. He made the buying experience carefree and fun. We had to come back because the car that was selected had to be brought up from San Diego. When we went back, Kevin sat us down with another sales consultant named Marcqus Castillejo to finish up the process. Kevin had told us that we wouldn't have to pay anything until the car arrived there. So Marcqus walked us through the last part of the process. Marcqus is also very knowledgeable and a great choice if you want to get a car there. He was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He also made the car buying experience easy and pleasant. Later, we were walked over to sign all of the paperwork. The woman that helped us there was pleasant and easy to talk to. Then on to getting the key for the car. They walked us outside and their car was waiting there with a big, yellow bow on it. My son and his wife took pictures with the car. Then he and his wife drove off the lot on their new-used Ford Fiesta. It's a really nice car. It drives very well. They selected a hatchback and have already used it to move things around in it. So, I recommend anyone that is looking to buy a car, go to Carmax and look up Kevin or Marcqus and they will put you in a great car and make it happen quickly. read more

My car buying experience was a 4 star but I'm rating this a 2 star on the service department. My car had an issue ONLY on the FUEL GAUGE. They keep my car for over two weeks and once I got the vehicle drove it home and 3 weeks later that I wanted to drive it it turn on for 5 seconds and shut off. Never had an issue mechanically and it stared once I got it back from them now I had issue with it not starting. I have a corvette z06 given I don't drive it every day I warm it up every other day. When I wanted to start the car it would just crank but would not start and it spelled a lot like gas. Took it to the service department and they told me it was a BATTERY issue. How can it be a battery issue when the battery gauge is reading 14 volts and the sterio, alar, windows , horn head lights accessory lights work and started is trying to get the car going? If you need to get your car service in a timely manner and would like actual professionals working on your vehicle do yourself the favor and go to a certified dealer that's the same maker of the car because carmax seem to have Rockies working there. Not only did they get me on a 300 dollar battery they I didn't need but I'm sure they fix the problem with out trying to get in trouble. AVOID CarMax for Service on your vehicle!!!!! read more

Recently visited my local carmax store. The carmax store in palmdale ca. Big place and a huge parking lot. Cars are parked on the east side of the lot behind a large fence. Its a beautiful shop. Must have had 500 cars on the lot...some ready to sell...other being inspected...other waiting for that. Its a big huge operation that they have. Went inside the store and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist. In fact the whole staff was incredible very friendly, polite and professional too. Something you rarely see in america anymore. Then saw the car i was interested in with my sales rep william. William was great and knew a lot about cars. The car was a 2008/2009 lexus ls460L. But turned out they made a mistake and it was not the ls460L, it was a base model ls460. A cheaper model. The vehicle wasn't in great shape. It had scratches on the hood...one headlight was turning yellow with a lot of scratches on the lense and it had a large crack in the front windshield. I asked william about it and he said the car was inspected by car max specialist and it was considered ready for sale. He said the crack met their specifications. I figured how cheap is carmax not to repair a broken window and fix the scratches on the hood and change one of the yellow headlights. But william didn't see a problem with it. Then the appraisal on my car. My car was far from perfect but i knew it was worth at least $3000-4000 dollars minimum. i had a 2004 mercedes-benz s430 which originally cost $70,000 new. The carmax inspector went through it with a fine tooth comb. checking doors...buttons...controls...looking under it...over the body..opening and shutting doors..a very thorough inspection of it. Then the offer for it...$2000.00...which seems very low but william my sales rep said it was a very good price for it and a fair price too. So there you have it...they try to sell their car which was far from perfect and steal my car from me...But thats the car business and you have to expect it. Gave it 3 stars for the friendly, polite and professional associates but if it wasn't for that would have given it one star for their not ready for prime time car with a broken front windshield...condition of the car wasn't that clean...yellow headlight and scratches on the hood, and their buyer who tries to cheat you on your car. Will i ever go back to carmax. No not at this time. Their section that does the inspections, safety and getting cars ready for the lot isn't ready yet. They might be overworked and letting cars on the lot that need work and cleaning. But i can advise anyone to go in and enjoy the experience there. Just don't trade in your car to them. They will try to cheat you. read more

BUYERS BE WARNED/TRANSMISSION BLOW AFTER 2 MONTHS. If I could give this review 0 stars I definitely would. I purchased a 2013 Honda Civic from this dealership back in mid April 2018. I have already had to change the rotors, front end piston boots, AND front brakes on the car, which isn't a hard do-it-yourself fix BUT I now need to replace my transmission because it is completely SHOT. The service technician or whoever inspects these cars pay little to no attention to detail or safety and completely let this major and expensive fix go unnoticed. I will be contacting legal services to help me build a case against this company for allowing this car to have such major problems AND be sold with those problems. I will DEFINITELY never give my business to CarMax again. read more

Went to the CarMax in Palmdale. First found the car online and it was in Costa Mesa CarMax. Called Palmdale CarMax and spoke to Mary. Mary said that she could ship the car for free for us to see in Palmdale. Mary was with us every step of the way. We met with her and less than 2 hours later walked out the door with a great car for our daughter. This was the best experience that we have had shopping for a care. Don't waste your time or your money!!!!! I paid 32k for a car that had a missing skid plate! They refused to replace the skid plate and accused me of loosing it or running over something. I am a teacher and live my life with integrity!!! If I had, in fact, lost said skid plate I would have replaced it myself. I had not noticed it was missing until I had an oil change (too late in the eyes of the device manager) and the oil technician explained the many dangers associated with not having the plate in tact. So please beware! Look under any potential car before you purchase, better yet beware all together of the people who are in charge of this establishment. Go elsewhere, really! read more

I had checked the Kelly Blue Book trade-in value before stopping in, and after they did their inspection, CarMax offered exactly that amount. David Hinneriches is the bomb !!!! It was like hanging out with a pal. No hassles, and no haggling. We were given a free copy of our trade-in vehicle's history that normally has a fee to order online. We were approved within five minutes for financing. The vehicle we wanted was at a location north of San Francisco, so we paid the $149 to have it brought down. We received email updates of when it was shipped, and when it arrived in Palmdale. David called us numerous times to keep us updated. It did take quite a while to do paperwork the day we picked up the truck, but the financing department was a little backed up. No worries. This was, by far, the BEST experience we've ever had buying a vehicle. read more

We could not be happier with our experience at Carmax of Palmdale back in July. It was our first time on a carmax lot and it was an absolute 'no pressure' experience. They ask you what you are looking for and let you know the types of vehicles that are in each area and they allow you to go out and browse the lot ON YOUR OWN with no pressure from anyone. We were looking for a second vehicle for our daughter since her vehicle was totaled in an accident that was not her fault. Diethra was our sales associate, she was super nice and answered any questions we had. We found a vehicle that my daughter really liked and took the vehicle on a test drive and we really liked it. We needed to set an appointment to come back after my daughter received her insurance check and everything from there was amazing to say the least. At the time of signing the paperwork, they offered to pay up to $200 for an owners manual if the vehicle did not have one. It did not have one so we purchased one and sure enough they reimbursed us the cost of the manual. The vehicle also came with a 4,000 mile or 4 month (I believe) limited warranty. Well, about a month after my daughter had the car the battery started going bad (it was 3 years old), they replaced the battery without any problems. Fast-forward to today, one of the tail lights had gone out and the rear-view mirror fell off the window, they fixed both issues. Sure, a little inconvenience, but they have taken care of everything without question. Will definitely shop their lot in the future if we are looking for a used vehicle. Really like the 'no pressure' of Carmax and how they stand behind their vehicles! read more

Sold me a car priced 50% OVER Kelly Blue Book. And apparently it's not the first time they've done this to someone, either. I thought Carmax had an excellent reputation for selling quality used cars- but not at a price that prevents me from refinancing at a regular bank. How their own in-house financing ok'd an 07 jetta for $9k when it books for $6k is beyond my understanding. They never offered gap(which would have told me the KBB value was way off) or told me, in any way, what the book value of the car was. The orig plan was to refinance the vehicle at my own bank after a settlement check came in a week or so, from the insurance company, after an accident. Low and behold I take the paperwork to my bank and learn that the car was WAY overpriced. They would not go near it, ene though my FICO is over 700. Now i'm stuck with a car that's worth one-third less than I paid. I never, in a million years, would have thought that CarMax would do that to someone. I made the enormous mistake of believing they would not treat customers like that. Then, I saw an almost identical jetta a few days later, in the Palmdale listings, also for 50% over KBB. I tried to call the dealership- no return call. I will NEVER do business with Carmax again. Furthermore- i'm posting this on my Facebook, so all my friends will be aware, also. read more

Went in to carmax to get my car appraised. It took over an hour and they left me waiting in the lobby with out any knowledge of what was happening with my car. Our saleswoman didn't come up to us until the offer was ready. Once the offer was presented they said my car has been in two accidents and they didn't provide any proof. My car hasn't been in any accidents and I had the carfax to prove it. I was disappointed with the offer. I've never left a review but I was so upset that they lied about my vehicle and did not want to provide the proof. read more

First off, if I could give a zero star review, I would. So, I was looking for a car through the carmax website. I found the one I wanted & had been looking for. I had them ship it over to carmax in Palmdale from the Irvine location. I immediately was contacted by Ian, one of the salesman. He set up the transfer, and we set up an appointment as soon as it was ready to view. About a week and a half after the transfer, I had gone to see the car and went over numbers with Ian. We ended that I would get a cosigner, and would contact him as soon as I was ready. 2 days after after our 1st meeting, i couldn't find the car online anymore so I contacted Ian and he reassured me that the car was still available, and was back up online. I had found a co signer a couple days later, and had contacted Ian again to set up an appointment for the following day. He told me the car was still available, and he would see me the following day. As we arrived to meet with Ian, he was busy with another customer. 15 minutes later he came and got me. He started by telling me that the car was available and he had seen it that morning. He also said that he had almost sold it a couple days ago. We sat down & he looked up the car and said "Hmm, the car is on hold, let me find out" he got up and started pacing around. He sat back down and said "The family next to you are actually buying the car, I'm sorry". I was extremely annoyed. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL of him, Why would he even set up an appointment with me, and not put it on hold? Especially since I had told him the day before that I had a cosigner ready. To make matters worse I left very disappointed with the situation, he called me right away and said he found another one to come back in so we could run numbers, I agreed and as soon as I walked through the doors he came and apologized again and said "never mind that car is already being transferred, I'm sorry. It's not a good day". Ian is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL I would not recommend him to anyone I know, much less do business with him or carmax. I can't believe a business that had just opened in our area, would have such an unprofessional & unknowledgeable staff such as Ian. Luckily for me, I went elsewhere & found my car the following day. carmax lost a sale & possible returning loyal customer. read more
