The wife and I purchased a new vehicle from Carmax Irvine this week and I have to say that we are both so incredibly pleased with Chaz and the staff . It was the largest purchase for us in 20 years and by far the most painless purchase. Absolutely no BS or pressure, got the car we wanted at a much lower price than anywhere else and woke up this morning not feeling anything but relief and satisfaction. From start to finish Chaz was professional and personal, attentive and thorough. We felt absolutely comfortable and at ease with him during the whole process. Buying a new car sucks! Salesman are pushy and lie to your face without remorse as well as waste hours of time running back and forth to the Manager for approval on everything from windshield wipers to air in the tires! Not at Carmax! Super fast and relaxed atmosphere as well as no pressure, , lies or deception. We literally were in and out in 2 hours! So if you're looking for a new car, don't worry about it. Carmax in Irvine will take care of your needs and remember to ask for Chaz.... read more

My husband and I were very impressed with the service during our search for a car. The salesman was very informative and didn't pressure us in any direction other than showing us the cars that we were interested in. We also thought they were fair with their prices. We recommend CarMax if you are looking to buy a decent used vehicle. read more

Bullshit irvine carmax completely sold me a fucking lemon. I've had my car jus over 30 days and I've been having problems but wasn't able to take my car in until this morning. I took it into the costa mesa carmax which I thought I loved them 100% they told me my motor mounts needed to be replaced my two front tires were balder than bald a/c needed to be charged, my alignment was off, and my radiator was leaking and/or cracked... they had not don't their special little check list before they sold me the car and now I'm going to be without my car for AT LEAST 2 DAYS.... alright so i was without my car for 7 days and had to take it back for another day because they didn't fix my brakes properly... it's been a few months since i last had it in and my brakes were squeeling already, now it's everytime i brake. THANKS CARMAX! TRUST NONE OF THEM also the costa mesa carmax didn't give me a rental car so I had to bum rides everywhere just because when i was able to take my car in it was past the 30 days because they had no appointments until after my 30 days. piece of shit company... never go to carmax unless you're buying a brand new 0 miles car then there is no way they can fuck that up. I thought I was in love, I bought my car from them on a holiday weekend in the evening, they let me drive it off the lot without my insurance company proof of insurance since they were closed, they said my current insurance was sufficient until I could locate my agent. They harassed me entire weekend about locating my agent to fax over policy even though they knew he woulnt be available until Tuesday. My sales person whom I thought was great started texting me every couple hours asking for updates on insurance papers. I called and spoke to manager his only response was bring the car back someone else will buy it, we sell thousands of cars daily. I loved my Mercedes and I thought it was a great deal so I kept it, bad mistake!!! Just a little after the grace period was over I had light fuses blow out, I guess the inspection wasn't that great, called to complain they simply stated what do I expect I bought a used car. Just took it in for it's first service after 3000 miles and I need new brakes and roaters!!! Total nightmare!!! read more

They have fairly decent prices, but don't bother trying to finance through them or trying to buy anything with them unless you have literally every bit of paper work. Been here 3 times already each time bringing back what they ask and still no car... read more

Never, never, buy a car from this Carmax, they sold car quickly and friendly, but service is really bad, wish your car won't get problem at weekend because they won't care about you. They don't care about customers, sales consultant won't give you support after sales, the service manager only push you away with bad attitude. Incredible and unreasonable. Very bad experience. read more

My husband and I have used Carmax for years, to sell our cars, and for the first time a few weeks ago, we bought a car from Carmax and so far, I am a bit concerned and disappointed with the process. We needed a bigger car to fit the kids and additional family members, since car seats take up a lot of space, so we bought a 7 seater SUV, drove off the lot happy, then noticed a few things almost immediately that concerned us, as they were obvious issues with the car that were missed. Not intending to take the car to a third party mechanic for a check up, we felt it was necessary at this point after finding these blatant issues. We took the car into a speciality shop that is focused on european models, they did a full diagnostic and gave us a list of items that needed to be fixed, the list included several dangerous issues that were obvious safety issues that were missed by the "Carmax standards" in their full point check. We called them and made an appointment to take the car in, within the 5 day window, brought the list with us, they gave us a rental and sent us on our way. I followed up several days later and they had gotten a handful of the smaller issues done, the none dangerous issues, that cost them very little to fix and was told that the bigger more dangerous issues weren't things they were able to Check and validate on site and that they needed to send the car to the dealership as to ensure that they didn't void any manufacturer warranties, etc. and that this would take an additional week. we are now on week two and I doubt we are getting the car back anytime soon... and I am driving a horrible, not comparable loaner car. I wish I had known this was going to happen and I am alarmed with their standards and inspection, which missed some big things!! I am also sad that I already sold them my car when all I want to do is get my car back... let's hope they can fix everything because according to Paul, one of their technicians, there is no guarantee those issues will be if the dealership doesn't feel they are as severe as the mechanic noted and if they are within "Carmax standards", which so far, are not standards I trust my families life too. read more

not impressed. they used to be pretty good but have been sloppy on their vehicle reconditioning and car inspection. So I will just use a name brand dealership and bargain on a clean car fax. no point in going to carmax if they dont inspect the cars like they say. read more

Will never buy from them again and will encourage all my friends to stay away. We bought our son a car and warranty- when engine in the car blew after just a few months...we went through hell trying to get carmax to honor the warranty we bought from them...it got so difficult that we ultimately took the car to the original manufacturer and out of goodwill they repaired the car- when it should have been carmax. I highly recommend that buyers go to and buy from dealers who manufacturer the car - you will likely have less headaches and trouble should an issue arise. read more

I bought a Pontiac G6 from this CarMax back in 2012. At first, I was so pleased with the way they handled business. The employees were polite and courteous and there seemed to be no real shenanigans going on, so I was pretty happy with my overall experience. Friends and other people I've talked to have warned me about the cars CarMax sells though. They will polish them up and make them real pretty and you won't realize there's something wrong (or many things wrong) until later. Now let me clarify that I have not had any mechanical issues, but cosmetically...inside and out...there's a lot of bad going on with this car that was very well hidden. I'm still finding broken pieces stuck in place with black putty or other sticky substances. This thing had been falling apart, and these guys went ahead and just glued her back together. Stains bled back through on some of the seats that weren't there before. The stains popped up and seeped back through the material in places people hadn't even sat in since I had owned the car. I'm a single guy and don't really ever have anyone else in the car besides my girlfriend, and some of these stains were pretty massive. Aside from that, this thing was scratched and scuffed so much more than I noticed initially. After a rainy day or two, the scratches and scuffs really came to life. Yep, just as I had been warned. Shame on me for not listening. CarMax is in the business of polishing turds. Do the smart thing and buy a used car from a reputable dealer and not this Walmart of a car dealership. read more

CarMax had many car to choose but to make sure that they have all car key and accessories and that the mistake we made after I bought a car had only one key and I must go to the dealer to order another one cost me a several hundreds of dollar more. I would suggest to check the car be carefully and don't believe their car check report because some car had an accident and they fix and new paint it. read more

I have been thinking about getting a new car...no real reason, just wanted to try something different. I contacted carmax online to set up an appointment for an appraisal only. I made my appointment and it was confirmed by John D. who said that Marc P. would be the person to meet.. I arrived for my appointment and went inside. A older woman with grey hair approached me and I told her I had an appointment for an appraisal. She looked at the computer and then said, "Nope. No appointment" I said, "It was confirmed and here is the email" No apology...nothing. She then said, "Where is your car?". We walked outside and she asked me the same questions I had spent time answering online for John D. She also threw down one of the classic red flags of used car salesmen...the "hurry or you will lose out" line. In essence, "We will give you a price and you MUST take it within 7 days or the price will drop DRASTICALLY." Really!!! How original... She then barked, "Follow me!" and we went to one of the MANY cubicles all numbered. She sat down at her computer..."okay, guess I should sit down too??" She then said, "You can walk around and I will call you when it is done" I asked where the lounge was since I didn't say I wanted to walk around..but I guess that must be instructions in their "manual"... Make the customer walk around so we can SELL them SOMETHING! The lounge is just a few chairs in the showroom with a tv blaring. Lots of sales people in their numbered cubicles eating bags of chips from the vending machines and staring at their phone. In about 30 minutes Gina yells as me from the far end of the showroom, "Done!" which I guess is my invitation to come to her? Good thing I remembered her cubicle number since she was already plopped down in her chair as I attempted to find my way like a rat in a maze to her cubicle. She then told me things I already knew about my own car, it's miles, who owned it, no loan...and the value of their appraisal. She also sneered at me, "You have TRANSMISSION problems...they don't like that..." Okay... I pretty much ran out of there from that point! If you are desperate for money you might go there and sell them an extra car. I don't have any transmission "problems" which are not specified WHAT they are on the piece of paper they give you and things like tires were marked "good" when I just replaced them 2 weeks ago. Sorry, Gina...but I will do the unthinkable and NOT have Carmax buy my car within the 7 days and yes...I know... my appraisal value will PLUMMET into the abyss. I think only really desperate people would go to this car max and would really, REALLY need some cash...any cash...to actually sell their vehicle to them. Even though their online system completely failed when it could benefit the customer such as not having to wait when arriving for an appointment and answering basic questions just one time..they now have my email and I have already received a sales email even though I specifically asked Gina NOT to send me any crappy marketing emails. read more

It's not a very friendly place overall... The Good. I asked them to deliver the car from another Carmax in LA and they did that within a week, no charge to me, before I even looked at it, so that was very nice of them. The price was very competitive. The Bad. The car had over 1k more miles than advertised. When I got there, I waited well over an hour to see the car that I already had an appointment for! I waited over 40 minutes just for my rep to come out. After I test drove it, I noticed that they basically damaged the front underside of the car. The excuse? Someone unloaded it incorrectly from the truck. I had to point it out myself and force them to fix it right there or else it would have gone unnoticed. After all that, I noticed the car's ignition was a little slow. This being a BMW 335i, I immediately knew that it could be a common high pressure fuel pump problem. I immediately pointed this out to them but they said they didn't see any problems. I ended up buying it anyway but 3 months later the high pressure fuel pump failed and I took it to Sterling BMW to fix it. It's a good thing the car still had some Manufacturer pre-owned warranty on it that I didn't know about because CARMAX didn't know about it either! No one told me that very crucial detail. Overall, they were kinda shady in what they sold me but I still love the car. read more

Tony Dedios from the Irvine Carmax of the glowing top review is just another used car salesman. You know he's not being upfront when he says that Carmax's goal is to break even when they buy and resell your car. BS! The quote that they offered for our car was just a joke, not a serious offer at all! It was $8,000 below (i.e. 39% below) Kelly Bluebook's value for a car of its condition. At the same time, they have a local car on the website of the same age, make and mileage that they are asking $6,250 above (i.e. 47% above) the Kelly Bluebook value. Carmax's employees would be better off shutting up and stop trying to explain away Carmax's so-called policies. If Carmax's policies need that much explaining, you know it's just a story. Not all consumers were born yesterday. read more

I would be careful if you go to Carmax, especially this location. I went to the Irvine location to get an appraisal for a 3 month old german luxury sedan ($73k+ new) with under 3k miles, in mint condition, that I have to sell because I am moving and can't take it with me. During the 30+ minute appraisal process, I was needlessly chatted up by the used car salesman, and then "The Appraiser" joined the conversation. For the first 5 minutes we were sitting at the desk (prior to being told the appraisal amount), the salesman explained every reason why I should expect less money that I think for my car, explaining every scenario and why my car isn't worth them buying from me. They pulled up a "Truecar" quote for my car which shows the actual cost of my car NEW is $6500 less than the sticker price of my car. I am told that the sticker price from the dealership is not accurate and that dealers can say whatever they want on the sticker (which we remind them comes from the factory) and they insisted several times that the options I had on my car were worthless, and not factored into the price they were willing to pay. After 5 minutes of telling me why my car was not worth them buying from me, I was finally given the appraisal at $5000 below what I owe on the vehicle, which is $17,000+ below the sticker price (the car is 3 months old!). THIS IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS...truthfully I was prepared to take a couple thousand dollar hit, but then the insults began flying! The used car salesman asks "The Appraiser" to explain why the offer is what it is. At first his explanation makes some sense, then he reasserts that the options I have in my car are worth nothing ("a few hundred dollars each" I am told), and they are not factored into the price they are willing to pay for the car. THEN I am told that my car is called "CHEATER LUXURY" because it doesn't have all of the upgrade packages and that its "A SHELL OF A LUXURY CAR". So much for no hassle! I am sitting there being insulted that my car isn't luxurious enough, and that Ford Focus has some of the same options as my car, and that people that come to Carmax have the extra $10k in the bank to buy the car new from the dealerships, so they need to sell it cheaper. I hate to break it to you buddy, but your target audience is EXACTLY the buyer that may be interested in "CHEATER LUXURY", thats why they are shopping at Carmax, for more car than they can afford. Back to my experience, it's one insult after another, until I stand up and ask for my keys back (they had them from the appraisal) and start to walk away. "The Appraiser" has the nerve to say "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you" to which I reply "You've done a good job, I am thoroughly insulted". On my way out, the salesman tells me the quote lasts for 7 days and to call him if I'd like to sell them my car! Are you kidding me? read more

I wish you could give negative stars! By far the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. Every single person that I was in contact with was rude, unprofessional, unhelpful and disrespectful. I have never EVER been treated so poorly. I was under the impression I had purchased the highest warranty when that was obviously not the case. Needless to say I will never be back to a Carmax for any reason. I was sold a lemon from the beginning and trusted that Carmax would take care of me and of course was disappointed. Best of luck with your corporate, customer unfriendly business plan. I will take my business elsewhere and deter any and all friends and family from ever going to Carmax for any reason. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I would never look here to buy a car ever! Their 125 point inspection is a LIE! Proof, Brakes were not checked, safety item, front brakes were completely worn out, car sold with oil leak, I told service it was probably a loose oil filter, they said NO it was a major oil leak and needed to take it to dealer that it was covered under warranty. Took to Allen Cadillac and come to find out it was only a loose oil filter, WOW that's what I told them! Car had major noise problem, Front rack and pinion was history engine bushings were bad, the car was in the shop for one month straight, had to be sent to GM Dealer for repair, they did get me a rental, since they did not have one of the little cars they got me a like kind finally! I am very glad they approved and ended up buying that car back it was so bad, I did have to drive the one car home and they gave it back to me with a dead battery! Oops another FAIL! I figured that was just a fluke and ended up purchasing 2nd from them in Sept 2015, AS BAD AS THE FIRST, Roof Rack suppose to be on car, stated in option list, only took them a month and I do not know how many calls, texts and messages to finally get them to do something, they purchased a factory rack that would not work because of the safety air bag curtains, had to get an after market rack. 3 burnt out lights, 2 recalls which I was made aware, NO oil on dipstick, Coolant at add mark and power steering also at add mark! On top of that the car has a tapping sound when ideling. Would NEVER TRUST THEIR SERVICE EVER! Took to Dodge dealer for all work, three trips to dealer and close to $500.00 in repairs plus roof rack an additional $400.00 and 3 1/2 months later, still have to go to dealer to repair tapping sound which is the lifters that is covered under warranty but perfect example of their 125 point inspection! 1st car in May 2015, 2nd in Sept 2015 and still working on car Feb 2016. This company has bad customer service. I gave a poor review before this one. Their "customer relations" team emailed me and said they would like to help. So I emailed them back because the car I bought still has issues that were not resolved and guess what? Just like the very first day I bought the car, not a good experience. No follow up. No assistance. I have not received any assistance from their GM, not their service team, their sales team now not even their customer relations team. read more

Very poor experience ... the company takes advantage of people. We had a car appraised nine days ago. We had an offer from CarMax of $17,500. We would have sold it within that period, but my wife had a family issue arise. We took the same car in and they had to re-appraise as it was two days out of the seven day window. The car appraised for $16,000. How it lost, theoretically, $1,500 in two days is beyond my (there may have been 50 more miles on the odometer). The appraiser was clueless. I'm sure they have an algorithm that suggests people who bring the car back are hurting. We're blessed in that we don't have any immediate financial issues so we left someone perplexed. But, the fact is, good/honest people who are in tough situations may not have a choice. Carmax should be ashamed and we will never do business there again. read more

Will never go to a tradional car dealer again. Best car buying experience we've ever had. No pressure at all from the sales people. Pretty much sat down, ran my credit and literally showed me on the computer screen the lender matches. It showed the interest rate, required down payment and how much i qualified for etc. So basically i got to choose which one i wanted to go with!!!!!! Wow!!!!! No sales man going back and fourth to the finance manager and trying to haggle with the down payment, rate, payment amount......none of that!! super easy and I am so satisfied! :) Great experience, you gotta check them out. read more

Bought a Mini from them about 7 years ago. Experience at the time was great and the autos looked like they had actually been inspected and cleaned. Just this past weekend, I took a friend there as she was looking to purchase an auto. I could not get over the condition of most the vehicles that I saw there. The cabins were dirty, the bodies were dirty, there were scratches and dings on most of the cars and one car evern had a speaker cover falling off. I recognize that these are used autos, but I also thought Carmax inspected and reconditioned their vehicles before putting them out for sale. The GM or Assistant GM needs to do a little walk on the lot. read more

I was more than a little leery to take my car here after reading some of these reviews. I showed up prepared to put on my tough girl attitude so no one would think I was totally clueless when it comes to buying a car (which I am)! Its been 12 years since I bought a car so not much experience in this department. To my surprise I ended up having a wonderful experience. Karen Botticello was amazing! I can't say much more for the rest of the facility since I only dealt with Karen but she alone made me a fan. She found me an amazing deal on a car and she was a pleasure to work with. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I haven't actually purchased the car yet since it's coming from another location. I'll have to write more after I actually complete the purchase. But so far I have nothing but positive things to say about Karen. She really was great. Hoping I'll have more great things to say next week after buying! read more

I went to trade in my immaculately kept showroom condition Range Rover Sport only to find out that Car Max offered me $4,000 below Kelly Blue Book appraisal value. With no room for negotiation and poor trade in values, I am not sure how Car Max stays in business. I was also working with multiple sales people, all of which were slow at getting back to me or did not get back to me at all. Nice people, but don't sell them your car! For real. I tried to sell them my Mercedes and they tried to rip me off. I understand that they have to make money and all, but their offer was way too low. I'm talking about $3,000 dollars below trade in value. You heard me. I asked them now why would I sell them my car when I could get a lot more for my car at the dealer for a trade in. So I guess this is how they make money. Some older people that don't want the hassle of selling their own car sells them the car for half retail value. Then carmax makes a huge profit. Probably on average $7,000 per car. Not a bad profit margin. Maybe there needs to be more competition. Bottom line don't sell them your car. I don't know what it's like to buy a car from here, but I would be careful. Do you own research and check your car's value. Big waste of time. read more

DO NOT SELL YOUR CAR HERE I have sold this Carmax 2 autos in the past with great results. Yesterday I brought my 2011 E350 in to sell it. They offered me $22,000, ripoff ! This car retails for $31,000 I asked them why it was so low, he said it has high mileage, it has 45000 miles, this is not high mileage it is low mileage. DUMAIS I wanted to make sure I was not off the mark so I took the car to Fletcher Jones to see what they would give me, knowing full well that they would only give me wholesale value. They offered me $23,000, wholesale value and said they would send it to auction. OK so what has happened to CARMAX, they used to buy for an amount between wholesale and retail, made me happy, made them some money. Now they are are trying to screw people on the sale, well not me I am done with these guys. I even called back to speak to a manager and was told they would call me back, which no one ever did. read more

Oh and it continues! After resorting to texting my sales consultant begging him for any sort of assistance regarding my issues, I finally received a call from the service department; nobody in the service department had been aware of my previous calls or messages so it was as if I was starting over. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone assured me he was now going to take care of my issues and he scheduled me to bring my car in to fix my navigation and the maintenance required light. I took their first available appointment which was a few days away, but was happy just to be moving forward with my issues. The morning of my appointment I receive a call at 7:45am from a service technician to let me know that he does not have the part in for my navigation system and is unsure why an appointment was scheduled before a part was in. My appointment was at 8:30am and I had already rearranged my work schedule and found alternate transportation for my children to be taken to school. So now I am back to square one. The service technician wasn't real sure when the part would be in, but he said he would give me a call. I now have features on my car that are unusable that I paid good money for. Please Please Please stay away from CarMax. I wish I would have. ***UPDATE*** Just heard from CarMax that my part is in. The service technician started the call with "Great news! Your SD card is in!" and the proceeded to tell me the first available time they have to install it is a WEEK from now. I had an appointment this morning, but my part was not in, so now I'm waiting a week?!?! The person on the phone had no idea how long the appointment will take, or even who does it!!! He said the 'vendor' would install it! Vendor?!?! I'm bringing my car to CarMax, who is the vendor?!?! He was clueless and after much disappointment he said that he could squeeze me in tomorrow morning. I have NO IDEA who is running CarMax and as this point it looks like nobody is. ***UPDATE #2*** I went into CarMax this morning for my "appointment." I walked into the service area and a nice guy helped me. I told him I was here for my navigation system. He handed me my SD card and that was that. I told him that I had to beg for this appointment and he was confused as to why I even needed an appointment at all. I just needed to pick up the SD card, which I could have done the day it came in. So then why did all the people I talk with before act like it would take hours, need to be "installed", and even one guy went on and on about the vendor who would install it?!??! What the heck is going on over there!?!?!?! read more

I purchased a used vehicle here. In my opinion they lack of professionalism. I brought my car for repairs with the same problem within the first 30 days. I came 2 times, loss of time from work should have been acknowledged. The first time I was there for over 21/2 hours, they didn't have the right part and kept my vehicle for 5 day, the second time it was about 45 minutes waiting and kept it for two additional days. When I asked the repair manager (Briana) about what they would offer for all the inconvenience they had cause me, she said that they didn't compensate for that. I asked to speak to the manager above her and she told me he was going to call me within 24 hours. ( she was lying to me because she also told me that she was not going to be available to talk to me because she was going to be in a meeting until 5 pm but when I got there which was during the time she was supposed to be in the meeting) the manager also never called me back. During our previous conversation I asked her what do you they do when situations like this occurred, she said we are not charging you for the repairs. This is included with any vehicle purchased within 30 days. she added that she was not going to compensate me for anything . She didn't even offered a set of car mats for the inconvenience, or a free oil change. I work in retail and we go out of the way to make the customer happy. I'm very disappointed!! Horrible customer service. Trying to buy two cars and asks if we can test drive a few. Sales person, Mary Jane asks am I buying today. Buying two cars within the week because both mine and my wife's cars were total lossed. But I guess were not serious enough. read more
