Came here to sell my father in laws car. I was asked to answer series of questions including my full name phone number and my address. I agreed to provide my name and contact info but didn't feel comfortable providing my address. I asked if he can appraise the car without my address and and was told" do you want us to appraise your car?" I replied " yes, I would like to get the car appraised. Associate then told the address is needed to build a Carmax profile for me. I assured him he didn't need my address in order to appraise my car. He said to have a nice day in a condescending tone and walked away. I drove 40 minutes to get here and wasted my time. Going to try another dealership in the area. Me and my friend went to buy a car because she was pre-approved and was told that she just needed to pick up the car when Carmax called her. We went, but when we got there they asked for her information once again. No problem there. Once everything was given to her the sales person told her that they would call her back the following day because the bank had to review her application and they were closed. The managers did not bother coming over to inform my friend what was going we felt like we were being stared like we were going to steel something. Such an uncomfortable feeling. Wowww such a bad experience guys! My sister in law and i tried to get a car from them but looks like they did any kind of mistake in this case. It's started from almost 1 hour wait which sometimes I can understand but the workers there wasn't that busy but we were still patient with them. After 2 test drives we actually found something we like (was a Toyota Camry hybrid) and we started the paperwork process that's took over 2 hours, in some point I had to go to pick up my kids from Redwood City, so I left my sister there, not before we asked them couple of time if we can take the car in the same day, they said yes. After 3 hours there the agent is telling my sister "we have an issue with this car and we cannot give it to you" I was so mad on them! At this point we left the store and my sister had to take Uber in the way home without a car. I did an online appraisal on my car, set an appointment, they were right on time, they searched the car for about 30 minutes, and then gave me an offer. They really pleasantly surprised me. I had a great experience selling my vehicle. Every employee I came across were very helpful and friendly. Especially during COVID times, safety was a huge issue for me and I felt perfectly safe throughout the whole process. There was plexiglass and hand sanitizers and even different holders for "sanitized" and "unsanitized" pens. I did a little research on the resale value of my car before my appointment with CarMax. I checked in for my appointment inside and they quickly assisted me. The appraisal process was extremely quick about 30 minutes. They gave me an offer and told me I had 1 week to consider their offer. Their offer was definitely fair given my research online. I returned to CarMax a couple of days later and the actual sale process took about another 30 minutes. They handled all the paperwork with the DMV, I signed some papers and they handed me a check. This is a long story, bare with me ..... - A month ago we purchased what appeared to be a well maintained and loved Chevy Camero from this location. Everything was perfect, except the tires. They had what looked like Texas size gouges in two of them from someone obviously flying into a curb at some ungodly speed . We mentioned it to our salesman who then told us it was safe and good to go ...... Well, the car had a different opinion because the tire pressure light came on as soon as we drove it home. Rather then taking it back my partner notified the dealer then took it to an outside shop for a second opinion. This individual assured us that the tires were not safe and that they needed to be replaced. So, back to the dealership we went with paperwork from this tire shop in hand. The GM was dead set on not paying for it, then paying for it but only replacing two tires & following that they would replace all 4 with tires with the cheapest they could find. We said no thank you and continued to push for the tires we purchased the car with... Finally he came back and said they'd pay for half, which left us putting $550 into a car we had purchased 48 hours before. But it was over ..... Until last weekend when we took the car on a road trip to share some exciting news with family. Halfway down, While pulling into the grapevine the car began to envelope itself with smoke and smelled like it was ON FIRE. Completely shocked we parked, jumped out and began calling tow trucks & mechanics until realizing it would be hours of standing in 105 degree weather... instead of waiting We bit the bullet and drove the now not smoking vehicle to the closest car max and just prayed we made it. Upon pulling the car began to smoke and the gentleman working tells us it smells like burning clutch. At this point we're beyond confused. The car is now a month old and my wife has exclusively driven manual vehicles. There is no way we did this after a month of light use. Yet they came back, said it was a wear / tear item and may not be covered under the extended Warranty we purchased but they would do some research. After 3 hours they put us in a loaner and sent us on our way, with the understanding that the car could not leave the state. So we checked into an open hotel, canceled all of our hotels/ plans that had been in the works for months and hung out for 4 days while we waited to hear from someone. Finally they get back to us and let us know that they will cover the cost but can't guarantee when it will be down. Don't get me wrong, We were beyond appreciative of these guys. The car was not purchased from their location and they still went to bat for us .... BUT now we have to make the 6 hour drive back when it is done. Which could be in two weeks or a month .... Our thoughts are that none of this should have happened & the question of who would par for either of the issues never should have came into play. My advice, always do your research and always get an outside opinion. We lost hundreds of dollars in non refundable hotels cancellations & spent hours stressing over how we may have to fork over $2000 for a clutch after just giving them $6000 for a down payment and $550 for tires ..... None of this was worth having the car. read more

What a waste of time it was to bring in my vehicle for an "appraisal" to potentially sell my Toyota Camry to carmax. After my experience there, I won't ever consider them for anything. So I had scheduled an online appointment for 1:30pm today. I did arrive 10 minutes late, completely my fault. When I spoke with someone, they could not find my information in their system. So I had to waste time giving them all my information again, even though I had already entered it twice online. They obviously have issues with their systems, and should hire someone like Oracle or Palantir to fix what is broken. Even though I had booked my appointment online (thank God I printed out the appointment info), I never received the confirmation e-mail I was promised, so who knows what the hell is going on with their enterprise system. Whatever it is, it sucks big time, they need to get their sh!t together. I was told it would be about 15 minutes before someone could see me. Huh? I had an appointment scheduled, and could see on their large monitor behind the counter that there was not another appointment scheduled until 4pm. Facepalm. So I waited 30 minutes. No one came to my car, no one advised me when someone would perform an "appraisal", nothing. I got fed up with my time being wasted and left. About 10 minutes later, I got a call from a strange number I did not recognize. When I listened to the voicemail later in the day, it was someone from carmax looking for me, telling me I would have to re-schedule the "appraisal". Wtf? How does a business with "customer service" this crappy stay in business? It felt like going to some inefficient government office, not a business that wanted to compete for my business or provide even a decent experience. At that point I'm glad I explored other avenues and didn't have to deal with these losers any longer. Change to Carmax and my little girls determination to get the best deal she located a great car with low mileage at a very decent price. We were able to take the car for a solo test drive and were able to take it to a nearby mechanic who gave it a inspection and determined that it was a great year. Looking at these reviews, I was a little leary of coming down to CarMax, but a few of my car savvy friends suggested I do so for two reasons: a) Hassle-free car appraisal. General consensus is that one can get a better deal from CarMax than trading in to a dealer. (Less than you prob could get selling to a private party, but that would involve much more legwork.) b) A chance to test-drive a bunch of different lightly used cars. I think it truly depends on who your sales associate is. So let me highly suggest you request GIAN DELEON, who was terrific. Knowledgable and low-pressure and genuinely comfortable and fun to shop for cars with. She put in the time and energy to get any information I needed about the cars I was interested in. Horrible experience. They get someone who's looking for a job and consider them a Certified appraiser. They claim my rocker panels needed a paint job. It's a 3 yr old bmw w only one paint chip from road debris on the front lip of the bumper. 4 series BMW's tend to have a low lip on the front so it's kinda expected. Took it to a body shop and they said there's absolutely nothing wrong with rocker panels, and the chip in the front bumper would cost $225 to repair, since it's a quick job. They're a body shop looking to make money, so they probably would've ran with the rocker panel idea to charge some more since it's a fairly cheap price. Since they're honest unlike carmax they didn't!! I called Carmax today and the male receptionist. Lmao. Sorry I had to laugh at that, he tells me they won't change the offer, begins screaming at me, so I told him just like Valerie the appraiser he too doesn't know Sh¡t! So I bought my car from their San Jose store and the car was fine until 2 months after I noticed it was leaking oil. Apparently it was leaking the whole time so It was low until the emergency light came on. Brought my car into the carmax in Colma now it's been 4 times over the span of 8 months having the car in and out for the same problem. Over and over again they don't fix it right or put the right part and it starts to leak again. Now today I brought it in after waiting a week for the right part to come in and they told me it would be 2 hours, and they just told me now the part they got in was wrong and I would have to wait until tomorrow. How can they get the right one that fast but not the first time ? Carmax was the place I went to purchase a car that would fit my family. I was a little skeptical at first, from thw reviews that I have read, but surprisingly, I like how well they communicated. Wayne was the representative that helped me thru the process, it went smoothly, pretty relaxing,. He basically went tyhru the process and got down to add ons, if I needed it or not, and wasnt forceful of anything. I had chosen a sedan car, but was also checking out a compact suv. When I arrived the sedan was already waiting for me to be driven, and when I opened to Wayne about my curiosity with the SUV, he said we could drive it around. And we did for both, he laid down the odds between the two, and it came down for me to choose the Suv instead. He did not pressure me or anything, but gave me a better view on how the 2 cars performed and showed me their history report. I forgot the person at finance but she was amazing as well, clarifying all the finance part what I understood and not. She was even the one who advised me to check the car, and how to use the warranty. I do know little about cars but I did what she advised and checked everything, and noticed some things, and they just advised me to schedule and appointment and I did. I had to go back twice, and ran more test and ended up my car needing to have the whole seat replaced, which they covered and loaned me another car. Team from the mechanics were Mico, Jeff, Jose and Miguel were very open and entertained my annoying questions, but I was really impressed by their patience. They keep you up to date on everything, and as much as possible call you for it. I love my experience with Carmax, and I hope to purchase a car with them again soon in the future. We as customers, should also have the responsibility to check our cars that we purchased, so we can still use the 30 days warranty. We shouldnt just automatically assumed everything will be fine. We shouldnt push the cars immediately to its limit and wait for it to break out. We have to promote, and do preventive maintenance for our vehicles to last longer. The check engine light came on yesterday from a car I bought a year ago. I called Carmax. They gave me the number to their towing service. The towing service never came after two hours. I called them again to see what was happening, and there was a rooster crowing as loud as it possibly could in the background as I was trying to explain to this person on the phone that I needed my car still towed. He made the experience as painless as possible. I have been looking for a commuter car to get to San Francisco for work. My baby's daddy liked the one in Las Vegas and told me to check them out. I started looking a found a Chevy Malibu that I really liked with low miles and at a great price. After going thru the pre-approval process on-line, I went into the store to purchase the car. Although the car I wanted was no longer available, Charles did help me find the another car at a better price. I was hesitant about the car being white in color when I was really set on gray, but I do not regret making the decision. Well, love the idea of a big lot filled with cars and no pressure sales people breathing down your neck. We arrived and were nicely greeted, given the lay of the land and started looking. Occasionally reps would stop by to see how we were doing, all great. We picked out a vehicle and found a rep to take a test drive and ask questions. The rep knew no answers and had to go back in to the office several times to get the answers. The website was down so we could not use it, or the rep, to pull up the vehicle. After the test drive we decided to buy after our questions were answered, which requires sitting in the office for over and hr while the rep kept running over from the supervisor to Ask everything and have him look it up. Would seem the reps should have the same access to whatever computer program the manager had access too, to do their jobs. Then we started the process of having our existing vehicle appraised for trade in. That was to take 20-30 min based on the Vehicles listed on the board in the queue. Unfortunately representatives had not been putting the cars in the queue and so that process took us two hours and 12 minutes. After all of that the appraisal price for our 2006 vehicle was $1000 and the representative explain to us why it was not worth anything. We opted to take the car home and sell it privately which we did for $3500. At this time the paperwork was finally started to purchase the vehicle. The rep we were working with told us that we should get a rate of about 3% based on our excellent credit rating. After 45 minutes of paperwork they came back with a percentage point of 6.5%. We told him that we would come back tomorrow and discuss this with our Bank who would clearly give us a better rating but as it was Sunday we could not contact them. His recommendation was to go ahead and take the percentage point so that we could take the vehicle with us And then we could contact our bank tomorrow and switch over to them. He explained that it would be a very simple process and we would not need to do anything other than contact the bank and have them buy out the loan. Unfortunately he was completely wrong and the process was going to take an enormous amount of time. The representative also put our wrong address on the paperwork so the only option was to start the entire process all over again and re-purchase the vehicle, going back to Carmax and starting again. Unfortunately this was not an option and so we were stuck with the Carmax lone I felt like this was really a big bait and switch situation here and the representative did not seem to care one way or another when we called him back to tell him. At this point we had spent four hours at Carmax and still have not started the official paperwork, which took another hour and 45 minutes before we left the lot. We arrived at Carmax at 10 in the morning and ended up leaving just after they close the doors, the process was extremely long, the representative who we worked with was very much un educated about many things And the loan officer was equally terrible at her job. we were told by several people they would contact us in the week to see how things were going but we have never heard from Carmax again. We have tripled up our auto payments and will clear this up as soon as possible and will not be doing any future business with Carmax. I suggest you spend a lot more time & energy training your staff and less on your commercials. On a good note, since you have so many of them on the air it gives me the opportunity to tell anybody within ear shot, when they come on, to stay away from Carmax read more

Wish I could give this location negative stars... paid for a car to be transferred from another state was emailed that the vehicle made it but no one bothered to call. After calling and getting a half ass update on three different occasions one by phone another by actually driving 40 minutes ro the store and another through text I decided to call corporate. After the call with corporate I felt like we would get better service but that didn't happen. After being contacted by Grace we thought things would get rolling but the bs continued. She let us know that they knew we called corporate and the service got even more disappointing. We were told not to bother wasting our time driving down there without the paperwork her boss requested. I know people personally who work at carmax at a different location and was informed that what they were requesting was not required and they were probably upset that we called corporate. I have a vehicle from carmax so I know they were full of it with the bizzare paperwork they wanted. A cell phone bill?? Two forms of Income my w2 and check stub?? I will never shop at a company who profiles and discriminates customer because they don't know how to give good customer service. I work In customer service and have for 11 years and what me and my partner went through was unacceptable and down right unprofessional. Beware of this location at all cost!! unfortunately I have to give 3 stars, it took more than nine days to get my car which I love but the communication was terrible, I started with one person and then ended up speaking to several, everytime I had to re explain things, then when I went to finalize paperwork which was only supposed to take five minutes took 2.5 hours because the person I was dealing with for the 2nd time had to go home for a pet emergency, so then someone who just started helped me which took the 2. 5 hours and to top it off I didn't get the pretty bow on the car experience, so I drove home and the next day guess what, my car wouldn't start, they never let it run while it sat so I had to use roadside assistance on day one. I also had to miss two days of work because I had to sit at the dealership for so long I wouldn't make it to work on time. It wasn't a pleasant experience for me. read more

I been looking for this particular car for a few months, has everything I was looking for in the vehicle (they have other panameras but non of which is fully loaded like the 1 I purchased). I took the day off work thinking I can make it back in time, I got to the dealership @ 10am it was about 3pm by time I left with my vehicle (not a problem there were other things that made it take that long and I know there's a process for everything) I get on the freeway and halfway home I get a flat tire, went to a tire place and they fixed it. I get home and was showing my friends the vehicle and I open the passenger door and closes it, then a button fell off (no big deal figure I can glue it later or something) drove the car to work Friday and on the way home a service light came on that said chassis system fault. Carmax service was closed so I look up what that light means, all the forums I found said stop the car immediately and get the car towed. So I park the car for the weekend. Finally Monday comes and I reach out to CarMax and advised them what was going on, the service rep was able to get me into a shop in SF, so I take the day off to take the car in, turns out they didn't have the technology to service a porsche. So Tuesday I was told to pick up the car and take it to a porsche dealer, so I take another day off work to take it to porsche in fremont. They did the diagnostic and sent the quote to carmax, turns out the entire front suspension is aftermarket. $13,500 in repairs. Carmax advised me that because of the price they would have to get approval from higher up. I understand that's the process but it took a few days. The car is still at the dealership and it is now July 10th he porsche dealership service advisor has been fantastic, michael has been extremely communicative with me. All I wanted to do is get my car fixed, it's been almost a month and I keep getting the run around. Been talking to carmax and they offer a refund of my money or another vehicle but they don't have another vehicle that is similar to what I purchased. Carmax did give me a loaner vehicle in the meantime. The issue is, at the end of the day I'm stuck without a car unless I purchase another car from CarMax, my trade in was already sold. It seems as if carmax wanted the porsche back so they can sell it at auction so they don't take a loss, I'm kind of forced to buy another car from them unless I get the cash on the spot and go directly and buy another car. So carmax doesn't take any losses here the only person screws over is me. I've already taken 3 wdays off work, I don't have the vehicle I purchased and I'm going to have to take more time off at work just to get another vehicle. read more

I would, like many others want to give a zero star review of this carmax location. In april 2019, a vehicle of mines was deemed a total loss and I was in need of a new and efficient car. Sooo I came to this carmax. I was not hassled like advertised however, my TIME AND MY MONEY was truly wasted. I purchased a chevy volt for 18,100.57 in full cash. The same day I had signed my purchase, my sales person named (Grace C) said "Oh theres a check engine light in the car that won't turn off". Time passed as I continued paperwork and she returned saying "once you go over 25mph , it should turn off". As you could've guessed, that was a white lie. The car was making very aggressive noises when I came to a stop and it started to become unreliable when another car was in front of me. I brought my then purchased volt back to the Serramonte location with my concern with the TP light. A worker named Jeff in the service dept. helped take a look at the car and noticed the TP light and the abruptive braking. He then told me "Have you ever noticed that? And how did you leave the lot like this?" I told him that Grace convinced me it was normal regenerative braking noises from the EV. He then told me he "wasn't comfortable letting me leave the lot like this". I was then in a loaner car for another 2 weeks. My volts back mounting of the transmission was found to be loose and thats why every time I breaked, it was not accurate. I picked up my "fixed" volt on June 28th and TP light came back on on July 1st. I had to drive to Sacramento with the TP light on and the abruptive noises returned. Additionally, I found the car tailfishing a lot on the freeway. A few days pass and on 4th of July I drove to San Jose. At 12:30pm, that night, I was ready to head home but I needed to put gas in my car as it was well below the last quarter. As I pulled into the gas station, my car seemed to have buckled in the front and suddenly I couldn't pull up to the gas pump ‍. (On 4th July 2019 y'all). A message displayed saying "loss of propulsion" I had AAA roadside service however because of my location, I had to wait till 4am to finally get towed & settled into a near by hotel. The next morning I called the San Jose location and they were willing to send out a tow truck and get me into another loaner car ASAP. When the tow truck driver arrived, he inspected my car and told me that my front axle on the left tire had been completely disconnected. The tower had a very arrogant/know it all attitude and was trying to tell me "You must've have hit something very hard" in order for that to have happened. Everything ended up working out safely, except me getting a replacement car from the original total loss. When I returned to this location, the sales manager Heiu had not much to say except what was by the books. At that moment I realized, that carmax is just like any other dealer and could not have felt anymore humanly degraded in my life as a interested/paying customer. They are going to send back every dime I payed however, I am still car-less. The main intent behind this review is to let future customers know to STILL be careful when buying a car for any reason. Instead of me, it could have someones abuela, if not at the gas station it would have been the freeway . Horrible experience. I made and appointment for a change of oil but at the day of my appointment they called me 45 mins before the appointment and was told that all the technicians were sick. I tried to make another appointment but I was told that the next appointment was in about 4 days. Really? And when I told them that I wanted the service they told me to go and look for someone else. Like jiffy's lube or something like that. I called that unprofessional because they seems that they don't want to do any business or maybe my change of oil wasn't important for them. And when I asked to speak to the manager he came and told me the same thing. If I was in a hurry I can take my car somewhere else. It was going to be my first time using their service but after that I would NEVER come back there. I reached out to the corporate offices and costumer service and I'm still waiting for a call back or a email. I booked an appointment for Thursday at 7pm. by 7:25pm they had completed the inspection. By 8pm they had already handed me the check for the same amount of the instant offer. No surprises. Wow. Having come from a really horrible dealer with bad service, CarMax is the dream come true. From start to finish, the service I received was impeccable. I called Tuesday night to ask about appraising my car and Robert had all the answers for me and immediately scheduled an appointment the next day at a time convenient for me. He was courteous over the phone and gave me answers to all my questions. For the appraisal, Loi (Christan) made sure that I would understand the process and explained to me why I was getting the price for my car. He was great and although I haven't sold my car yet, he gave me alternatives and was friendly throughout the entire hour I was there.
