    The New Mom Mobile
    Courtney B.

Okay, Yelp Fam.... for those of you who have asked what my new mom mobile for the Things are, here it is.... The day prior to Mothers Day this year, I went to CarMax to get a new vehicle as my current one is now too small to accommodate The Things. I have purchased a vehicle from this location before, so I was familiar with the location layout and process. I was in the market for a specific car. Therefore, when I arrived, I advised the check-in attendant that I would only be interested in one vehicle. I was assigned to the sales agent Quen. While I waited for Quen to finish up with his customers, I went out to the lot to look at the vehicle. Once Quen was able to find me outside, we had a quick conversation about what I was looking for and got 'right to it'. Test Drive Quen made a copy of my license and reviewed my insurance, and provided me with the keys to the vehicle I requested. Did ya'll know that CarMax no longer requires the Sales Agent or anyone to be in the car with you when you go for a test drive? I took the vehicle for about 20 minutes, making a stop at Burger King Drive through for Thing Two and taking a quick drive on I-35. Purchase When I came back in, I started the paperwork for the new vehicle and although I was pre-approved by my selected leneder, CarMax gave me 1/2 a percent lower interest rate that what my financial institution approved me for. I ended up going with the CarMax finance option at a whopping 5.48% (these interest rates these days, even with excellent credit, make me ill). I wanted to make a down-payment with my AMEX to get some points, but CarMax only allows cash, check, or Zelle as downpayment options (where they do that). A CarMax limited warranty is included in a purchase and covers you in case of a mechanical breakdown. Additional options, such as the CarMax MaxCare warranty, may also be purchased as an add-on. This extended car warranty option offers more comprehensive coverage than its included limited warranty, which only covers you up to 30 days or 1,500 miles. Overall CarMax offers a good experience to buy a car and decent pricing compared to other major competitors. Customer service is also good, with many support systems in place. However, with CarMax, you can not negotiate the price that it quotes you for your vehicle. This means that the price you're quoted for your vehicle from CarMax is the most the dealership will pay for your vehicle. I didn't sell my car here as they 'low balled' me and instead kept my car to sell to a friend in a private sale for a higher price. It's now been 2 months that I've had the new vehicle, and other than a recall by the manufacturer, I've had no issues.

They told me nothing was wrong. Here is my car sitting in their parking lot on its axels.

I purchased my car from Carmax and after just six months, the suspension failed. I brought it in for repairs, but they kept my car for another six months and still couldn't resolve the issue. Eventually, they forced me to sell it back to them at a $10,000 loss. To make matters worse, they didn't even provide me with a loaner vehicle until four months later, long after I had already bought a new car. I swear, I will never set foot in a Carmax store again, and I strongly advise you to do the same. They sell over priced junk auction cars. See photo as it sits in the Carmax parking after they told me nothing was wrong with it. SMH

I'm not sure about the rest of Carmax, but Terry M. is awesome! He's sold our friend group many vehicles, and some are repeat buyers. He is a straight shooter and has helped many of our troops from Ft Hood (Cavazos) get into a new vehicle. I appreciate what he does for our community and for the pride he takes in his job. I will definitely look here first for Terry on my next purchase.

Fast & Friendly staff! No haggle and they're fast in processing their finance, and paperwork's which makes it easier to purchase the car. They open till 10 pm. Plenty of parking, free coffee and water in the lobby. Very clean facility.

A friend who had previously sold a not running junk car for $500 to Austin Junk Car Buyers,…read moresuggested I call them to get rid of my 90's Chevy cargo van when I told him the other offer I had was only $280. When I called I was told they would give me $340 (which beat the other offer I had and who was going to pick up the van the same day) and so made plans to meet them to pick it up and I called off the other company canceling their pick up. Over the phone they asked about the condition and I told them it was running with good tires and that the only thing I knew that was wrong was that the engine had a knock in it. When they arrived, the guy asked if I knew of anything wrong with it, which I said the only thing I knew about was the knock in the engine. He told me because of that, the engine was bad and that they wouldn't take it. He started it up anyway and looked at the engine while it was running. After he told me he couldn't take it, I expressed the fact that I was stressed and just wanted it gone since I just called off the other company. He then offered me $100 to take it, which I didn't agree to since I had the another company offering me more than that, so he just left. I felt like they wasted my time and shouldn't have told me a price over the phone knowing about the knock and then show up and try to offer me $100 when they knew I had a better offer from another company. It was easy to call and talk to them and they showed up on time, but now I have to call back the company who originally offered me more and set up another time to have them come get it....which is a huge waste of time and frustrating. I will admit I am not good at negotiations and didn't have a guy to help me out with this, so in the end I feel like I got hustled?!? Maybe that is how this works with these kinds of cars, but I wish they would have told me that the knock in the engine was a deal breaker on the phone so I could have gone with the other company and be done with this already. It looks like they have a lot of other great reviews, and I don't usually ever write negative reviews, but this deal could have been avoided and has caused me enough frustration and time that I felt compelled to write to suggest getting a set price over the phone or clarifying if that is a done deal, or if they might look at the car and change their minds on the spot.
