    The New Mom Mobile
    Courtney B.

Okay, Yelp Fam.... for those of you who have asked what my new mom mobile for the Things are, here it is.... The day prior to Mothers Day this year, I went to CarMax to get a new vehicle as my current one is now too small to accommodate The Things. I have purchased a vehicle from this location before, so I was familiar with the location layout and process. I was in the market for a specific car. Therefore, when I arrived, I advised the check-in attendant that I would only be interested in one vehicle. I was assigned to the sales agent Quen. While I waited for Quen to finish up with his customers, I went out to the lot to look at the vehicle. Once Quen was able to find me outside, we had a quick conversation about what I was looking for and got 'right to it'. Test Drive Quen made a copy of my license and reviewed my insurance, and provided me with the keys to the vehicle I requested. Did ya'll know that CarMax no longer requires the Sales Agent or anyone to be in the car with you when you go for a test drive? I took the vehicle for about 20 minutes, making a stop at Burger King Drive through for Thing Two and taking a quick drive on I-35. Purchase When I came back in, I started the paperwork for the new vehicle and although I was pre-approved by my selected leneder, CarMax gave me 1/2 a percent lower interest rate that what my financial institution approved me for. I ended up going with the CarMax finance option at a whopping 5.48% (these interest rates these days, even with excellent credit, make me ill). I wanted to make a down-payment with my AMEX to get some points, but CarMax only allows cash, check, or Zelle as downpayment options (where they do that). A CarMax limited warranty is included in a purchase and covers you in case of a mechanical breakdown. Additional options, such as the CarMax MaxCare warranty, may also be purchased as an add-on. This extended car warranty option offers more comprehensive coverage than its included limited warranty, which only covers you up to 30 days or 1,500 miles. Overall CarMax offers a good experience to buy a car and decent pricing compared to other major competitors. Customer service is also good, with many support systems in place. However, with CarMax, you can not negotiate the price that it quotes you for your vehicle. This means that the price you're quoted for your vehicle from CarMax is the most the dealership will pay for your vehicle. I didn't sell my car here as they 'low balled' me and instead kept my car to sell to a friend in a private sale for a higher price. It's now been 2 months that I've had the new vehicle, and other than a recall by the manufacturer, I've had no issues.

They told me nothing was wrong. Here is my car sitting in their parking lot on its axels.

I purchased my car from Carmax and after just six months, the suspension failed. I brought it in for repairs, but they kept my car for another six months and still couldn't resolve the issue. Eventually, they forced me to sell it back to them at a $10,000 loss. To make matters worse, they didn't even provide me with a loaner vehicle until four months later, long after I had already bought a new car. I swear, I will never set foot in a Carmax store again, and I strongly advise you to do the same. They sell over priced junk auction cars. See photo as it sits in the Carmax parking after they told me nothing was wrong with it. SMH

I'm not sure about the rest of Carmax, but Terry M. is awesome! He's sold our friend group many vehicles, and some are repeat buyers. He is a straight shooter and has helped many of our troops from Ft Hood (Cavazos) get into a new vehicle. I appreciate what he does for our community and for the pride he takes in his job. I will definitely look here first for Terry on my next purchase.

I normally like to experience a place a few times before giving a five star but to be honest, I don't wanna wait till I go back to Carmax which is scheduled later this week. First of all, I want to share with you when I walked in to Carmax. It was very open door friendly . It was not the typical dealership that I've been associated with for the last eight years and now looking to transition into a new vehicle. I had not done a lot of research, but I knew I needed to do some work and get into the dealership was on my list today. When I walked in at the front desk, the lady was very helpful and informative on how the process works. She shared that it would be about an hour away, so I told her what I was looking for and she directed me to the walk area for the style of cards that I was looking for. I was so excited to see that I had so much walking to do in so many choices. The price ranges on the vehicles were quite flexible, and I would consider given the dealership a try. Sometimes we go into our car dealerships with certain expectations and pre-consumed experiences that have continued, but I would tell you that at Carmax they are so different. I had an amazing time with my representative which is named Brandon. He made me feel comfortable. he really asked good questions to confirm what I really wanted. We finalize what we were going to do and we moved forward with the process looking to find the right vehicle, I did a few test drives where they allow you to drive around for 20 minutes and test the car out yourself. That was a great experience because you technically chauffeuring someone that is a stranger in a un purchased car and you not able to be yourself. I drive alone quite a bit so I had the opportunity to play some music and park. Pull over and get on the freeway. Did a turnaround back-and-forth on 35 highway. I was test driving the vehicles, Brandon continue to work to find the right car in the right price range and the ability to transfer cars from one area to another In Texas. I'm sure that's probably nationwide as well but we did not need to discuss it because we found what we needed in Houston. I look forward to finalizing my paperwork this week with Carmax and I'm excited about the great coverage that I have and protection in buying this new car. Lastly, I'll say that I just really enjoyed my day at Carmax, yes, I was there for a few hours, but my time was well spent and I appreciate the quality and care in the service that I received from Brandon. There were also quite a few gentlemen that helped during the process when needed and I appreciate the staff overall how they worked as a team to assure that what I needed it was provided by Brandon's colleagues.

DO NOT TRY TO SELL YOUR CAR HERE! They will lie and make up issues with your vehicle so they can low ball you. Waste of time.

When I called I was told they would give me $340 (which beat the other offer I had and who was going to pick up the van the same day) and so made plans to meet them to pick it up and I called off the other company canceling their pick up. Over the phone they asked about the condition and I told them it was running with good tires and that the only thing I knew that was wrong was that the engine had a knock in it. When they arrived, the guy asked if I knew of anything wrong with it, which I said the only thing I knew about was the knock in the engine. He told me because of that, the engine was bad and that they wouldn't take it. He started it up anyway and looked at the engine while it was running. After he told me he couldn't take it, I expressed the fact that I was stressed and just wanted it gone since I just called off the other company. He then offered me $100 to take it, which I didn't agree to since I had the another company offering me more than that, so he just left. I felt like they wasted my time and shouldn't have told me a price over the phone knowing about the knock and then show up and try to offer me $100 when they knew I had a better offer from another company. It was easy to call and talk to them and they showed up on time, but now I have to call back the company who originally offered me more and set up another time to have them come get it....which is a huge waste of time and frustrating. I will admit I am not good at negotiations and didn't have a guy to help me out with this, so in the end I feel like I got hustled?!? Maybe that is how this works with these kinds of cars, but I wish they would have told me that the knock in the engine was a deal breaker on the phone so I could have gone with the other company and be done with this already. It looks like they have a lot of other great reviews, and I don't usually ever write negative reviews, but this deal could have been avoided and has caused me enough frustration and time that I felt compelled to write to suggest getting a set price over the phone or clarifying if that is a done deal, or if they might look at the car and change their minds on the spot.

I inquired about a Bronco on their lot, I'm interested in the vehicle but take a week to think on it. Then I decide to hire a pre purchase inspector ($200) to come inspect the vehicle. It was out of state so I couldn't check it out myself. This process took close to another week. Inspection was alright other than the vehicle needing all fluids serviced, needed a good detail and only 1 key fob present. Fast forward to the weekend when I got approved by my bank for the loan and right as I'm waiting at the bank to pull the trigger on my down payment my car salesman informs me that "another customer is on this vehicle now and it's first come first serve." Then stops replying to me for over an hour. With that logic as their policy they should have sent the walk in away as I was on this vehicle for TWO weeks and all we needed to do to close the sale was get a contract in motion. It was the sales manager Jesse Morales who against the car salesmen's better judgment was entertaining the walk in over me when I was literally at the bank ready to proceed. I go over his head and get in touch with finance manager who then helped me start the process of purchasing so the customer priority was now me and the walk in was turned away. Throughout the 3rd week there's a lot of back and fourth between my bank and the dealership - bank won't cut a check until dealership can provide title but the title was still in previous customer's name and takes weeks for title to clear. Bank won't take on the risk of a car that doesn't have clear proof of title and dealership won't accept any form of deposit to hold the vehicle. At first I was discussing options with the finance manager and I can hear Jesse in the background making snarky remarks like "absolutely not," "unacceptable," "that's not happening..." just absolutely unwilling to work with the customer and audibly rude. He then proceeds to take over the phone call and is yelling at me in combative tone pretty much like an irritated father scolding a child. I understand the need to be firm with customers but there is a difference between firm and disrespectful. It made me think "wow does this asshole speak this way to all of his customers?" Mind you this phone call was interrupting my work day so I tell them I need time to think. I take the rest of the day to think about the only other option presented to me which was to go through their lender and get stuck with a criminal rate (and assume responsibility in the event the title didn't clear for some reason). But I realized I could just refinance with my credit union later. Next day I call back to have them run my credit and my car salesman has to awkwardly tell me that they sold the car out from under me to someone else. So I guess first come first serve is a pick and choose policy over at Auto Nation Austin. If you happen to encounter a situation that tests sale manager Jesse's patience he will be bitter and rude to you. And then sell the car you worked hard to research, pre inspect ($), and get approved for to somebody else. Kick rocks buddy and have the day you deserve.
