I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and was promptly greeted by a Car Max employee. He asked what we were looking for and told us where we could find that type of vehicle to peruse ourselves. We hadn't pre-registered, so I had to join a waiting list to be assisted. After walking the aisles myself to see that 40% of the vehicles I was looking at were had red stickers on them that said "this vehicle is not for sale" and realized that the vehicles they did have are overpriced, I was done and left. As I walked though the lobby to leave, I noticed at least 4 or 5 employees playing on their phones or just sitting around doing absolutely nothing. Nobody said a word to me as I left their location. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS CARMAX - GO TO THE SOUTH LOCATION. The difference in customer service is incomparable. Bernice (pronounced BER-KNEE-KA) was shockingly heartless & I'm concerned about her, because no one who's happy acts as hateful as she did (for absolutely no reason - yikes). Two years before Covid my elderly father almost died of the flu. He survived with serious, lasting damage to his heart & lungs. To say he's high-risk for Covid is an understatement & his doctors have told us to continue to take strict precautions. He lives with us. I was looking to get an appraisal on my current QX60 & solo test drive a newer QX60. I booked the appts online & confirmed multiple times via phone that I'd easily be able to do both without requiring me to go inside or get near anyone. I text to confirm I was there for the appt.. After waiting outside a while, I asked (from a distance) an appraiser if he'd please let Jeff know I was here. (Jeff was who I'd spoken with on the phone & he's who booked the appts.) After a few minutes Bernice comes out, calls my name, & says, "Ok, you can come inside!" I said, "I'm so sorry, but I can't go inside. I'd discussed this with Jeff before I made these appts. My dad almost died of the flu, he's VERY high risk for Covid, he lives with me, so I can't go inside." Nothing I said registered in her eyes for even a moment. Not one tiny drop of awareness or empathy in regard to what I'd just told her about my dad, or what I'd been told on the phone about how the processes could easily all happen outside. Bernice then snaps, "Well, you HAVE to come inside. I have to get your info & I'm NOT walking back & forth." Wow...ok...yowza... So...I said, "I'm confused. You already have all the info I was told you need. I followed the link I was sent via email & uploaded my drivers license & insurance to the site this morning. I'd really appreciate your understanding & help. I'm just trying to keep my dad alive." It's hard to accurately describe just how vicious her attitude was (and I'm sadly not exaggerating when I use that word), because it was surreal to have another "human being" looking back at me with such a non-existent level of empathy. It was worse than indifference, because she had such deep anger (I'm clueless as to why), & me asking for her help & nicely explaining to her about my dad seemed to make her angrier. I'm totally stumped as to why she was so angry & unwilling to help me...especially given that it would have been so easy for her to help me. She spun around, walked inside, came back & said, "Here is the phone number to ONLINE. You need to call them. We can't do it." I asked (still in a nice tone, but I was totally shocked by how unnecessarily abrasive she was continuing to be), "Online is how I started this process. I'm so confused, you already have all of my info. You really can't help me?" She said, "I'm NOT walking back & forth." She started to take a few steps towards me to hand me the paper. I stepped back, because I still have to keep my distance from people & said, "Can you please put the paper on the ground so I can take a picture to confirm if that's the number I originally called?" She scoffed at me, turned around with the paper, & started to walk away. I asked again, "Can I take a picture of the piece of paper?" She shook her head, kept the paper, & just kept walking without looking back. Even typing this is surreal, because her anger & lack of compassion were so intense. Felt like I stepped into an evil Twilight Zone. It's tragic how some "people" just don't care about others. The GREAT NEWS: I went to CarMax SOUTH! They did the appraisal OUTSIDE, had the vehicle transferred from the north location & I picked it up for a test drive OUTSIDE, & I bought that car OUTSIDE. No one at the south location made me feel as if it was even a minor inconvenience for them to meet me outside for everything. A 20-minute test drive is not long enough to adequately test a car to buy. And then if you want more time, you need a declaration page from insurance and to sign your life away. I paid to have a 2017 Z06 Corvette brought in after speaking with the representative at the store where it was located. I was assured it was in excellent condition. I inspected the vehicle when it arrived only to find all four wheels with curb rash and the $2300.00 carbon fiber front spoiler (factory equipment) burned completely thru and barely hanging on. It was deformed and even had 2-3" long splinters sticking off the front end. Carmax refused to replace the spoiler, even thou it's barely hanging on and could fly off going down the road. This is a safety issue that could cause further damage and an accident. This is the worst example of customer service I have ever seen. I was ready to buy a $70,000.00 car and you offer no monetary help to assure my safety while driving the vehicle. No discount and no offer to replace. Worst customer service experience of my life. I sold my my car to them over a month ago, and due to some paperwork, payment was delayed. I was assuming a week and patiently waited for several. But now, a month and a half later, I still have not been paid and no one seems to be able to help. They never even reached out to give me an update! This location NEVER answers the phone. I've called 8+ times in the last 2 weeks alone and have been left waiting for hours to eventually reach a human that also cannot contact the location either. I'm CC'd on multiple emails that get me no where. At this point, they've essentially stolen my car. I've been without a car in a new state for 45 days having to borrow, uber or bus because they refuse to answer my call and resolve the matter. My son totaled his car so we were in the market for another car. He looked on their web site and found what he wanted. He the applied through his credit union and got the approval. We walked in and we were greeted by Kyle. He showed us the car, and explained the no haggle pricing. We then test drove the car and liked it a lot. We had the extended warranty added, and Kyle printed out the purchase order and we were on our way. We were there maybe 30 minutes if that. We sent the order to the credit union and they are sending the check 2 day mail to the dealership. We will pick up the car on Monday. This was a very easy and enjoyable process. read more

I've bought or watched others buy cars from CarMax and used to have an entirely positive opinion of the process. I had to buy a car quickly when mine was totaled in an accident, and was disappointed that the right hand didn't know what the left was doing during the pendency of the transfer. That was very stressful until the last day of my insurance paying for my rental, when I was fortunately able to pick up my new to me car. Sadly though, my bank through whom I financed the purchase was slow and awkward. CarMax was understanding and helpful and reassuring during that hiccup. My only other complaint was that I drove away in a car that clearly needed an alignment, and the smart keys don't open my trunk. I hope I will get a reimbursement for the alignment I paid for the following day as CarMax was closed on Sunday and I didn't want to drive a poorly alignment car for a week. I'll update!! read more

Sam, the sales rep who handled the deal, was able to get the car in to be assessed and an offer cut in ~35 minutes. While I've heard that one can get a better deal when selling to private parties, I appreciated Sam's professionalism and the sheer speed at getting the deal done. This is much different than the rigmarole one can get at other dealerships; and it's likely why CarMax has prospered over the years. Went in to get an appraisal and was assigned sales person, Tony S. All I wanted was the appraisal and I was up-front about it. After the appraiser came out, Tony didn't come out to provide me a hard copy as usual as others have done in the past. Instead he only sent me an email with the appraised price. So, I went inside to get a hard copy. Before providing it to me, Tony insisted on knowing why I wanted it. So I was honest and said, "I'm taking it to Henna Chevrolet because they'll give me $500 more." His response was, "I just wanted to hear you say it." This lot is fairly good many of the cars are open and you can look inside most of them are sold or on hold so there's a lot of disappointment if you find something you like. I think it would be wise if they would move those cars to the back. the salesman did try to get us hooked up with a car that we wanted. they did their best but there was no connection not too happy about waiting one hour to find out a car is not available. This was my first time actually buying a car from CarMax. I found the car that I wanted on their website then checked to see if I was pre qualified. The next day an agent contacted me about seeing if we could get financing. The agent Nate was great, easy to talk with and very helpful. After we found a lender I set an appointment to come test drive for the next week. The next day I had some time so contacted Nate about coming in that day, he changed my appointment with no problem then connected me to Ali that walked me through finalizing all the paperwork all online. I got to the store, walked right in and was able to be in the car test driving it all with in maybe 15mins. The car was exactly as advertised and I am so happy with my experience as a first time buyer with them and loved how easy and seamless the whole process was. I will definitely shop with them again for my next vehicle. The agents who worked with me were Nate, Ali, Ashley and the one that helped at the end I can't remember his name but he was great as well. Highly recommend giving them a try the next time you are in the market for a used car. Also I want to add that it was 3pm on Saturday which looked to be one of the busier days. The "issue" I found on test drive was the sunroof wouldn't slide open only tilt. Not a deal breaker for me.. so I told them I would try resetting it and see if that corrected the issue.. they said just bring it back any time and they would fix it. read more

I posted my review to Google, but because my experience was so awful, I'm going the extra mile by posting it to Yelp too! Want the summary? Avoid working with Blake Koelber. More details? Read further. December 31st I paid $899 to get the specific car transported from CarMax's VA location here to Austin. Prior to the transfer of the vehicle, I specifically asked about the condition of the vehicle. I was told that the vehicle was in "great condition" and had "no major dents or scratches". CarMax allegedly has a "rigorous 125 point inspection", so surely I should expect a car in top notch condition. The car arrived two weeks later. Immediately, I noticed there was damage on the front of the vehicle. I'm not talking about rock chips or swirls caused by car washes - both of which are often expected with a used car. The car had legitimate damage on the front bumper caused by hitting something. Additionally, after test driving the car, I noticed that every time the brakes were tapped, there was a squeaking sound. I informed the salesperson I was working with, Blake, about the issues. I was not interested in purchasing the car at this point and wanted a refund for the transportation costs. According to other employees at CarMax, it's standard procedure to refund customers for their shipping fees if the car was not advertised correctly. I told him the car did not meet my standards, and that it was incorrectly described before the transfer. His response? "Your standards do not matter, CarMax's standards matter, and the car's condition meets CarMax's standards". I wish I could say I was making that up. Do CarMax's standard state that glaring damage on cars do not need to be disclosed to customers? Apparently Blake thinks so. Blake also stated that this damage is "less than half an inch" in size. I've attached a photo below, it certainly isn't that small. Unless we have different definitions of what half an inch looks like. If I had known about the damage prior to paying $899, I would not have paid the transportation fees. The fact that Blake insists that this type of damage is "normal for used cars" is shocking, especially when we're talking about a car that was only driven 24K miles with a $47K price tag. Unacceptable. I would steer clear from working with Blake. As for CarMax in general, I would be very weary of their transportation process if this is how they treat customers. I requested a call with the manager, and I have yet to have a call with them. I'm optimistic that CarMax's management will make things right, but we'll see. read more

A very good experience here with the sales staff and getting a good car with what I was looking for. However, they say the car is inspected before you get it, a 144 point inspection or something like that. Bought a car with 22k miles on it. Thought part of the inspection would've been to change air and cabin filters and rotate the tires. Glad I didn't go too long without getting the oil changed and doing maintenance. At 25k miles, the air and cabin filters had never been changed. And tires are wearing unevenly. Almost like they had never been rotated or balanced. But I guess small things like that AREN'T part of the inspection. Still overall a good experience, so I will probably be back again. read more

We have bought 2 cars from them at this location in the last month. One of them was 2017 Ford Edge and the other a 2019 Honda Pilot, both with under 50,000 miles. There was no reason for them to break down, however each of them did within 2 weeks. The Honda Pilot completely died in the middle of an intersection 1.5 HOURS after we drove it off the lot. It's been 3 days and they have not been able to tell us what the problem is. They also promised to reimburse us for the $350 it cost to tow the car after we sat there for 3.5 hours. Now they are telling us the only receipt we were given is not eligible for a reimbursement. Beyond frustrated and completely stunned at the poor customer service and the nerve of them to sell us 2 faulty cars and then do nothing to try to make it right. Will not be buying anymore cars here or recommending anyone else does. This is not what I expected from Carmax. Do better. read more

Worst Customer experience. 02/14/2023 I recently visited Carmax to purchase a new/used vehicle and was highly disappointed with the salesperson Julio Lopez. I have prior history with Carmax as I have purchased a vehicle with them years ago and at that time, I had great experience with the last Salesperson. Immediately I felt as if I was being judged. I went there with my partner and instead of calling my name they called him. I said to myself no big deal. I saw multiple vehicles I was interested in, and we went through them all. The one I wanted was located at Myrtle Beach. I was ok with paying for shipping that was not a big deal but it met the requirements of my monthly payment. When asked how long it will take to arrive Julio Lopez stated it will take up to a month or several months to get here and was not responsible for any damage at all. I stated that's fine I see you have a 2018 white X1 in the parking lot that matches the exact same one I want to purchase may I test drive it. Julio Lopez states that fine if I have a driver license and insurance which I had on hand and then proceeds to tell me don't take more than 20 minutes in a very condescending way. I took the vehicle on a test drive and loved it. When we got back I ask Julio Lopez can you work with my on this vehicle is there any way we can negotiate on the price or bring it down just a little to meet my monthly payments. Julio Lopez stated absolutely not. I understand as I was in car sales as well but I do know you can help just a little. Julio Lopez than stated how much can I put down I said 1,000.00. He sighed and said that will do nothing. I said ok let's run my credit and see what I would need to bring it down and all of a sudden now his domainer changes because I know I have great credit and now he can make a sale with no issues. Instead of helping now he wanted to hurry up and sign paperwork to make this sell. Before I made full commitment while I was on the test drive, I did notice that the vehicle was super dirty I asked if they could detail it one more time before I make the final purchase. Julio Lopez stated no because they don't have a detail team that is capable of doing so. He stated I can take it somewhere on my own time and he would only apply 100.00 dollar voucher. I should have never bought this vehicle and should have walked out. However, I need a vehicle to get to and from work, but this will be the last time I will buy a vehicle from Carmax. I had my car towed and put exactly where an associate told me to leave it on01/30/2024. I went inside and turned in the keys to my car on 01/30/2024 and was told that I had an appointment for 9am Wednesday morning 1/31/2024. I called around 1130am 01/31/2024 and was told my car was still being diagnosed but someone would call me back within the hour. Never got a call so i called again at 315pm in the after noon and again was told my car was still being diagnosed but would get a call before closing at 6pm. I called back around 530pm and spoke to a guy who said his name was Dallas and he was a manager. He informed my car had not been seen all day and i had missed the appointment. I then explained to him how I towed my car their and turned in the keys personally. He placed me on mute for a moment then came back and said I am sorry but we found your keys in an associates desk drawer who no longer works here. I am routing your vehicle now and you will get a call first thing in the morning around 10am by a guy named Robert. He even said he would wave fees because of this mishap. I said thank you and let him go. Now its 1:00pm Thursday 02/01/2024 and I still have not received a call. I just called to speak to Dallas and was informed he was busy by the same lady who told my my car was being diagnosed yesterday. I informed her I was making this review and was going to consider taking other actions like contacting the BBB. Update: It's 115pm and Dallas just called me to apologize again and said hopefully my car will be repaired by tomorrow it will depend on if the parts come in today at 330pm like they are suppose to. I honestly feel like I am getting the run around and that I will not have my car back until next week. This entire process is very upsetting and unprofessional. Shocking service. I purchased a 2013 Ford Escape three years ago. I was rushed through in less than an hour and the last few years have been hell. Every three to four months I was in to repair the same issue, which no one could seem to fix. When I brought my car in for repairs, they'd keep it for well over a week after making me wait two weeks for the earliest appointment. I paid several hundred dollars each month for what was meant to be the best warranty they offered. After several visits for the same issue I decided it was best to purchase a new car. Carmax made zero efforts to compensate for the thousands of dollars spent on a lemon and were barely helpful in my search for a new vehicle. And don't get me started on the interest rates (nothing lower than 12% with excellent credit). Bottom line: don't use Carmax. This company is a scam. You're better off purchasing a new car from a dealership. read more

Just a word of warning to anyone buying from this location. I followed the various web and online appointment set ups for a vehicle that they showed on site. I booked my appointment before 10am. Got my confirmation text and the scheduler showed that everything was set to go. When I showed at 3pm they 'discovered' that the vehicle was in a other city and someone else had it set aside somehow. I had personal financial preapproval and had planned to buy on the spot. I would recommend calling ahead if possible and have them confirm that they actually a have the vehicle before wasting your time and effort by going in since the folks at this unit do not seem to be confirming inventory in advance of scheduled appointments. They also just let me walk away without even an apology or offer to look at anything else they may have on hand. I tried calling after driving home to see if the vehicle I saw is being sold or just being looked at but after 30+ mins and half a dozen transfers to someone else who might be able to help I'm just going to let it go and try to find another group to buy from. read more

I did see around 6-8 employees in the buy your car section just walking and talking to each other. 1-2 customers being helped. I was only one waiting. I waited another 10 min or so. Left and once I got in my car I got a call from someone saying I was to helped now. I told him I left because of above reasons. All he said was "oh alright well goodbye then". No care in the world to address or apologize. First time ever at a CarMax.... They do their best to get you in and out but expect to spend at least 3 to 4 hours during this process. The salesman/women have all been super helpful. Last September my A/C compressor stopped working on a Jetta that I had purchased last may. I had the car for 6 months when it started only blowing hot air. Carmax was able to give me a loaner quickly and take my car in for service, had the loaner about 2 weeks and went to pick up my car. Everything was fine until my car battery started dying right after I picked it up. I take it back and they charge me to replace the battery when it was completely fine before I had even taken it in. They give me another loaner and replace it. Less than a year later my air conditioning starts blowing hot air occasionally but only for a few minutes. I still made an appointment to have it looked at and see if it was the same issue. It had been only 10 months of working air conditioning and I did not want to pay to have this fixed since the issue was pretty minute but I wanted to see what the issue was. I take it in to carmax and at this point I still have air conditioning that will blow cool air most of the time. Fast forward I pick it up and it is the same exact issue of a broken air compressor. I tell them I can't get it fixed here since I'm moving in 2 days but will take it to another carmax. Anyways I get into my car and my car is blowing extremely hot air the entire drive. I am so frustrated. It was okay before I took there and I told them I only wanted to have it looked at since I would deal with an issue in my new city. I don't know what he did when he checked it out but it completely will not blow ANY cold air now. Im extremely frustrated because now I do have to get the issue fixed and it's going to cost me $450 because of carmaxs "12 month, 12,000 miles" warranty. It's been 10 months, but I've driven 13,000 miles. This is bs. I wish I had never bought a car from this place and I'm thinking of ways to come up with money to pay it off quickly. BARB THE SALES MANAGER NEEDS TO BE FIRED!!! This Carmax location is horrible! Upon being greeted for my appointment @ 8:30PM. They said they was unable to help me because they couldn't find the appointment! Then I got directed to Barb the Sales Manager who was extremely rude to me and explained she has no-one to help me! She then took 15 minutes to look up the stock number just to tell me that the vehicle was unavailable! Which is funny because I was checking the app every 30 seconds and it was available until she stated it wasn't. I'm not stupid. She probably created a fake appointment on the vehicle so that she could brush me off because she had no one to help me out! How she even got a manager position is ridiculous. Her customer service was absolutely the worst! Do not go here. She will lie to you just so she doesn't have to help you out! read more

Contacted Jessica Wheeler (Sales) and gave her details on exactly what I wanted. She kept a look out nationwide and caught the best deal on a full loaded BMW. Had it transferred in and it was Carmax in half the time was thought. Came in, drove and viewed it. Pointed a few deficiencies that she got all pushed through resulting in a new windshield for the vehicle and service notes corrected. Process was a smooth one. read more

Horrible costumer services , 6 different people called and each one had a different information , I waited a week to purchase a car , after a phone call saying that my car was ready to pick up and I was fully approved I drove to the location just to get rejected by a sales person that was not willing to help me , after he reviewed my income he mentioned that I usually make more money that I reporter to the original application so he suggested that maybe carmax can finance my car with lower interest rate 10 minutes latter he come back with a total different Offert changing my car payment from 599 to almost 900 dollars and down payment from $2000 to almost $9000 . I have a good credit I don't know how everything change after they told me over the phone that I was approved by a bank . read more

Enzo took great care of me. Was in and out 2 hours selling my car. Everyone was very nice at the dealership.

Carmax Austin North sold me a vehicle that will not pass the Texas state inspection because of the window tint. 2 different Carmax locations passed the vehicle with the tint before selling it to me. They are now refusing to fix their mistake and replace 2 windows of tint, and also making up a handful of excuses as to why it happened. As a consumer I will now have to waste time and money getting the car repaired to even make it legal. This is poor business practice. Don't shop here. read more
