I actually forgot that Minnesota has one of these now. I typically stop in the Las Vegas location to get cannolis when I'm visiting so I was a bit excited when I saw this place at the MOA and could get my cannoli fix. The cannolis were great but boy does the customer service suck. My cannolis were just placed in a bag. No wax paper around them. The cashier didn't even tell me my total...good thing I can read. He just pointed at the slot where my card goes and closed out the sale assuming I didn't want a receipt. Not one word came out of his mouth. Poor customer service can ruin good food. read more

Went here on a Wednesday evening, and had to wait in a 15 minute line, which was not a plus. While browsing I looked at the menu for prices, around $4 for a plain cannoli and $5 for a chocolate dipped cannoli... not exactly a fair price for the quality but ill get to that. I had noticed a box of Italian rainbow cookies which appeared pre made, as they were in a box that had a nutrition label on them with ingredients smh, in ANY Italian bakery the rainbow cookies are on display and you can choose the amount you want and it is sold per pound, and then it is guaranteed freshness, and not a dry mess of a cookie when it is supposed to be nice and moist. Didn't try the cookies because they were $14 for a tiny box. Staff was friendly, but after they take your order you have to stand to the side and wait for them to call your name, and I had to wait for about 5min after ordering for ONE Cannoli. Not exactly preferred. The Cannoli itself was just okay, not really worth the price of $4 if you ask me. The cream inside it tasted mostly of cream cheese and not enough ricotta and the chocolate chips were scarce, the shell was perfect though, fresh and crunchy but you could sadly tell the cream wasn't made by an Italian, and the Cannolis at this establishment will sadly never beat the taste of a cannoli made by a nice Italian grandma from an authentic family owned Italian bakery. read more

I am SO glad I tried the Carlos Bakery in New York. Because if this were the first one I tried- I would never go back. At the one in New York, I got the Oreo cupcake and it was hands down the best cupcake I've ever had. So when I saw they put a Carlos in Mall of America I figured I had to go back and get that cupcake again. I got the same Oreo cupcake I had gotten before and loved... and this one was absolutely terrible. One of the driest cupcakes I had ever had. And it was in the early afternoon so it isn't like it had been sitting out all day. I really hope they can pull their act together and make the baked goods like they do at other locations. read more

I've been waiting to try this for so long, have been a fan since the beginning of Cake Boss. I should have kept waiting. Finally made it out to the MOA and got a cannoli and a lobster claw. The cannoli was absolutely rubbish. Wallpaper paste would have been a better filling than whatever was souped into this thing. Yuck. Save yourself (and your wallet) and go to Cosetta's for a decent cannoli. The lobster claw - watch out. It will tear up the roof of your mouth it is so crunchy. Overbaked and overfilled. Very disappointed! I went here after they first opened. Excellent service and amazing product. Went again this weekend. Only 2 employees visible. One on register and one filling orders. Long line but not more than 10 people! Took forever. Trays came out of back and were super cold as if they had been frozen and set out to thaw . Super disappointed in the new pastry shop that opened here at the Mall of America. My initial thoughts were if it was crazy crowded, it must be some pretty good baked goods. As I was going through the line and peeking at the selections I had questions on the fillings/flavors. Neither the tv menu (which had no descriptions) or the staff (who was unwilling to answer guest questions) were able to provide me with the information I needed. The baked goods they have here range from lobster tail pastries to cookies. Basic. Ordered two cannoli's - because who can go wrong with two cannoli's? Unfortunately this place can go wrong with cannoli's. The texture and taste was nothing appetizing - thick filling and a bland shell. For the price it's so not worth it. Passing on Carlo's Bake Shop. We stopped by here in the afternoon the first day at the mall and it was really picked over so didn't stop. I went back the second day and we ordered a pastry and two different lobster tails as I've never had them before. The regular lobster tail was delicous!!! I love the variation of crunchy pastry with smooth custard filling. I didn't love the flavor of the second lobster tail, but that was just my personal preference. The pastry was standard to any other pastry. I wanted to purchase a t-shirt but they didn't carry them in my size that day, so was disappointed. Service was basic for a 'get in line' shop. read more

Be warned they have the worst ordering system I've ever seen. The line took us 30 mins to get to the counter and it took 15 more minutes after paying the cashier to get two cannolis, two cakes and a coffee placed on a tray. Ridiculous. They need to place orders on the tray as customers move by the display cases rather and pay at the cashier like a regular bakery. I went here on Tuesday 8/14/18 around 2:05pm. I am a HUGE fan of the show "Cake Boss" and I was very excited to try this bakery. The line was very short, maybe 3 people ahead of me. Let me say that the blond woman pulling the treats out had an authentic New Jersey attitude... at least that's what I hope they were going for. In all seriousness, the woman was extremely rude to us. There are no labels on the treats so I was doing my best to point and describe what I wanted, and the woman pulling out the treats YELLED at me..."everything is covered in chocolate so how am I supposed to know what you want! Just tell me what you want!" My mother and I were completely taken off guard by this and we had no clue what to say. We just took what she gave us and paid for it because we were terrified and wanted to get the heck out of there. Someone else checked us out at the register but then the rude blond woman brought us the treats she had packed up and gave us the most condescending "have a nice day" while narrowing her eyes at us like we had done something horrible. We hustled as far away as possible. Overall the service was a 0/10. The chocolate covered cannoli was one of the best things I had ever had! I will definitely go back for this.. unless that same woman is still working there. The white chocolate mousse was also very good. The cake however was dry and way too sweet. We came to Minneapolis for her 9th birthday and went to order a birthday cake for her birthday at the Mall of a America asked to speak to the baker and they won't even let me speak to her, because it was not 7 Days in advance. Instead we were met with a Vey rude woman who frightened the customers by yelling out "stay behind that line so I can get this!!" When we had the " courage " to step forward, we could then visualize all the yummy choices , including the 20 cakes . Oh no, she tells us " yeah I didn't get those ready so you can't Have cake" what??!!!! Then I ask about a lobster tail, and am met with a lecture about what a cannoli is ! She was making us a nervous wreck during he 20 seconds we were pushed to decide, but the menu over our heads kept flashing to different screens and didn't rest long enough to see the main part of the menu. There were 2 people visible in a place that you would expect requires a high number of staff at all times . I'm sorry she was obviously so stressed , annoyed , and impatient. Here's the thing - Buddy and his family, starting with the Dad have worked themselves to the bone for years to bring authentic, quality pastry to us. First I don't watch the show. So this review is based on the quality of their product not hype from the show. The good - cannoli and lobster tails. The cannoli is the closest and most authentic to cannoli in Italy that I have has in the states. The shells aren't as crispy (they are pre-filled and the shell get a bit soft). The filling is great! Smooth, not too sweet with just a hint of lemon. The lobster tail-love the crispy layers! And the filling Wow! Creamy and available in great flavors The bad - the cakes. Really disappointing cake for a bake shop famous or rather infamous for their cakes. Spent $40.00 on the small rainbow cake. Suggested for 4 people. 6 layers beautifully colored. But sadly color was all the cake had going for it. The cake was absolutely devoid of flavor. It didn't taste like food coloring but it also didn't taste like anything else either. My daughters and I visited the new location at MOA, MN on 10/28/2017 We had asked the cashier Sasha if the carrot cake contained nuts and she said "No", we got home and found out it had nuts, Yikes, thankfully we are not allergic but my daughter was bummed since she dislikes nuts. I was so excited to see a Carlos Bakery come to MOA. My family and I went shortly after opening that morning. I was very disappointed to see the case wasn't even fully stocked and I was expecting fresh pastries. I got a couple cannolis and a few lobster tails. This was our first time trying Carlos Bakery. The cannoli was the better of the two. The lobster tail was probably from the day before. The outside was not crispy at all but the filling was nice. I ate my lobster tail cause I didnt want it to go to waste since i spent almost $5 for a single one. I hope this branch get their kinks straightened out since Buddy seems to always emphasis quality at his stores. I will try it again but will give it some time. Went to this shop with high hopes. Waited in lone as one person was waiting on all of the customers and then ringing them up. My friend went first and paid for their items. I ordered an item to snack on now and an item to bring home to my SO. When the person working the counter brought the items to the register she placed them next to each other and gave me my total. I asked if it was possible to get a bag since we were walking thru the mall. Her response was "does it look like I'm done?" Actually, it did since you now wanted my money. I gave her cash and was supposed to get 7 dollars and change back. She gives me a 5 dollar bill and two dollars in quarters and then 30ish cents back. She said she didn't have 1's. So disappointing. Mall of America location in Bloomington, MN. I know staffing is hard, but REALLY you guys could do better. Waited in line behind ONE customer for 18 minutes before even being able to select items. Selection was minimal. While waiting, couldn't help but notice the layers of dust and grime behind items in what appeared to be an active food prep area, which was littered with flour bins with messy tops just strewn about- not even organized or with tops wiped off. Watched 3 different employees walk in and out of a back kitchen area without a word to the line of us waiting (2 groups behind us). Cashier was barely understandable with her mumbling. Mini strawberry cheesecake was ok, good flavor, poor texture, under-ripe strawberry with a bad spot on it. Assorted cannoli box was very good and was the highlight! Donuts were also just ok. All in all, I won't return and wouldn't recommend. 2 donuts, 2 mini cheesecake, 1 5 pk of cannoli, from a messy kitchen took a total of 25 minutes of my time to purchase for a cost of $48. read more

My granddaughter and I WERE BIG fans of the show but after purchasing her birthday cake from the one at the MOA we are no longer fans and we are very disappointed with her cake-the cake was very dry and stale, they didn't use buttercream as we requested, and there was icing all over the box (EVERYONE ate just a few bites and made the excuse that they were full from eating pizza-which made it very embarrassing due to hyping up the fact that we bought a CARLOS BAKERY cake)...we would have been better off ordering the cake from Walmart, Cub, or HyVee...the only good thing was it being ready an hour before her party. I so wanted to like this bakery I love the show. However the cannoli was heavy and the filling was tasteless. I've been a huge fan of the show for years and was so excited they were opening up a bakery at MOA, only to be incredibly disappointed. It was a 45 min wait just to get 2 cannoli and 2 cake towers! The cannoli were just ok. The filling was mediocre, barely had any chocolate chips and frankly, I've had way better. The "cake towers", which were no different than cupcakes in terms of size, were insanely overpriced! $8 for a vanilla cupcake with whipped cream and a strawberry on top?! We won't be back as there are way better bakeries at more reasonable prices around the twin cities. read more
