Came around Carlo's in the Mall of America, and I was so excited to finally get to try it out. Unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. The selection in the display case were mostly all pre-packaged cake slices, and there were a limited selection to fresh pastries. The lobster tail we ordered was good, but I felt like it could've been better. Just overall not too memorable!
I'll just start with one word: Yikes... I remember when this location opened up and how excited people were! I thought I would give them a try and what an absolute waste of money!! I included pictures but so many things come packaged. It is clear everything is shipped in and not fresh. I decided to try 3 items. The rainbow cake, birthday cake cannoli and a sugar cookie. All items were beautiful and I had high hopes(even with the prepackaging) The cake is nothing special, the flavor was lacking, there was too much frosting and it is served cold, so the frosting was hard. The cannoli had some flavor but was rock hard again because of the refrigeration. The cookie... oh man... the cookie was the absolute worst cookie I have ever had in my life. There was no flavor whatsoever! Not even sweetness! The base tasted like just flour! My boys and I each took a bite and couldn't choke down the rest, we threw it right in the trash! This is not worth anyone's time, money or taste buds! Save yourself the time and try the many other bakeries inside the mall. May be the original shop is fantastic but this location seems like just a money grab!

We tried the rainbow cake with strawberry frosting and a chocolate dipped cannoli. Tucking into the cake, it was nice and moist but still firm, holding it's shape. The frosting has a light strawberry flavor and was not overly sweet and so accented the cake nicely. It was a good sized slice and I only ate half, bringing the rest home to my kids. They loved the bright colors. It came prepackaged so I do wonder how fresh it is though. The cannoli was very good. The shell was dense, crisp, and crunchy. The filling was rich, creamy, and studded with yummy chocolate bits. A very good, classic cannoli. It reminded me of one you can get at Bucas. I think when I come back I will try a variety box of their cannolis. I'm curious to see how their peanut butter one stacks up. Prices were a tad high - the cake does serve two though so I would say each item runs about $4-5 each. Not too surprised, it's a famous celebrity bakery in MOA.
Fun stop they had a deal to get a free cookie with a $24 purchase I'm a sucker for deals so naturally had to add a cannoli and lobster tail! I rarely see rainbow cookies in mn so was excited to find them here at the mall! The girl working was friendly and helpful with the choices. Nice quiet night at the bakery
Meh. I've been to two other Carlo's Bakery locations: one in Las Vegas and another on a cruise ship. This one just didn't stack up. A lot of the items in the display case seemed sad, dry, and less than fresh. I ordered a lobster tail, which is my favorite Carlo's item. The lobster tail was caked with powdered sugar, which is both messy and kind of gross. The consistency of the cream filling also seemed a bit off. Super disappointed that this location missed the mark.
The display at the mall was amazing and neat but I could tell because I have worked for many bakeries before, that the pastries have been sitting for days. I had a tiramisu cake which was dry and the frosting needed more flavoring because all I tasted was milk instead of the mascarpone cheese. The cannolis were the only thing that was decent and delicious and if I go back to his Bakery it will be the only thing I buy.
I was SOOO excited when I saw this bakery!!! I watched the show for several years and was excited to taste what all the hype was about. Cake was soo dry and tasted almost stale. I went back to look at all of the other sweets and everything looked so dry! Such a huge disappointment.
Disappointed in the selection was just cakes cupcakes and cookies . No Italian products at all. No canolli so walked out
The mall of America coupon book included a coupon to Carlos's bakery so we decided to check it out. My son picked the rainbow cake because of the sprinkles and all the color. Our coupon allowed us to get free cup of coffee. First of all, the cake was delicious! Just the right amount of sweetness and oh so good! My mouth is watering as I reflect on and write about it! They brew lavazza coffee and it was good. There are no seats inside the bakery but there are tables just outside. The bakery is nice and bright with so many options. Full-size cakes, cakes by the slice, donuts, cupcakes, and more. It's on the top level, next to the food court. I recommend you get a meal in the food court and save room for a dessert from Carlos! PS - I asked if Carlos is ever actually there and they said he's only been there one time, and that was opening day.
All we tried here was the cannoli and it was excellent. The shell was nice and crispy and the filling was thick, sweet and creamy! Although a bit pricey, it was a delightful treat while we were shopping at the Mall of America.
If you have a sweet tooth than Carlo's Bakery is perfect for you! You can't go wrong with any of the delicious sweets! I was celebrating a co workers birthday and decided to give the rainbow cake a try. I had no idea how many layers this cake was. The presentation was perfect and the taste was even better! I highly recommend for any special occasions.
Never seen the show Chewy cookie and moist cake Color me impressed Several months ago when at MOA, I saw the signage that this place would be opening this fall. Heard someone else comment about it being the Cake Boss. Figured out there was some kind of show about the original location. Still haven't bothered to try and watch any of it. On Yelp talk recently, saw it mentioned that they were opening this Saturday so I was pleasantly surprised to see they were open today. It was the soft opening. The menu is not up yet and they are not printing receipts. Think one of the female stars from the show was there working the line as some of the customers were getting their picture taken with her. I did not partake. Unless your name is Larry David, I am not much of a star worshipper. Saw a sign that Buddy from the show is going to be there for the grand opening this Saturday. He must be the Boss, I guess. Got one M&M cookie and one Oreo cupcake. The cookie was nice and doughy and loaded with M&M's. I prefer donuts over cupcakes, but the cupcake here was not bad at all. Think I liked better than what I had at Georgetown Cupcake which seems to get all the buzz in the cupcake world. Line was short when I got there. Waited maybe like 10 to 15 minutes, and the line was almost non-existent as I was leaving. I imagine that will not be the case at the Grand Opening this Saturday. Very good for me, but definitely not over an hour wait good in my opinion.

I recently visited Minnesota to celebrate a new life milestone achievement. While at the Mall of America, I came across Carlo's Bakery. They had a wonderful assortment of cakes and pastries. I went on a weekday and there was no line or options sold out. What caught my eye was the lobster tail, and I am so glad to have bought one! Lobster Tail: -An extremely delicious and crisp pastry covered with powdered sugar and overflowing with a smooth vanilla flavored French cream. -I was pleasantly surprised at the flavors! The French cream was light and delectable. Looking at the pastry, you can see the individual layers showcasing the talent of the pastry chef. Importantly, the pastry was not soggy or chewy indicating its freshness. Of note, a single lobster tail cost $6.25 as of writing this review. Although on the pricier end, the quality of the pastry justifies the cost. Overall, I am happy to have stopped by Carlo's Bakery. Their quality of lobster tail was incredible. Located within the Mall of America, you can get a box to go. While I won't be ordering it on a daily basis, this is the perfect treat for friends and family. Looking forward to the next time I visit! read more
This bakeshop is located on the third floor next to the north food court. I've seen Carlos on TV and heard he was opening a bakery. When I heard a location opened at Mall of America, I had to go try the cake. The shop was full of desserts and treats behind the glass, ready to choose from and take home. There's someone behind the counter that will help you as you're looking at the desserts to put them in box or bags. Ambiance is like in and out, whatever is available is behind the glass. Whole cake, slices, canoli, cookies, etc. I had to buy a slice of the famous rainbow cake that everyone raves about. read more

Meh. I've been to two other Carlo's Bakery locations: one in Las Vegas and another on a cruise ship. This one just didn't stack up. So I tried the pastries at their Vegas location and it was just okay. Now after trying it again at their MN location my thoughts are the same....still just okay. If I need a cake for a special occasion this won't be my go to spot. The tiramisu cake was okay, but seriously could use a boost. The mascarpone cream filling is good, but the lady fingers on the side are dry. While the ones on the bottom are soaked in coffee it's not enough to impart the true flavor of a tiramisu dessert. So... in a nutshell doesn't taste like I'm eating tiramisu. The yellow cupcake was dry and taste funny, kind of like the pre-packaged cupcakes at Cubs, Target (vs cake found at bakery). I cant place my finger on the taste but it's almost artificial-ish. The swiss buttercream isnt swiss, but is tasty. (Trust me I make swiss buttercream often). That said I am happy with the $2.25 price tag being so many bakeries charge at least $3 (which I find pricey). All in all is it worth trying once......sure. However, I don't see myself being a frequent visitor. *Side Note: I really wish they sold fancy Italian butter cookies (by the pound). I'm talking the ones with sprinkles, dipped in chocolate, with jam.....the kinds I find whenever back home in NY. Bring that Carlos (and make sure it's good)! read more

Meh. Carlo's Bake Shop. So much hype, and overrated and overpriced. Came here on a weekday and it was dead. Only a couple of people in line. It's located next to shake shack on the 3rd floor. Bakery is clean and nicely laid out, but everything is way overpriced for its own good. The rainbow cake was like 6-7 bucks for a tiny slice. It tasted whatever.. definitely not worth the 7 bucks. The other thing we got was the original lobster tail. It's pretty good, but it's like 5 bucks for a tiny lobster tail. It's filled with cream, which is tasty. The croissant is flaky and yummy. Overall, I wouldn't come back again unless the prices gets sliced in half at least! read more

Fan of the shows as well as the original location in NJ. Very impressed with how consistent the products are at any of thier satellite locations. Amazing worth a stop for some sweets and coffee. read more
I honestly didn't know there was a Carlo's bake shop inside of mall of America. The cakes and other sweets looked amazing. When I finally got one, it didn't taste as good as it looked. The cupcake I got was a little dry, and the icing was incredibly sweet. It took a while to go through the line when there was only one person in front of me. Compared to the Carlos bake shop in NYC, this one doesn't compare. read more

I'm beyond disappointed! We bought a carrot slide which was 5.95, a Cannoli for 3.95, a chocolate glazed donut for 2.00 and chocolate dipped strawberry for 3.73. Cannoli had a great shell but like any other Cannoli cream I've tasted! Nothing special at all. As an Italian descendent, I was hoping it would have that ethnic taste but sadly it didn't! The carrot cake was HORRIBLE and DRY! I think I'm more disappointed about this because carrot cake should never be dry! The donut was heavy for a raised donut. It was ok but not great! Strawberry was ok... but for $3.73?:/ There was no line... we ordered and received our order within 3 minutes tops! Not coming back...too expensive for the quality. Not worth the calories! read more
Decided to check this place out with all the hype of the bakery opening and you know, I wasn't all that impressed. I ordered their original lobster tail and the rainbow cake slice. While everything looks absolutely delicious on display, I didn't find any of them to taste particularly great or unique. Not to mention, it's crazy overpriced! For one lobster tail, it's $5 and one slice of cake was $6 that was extremely thin. The cream filling of the lobster tail was light and creamy - delicious. But the outside was super flaky and crunchy with no special taste or anything unique about it. It really just was a tasteless flaky pastry. The cake itself was not impressive either! I came early on a Thursday morning and the cake was not soft, but rather a bit hard and firm with an odd taste overall. To be honest, with such a high price and mediocre taste, this would not be my go-to bakery. There are so many more bakeries that are more affordable with more delicious options. read more
Full disclosure, I've been to the original Carlos bakery in New Jersey. Now to get down to business, I actually like this place. Maybe it's my love for Carlos bakery and buddy but I think he did a good job trying to duplicate the original Carlos bakery. No it wasn't a homerun but at the same time I did step in there and think this is great, I'm going to order a lot of pastries. Now here's where this review gets interesting, there wasn't a lot of pastries. At first I was mad and got real negative about it but then I thought the end of the day maybe this place really got hit hard with a lot of people wanted to get some of the delicious buddy pastries. That's probably what happened. I was very disappointed not to get a cannoli, but my daughter and I got a piece of carrot cake and we were not disappointed. It was moist and the frosting was to die for. I think your buddy stop then he would be happy to see that his place is well taken care of and in good hands in Minnesota. This is my 2nd Carlos bakery I've visited. First one in Vegas now this one and can I say how yummy they are. Not only that I love that at both locations I got the same thing and they were both perfect. I love the lobster tail - original- mercy! You HAVE to get a cannoli! I like that the shell isn't that hard. We tried a hazelnut cream puff and oh my gosh! That is now a staple too. We waited 45 minutes in line and worth the wait. Lobster tail is my favorite. Got a tres leches cake slice and a birthday cake here. The cakes were moderately prized. We went to the store around the closing time. The tres leches was almost coming apart. It tasted good nonetheless. We also bought a birthday cake. Just the right amount of sugar. The place has waiting time. So be prepared to wait in the queue for a bit especially when you have undecided customers. The store could have multiple people serving customers instead of one person trying to handle all the customers. Would recommend visiting if you have time in your hands. Else, I'd rather skip this place. read more

After a wonderful experience at the Carlo's Bake Shop in Vegas, I was really looking forward to the goodies at the MOA location. Location was easy to find. So thankful it wasn't hidden in the food court. There were three people in line on a Sunday afternoon. Score! I got in line pronto only to be stopped and said I had to wait for my turn. My turn for what? My order. There was an order taker and she wrote my wants on a note pad and then handed it to another employee who gathered my goodies. Then another employee wrapped it up and yet another person rung me up. Yes, that happened. Back it up to the order. There were no prices nor signs showing what each item was. I looked like an idiot pointing to "this" and "one of these" and so on. I also purchased a reusable $2.95 bag because I'm going green and paid exactly $19 for my items. Taste Test: Everything was very mediocre. The rainbow cake was rather dry and crumby with extra sugary sweet frosting. The Neapolitan cake was delish as the cream wasn't overly sweet but instead of flaky crust, it tastes like crackers. The cannoli was good, I enjoyed it thoroughly and the cream wasn't too sweet either. I was rather disappointed that they didn't have anything fruity like the goodies I purchased in Vegas. I'd only buy next time if they have fruit desserts. read more

The "lobster tail" was perfect and hit the spot. It was exactly what we were looking for. The staff was overwhelmed and the place seemed understaffed when we went, however, it was the week before Christmas so I think the whole mall was overwhelmed and understaffed. Overall, great lobster tail, great staff, great experience. read more
