A great place to catch a happy hour drink on a sunny day. They have some decent happy hour drink prices that include a free chips and salsa basket. They are quite busy any time the sun is out and the outdoor area can get very hot if you are not lucky enough to get one of the shaded seats. Took about 15 minutes for a server to come take out drink order, though it was a pretty busy Friday afternoon. Food and drinks came fairly quickly after that though. The taco we had was decent and the salsa was quite tasty. Overall, I think a worthwhile stop for happy hour, but wouldn't pay full price read more

We were there for a company event tonight. The staff was super friendly. That ends the positives. The seats in the event room were so low everyone had trouble getting out of them. Also, the acoustics in the room were so bad we couldn't hear the person next to us talking. My voice gave out after a half hour. They ran out of Pepsi and an hour later I still wasn't getting a refill, and no one bothered to ask if I'd like something different. The guacamole and pineapple salsa were delicious. I ordered the ensalada. The waitress insulted my intelligence by informing me it was a salad. No kidding? It was supposed to have a citrus vinaigrette, but all I tasted was oil. Not even good oil, rancid oil. My wife got the vegetarian taco and a vegetarian tostada. The black beans in the tostada had so much cumin it made her nauseated and she couldn't eat it. It was just disgusting. We're so glad we didn't pay for the meal. Skimpy portions of inedible food at super prices. No thank you. We will never go back. read more

Location is great since it's on a rooftop. It has some outdoor seating and mostly indoor. Nice, large, inviting bar. Service was good, it was mostly empty on a Friday night. Maybe the very authentic Mexican name threw me off but I was disappointed with the food. Firstly, it's not real Mexican food, it's more of a modern American fusion with a Mexican twist. Hence, you will not get the expected flavors you would get from a Mexican restaurant. Secondly, the portions are very small and for that price point. I expected the blackened salmon taco to have a chunk of fully flavorful blackened salmon. What I got was what seemed like sautéed salmon from a can or a mushed up salmon, like tuna in a can. The chicken mole didn't taste like mole at all and didn't have flavor. I'd probably just go there for drinks and apps next time. read more

We had a waitress that was crabby and half the food came out and then we waited at least 10 minutes before the rest of the party was served. Food was ok but cold, cocktails were disappointing. I can only muster up 2 stars because of how horribly noisy this restaurant is. Even the best of food would not get my return here. And the food was decent though not very exciting. Somehow, the majority of food in Eugene that I consider Mexican in origin is relatively bland. Where's the cumin and coriander flavors? Let's spice it up. Absolutely recommend this restaurant! The ambiance is amazing wether you sit inside or outside. This restaurant is 21 years of age and up! On a nice night it's great to sit outside on the balcony, the low lit lights and fire table are a vibe! There is only one fire pit table so if you're wanting that it may or may not be a wait. I recommend the chips and salsa with chorizo skillet. The chicken tacos and pork belly tacos are phenomenal! I love the blackberry margarita with an extra shot is perfect! From the moment we walked in the waitress had a hostile personality when we asked to wait to be seated till our other friend arrived. So very off putting from the start, then they proceeded to wait 10 minutes to seat us while a line built up behind us and made eye contact with us several times before coming over again. They don't necessarily offer non alcoholic drinks, I'm pregnant and can't drink. I was charged extra it seemed to make a margarita a "mock tail". The waitress that was helping us pleasant but a little forgetful when it came to picking our checks up. This is what my phone said when they paged us for our table: "We're ready for you at Carlita's. Text us 2 if you are on the way or 3 to cancel. PLEASE LIMIT YOUR STAY TO 90 MINUTES!" Say what??? Who the hell tells their paying customers to get out? Wow. We asked to sit outside on the patio and were told "No. We aren't seating outside." by our lousy server who took our order then didn't come back even ONE time. Someone else delivered our food. No asking if it was okay...did we need anything...nothing. Our dinners were 2 street tacos that had more cabbage on them than meat. No sides. Just 2 little tacos on a plate. I literally couldn't taste the meat at all. Lacking in spice, flavorless, and tiny. We even had to pay for chips and salsa. As soon as we ordered, they let several groups move right out to the patio. When we asked for our bill, she walked away and stood by the bartender laughing for almost 30 minutes! I had to ask her again. We were just about to walk out when she delivered it, muttering something about the printer being bad. (I'm sorry, but if you want your paying patrons out in 90 minutes, MAYBE YOU SHOULD MAKE IT SO THEY CAN PAY AND LEAVE! As a former waitress who worked for 12 years in fine dining, family restaurants and coffee shops, I NEVER leave without leaving a very good tip. Came here for a mom's night out in June and it was the perfect spot to just chill and take our time enjoy the food and time with friends, if you are in a hurry don't bother. Two of us showed up almost two hours before we were planning to meet to grab a table and it was a good thing we did because it was a two hour wait to get a table on the patio on a weeknight. No big deal to us we sat at the bar and enjoyed happy hour together. The drink with the bourbon that's on the happy hour menu instead of the margaritas was my favorite. We got chips and salsa as well as a few tacos to try. The "carne asada" taco is definitely not carne asada it is shredded beef but it's still pretty good. The bar tender was very friendly and we had fun visiting with him and having him recommend drinks. When we got our table it took and bit to get service. For our party this was kind of nice because we were visiting and not in a hurry so it was nice to not feel rushed, others might not have appreciated this as much. Our server was very sweet and helpful! The food was all good but much of it was very spicy. The best thing was the beef short rib cheese dip with chips. I will definitely be back for that again. The menu was also not the same as what was listed on the website tho they may have changed it by now. It is a loud 21+ establishment so it's obviously not going to be for everyone but it was the perfect mom's night out place! read more

Update: my mother did get the $5 off later on her credit card from the rewards program. It actually came off her bill at the Gordon Hotel bar (first floor) but I think they are all under the Urban Restaurant Group ownership. The sign up for the rewards program is still quite lengthy and invasive. I wasn't able to input my credit card. Maybe I can alert my server about membership through my phone or email. We aren't able to delete my mother's credit card info either which is a bit concerning. She did get an update about it through email for the $5 credit. I signed up for the program too and haven't gotten any emails though. Hopefully this restaurant has a technical coordinator or advertising consultant who can work out all the issues for future ease. read more

I was really excited to try this place and I guess shouldn't have let the hype get me so excited. The margarita was just ok, nothing special, didn't have much flavor at all other than alcohol (we had a strawberry and blackberry at our table and they tasted the same). Our table was forgotten at nearly every step of the meal. The first was excusable as the waitress didn't realize her table had switched out yet. But then she tried to offer us our tab before we'd even gotten our meal (she had forgotten to bring it to us). Each step of the process took what seemed like forever. From drinks to appetizer to our meal and ticket. The food was ok. Good salsa options, good tacos, but again nothing special. The waitress was super friendly, although obviously not very attentive (one of the meals was also brought out incorrectly). On to the atmosphere--this was way more of a night club atmosphere than I was expecting. We walked out feeling deaf like after a full night at a concert. We had to lean in for every conversation. You couldn't hear anything other than their music when sitting inside, and when I asked about moving outside (lots of open tables) I was told you're not allowed to switch tables once seated. That's totally understandable, except for the fact that the people sitting directly next to us had done just that without question. We will unfortunately not be returning again. Eugene really misses Belly Taqueria, I was so hopeful that this may fill the void, but it did not in anyway stand up to them (food, drink, service, atmosphere). read more

I've been to Carlita's three times so far, and it's become one of my new favorite spots.It's on the rooftop of the Gordon Hotel, and if you're able to grab a table on the patio you're treated to a gorgeous view of the Eugene skyline. But even inside, I found the atmosphere a nice mix of cozy and lively. The dining area is small to medium, so be aware it can fill up quickly. My buddy and I ordered chips as an appetizer and had a choice of different salsas. I lean towards the spicy side, so the chipotle salsa was great and the ghost pepper crema had a nice kick. The poblano chicken salad is pretty good, but the tacos are where Carlita's really shines. My fave picks so far are the blackened salmon, and the apple smoked carne asada. The last time we came in, we just wanted drinks at the bar. The house margarita is good, the La Paloma is even better, and the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. Research on the rest of the bar menu is pending, but just know their tequila and whiskey selection is very extensive. Not once did we feel the service was lacking in any way, which was a nice surprise for a restaurant just starting out. The staff was great and attentive. The manager in particular was fantastic, and she checked with us often to see how our meal was. You get what you pay for, and between Carlita's atmosphere, food, quality of service and impressive cocktail selection, I was very happy with my experience. Easily recommended for a date night, taking a client to a nice lunch, or if you just want something a couple of steps above the norm. Looking forward to next time! read more

I really wanted to give this place five stars, but the lack of customer service I received when trying to resolve an issue made by a staff member changed my review. I signed the receipt and left a tip to be charged onto the card I had left for payment. The amount that ended up being charged onto my card, was not the correct amount I signed on. I was overcharged, or the tip was entered in incorrectly. I reached out to the restaurant and was told that someone in management would contact me to resolve this issue and refund me. A week went by, and no one ever contacted me. When I reached out to the restaurant again, no one replied or resolved my issue. And for me it is not about the amount I am owed refunded, but the lack of concern in resolving the issue. If I ever go back here again, I will never write in a tip on the card receipt. I don't trust it will be entered in correctly. Besides this issue, the view from the rooftop is nice, and the food and drinks are tasty. This place is definitely a good spot for a view and the ambiance is there, however unfortunately the food is very mid to say the least, it's not bad just the price for such a simple taco is a little high and I understand in a restaurant its expected but the flavors just were not there in my opinion. Now the wait staff is what really ruined my experience from the lady that sat me to my server I felt judged based on how I was dressed. Beautiful rooftop seating, great staff...but the food had no flavor. I was so surprised bc the ingredients and description made the dishes sound SO flavorful. The concept is there, but not the flavor at all. Elote needs flavor and not to drown in mayo, the salsas were bland, and there was nothing mole about the mole tacos. Everything I've had there is amazing! Best Queso I've ever had!! With house made chips, and the Tostada, and Tacos are great as well. My drink of choice is the Ay Dios Mio "margarita", which they will tell u isn't a margarita but it really is just a spicy mango-rita. All of the staff have been very friendly, fun, and knowledgable. The only negative thing I would say is as a local who lives in Eugene, it's really hard to get IN to the restaurant. By not taking reservations, you have to get there when they open at 4 or they're packed by 4:30. Which is hard if you work the days they are open, like I do (I had to take time off of work just to eat their queso again lol) Also, being downtown 5th street the parking is a nightmare! Wear your walking shoes. The restaurant is for sure tailored for hotel guests. My fingers are crossed for a second location, but I won't hold my breath. read more

Pros: lay out of the place is nice. Appreciated sitting outside with a nice view of the sunset. Cons: I have never been more disappointed with the food. My shrimp ceviche was raw! Ceviche means the fish or seafood sits in citrus giving it the appearance of being cooked and it kills toxin in raw foods that can make you sick. However the shrimp ceviche served to me was not grilled, as it says on the menu nor has been sitting or marinating in the citrus marinade to its proper marinating period. I decided to save myself trips to the bathroom for food poisoning by not eating it. We then asked for guacamole on the side for our chips. Guacamole was super bland. My friend ordered the Seared Tuna Salad. She took a few bites of it and couldn't stomach it. I don't think I'm ever coming back nor will I recommend this place to anyone! If you're hungry, this would not be my choice. No way! It's too bad the food is horrible for being such a nice venue. Very disappointing. read more

Has the ambience and food quality of an airport sports bar. Ahi Ceviche looked and tasted like Costco poke, slathered in some weird sauce. Unlike any ceviche I've encountered. Blackened salmon tacos were shredded salmon, no blackening in sight. Rest of tacos were mediocre at best. Chips were store bought generic tossed with too much salt. Mezcal cocktail filled about 2/3 of the glass. Weird stuff. Minimum attention paid to interior design. Looks promising when you step off the elevator, goes down hill with each step. Generic furnishings, seating arranged like a food court, music blasting cringe music for ambience cred like Macarena and Despacito. Hope these are growing pains because the idea of a rooftop whiskey taqueria is just what Eugene needs but seems like a lot of these choices are baked in. read more

I've only eaten here once when it first opened and the food was mediocre and cold. I've tried going back several times to see if it was had gotten better over time to workout opening kinks. Three different attempts we tried to give it another shot and waited so long at the hostess desk without any acknowledgement that we gave up and went down stairs to the Gordon to eat. It's too bad because the location is great and the outdoor seating is lovely. Eugene has too many excellent Mexican restaurants to just go for the outdoor seating. read more
