Being from San Diego, we know good Mexican food and margaritas -- so I'll admit, I was a little hesitant. But wow, Carlita's delivered! We sat on the rooftop soaking up the sunshine and city views while sipping margaritas (which were on point). We started with the queso -- different than what I'm used to, but absolutely delicious. The chips? Next level. They're dusted with this salty magic that had me saying, gimme more! I ordered the short rib taco and the short rib tostada -- both were flavorful, tender, and just downright yummy. I literally told my husband, "Let's come back tomorrow." In a city where we haven't found many great food spots, Carlita's was such a win. Highly recommend and definitely returning.

Ambiance yes. Yes. Yes. Deck over looking city. Yes. Foods ok. It's not like amazing. Tacos are great quality, but the tortilla is well, store bought thin and lacking for 7$ Great chips, good virgin margaritas. But foods just a weee bit lacking. But I'll go back just for the deck.

Given that Carlita's is one of perhaps only 3 rooftop options in the super picturesque Willamette Valley, I felt like we had to try it even though the reviews are all over the place. On a Sunday night (of Labor Day weekend) it was pretty busy. We came after dinner to have drinks and dessert as a group of 6. We were surprised to be sat quite quickly, at a table between windows to no view to really speak of. It would have been nice to be able to check out the view. We were not served quickly and fully understand the strains of being under staffed and busy. Our server made a point multiple times of explaining this but it didn't really save any face. We ordered drinks and one serving of each dessert - a brownie, flan and churros. The flan was the best and that was still not amazing. The servings were generous so I will give them credit for that, but the flan was falling apart, the churros were over cooked and the brownie was the most dense thing I've ever had. Overall, pretty disappointed. I can't give the place 1 star, it really has location over all and they're trying, being short staffed isn't the remaining staff's fault. But I don't think I will return.

I love The Gordon and appreciate the convenience of Carlito's on the rooftop. I REALLY wanted to love their food, too. I ordered the ceviche and chips as my meal and appreciated the high ratio of tuna to vegetables in the dish. I didn't even mind that the dish was a little small because it the helping of tuna was generous. What I didn't like was that the chunks--I'm using that word intentionally--of tuna were so poorly cut, of various sizes, and tissue often remained between pieces. This made putting a mouthful on a chip pretty difficult, which resulted in my dropping a lot and eventually using a fork. I realize this sounds like a "champagne problem" --oh my, a fork?!--but details matter. In fairness, I must note that I did enjoy the flavor, which is why it earned three stars. Overall, the dish was amateurish but it could be turned around with minimal effort.

Great food and margaritas! The Carlita's skillet is a must have. Super great to have a rooftop place in Eugene too. Pretty sunset views in the summer!

This place is great for some outdoor Summertime rooftop dining in Eugene. We stopped by for a light dinner on our last night in Eugene. The weather was perfect and the shade umbrellas on the rooftop deck were perfect for the heat. My daughter and I shared a bottle of the blackberry margarita and my wife had a passionfruit mocktail margarita. The blackberry margarita was very refreshing. We shared the chips and guac which came with a large amount of guac (bonus!), and shared some tacos and the elote. My daughter had the Walla Walla Pappas Tostada and I had the Chicken Mole Tostada. My only suggestion is that the tostadas were on the dry side and needed some more mole or mole on the side. Overall we had a great server named Laurie and a fun time. I recommend Carlita's for a Summer's afternoon aperitif or dinner with a view!

The rooftop bar was a delight in the early evening in Spring with the sun shining. There are about 15 tables or so total, not many and not too loud. We were there a couple minutes before the end of Happy Hour (6pm) but she took our orders and charged Happy Hour price. The margaritas were humhum- not great, not awful, just not very flavorful and a bit sweet. Not much alcohol in them, pretty weak and lots of rock ice so very little "drink". It came with chips and salsa when ordering drinks at Happy Hour. I liked the chips, good combo of salt and peppery, and a touch of sweet. The salsa was bland and uninspiring. I had a carnita taco and a mole chicken taco. Those are the Small sized street taco size. Unfortunately it only is served on one instead of two tortillas so it falls apart easily. Carnitas were well flavored, chicken was bland. Supposed to have pickled onions and apple... well, not on my taco. Disappointed. We also had the skillet with chips, kind of a bean-yellow cheese- spread dip like dish which was horrible: smell and taste of smoke overwhelming and cumin tasting. Just plain awful! So, yes I will come by for some weak drinks during a nice day on the patio, but I will not return just for the food.

Room with a view...really not a bad seat in the place

Atop the Gordon Hotel at 5th street market place, this is such a pleasant place to enjoy lunch/dinner. We visited during happy hour and as you can see, the plates were full and tasty. This gem is kind of hidden which I think lends itself to a serene atmosphere. Full bar and drinks are strong. If you haven't tried, visit and enjoy yourself!

After the restaurant downstairs failed big time, my party of five scrambled upstairs to see if we could get any food served to us in time to make our show 55 minutes later at the Hult Center. Carlita's came through BIG time!!! Quickly seated, extremely helpful and friendly waitress (Sami) and food (and drinks!) came out fast and delicious. We left 45 minutes after arriving - happy and full. Will definitely be back and spread the word! Recommend the Carlita's skillet & elote (street corn) off the cob. Tacos & Chips w/guacamole were delicious as well. Thank you for saving the evening Carlita's and staff!!

I had the Marry Me chicken meal, which had a delightful cream sauce with spinach, broccolini squash, and sun-dried tomatoes. The cream sauce was deliciously sweet and the chicken was as tender as I've had in almost forever. I also had a green salad with blue cheese dressing, which was very nice. A couple of my friends had cocktails and they thought they were very good. Other meals to my friends included the Poutine Fries; The breaded pork chop (schnitzel) and the shrimp pasta. One person had the hard cider and enjoyed that, and then of course, at the end of the meal, they have these delicious little chocolates two of us had them and one person had the chocolate pot re crème. I've lived here for around 5 years, and another 15 years up in Salem and this little restaurant is a gem in every respect. I've been to Rye at least 4 times since moving here. I had heard about it from friends and so my partner and I first tried it out and were highly impressed with the food, the servce and the ambiance. The menu is just a bit limited but between the specials and the menu offerings, there was plenty to choose from. Above all, what they do, they do very well. I and my partner ate at Rye three nights ago and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience in every way. AMBIENCE... The dining room is terrific. Lots of dark wood. The lighting of the room is especially conducive to privacy but not isolation. Inasmuch as it was raining to beat the band when we arrived, entering felt like a welcoming respite. The patrons' chatter was subdued but clearly they were having a great time. FOOD... We ordered cocktails (I enjoyed a Cocchi Rye whiskey cocktail which was delicious. The French onion soup I ordered was also very tasty and loaded with mozzarella atop the cup. I then dived into a "special" plate of a Chinook salmon fillet, finished perfectly and sitting on a bed or pureed squash. Excellent, I thought. Afterwards, we shared some sort of fruity pastry, sharing with two forks. SERVICE... From where I sat I could watch the bar activity, even the service window into the kitchen allowed me to watch all the activity. Our server was very efficient and cheerful and engaging without being overbearing in any way. AFTERTHOUGHTS: I will be coming back, of course. Rye is where you want to go to have a very good time eating out. You're not going to spend an arm and a leg to eat there but Rye is definitely not Denny's. I think this was my fourth trip there and all four times I felt thoroughly satisfied in every way.

Ordered the Ikura onigiri and the Japanese Sweet Potato and the Agadashi Tofu. (I asked for miso butter on the side for me because I have found it overwhelms the potato which is seasoned really wonderfully). The Ikura Onirigi was simple and excellent. The place was packed, but thankfully we were seated quite quickly with a 5-10 minute wait. The interior is cozy and welcoming. It's dimly lit with mood lighting on the tables. It felt lively since the tables were packed. We started by ordering the sake and shoyu flights and some fries with wasabi mayo while we explored the rest of their menu. We received the flights quickly. Both flights had 3 flavors and were tasty and fun to try. Each flight comes with a menu describing the flavor profile and how the drinks were made. The flavors of each flight were distinct and matched their descriptions. The fries with wasabi mayo were pretty basic fries. They were well seasoned, had a nice crunch, and the mayo had a subtle wasabi flavor without it being spicy. For our next round we ordered the salmon misoyaki, butternut squash, tofu kushiyaki, and steak kushiyaki. Unfortunately, our server forgot to bring our butternut squash, but we ended up being full with the rest of the food we ordered and just took it off our order. The salmon misoyaki was delicious - perfectly cooked, tender, and well seasoned. The mustard greens on the side added a nice sourness. The tofu kushiyaki was tender and flavorful. The steak kushiyaki was well-seasoned, but more well done than I preferred and a little tough. Next, we ordered the spinach goma ae and umeboshi unigiri. The spinach goma ae was such a pleasant surprise! It's a chilled spinach dish with a tamari/black sesame sauce that was refreshing mid-meal. Really good umami flavor! The umeboshi onigiri had the expected sharp salty/sour flavor that balanced well with the ratio of rice. Ended up dipping the umeboshi onigiri in the goma ae sauce to get every last drop. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake and créme brûlée. The cheesecake was just okay. The menu said there was sake and black sesame flavors, but apart from some black sesame dust on the plate we couldn't taste the sake/sesame. The texture was thick and not super smooth. It was a pretty heavy dessert and not very sweet. The créme brûlée was yummy. The custard was smooth and the crunchy caramelized sugar on top was a nice contrast in texture and flavor. The service itself was slow. We were waiting around 15 minutes between orders. Given, it was a busy night. However, we felt a bit forgotten as our server did forget to bring one of our dishes, we had to ask for our dessert menus twice, and we were accidentally served two basque cheesecakes instead of our order of cheesecake and créme brûlée. The staff were friendly, and quickly brought out the correct desserts at the end. I'd recommend ordering more dishes at once so you can enjoy more food in between orders. Would definitely come back again to try the rest of their menu. We wanted to try the Japanese sweet potato but they had sold out that night. The oysters, sashimi, and udon also looked quite good!
