Phenomenal cocktail bar tucked away from the hubbub of Public House & its related fooderies. The mixologists know their stuff and WOW! do they make some fine cocktails! My wife doesn't always have a beer, so I stumbled into Whiskey Lab on a sunny (albeit warm) June afternoon. The servers will make you pretty much anything you want, but there is also a rotating/seasonal menu with their featured drinks. Whiskey Lab has clearly put a lot thought and creativity into their featured cocktails, so if you're open to something new, then that's where I would point you. I opted for the 'You Can Call Me Rose', a spectacular melange of vodka & cognac (I know, right?) splashed about with a mango base and adorned with dried rose petal pieces. Oh, but what would an artisanal cocktail be with a spritz of rose water? Yeah, that too. Result: ZAM! a cocktail even my wife thought was spanking, and she is a hot 'no' on anything mango. I didn't tell her, of course... Great seating options if the weather if agreeable, either in the small courtyard area or in the apses, or even in the bar if it ain't too stuffy (Oregon summer, y'know). Service is slow and Bartender's are unfriendly. Also, I tried one cocktail with well bourbon and then paid extra for a second with top shelf bourbon. They tasted EXACTLY the same. Because of such slow and unfriendly service at the bar, I opted to order my second drink from my table at the Public House. A literal 10 second walk from the bar. I did get my drink faster. But, I won't be paying that $35 cent "Convenience Fee" ever again. All-in-all, I'm very unimpressed! read more

Service was fast. I ordered a drink that had a bunch of ingredients in it, and rather than be a knuckle dragging moron by asking for a higher shelf liquor I opted for the purposefully chosen booze that came with it. I decided after that to order a drink to my table. But rather than gripe about a convenience charge like a paper thin skinned Raggedy Andy doll, I sat back and enjoyed the delicious jalapeno margarita from the rustic yet comfortable booths. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews here--this is such a fun spot to grab cocktails! If you're unfamiliar with whiskey lab, it's part of the Public House in the Washburne district of Springfield. Public House has an area with beer and cider on tap as well as wine, they have a variety of restaurants to choose from (kind of like a food hall), and they have the whiskey lab for cocktails. You can order from any or all of the above and sit anywhere within the establishment, including an outdoor (and heated in the winter) picnic area. The bartenders are friendly and helpful in suggesting drinks, so don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. Our favorites are the smoky sidecar and the inoculation. The drinks are a bit sweeter in my opinion, but very good. They also have a variety of straight distilled drinks to choose from, including some very high quality scotch's (try lagavulin, laphroig or macallan). read more

Yesterday, I was with a friend in the Whiskey Lab when two customers at the bar informed the bartender that Trump had been shot, but survived. The bartender loudly proclaimed her dissatisfaction that he had survived. "WHY, WHY had the shooter missed?!" She made a scene for a little while, not considering the fact that she represented a business, nor that paying customers just might not be as hateful as her. The whole thing was disgusting. Since then, I've been disappointed in myself for not confronting her. As I write this, sadly, I know that most people in the bar probably felt like her, and that the owners possibly agree with her, after all, they do the hiring and she's not unique there. My husband and I have been enjoying the drinks at this establishment since they opened, even though most of the employees are pretty arrogant, flippant, sometimes downright rude. Not all, but most act like they are annoyed by your presence. It's gotten worse over time. While I'm here.......usually, we really enjoy the music, except for one time when they were playing rap music and we were subjected to the N-word over and over, B's and Ho's, and sexually explicit lyrics. I was shocked it was being played as if that is fine! I'm not sure why we kept coming back. Oh yeah, because of the Ginger Bee cocktail! Well, that's gone from the menu now and the hateful bartender said she couldn't make it. Okay, fine, I ordered something else. Lastly, while we tolerated the arrogant bartenders for years, yesterday was too much. We're done. We don't fit in with these kinds of people. Been here a few times with my wife. We love this place. Drinks are tasty, unique, good selection of booze. As long as you're not a dumba*s, the staff is very pleasant. Groovy group of guys and gals. Very disappointed with my visit to the Whiskey Lab on Saturday, May 22. The new covid restrictions have really put a damper on the experience. Trying to order by phone was an experience in itself. The server and bartender tried to help...sort of. When I finally received by drink it was awful. The bartender, he was snarky and a bit rude. We have visited several other establishments along Main Street that day and we actually had our servers come to our table to order. The food was terrific at Planktown & The Tiki Bar. I will not be going back to the Public House until this order by phone thing is done away with. Ridiculous. read more

I've been here multiple times, loved the warm environment and delicious drinks. This is my first time back here in a long while and I have to say I'm quite disappointed, mainly with the attitude and drink. I ordered a double whisky of a mid shelf whisky, the bartender poured the two shots and put another ounce back in the bottle. Maybe it's because it was the last of an import? I questioned this and she said, "Yep, two ounces". I have many friends in the industry and I live with a bartender. Bar ounces are 1.5 ounces. Disappointing to pay $20 and be shorted a full ounce. I also have a lot of patience for people in the industry because I know what they deal with. Didn't care that service was slow, was polite and patient. Not very warm. My spouse and I have been to the Whiskey Lab before and we had a great time. My spouse loves trying different whiskeys so it was a major plus for him. I'm not a fan of whiskey so I drank one of their specialty drinks and was pleased. This was when they first opened. We came back a few more times and had similar great experiences. Then, we decided to go back for another time. We noticed that they were carrying more of a variety of alcohol so we asked the male bartender about it and he said that they were trying to cater to more clientele. Great! we thought. My spouse asked for a Bookers and Seven and I asked for a Long Island. That's when the female bartender said that they couldn't make the long island. They clearly had the ingredients to make the drink. I then said no problem and asked if they could make me something else. She promptly told me that they do not serve any drinks like that or wouldn't as they don't know how to charge them out. At that point she should have suggested something but it was very obvious that she didn't want our business so we left and didn't get to drink there period. I would give it 1 star but I do know it is a great place if you like to drink whiskey at a public house. We won't be back. read more
