I've worn contact lenses for seven years and have hopped around to my share of optometrists and ophthalmologists and I have to say that Dr. Nguyen's office rocks. I had my first appointment yesterday -- a general exam and contact lens fitting. The service is extremely personal and friendly. When I called to make the appointment, it was Dr. N himself who answered and made the appointment for a morning that same week. The eye exam was very thorough, which is important to me as someone with a family history of eye problems. When I arrived for the exam, Dr. N himself took me through the routine tests -- checking peripheral vision, pressure in the eye, etc. -- explaining everything along the way. After the contact lens exam, he dilated my eyes to check for all those bad things like macular degeneration or little tears on the eye, etc. that are hard to detect without dilation. He did end up noticing that my eyeballs were being suffocated by my contact lens wearing, and gave me some options to help my poor eyes breathe. Though I hate wearing glasses, I was grateful that he cared enough to keep my eyes healthy and gave me more than one option to make sure I would actually follow through. The general exam, plus contact exam was very reasonable at $134, and my 20% discount from Blue Shield made it even easier on my wallet. read more

I hadn't had my eyes checked in over a year, I called in on a Saturday and to my surprise, I received an appointment the same day. I had never received such a thorough examination. Dr. Nguyen went in depth about my eyes, my astigmatism, and all my questions/concerns. Dr Vu was very friendly and they were both very helpful when it came to picking out my glasses. My eye exam consisted of about 6 or seven different test. The doctor explained to me what each test did and why it would be beneficial to go through with each one. No one ever looked into my astigmatism and balance so much. I felt well informed and confident of my decision to go to this location within the first few tests. Of course, I had seen other reviews and even heard from my girlfriend about cheaper optometrists in the Garden Grove/Westminster area, but after finding this small office in Fullerton I have no problem having Dr. Nguyen become my regular optometrist. The price wasn't as low as I had hoped but I don't mind supporting independent businesses who genuinely care for their customers and perform in such a professional and friendly manner. The glasses selection here fit my needs and I was able to find stylish glasses and even name brands to fit my huge head =). For once, I'm actually looking forward to receiving my glasses after such an outstanding examination. read more

I've been a 4 eyed kid for over 16 years, so I definitely had my share of optometrists and air blowing in my eye. Dr. Nguyen is passionate about eyes and I've never encountered someone who cared so much about eyes. I was there for 1.5 hours for my appointment. At other places, they rush you in and out so they can make more money, but it's not like that here. Dr. Nguyen informed me about my eyes and took the time to explain in detail what he was doing and why he was doing it. I really appreciate that he took his time examining my eyes. I went to Dr. Argarth when I was a kid & a little bit into my adulthood, before he retired. I was a little nervous, at first, going to see Dr. Nyguen, but I received the same friendly, delicate, thorough care as ever. Dr. Nyguen even preformed a few tests I'd never had done before, which brought to light a minor problem I hadn't known about. He and his staff are always extremely caring and want to be sure you are well informed of all your options and why they're preforming the tests. They help you pick out frames that will look best on you, and explain which lense options would be right for your situation. I drive in from Riverside and have no qualms about making the long trek for such outstanding care. I made a point of telling my family about how much I enjoyed my appointment. If you've never been there before, the office can be little bit hard to find. It's hidden in its own little shopping center, next to the Post Office. read more

I had a wonderful first time experience at this office. Dr. Nguyen has a very outgoing character which made me feel very comfortable. I've recommended a few of my friends to his office and they seem to feel the same. Such a family/friend atmosphere that it makes everything so much easier. I called to get set an appointment and I was scheduled the very next day. That's always a Plus! When it came time to pick my glasses, the optician was very sweet and nice helping me pick out the correct glasses that would fit me best. The prices on the glasses was very reasonable. OK, this is hands down the NICEST most CARING optometry office in southern california! I can honestly say that there are no doctors out there that genuinely care for their patients more than these two doctors here. Dr Nguyen is my boyfriend's optometrist, and I am a patient of his wife, Dr. Vu! We truly feel a sense of sincerity when we are in their office. They have some great frame selections and they are super cute and comfy!!! i love their higher end collections because they pick out some really unique looking frames! i've gotten a pair of Koali Frames from the office, and i constantly get compliments on it because it's so different from all other frames out there! My boyfriend's prescription is not as high as mines, so he doesn't need to wear glasses, so he usually just gets RayBan sunglasses (POLARIZED) he loves that stuff! My daughter came to see Dr. Nguyen a few years ago and so this year when I was shopping around for an optometrist I came in here to inquire on how much an exam would be since I'm not using insurance. I spoke with Dr. Nguyen himself. I ended up choosing Caring Eyes Optometry over Costco, Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, and Target Optometry. His contact and eyeglass exam is $90. Yup, you read right, for both exams, as in together!! So the price initially brought me in, but his customer service has made me a lifelong patient. Dr. Nguyen was very thorough in his examination, and very patient. My daughter was being fitted for contacts and both he and Francesca were very patient during the process which took a while. Once fitted with the contacts he brought her back to the exam room and examined her vision again. He wasn't happy with the results, so he had her try on another brand and examined her vision once more. He sent us home and we didn't order contacts right away. He wanted to see how we did after a week. This is not what I expected. He took the extra time to make sure that these were the right fit for us before committing to ordering. What a stand up guy! I truly felt like he took his time and answered all my questions. In addition he made sure that we were correctly fitted. He took the extra time and went the extra mile. Maya Angelou said it best: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This is the best optometrist I have ever been to. They have a great selection of eyewear. I went in and got prescription sun glasses. They were ready within a week. I loved them so much, I went back in a few months later to get new lenses in my current glasses (I love my old frames so much, otherwise I would of gotten new ones there!). Best customer service! Dr. Nguyen and his staff are very professional and genuinely care for their customers. Last year I was getting prescription sunglasses. There was a mix up and I had to wait a few weeks more because the first time the wrong prescription was put in and then the second time the wrong color lens was put in. I was also getting new lenses put in to my regular glasses at the same time and Dr. N felt so bad about the sunglasses that he surprised me with new frames for my glasses (exact same style as the ones I had). I didn't really care about waiting longer and it wasn't really Dr. Nguyen's fault but he was so apologetic and he's such a nice guy. Went in again this last week to get another pair of prescription sunglasses (I lost the pair I got last year -_-). When I went in to pick them up today, Dr. N told me I overpaid by $16 and gave me a refund. How honest. I'll definitely continue coming back here and recommend Dr. Nguyen to anyone looking for an optometrist. read more

I wanted contacts so badly for the last couple of years and the last optometrist I went to said it wasn't possible for me since my eyes weren't "settled." I made an appointment here just to see if I would get a different answer and I'm so glad I did! Dr nguyen was so incredible. He listened to what I had to say, agreed with what I wanted and I was in and out of there with my first pair of contacts in 30 min. His assistant was very helpful, too and very patient with teaching me the basics with contacts. It's been about a year since I started coming to Dr. John Nguyen's practice, and unfortunately it's been a bit of a roller coaster as far as my eye health is concerned. It puts me in a unique position to write a review from the perspective of someone who ran into a few more issues with his eyes over the course of a year than most. I feel very fortunate that I can rely on Dr. Nguyen to be as committed to living up to the Caring Eyes name as any professional I've ever met. He dedicates at least an hour of his time to perform an eye exam on each patient, and that's a deliberate decision made in order to be as comprehensive and informative as he can be during your visit. He was open to questions I had during my visits and answered a majority of them with explanations that were easy to understand. He was always forthright with his diagnoses and I never felt like I was in the dark about any tests or procedures he performed. I ran into an eye problem that was as persistent a health issue as I've ever dealt with, and Dr. Nguyen was there to guide me through the road to recovery every step of the way. He wrote prescriptions and kept the fact that I wasn't insured at the time in mind, assuaged any concerns I had about stronger medication (and their side effects) he had recommended, and did a remarkable job of balancing the medicine with what I felt comfortable doing. I can't say enough about how considerate Dr. Nguyen has been every time I've been in his office. You are doing your eyes (and wallet) a disservice by not checking out Caring Eyes Optometry if you live anywhere near Dr. Nguyen's practice. read more

I am a new patient of Dr. Nguyen, and I must say i LOVE this office. I have a few friends who have been coming here since the other doctor was still practicing, and they reccommend this office to me. Dr. Nguyen, was very funny and helpful throughout the whole exam. What I liked the best was the friendly atmosphere that they have in their office. The optician Beanie helped me picked out some really CUTEE frames, and i only had to pay like 45 bucks for my new Juicy frames with my insurance...I saw these plastic Dior frames, that I also want, but Im going to have to come back and get them...plus u get like 20% off your second pair, so im gonna save up! This review is based off of the cleanliness of the establishment. For a place that you go to for eye exams, (any medical-type establishment should be clean) you would think that it would be a lot cleaner and that you would have a little bit more pride in your office to make it so. The exam room I was taken to was so unorganized and dusty that I was afraid to even have the equipment placed up to my face. There was a desk with loose lenses, paperwork, the stick you cover an eye with, an old 80s-style desktop fan (nothing wrong with the fan, just mentioning the things on the desk), and whatever else just splattered about. The dr tried handing me the stick you cover your eye with and I had to ask if it was clean. Dude, I saw it sitting underneath a bunch of papers and other shit, do you really think I wanna hold that again my face? MY EYES?? Nope. He wiped it down for me. Then he wiped down only the parts of the equipment that would go on my face. The rest of the parts of the equipment were caked with dust. Even the power strip was so caked with dust that it wasn't even white anymore! Ew! If it wasn't for him wiping it all down in front of me, I wouldn't have had my exam. Here's the deal, doc, make the time. If you can't make the time to clean, have someone do it for you. Splurge a little. It's worth it. I don't need some fungus growing in my eyeballs due to the lack of respect that you have for something you've worked so hard for-your own office. Having such a dirty place only makes me wonder how well you wipe down everything in between your patients. read more

I got my glasses today (sooner than expected) and I absolutely love them. I had put off getting my glasses because I was dreading the process, however I yelped this place and I was not disappointed. Dr. Nguyen was very professional and polite. I also appreciated Jennifer, who was cordial and very pleasant (shout out to her to her for her awesome vibes). I love this place. Everyone is very nice and welcoming, and the tests are very thorough. Dr. Nguyen explained all the tests he did, and what they meant for my eyes/prescription. Julie Ann was very helpful with selecting my frames, also. I did end up having some problems with my glasses once I received them (I have really sensitive eyes, and they were having trouble adjusting to the larger frames I had chosen), but I went back and Dr. Nguyen explained what was happening, and let me pick new frames! I honestly picked this optometrist because it was done the street from where I live, but I am forever grateful that I did!!! Both optometrist are married to each other and couldn't have asked for better Dr's to be caring for my eyes. They are both knowledgeable and very friendly. My last appt I had to bring my 3 kids for lack of a sitter and Dr. John Nguyen was very patient with my kids as they ran around.
