Wedding Atelier - New York City…read more Wedding Atelier completely ruined my dress during alterations. The cups that were sewn in were two sizes too small, causing my bust to bulge out of the dress. The underwire cut into my chest, pushing one breast to the right and the other upward. With every fitting, the situation got worse rather than better -- leaving me in tears with my wedding only a week away. I ultimately had to take the dress to another seamstress just to salvage it. To make matters worse, after three fittings, they had not even completed a hem. Wedding Atelier charged $1,300 for alterations -- payment required at the time of purchase -- and refused to refund a single dollar despite the damage they caused. The owner, Carrie, was completely unsympathetic and unwilling to take any accountability for what happened. She is unethical,. If you want to protect yourself from unnecessary heartache and stress in the lead-up to your wedding day, I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere.

My consultant was Debra and right off the back, she was lovely! She had such a great sense of humor and allowed me to be open and honest and what I was looking for. We stayed within my budget (yay!) and she was so patient and helpful. I did end up finding my dress, which I didn't expect to because the dress that I ended up buying was VERY different than what I came in wanting (sounds like an episode of the show, am I right?) but it was the perfect dress for me. Debra was legit! The staff was so lovely and kind. It was a perfect day.

There is a huge variety of styles, designers, and options, which is great if you want to try on a wide range of dresses in one appointment. That said, the overall experience felt much less personal than some of the other bridal salons I visited in New York City. It felt a bit like a factory of brides, with a giant room where many brides are trying on dresses at the same time. The mirrors were also surprisingly small and free-standing, and I felt very close up to them, which made it hard to really see myself clearly in the dresses. I also would have liked to step off the podium more to see how the dresses looked naturally, but my stylist seemed to prefer that I stay on it (and of course dresses tend to look better when you're elevated on a podium). The selection is definitely a major strength, and I understand why Kleinfeld is so well known. However, there are other bridal salons in New York City that feel much more personalized, spacious, non-judgmental, and relaxed. I also noticed that some of the stylists standing around elsewhere came across as judgmental, which took away from the overall atmosphere a bit. Overall, I'm still giving 5 stars because of the dress variety and the iconic experience, but I would say brides should go in knowing that it may feel less intimate and personalized than other boutiques in the city. I went on a weekday to avoid paying for the experience. I'd recommend others do the same, as I don't think the fee is worth it. My stylist also was the least knowledgable about dresses compared to other salons.

From the moment I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by how large and beautiful the store was. Then I got paired with the AMAZING Rosa, and she truly made the entire experience! When I tell you she made me feel beautiful, comfortable, and never pressured, I mean it. From the very first gown we tried on all the way to me saying YES TO THE DRESS, Rosa listened to what I liked, stayed well within my budget, and somehow always knew exactly what to pull next. We found my dress and were even able to add a few custom details to make it feel even more like me. I am SO happy with my choice and cannot wait to see the final product! The owner was also amazing, and honestly everyone in the store was so welcoming. But Rosa was truly the sweetest--patient, kind, knowledgeable, and such a huge part of making this experience so special. Thank you, Rosa, for helping me find my dress!

A&M Couture in Greenpoint has horrible customer service toward African Americans. I came in looking…read morefor a blue dress for my daughter's Sweet 16. When we first walked in, one of the girls pointed me to the blue dresses and never came back. The next thing I know, she's helping a Spanish family and completely ignored us. Thankfully, another young lady with glasses stepped in and was extremely sweet and helpful. If it wasn't for her, I would've left. I rented the dress that same day and paid $600. The day I came to pick up the dress, the lady behind the counter asked my best friend (who is 36) if she was the one trying on the dress because she "looked too big and old." How disrespectful and unprofessional. Then they gave me a bouquet with missing rhinestones. I didn't make a big deal about it, but I did ask them to note it, and I never once asked for a discount. They were rushing us out of the store and had already zipped the dress before we could fully look at everything. When we asked one of the workers -- the same girl who ignored me the first day -- to unzip the dress so we could compare the tiara and bouquet, she sucked her teeth and said something to her coworker in Spanish. I stayed quiet because I refused to let anyone ruin my daughter's special day. When I returned the dress, they spent forever inspecting the dress, tiara, and bouquet while speaking to each other in Spanish the entire time. Then they claimed there were two holes in the dress and took $40 from my deposit for "alterations" on tulle material that costs almost nothing to fix. I took my remaining $160 and left. I would never recommend this place to African Americans. The environment felt unwelcoming, disrespectful, and discriminatory from beginning to end.

From the beginning of the process there, I was honestly a bit overwhelmed with all the options I had. There were so many things I didn't even know you could customize about a suit that I could pick from freely. Emily did an wonderful job guiding me through my options and helping me pick the right choice when she could tell I was in over my head. In the end the suit I got ended up looking better than I could have imagined. I got tons of compliments on it during my wedding and loved being able to brag that it was made custom for me and I got to pick every little thing about it. I wish I could get every piece of clothing I wear from them. It was just such a dream and I felt supported from the beginning of the process through every fitting to the day when I got to take my suit home in their robust and well made garment bag. Everything about the process felt catered to me and I could have asked for anything at any time and they would have found a way to accomodate me. I can't wait to have a reason to go back to them for my next suit.

*updated stars after communication from owner*…read more I think the quality at Alan David is very good--my previous suit from them is excellent and gets frequent compliments. That's why I returned in May 2025 to order a sportcoat. Unfortunately, the customer service this time fell short of my expectations. By late August, I realized I hadn't heard anything about the order and called for an update. I was told the fabric had been out of stock and later delayed due to the factory's vacation schedule, which seemed reasonable enough. In September, they contacted me for a fitting, but the appointment date inadvertently fell on a holiday when the store was closed. I rescheduled for October. At that visit, I was told the jacket would be ready in a few weeks, but again, no one reached out. In December--more than six months after ordering--I called once more and received a text saying they'd follow up with an estimated date. When I expressed frustration about the lengthy delay, they acknowledged that the initial order had been submitted late, which contradicted earlier explanations. To their credit, they took responsibility and offered a generous store credit, which was appreciated but not expected. The reason for my three-star rating isn't the final product, which was fine, but the lack of proactive communication. I had to repeatedly contact them just to understand what was happening with an order that had been paid for months earlier. Even my salesperson at Macy's is more proactive--and I don't spend thousands of dollars at a time there. My husband has had consistently positive experiences at Alan David, so I do believe my situation was an outlier and wouldn't discourage others from trying them. They ultimately handled the service recovery well; I only wish the issue had been acknowledged and addressed earlier. My hope is simply that their follow-up and order tracking become more reliable moving forward because otherwise, you might be left with the feeling that once you've paid, nobody really cares.
