Took a vehicle in to have some tire sensors replaced, front and rear brakes looked at and was quoted over $2000! They also said the battery needed replaced which could be true. $600 for four tire sensors, $1400 for front and rear pads with turning the rotors. Before we gave the go them the green light we called discount tire on the sensors. Their price was $270 out the door! We called brakes plus and they quoted us $220 for fronts and $220 for rears and that was the upgraded pads and turning the rotors! Car X wants to charge 3 times what other shops are charging. Seeing 2 cars in their lot versus the other shops are full of customers should have been a red flag. Car X is straight up robbery! read more

Dropped car off for overnight for a scheduled oil change the following morning. The next morning when to tried to pick it up things did not go well. When I first entered my vehicle I noticed they had removed my old oil sticker and threw it on my floor instead of the garbage. Then, I started my car and my "check engine" light immediately came on. Once I pulled it up to the front door to ask about the light I could see oil pouring out the bottom of my vehicle. They eventually got the issue fixed and I left to than notice they didn't reset my oil life indicator. Not a huge deal, but this is something they should be doing for customers, especially because most cars these days have them. They recommended a brake flush...... I don't feel real confident with the oil change let alone let them touch my brakes. Very poor first experience! read more

They get five stars for the service, but these lose a star for the price. My son's old Jeep GC blow a high pressure hose. Part is $58 bucks at AutoZone, but Car-X seems to think theirs is worth $195. That, and some pretty pricey labor put the bill for the replacement at well over $500 bucks. I should have done it myself, or at least shopped around, but I lacked the motivation. As far as service goes, the team is great. They were polite, friendly, and professional. They explained the problem and also let me know what it would take to replace the pump should it be bad, etc. They did let me know the cost up front, and I did elect to do it anyway (so I shouldn't complain). The do great work, have a clean and nice facility, but they're just a little too pricey. read more

We blew a tire on our drive from St Louis to Urbandale. We put on a spare and stopped at CarX on our way into town. At 5:15 on a Friday evening they patched our tire on the spot and swapped it with our spare. They got us in and out within 20 mins. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I stopped in to try this CarX and new location. I get a discount because I drive Uber. 2020 Accord so synthetic and Tire Rotation. Made an Appointment for noon on a Thursday- Slow time driving - got done and paid. I headed out driving (working) and got a ride. My low tire light came on, so I tried to re calibrate, again low tire. I had to lose my ride and get my car looked at per safety of my riders. So I was down and lost money- I went to the Carx in Johnston - and my tire was low and not inflated. So Waukee didn't inflate my tires properly. The next day I called and spoke to Rick Houston the Service Advisor- explained what happened and how I was down and lost money. His response- to bad- sorry- glad Johnston fixed you. No offer of a discount on my next oil Change. I get one - about every 7 weeks. Needless to say the interaction was not great and I won't be recommending this location of carx to anyone. The owner of the location really should be aware of the service levels at the location. read more

I want to say great things. I guess the best thing is that I did leave with what I am told is a new and working power steering pump after returning it twice. Felt talked down to and calls to get info were painful. It still whines and I'll be taking it to another place for shocks/struts so might have them check it out to confirm since Carx sent me away the second time with whining power steering although this last time is much quieter. (The first and second replacements were defective I'm told- I was later told the first two were refurbished but I'd swear no one told me and that's not what I was quoted). From first drop to leaving with final repair it took exactly 2 weeks. On the plus side the serpentine belt that was replaced seems to have been working the first time. read more

This place is a rip-off. They overcharge for everything including oil change $120! I once left my car for an oil change and they did not change the oil or the washer fluid and claimed they did. Now they are charging $120 for oil change when Firestone or Tiresplus charge $70-$80. They don't inspect tires or do a general check as they claim they do. If they are busy don't count on having a good service. The management just tends to overcharge and find "urgent" or "serious" problems that needs to be done at their store "immediately" for an outrageous amount! DO NOT GO THERE!!! read more

my 2022 Colorado was brought in for an oil change with a coupon for 39.95 with 5 quarts of oil. they took the coupon and said ok it'll be done shortly. when it was done, they charged me $111 and change. they lied to me and said it needed fill synthetic oil per Chevrolet. I contacted my dealer and they said no such rule. manager Rick says they can take the oil out and put the regular oil in. are f-ing kidding me? don't use this place for any services. Im not sure if it was CarX's fault but, this is the only thing I can think of. Ever since I've gotten my oil changed at CarX on Alices road, in Waukee, my car has had trouble starting up. I got it changed around early August and I drive a Nissan Altima. This is my second time being here and they replaced my synthetic oil and the oil filter for 65 dollars. They were nice and gave me 5 dollars off. My car was starting fine (it would take less than a second to start up) Then gradually up until now, it became more difficult for it to start up. Now it wont even start. You can hear it trying but giving up instantly. They say they didn't touch any other parts that have to do with starting up my car, but they also took out the air filter to show me how dirty it was( I replaced it myself 10 minutes after). So this means they were touching other things and I don't know what else they have done. The reason why my car wont start anymore could also be my fault, but I don't know what I did to make it from not starting - only started after my oil change read more

I brought my flat tire in to have it patched. Car-X appears to be constantly busy, but the front desk greeted me with kindness and gave me the attention I expect and appreciate. They took the tire on the spot and said that it would get repaired in a couple hours despite the scheduled appointments they were working through. I had my oil changed last week and they over charged me for everything. I specifically told them that my front passenger tire must be leaking air, because I have to air it up all the time. When I left, my low tire pressure light never went off. When I got home, both of my tires on my passenger side were low. My front passenger tire kept leaking air. When I called back, they told me that they fixed my BACK passenger tire. I told them that I was clear about my front tire, they told me I was wrong. Do NOT go here. They will try to screw you over and they will not work with you. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

When I dropped the car off I explained I had already tried putting refrigerant in it but the air was not getting cold so it need serviced. They called a few hours later and asked for permission to fill it with refrigerant and I asked them not to unless the a/c was working properly. They called again an hour later and said they fixed it and it was now blowing 40* air. I picked it up and nothing was fixed but they charged me $300 including the $180 for refrigerant I asked them to not put it. After telling them it wasn't fixed they looked at it again and said the AC compressor was broke (so it couldn't possibly have been blowing cold air). When I asked for a refund Derik at the front desk told me to google their corporate office and find a number to call because he was unable to do anything for me. Derik was very incompetent and did not listen to me throughout the process. I essentially am out $300 just for them to tell me my AC compressor was out after 6 hours read more

I spent $1,200 6/22/19 on car repairs with Car-X and my sons car lasted 7 hours before it started having the very same issues. The manager couldn't tell what was wrong but offered to have me pay more to fix more things but couldn't guarantee it would fix the problem. I probably spent almost $2,000 with in a month. I will not be returning for car repairs. I have taken it to another shop and the car has been absolutely great since. Car X has coupons online however even if you tell them they don't apply it. I went for an oil change tire rotation and wiper blade for $40 I said one tire loses air and wanted them to look at it. They were going to take a look at it. I paid $70 and a few days after being there my tire light came on because it was low. They didn't rotate the tires or look at the tire for any holes. I filled the low tire up with air and it was not rotated. I don't even think I got new wipers. $70 for an oil change only. I'll go to midus or Walmart next time. My car wouldn't start. I called to ask if I could have the car towed into them and try to explain with the issue waz I was having... The answer was yes then I said would you like to know what's wrong with the car and they said to go ahead and Have it towed in. The claim ways they did all of the Diagnostics and believed it was a fuel pump and out of their realm to fix... It was towed to the dealership where they said what Carx believed was wrong was incorrect and there was not a problem the fuel pump. I called back to car X to report And someone identified himself as a manager and could not give me a list of what diagnostics had been done on my car... He then transferred me to the general manager who told me what they had Looked at. Every time I spoke he talked over the top of me. My conclusion is they do not know what they are doing at this shop.
