Honest mechanics??? Absolutely! New ownership but the same great service. We are lucky to have such a good shop right in the neighborhood. We drive high mileage cars and I highly recommend this shop to keep your cars running tip top. read more

I can't recommend Higgins Plaza Service enough! The level of customer service here is truly outstanding. Tars does an excellent job working on my car. He is always thorough, knowledgeable, and someone I trust to get the job done right every time. Steph is wonderful at the front, making check-in smooth and easy and always so polite and helpful when it comes time to pick up and pay. The owners, Todd and Nick, are also great to work with and clearly care about both their customers and their team. You can tell the entire staff takes pride in what they do. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and goes above and beyond to provide a great experience. It's not easy to find a shop you can fully trust, but this is definitely one of them! read more

Instead of using a multi-meter to diagnose the problem they just replaced the part. Part was fine car still doesn't work.

I've gone to Higgins for years. Staff are great and they gets jobs done quickly!quality work

Been taking my car here for years. Nice people, honest in what they do. I love recommending g and supporting this local business.

Great crew. Fair rates, awesome work. A+ shop for big or small jobs.----------------------------------------------------

This place is awesome everyone that worked there was super professional they helped my elder mother out and didn't try and take advantage of her she got a new engine and they did it real quick and for a great price. read more

Took our VW Jetta for a purchase inspection and we were thoroughly impressed with Nick's knowledge, comprehensive inspection, and overall customer support. Highest recommendation. read more

I normally don't post a five-star review but I've had years and years of experience with the Higgins Auto plaza. Not only are they honest but they are good at what they do. They go out of their way to provide you with great customer service all the time. I've had old cars and I've had new or relatively new cars. in both cases they give you an honest appraisal of what you need and what you might need coming up. They provide all kinds of car repair from simple things like oil changes and windshield wiper changes to something more complex like brakes or transmission or engine work and they work with classical cars and brand new cars American cars and foreign cars. I can't recommend them enough for the type of business that they are it's really quite unique in today's world. read more

What a great group of mechanics! They seem to love their work and helping customers. Very helpful and seemed very trustworthy. If business is any indication then they are excellent!!! I'm going back for sure. read more

I've been taking all of my vehicles to this auto shop for about 5-8 years now give or take and from our old minivan, to my old Chevy bucket, to my current truck and my wife's car they are always reliable. They are honest, they explain if you're not auto savvy what's wrong with your vehicle and the best part is they are affordable and you can tell they're not trying to price gouge you and overcharge. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. I have never gone anywhere else since the first time I stopped in to have a tire patched. I will never go anywhere else. We bought our vehicles from two separate dealers here in town and outside of using up our free oil changes, we have never taken our vehicles anywhere but Higgins. They aren't a huge auto shop, but the positive, honest, inexpensive experience you'll get there is. Some places can't be replicated, and this is definitely one of them. read more

Trustworthy, friendly, and competitive pricing. I had my first experience with Higgins for a routine oil change. At drop off, I mentioned a loud vibration in hopes they could pinpoint the issue. They didn't hesitate. Pat took it for a spin, I investigated the engine and did some research. He informed me that it was a bad engine mount. I paid for the oil change and was so thankful - no charge for diagnosing next steps! I made an appointment to return two days later. He was able to find a part $200 cheaper than the dealership. They have earned a customer for life with me and I would recommend them to anyone! read more

Quick service, even when my son took it there (& I had (mistakenly) arranged it be taken "else where". Did the work and had it finished the same day. read more

Higgins auto plaza is a fair and reliable company if you ever need repairs on your vehicle. Todd is an excellent mechanic and make sure that he explains everything that needs to be done and stays with in the budget which was quoted. I highly recommend Higgins read more

I have taken my vehicles to Higgins for years and have had great service and reasonable pricing. Recently, I needed to take my vehicle in to have some work done and have discovered that Rick has stepped back and his son Nick is now "running" the business. Being a female, I felt he quoted the price very high. I contacted a family member/mechanic out of state and he said it was Considerably more than what his shop would charge for the same services. I'm sad to see a business I trusted for years has changed so much. read more

The most honest mechanic I have ever been to. Not kidding when I say they look for ways to save you money. They suggested a reconditioned compressor for my 10-year-old SUV rather than a new one and saved me $200. Relatively easy to get in, even on Saturdays. read more

Stopped in due to an overheating car. Owner Pat Higgins and co-worker Keith were so generous and kind. They looked our car, topped off the fluids, and diagnosed the problem (a head gasket that was just starting to leak). We opted not to fix it then and there, but Pat didn't let us pay for the inspection and coolant. I wouldn't expect anyone to do that for free, but these folks seemed genuinely concerned for the safety and wellbeing of their customers. Plus, they were way nice and gave us a free calendar! read more

I had terrible, horrible service other places (Tuffy in West Des Moines) before I found Higgins. Other places would inflate prices, and it seemed like there was always something "wrong" with my car. Well fate has it, when my old car died and had to be towed, it was recommended we tow it to Higgins. Even though that car was officially declared deceased, I was amazed at how professional and straight forward the employees at Higgins were. To this day I still take my new car there for everything and they provide nothing but the best service. They will make the effort to get the best quotes for you and quality parts. I highly recommended! read more

You'll never need to shop for another mechanic after visiting Higgins Plaza Service. Keith has always been fair, consistent, and overly generous with his time in sharing his expertise to help us understand our car problems/options. Keith takes the time to get to know you personally and one time there was a simple fix (that still took up his time) and he didn't charge us. We have since moved to NE and my husband recently called Keith to review charges from an auto repair bill. Keith outlined how much his parts would cost and how much labor time the job would entail to help us understand that we were overcharged from another auto-shop. This place goes above and beyond.... wish they would re-locate so we can enjoy their services again! Thank you!!!! read more

Today, I stopped while driving down I80- headed to College World Series! Long story short - my rotated n balanced tired from yesterday in South Chicagoland area didn't have final full torque to driver side tires-- I truly he no idea what was happening !! This wonderful woman calmed me down n her husband made quick assessment w even quicker fix n even took a drive around block w me to verify noise gone!! Would not take any money -- incredible customer service n an answer to my prayers. My first ever review- found them via Yelp!! I'm at bar now n Omaha - lucky to be alive n truly thankful for this shop!!! Cheers read more

I called several times and Rick said he would come out and check out my car. I am a long-time customer of his but each time he never showed up and never called me back. That's not the way to treat a customer. Everybody else may give glowing reviews to this business, but when you treat an old customer like that, you don't deserve anything but contempt, which is all I have for Higgins Auto Plaza now. Shame on you, Rick Higgins. You get minus 100 stars from me. read more

We've been going to Higgins for 10 years. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. We've never been upsold and always get honest opinions. They always do their best to accommodate your needs too. I highly recommend their services. read more

The most honest mechanics I've ever dealt with. No mysterious additions at the last minute. No BS at all really. They fix the problem and don't create new ones. Don't get bummed out by the female counter lady, she isn't that friendly but who cares. read more

After getting screwed around by other places, I will be a lifetime customer of Higgins!! They not only took the time to explain what was wrong but also advised where I could save money! Rick is extremely knowledgable and explains things in detail. Keith was super helpful with an issue I had from a mess up with a former garage. Pat found something wrong right away that I've taken the car to multiple garages for over the last couple of years and was either told there was nothing wrong or they charged me for other parts that never fixed it. They are honest, sincere and human and they treat their customers with respect. read more

In January of 2017 in below zero weather I had a bad tire. They actually came out to my house, took the bad tire off and put on the spare so I could drive it to the shop. They sold me a new tire for less than I had paid for a new one just a year ago. I was shocked when I got the bill - considerably less than what I had expected for all they did. I won't go to anyone else anymore. They are great! read more

For twelve years I've used Higgins Plaza to recommend and install tires on our vehicles. When another local shop couldn't correctly balance some new tires for me, Higgins did it for less, properly, and quickly. With one vehicle years later, they spent more than an hour cleaning rust from the inside of the wheels to mount some new tires for me. There was no extra charge, they simply do high quality work. Another time, a new tire lost a belt. It drove in, mentioned it had less than 8,000 miles on it, and in 30 minutes they replaced the tire, no charge. read more

every time I bring a vehicle to Higgins Plaza Service, I am blown away by their small-town courtesy, prices, and genuine friendliness. if you don't have this kind of relationship with your current auto mechanic, you owe it to yourself and whatever you drive to check these folks out. today's example: since our last visit, we have replaced our old reliable Subaru outback (which they serviced regularly for years and did a brake job and other stuff for us as well) with a late-model Ford flex. before changing the oil, the mechanic asked if I new what type of oil we have been using (synthetic or non-synthetic or otherwise)? he said there were no stickers or notices anywhere which would indicate which had been used before. I called the dealer (pinicon Ford in independence, iowa--another 5-star review for them, too) and spoke with the mechanic who looked our vehicle up in their computer. now we know, and so does Higgins. and our car is being filled with the 5w20 synth blend now as we speak. thanks, Higgins (and Pinicon Ford)! read more

This place was amazing and inexpensive! They understood the problems immediately and didn't try to upsell me.

While recently traveling through Des Moines from Wisconsin, heading to western Kansas, the back brakes on my 2005 Chevrolet Uplander fell completely apart and I had no brakes at all in the rear of the van. What a predicament to be in. Immediately you are at the mercy of a strange mechanic and figure you will surely be taken advantage of. Did not happen! Through reading some of the references about Higgin's here on Yelp I gave them a call first thing in the morning. They allowed me to bring my van in immediately, got the parts ordered up and within approximately 2 hours from the initial call I had new rotors and rear brakes and was back on the road. I felt the price was absolutely perfect. I was treated with the utmost professionalism, received a job very well done and all for what I felt was an amazing price. I was completely relieved and happy with an unexpected repair well handled. I would HIGHLY recommend this service center for thorough, honest work by good mechanics; whether you are just passing through or are a resident of Des Moines. read more

I stop and wanted to tale to Rick. Apparently he was "TOO" busy to even acknowledge my presents. I was really disappointed in his very unfriendly & unprofessional attitude. I will not be going back! To bad there isn't "no stars" read more

Higgins has always been honest and never tried to over charge with my vehicles. There have been times where I don't think I could have fixed it myself any cheaper. They will only suggest fixing things that need fixed and not tack on a lot of unnecessary things. They are willing to explain what they are doing so I know exactly what is being fixed and how much it will cost before turning a wrench. Have even looked at things for no charge. I would suggest them to anyone. read more
