Captain Hooks was a place that I found through yelp reviews. They were rated pretty high. I had a taste for some chicken wings so I decided to stop in one afternoon to try them out. Once I arrived, they immediately took my order and I had a small wait for my food. I like the fact that they fry them immediately while you there instead of getting some that were under the light. I tried the wings. It was seasoned exceptionally well and I had one catfish fillet. The catfish was OK but the batter didn't adhere to the fish in some areas so I took one star off for that. I will definitely go back and try them again, maybe even some of the shrimp that they had.

Being a Milwaukee native, discovering this restaurant instantly brought joy to my heart. This is my favorite place to go and get fried chicken and I hadn't had pizza puffs since I was a kid. When my family wants fried chicken, they mean they want Captain Hooks, and we make the 30 minute drive. It's worth it every time.

I have been patronizing Captain Hooks for years. I used to have a out the food and service.. until yesterday. I called to order a livers and gizzards plate. I get there to pick up my food and when I arrived home, this is what I saw. Burnt, old food. The food, including the fries looked like they were cooked in 6 week old oil. The young lady at the counter, while she was polite to me, was rude to other customers. Captain Hooks have lost a loyal customer. Instead of focusing on opening more restaurants, focus on the loyal customers you have had for years.

My wife is currently on a dairy-free diet and wings w/o dairy batter is hard to come by. I was targeted by Captain Hooks on social media and I figure I give them a call to ask about their ingredients. They assured me multiple times the wings are dairy free so I went ahead an ordered. Wings were a hit! No issues with my wife's allergies...win all around! I ordered the 25 wing platter , which comes with fries and Hook's sauce on the side. The wings are excellent tasting, great seasoning and crispy! The fries are just ok but I'm not really there for the fries. The hooks dipping sauce is mayo/thousand island/pepper based - similar looks to like a Raising Caine's sauce...it was excellent! Will be back again and again!

After seeing g this on instagram for weeks I decided to give this a try. I went around 4 and the place was empty which made it easy to place my order and get my food swiftly. The gentlemen were very friendly and accommodating by going over the menu and making sure I got the best option. I got 2 fish and 3 whole wings which is a win in my book without a drink for $15. I was expecting a lot of flavor and sadly it was not, the flavor exists in the skin of the chicken and fish and that's where it stays. The fries were also not the most appetizing, just nubs. Maybe it's my pallet but it wasn't in the cards for me. Give it a try for yourself and make your decision.

    Look at all those sauces.

I've been wanting to try this place and in my day off my friend and I went. If you have a large group, be aware there is limited seating. This is more of a to-go place. I ordered the 10 wings which are whole wings with fries and bread for $17. My friend and her daughter got the 2 fish filets with 10 shrimp and fried okra. Her daughter got a hamburger with corn hush puppies. Everything was fried well, fresh, and well seasoned. I really liked the orange sauce they had. They had several sauce options. Will definitely be back. The staff was friendly and the turnaround wasn't too bad because they cook it fresh.

Love the wings and service. I am sad they changed the fries. Not a fan of the new ones.

I had the dirty rice and it wasn't my favorite, tasted like I make at home but with thicker chunks of celery that threw me off, flavor was good though. Had the garlic parm wings flats which came wet which I was excited for but the skin kept separating from the wing, the meat was good. Same curved counter, same stainless, same red shirts - and the same man in the cap and beard shucking my oysters, one perfect shell at a time. This place isn't fancy. It's Texas honest. A grounded ship ringed in sun-bleached shells, loud with beer, laughter, and knives hitting the hinge. Folks pack in - oil hands, students, suits - because here, money doesn't decide taste. If you want the Gulf, you come. The oysters are what the Gulf does better than anyone will admit: big, briny, and unapologetic. Pacific and Australian oysters are refined - polite, even. Ours carry warm salt, mineral depth, and a little river memory. They don't whisper; they speak Texas. Menu says a dozen; you get thirteen. That's not a promotion. That's culture. The Michelada? Many places pour a decent one. I won't judge. But drop a fat Gulf oyster in the glass and the drink wears its crown - the way Houstonians know it should. Fried catfish here sets a bar most won't clear: cornmeal crisp, clean-sweet flesh, no mud, no funk. In this part of the country--Texas and our neighbors in Arkansas - we don't just eat catfish; we raise it right and fry it right. That's geography, craft, and pride. Frog legs snap at the joint and stay tender at heart - quiet Southern luxury. Gumbo is Texas gumbo - thicker, smokier, steady. Not Cajun, not Creole; ours. Skip it and your body will notice. Nineteen years ago I had my first Michelada here. Nineteen years later, it's still the best - and that same shucker in the cap is still running the line like time never learned his name. This isn't nostalgia. It's continuity. This isn't "seafood night." It's Houston - served raw, hot, and true. And for anyone wondering, yes - whoever you are, if you want the real thing, you'll end up here. - Dr. C Born elsewhere. Refined by Texas salt & smoke.

We were asked about our drinks, ordered them and a dozen raw oysters. Server came back and took our order. Got the snow crabs with potato and sausage with the house seasoning that the server recommended. Also got 2 pounds of shrimp (paid extra for heads off) and the server made it seem like the heat level on the hottest was ghost pepper, next level up being habanero and then hot. Asked if we could sample the sauce and told no as they make each one individually. Being weary of blowing our tongues out we opted for less heat. Oysters came and they were a decent size. I had to ask for some crackers & horse radish, which what was brought to me was way more than one person would ever consume (no charge). Food came and I'm waiting on a bucket to toss my shells in. Finally had to ask and I was told that most people just put it on the table hence the tables being covered. The sauce on my crab was WAY too sweet. The heat level was too mild and the crab itself was hard to get out the shell. I asked for some melted butter and was told I would be charged for it. Overall I left still wanting more which isn't my usual. However I can say been there done that.

I was greeted by a younger guy who handed me the menu, but fortunately, I already knew what I wanted! Which was one of everything! But, I was solo on this day, so I had to have some restraint! I chose to go with the catfish basket, with 2 filets, fries (cajun), a side of mac and cheese, and a side of their specialty sauce that comes with crawfish! I had an appointment I was going to next, and I didn't think about how long it would take, but fortunately, it didn't take long at all. They drop the food to cook after you order, which I love!!! The catfish and fries were piping hot when they came out. Seasoned just perfectly for my taste! I'm glad I went with the two, so that I could take the other one home for later!!! I don't know how they season the fish, but keep doing what you're doing! I got the mac and cheese, it looked super good. It was cheesy and had the cheese pull that we all know and love. It wasn't my most favorite dish, it was missing a little something. BUT!!! When I added the side sauce with the crawfish in it, it became my favorite! Something about that combo just works! I believe it's the sauce they use in one of their pastas, but don't quote me on that! The sauce I used as a dip for everything, fries, mac and catfish. It is worth getting!
