Very ready for my first sit down meal after a stuffy flight, followed by the bus ride from hell, I would have eaten linoleum if you offered it. The kitchen crew was noticeably boisterous but having good clean fun while plugging along at their stations. Great service at the counter, guiding me towards what menu item to order as I clearly needed help. The catfish was well prepared, a homemade tartar would have really been a plus to this platter but its not yet to be. The lemon pepper seasoning is fantastic. The mild sauce is slightly flavored ketchup, but it's not bad. The space is clean and spacious, with two TVs. It's located approximately ten (10)-minute walking distance from the CTA Polk Pink Line station. Once getting out of the station, walk toward Ashland and stay on Ashland southbound until passing Roosevelt. It's within the shopping plaza where Jewel-Osco and other retailers are. It's not exactly hole-in-the-wall, but nothing was extraordinary to look at inside the kitchen and the dining room. Although they proclaim that they serve mainly fish and chicken, their menu is extensive and eclectic like crazy! I saw hotdogs, all kinds of burgers, tacos, and other miscellaneous items. Hubby and I kept it simple and ordered a small order of ocean perch dinner and a small order of salmon dinner. The dinner doesn't include a fountain pop. In fact, I don't think they serve fountain drinks. On the previous paragraph I mentioned the huge menu options, well, their beverage menu is as simple as it can be; the options are water (charge $1 for it), mystic, and can sodas. I would say their fish alone was a five (5)-star quality. The size of my perches were large and were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Their hot sauce was also pretty on point. The dinner also came with fries and cold slaw; however, they were both average and there were not much to them in comparison to the yummy fish. We dined in because the Bachelor was on. I was used to be obsessed to that show for some reason. Well, I guess I'm not addicted to the Bachelor or the Bachelorette anymore. I like this place; it's somewhat disappointing for not offering a fountain drink as an option while other similar joints might have one of the self-service fountain soda machines for customers. The fried chicken wings and fries with their buffalo sauce on the side are great. The wings are huge and crispy and I'm convinced they usually throw a few more than you order to fill it out. The platter is a very reasonable price. Great for sharing and there will always be leftovers. I once ordered a cherry lemonade though, and it was underwhelming. Chevalier was the name. He brought me a bag that said "Jaime" . I said no that's not the one. Then he brought me a bag that had the name "Susan". I spelled the name out loud about 10 times. I asked if I could please write down the name and they refused to allow me to show them how it was spelled. They very obviously did not know English or even know how to treat customers . This is usually my go to spot for fish and/or chicken wings. Captain Hook's has a number of city locations but this one is where the food is usually consistently good. I don't know if COVID-19 has affected the cooking and managerial staff, but today's order was ridiculous. First my "large order" resulted in the tiniest pieces of fish ever. Seconds, they were overcooked. Fish should not crunch like potato chips. After putting forth my best effort to "grin and bear it" with the first piece, I decided to call back. Surely, they would understand how this order was so wrong. But NO, they're response was that four pieces IS the large order and it didn't matter whether or not the pieces were small and overcooked. What?! The woman on the phone literally asked me, "what do you want me to do about it?" Huh? "I'm usually happy with my order," I replied, "so I don't know what you normally do in this situation. Can I get more food or a refund?" They don't refund. They don't give more food. "It sounds like you're saying that there is nothing you will do to make this right, is that correct?" To this question the no refund, no extra food was repeated. But she did offer 10% off a future order. To some, this may seem like a good idea offer, but for a $13+ order that was wrong, it is NOT acceptable to me. I said thank you and hung up the phone. I did not repeat my name for the future 10% because I have no intention of overspending in their establishment again. Went there May 28, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Ordered a Turkey Burger and a diet Coke at 1:33. The place was NOT very busy from a customer standpoint. I got my Burger at 1:55. 22 minutes to get my meal. I went up to the counter at 1:47 to at least get my drink to nurse while I waited. They wouldn't give it to me (I had paid Cash for the meal). Said my burger would be up shortly. At this point...THAT WAS MY COKE...I HAD PAID FOR IT. There was ZERO sense of urgency. There was no line. Just a bunch of lazy, dirty people behind the counter. The restaurant was filthy too. Homeless people floated in and out. Just disgusting. DO NOT EAT HERE Don't waste your time or money....as my burger was not very good after all. Hmmm the food is okay but it could be cooked a bit longer, the chicken be rubbery sometime, the fries also don't be fresh all the times, they be soggy and cold some times depending on the day. I used to go here all of the time. Loved the Honey BBQ wings. Still do. But one late night I ordered a cheeseburger. The taste overall was just all right. But the reason I'm giving two stars is because when I received the burger I opened the buns and saw that only the edge of a tomato and one small leaf of lettuce was on it. Not a savvy yelper but this needed to be done! Talk about cheap! And I'm not talking about price! My co-workers and I order here several times and I decided to change it up and order a chicken sandwich, $7 dollar combo. Boy, was I disappointed, I would describe it as "1cm of actual chicken meat", I can get a bigger portion with a McChicken and we all know how much that costs. Also, try not to be so picky with what you don't want on your sandwich because they will forget anyways and put everything on it. Many times we have our food delivered, ordering several people over the phone, good luck with that. They seem to hate several orders over the phone. Also, make sure everyone gives cash because they will charge for delivery per card. I check my handy dandy yelp app for "Fish and Chips" in the West Loop, and lo and behold, 4-star rated Captain Hook's Fish & Chicken came up! It's located in the Jewel Shopping Center on Roosevelt and Ashland, so parking is a breeze. They have a plentiful amount of $5 meals, ranging from fried catfish, to chicken nuggets, to shrimp and all are served with fries. I got two HUMONGOUS pieces of catfish fillets with fries for only $5! Portions are quite generous and I could barely finish one fillet! The breading is light, not too heavy at all and it's served with hot sauce (mild if requested). I thoroughly enjoyed my cheap yet delicious meal. If I had one small tiny complaint, it might be that the breading and fries are a tad too salty for my taste, but that didn't stop me from devouring my meal. It's sometimes on my way home. I discovered it by accident as I was desperate for some junk food. And really wanted fish for some reason. I was pleasantly suprised how delicious the fish tasted. 4 large breaded Tilapia filets tasted fresh and yummy. With Dinner you get fries, bread and cole slaw. I have to agree, fries had magical properties. Soo good. and so bad for you. We also had their wings. The skin wasn't as crispy as I liked it but the sauce was nice and hot and of course, it came with fries. We didn't know and got more fries. There were no fries left. People are generally friendly. It is located across from the projects and is in a mini strip mall with Jewel. And the floors can be so slippery they'll kill you. I love it! This is a little shop located in a strip mall, with ample parking for the size of the place. It's small- mostly carry out, but they do have booths set up and I do usually see people dining in there. You go to the counter & order, and then its usually 5-15 minutes for your order (at least on weekends when I've gone.) They have fried seafood, yummy sandwiches, ribs, catfish, hush puppies, rings, and it's all so goooood!!! I have been trying to find good fried fish for a while now, and this place finally fit the bill. They serve fresh fried catfish and tilapia fillets with lots of meat on them. There's no fishy aftertaste at all. Ordering the small fish dinner is still very filling. They also give you fries and a huge piece of bread to eat with the fish.
