Oh boy. I had some hesitation about trying this place given the generally unflattering reviews, but I thought we'd give it a shot. My mistake. The food was just not good.... The salmon lox came on a pile of lettuce, without any cream cheese or other spread. I ordered a side of English muffin, and it was completely drowned in butter, a soggy mess. The poached eggs didn't taste right either. I left most of my meal on the plate, and left with a gross feeling in my stomach. Aside from the bad food, this place is totally unfocused. Part brunch spot, part hot pot, part boba tea (the boba part may be run by another business).... all over the map. They need to revamp their business model, and focus on executing one thing well, not many things 'meh'. This space has a lot of potential, and I do hope management figures things out, but I won't be eating here again. Two stars only for the staff, who were nice.

Give this spot a try for breakfast, we've never been disappointed. On the weekends they have live music (usually acoustic guitar) and the wait is never long. The staff is friendly and their coffee hits the spot. You can't be their two-egg breakfast with potatoes and toast for $10. Skip the wait across the street and give this hidden gem a try. They are really trying and deserve a chance.

Came to Cape 7 Cafe as we noticed this restaurant is newish (used to be a seafood restaurant). Service and Staff: - There are two entrances - regardless of entrance you come in, you can find a staff member to get you seated - Our waiter was very nice Food: - California Benedict: two filling benedicts with choice of hashbrowns or country potatoes. Fresh taste from the tomatoes and avocado - Build your own omelette: There are six options for omelets, as well as an option to build your own. I did this with linguica, cheese, and spinach. Filling and tasty - the egg was a little overcooked though. Came with choice of hashbrowns or country potatoes and our waiter also gave us an order of toast. Miscellaneous: - Parking available via the parking lot connected to the restaurant and street parking - When we entered, there was a live band playing (little louder than I would have liked, making it hard to hear each other) playing great tunes - We were a little confused by the restaurant. During the day, they are advertising breakfast and brunch food. They kept all the internal decor of the previous seafood restaurant (same owners? Cheaper to buy fully furnished?). And the table next to us received a big bowl of noodles (I don't think it was ramen) and a plate of potstickers and cabbage. When we walked out, we noticed a separate kitchen inside with Asian food. Not sure if this is 2-3 restaurants in one? We didn't receive a menu with Asian options. And maybe the seafood is at night?

Date: 3/1/2024 Time: 2:05 PM 55° Cloudy I decided to take a walk around this area. The walking started at 5th & Haight to Haight & Webster. Before heading to the post office, I stopped in at Cape 7 Cafe for a late lunch. The decor is the same as the previous restaurant (Shell Shock) that was here. There are two menus; breakfast/lunch and dinner. After perusing the menu, it was a difficult decision as to what I felt like having. So many choices with so little time. Crabcake benedict, salmon benedict, chilaquiles, omelette, breakfast burrito, breakfast quesadilla, French toast, sandwich, burger and fries??? Ahhh...decision, decision, decision. Then, I did not bother to ask if they serve Arnold Palmer (1/2 lemonade, 1/2 iced tea). I will have to ask on my next visit. What is brunch without mimosas? Yes, they have different flavor mimosas. Eats: Crabcakes benedict with hash browns. Beverage: hot black tea. Even though my meal was just a tad bland, I am not going to complain. It is my belief that certain restaurants do not season the food, but to leave it at the discretion of the customers to do so. The salt, pepper, bottles of ketchup and mustard are available at each table. I would have enjoyed the hot tea if it were stronger. I couldn't finish my meal. Thus, I needed a people bag for 1/2 of my meal. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Service was prompt. Cape 7 Cafe is a nice addition to the neighborhood and I will do a return visit in the future. I am eager to try their breakfast quesadilla or chilaquiles. Rating: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars.

My friend and I came here for brunch on Christmas Eve, but unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning that left me bedridden through Christmas and for a few days after. My friend ordered the BG omelette, which is supposed to include avocado, mushrooms, green onions, tomatoes, garlic jack and cheddar cheese, and sour cream. She requested it without tomatoes, but it arrived missing avocado, sour cream, and garlic jack cheese--and still had tomatoes. To make matters worse, there was a cheese wrapper cooked into the omelette. We tried to get the waitress's attention, but it took quite a while, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. When we finally flagged her down, she brought a side of avocado, but by then, our food was cold. The whole experience was disappointing, to say the least, and getting food poisoning on Christmas kind of bummed me out.

I have been here several times, once for breakfast and another time for dinner. Breakfast was great and had just the right amount of food (photo). For dinner, I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The presentation was lovely, with a slice of orange and pretty orchid. Our service was great, the waitress was very nice and attentive.

Hotpot
Rose L.

The hotpot itself that they use: 5 stars Hotpot food: 3.5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars To be fair, they don't specialize in hotpot. It's definitely something I can make at home, but when you don't want to cook, it's worth $30 to eat out and have a simple meal. For the record, I did not take any photos of the actual food involved. I just love the hotpot vessel itself. It came with your choice of meat, veggies, and a bunch of sides that you can either throw into your pot or eat on their own. The actual hotpot they used is so traditional and beautiful. To be honest, I wanted to buy it directly from them and use it at home. I asked the waiter as a joke if I could purchase it from them. Ha! The hotpot dinner can serve two people, but I went solo, so I had leftovers to bring home. It's not bad for two meals for $30 if you look at it that way. The service was great, in my opinion. They were attentive, well-mannered, and gave me everything I needed. At the end, when I was done with my meal and ready to pack my leftovers, the server didn't know how to turn off the hotpot and called the kitchen lady over to help. I thought she was so cute because she said, "Now you both can learn." We both did struggle, though. lol I do have one piece of feedback for the restaurant staff: the lid of the hotpot can get really hot. I'm not sure it's the best idea to let customers open it themselves, especially if they are not accustomed to hotpot in this way. The mainstream hotpot places usually don't have lids, so this can be a liability for the restaurant if they're not careful. I mean, you would think it's quite evident that if you order something hot, especially when there's fire burning, it would be hot. But let's just say common sense isn't so common for some, per se. All in all, I paid a total of $40 because I had a great experience and would love to visit again to try other items on their menu.

California Benedict

I came over on Saturday around noon/1 pm with my girl- friends after working out and we had no idea the place just opened! The first impression was Great since they offer parking, for that they get 5 stars right off the bat. My friends got there first and they got the table, when I walked in I was a bit confused thinking that I walked into the wrong place because they have decor and signs that might belong to a different kind of restaurant. (Maybe previous ownership) I think the place was a half capacity while we were there , they brought menus, waters and served the table right after. But they took a while to bring the food. I ordered the California Benedict and they were great, I enjoyed my meal, the sauce was just right, I was very happy with my choice but my friend wasn't very pleased with hers, they got it wrong from the beginning, and they forgot to bring her bread, we had to call our waitress to remind them and the bread came just late, she was almost done eating. Their menu is very extensive! We wanted to order a sweet pancake or toast to share but since our order took a while to make it to the table we just called it a day. Even though the timing in the kitchen wasn't "right " the timing with our waters and coffee was on point, they kept refilling our beverages, and that's greatly appreciated!. We had to ask for the bill, and waited by the table to have it picked up with the card for a while until I realized we had to go to the counter and pay, when I was reading the other reviews I noticed some people had different experiences with the payment, I think they are trying to figure that out. When I walked to the counter they were all nice, the server even had a small conversation, but all the waiters were by the counter just supervising and not exactly serving. I think it's a bit early to have a real opinion about the place, I enjoyed my meal but didn't enjoyed all the time I spent there, hopefully they get a bit more organized once they get the hang of things, they are brand new! And I wish them nothing but success . I will come back and update my review, I think the business has great potential based on: the food quality/ price range/ taste/ location/ cleanliness and amenities.

I knew I wanted good Chinese food in a clean, safe area--not in Oakland, but with food just as good. We found Hong Kong City Cafe in Alameda, and the reviews looked promising. We walked in around 8:20 p.m., and the gentleman at the front let us know they closed at 9 p.m. I appreciated him making sure we knew before we sat down. We ordered some of our usual dishes so we could compare them to our favorite Chinese spot. The pork fried rice was good, but it had a little too much shredded lettuce for our liking. Thankfully, the pork was super tender and flavorful, so I would still give it an 8/10. I ordered the Wor Wonton Soup, and it probably had the best broth I've ever had. I can't explain the flavor--it was just DELICIOUS. It came loaded with pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, and shrimp-filled wontons. My husband ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and we both agreed it was the best we've ever had. I think the char on the vegetables really makes a difference. We also tried the Walnut Shrimp. It tasted more natural than other walnut shrimp we've had. We wished the shrimp had a little more crunch, but it was still really good. Overall, this was a 4/5-star experience. We wish we could have stayed longer, but they were closing, so we didn't want to hold them up. There was also a table of about 10 people drinking that made the restaurant really loud. Obviously, that's not the restaurant's fault, but it did affect our experience.

The broth was salty (but I love that) so I enjoyed. For the lunch plate, the friend rice was literally just rice fried with a scrambled egg. If you're into the healthier/plane fried rice, this is for you. If you want the salty, combination fried rice, don't do this add on. The chicken itself was VERY breaded and VERY sauce heavy, so if you're into that, this is for you. Personally, I like to taste the protein so I will probably opt for a different dish.

They're popular so they get very busy during peak times and the wait list can get long. Service is fast and consistent. Last time, we got the $88 dinner and added three dishes. This time, I ordered the $168 dinner. I found out after I placed the order that instead of picking from the left side for the less expensive menu and the right side for the more expensive menu, we can select from either side for either menu! We also added one dish because my wife insisted that we needed more veg! Our server presented us with a bowl of House Soup. It was a great way to get our stomachs ready for the deluge of dinner about to happen! Whole Roast Duck - 3 - We had dinner the previous night at another Chinese restaurant and had a Peking Duck. It was odd that the Peking Duck was more moist than our Roast Duck. Yes, the fatty parts were fatty but the non-fatty parts were dry. Braised Beef Stew - 4 - Lots of beef. Excellent sauce. Missing Tendons and Daikon. Honey Walnut Shrimp - 3 - Even under the flavor of the sauce, I could tell that some of the shrimp weren't as fresh as they should be. No one else said anything so I let it go. Peking Rib - 5 - If I drank beer, this would be an excellent dish to nosh on while doing so. Crispy Fried Flounder - 4 - The flounder was okay, but the fins and tail didn't get super crispy so we could enjoy them as chips. The other thing that may have made it better for us might be a sweet and sour sauce. Chicken with Mixed Mushrooms - 4 - Yep, I'm a mushroom freak. I could care less about the chicken, but mushrooms? I'm there. Stir-fried Clams in Black Bean Sauce - 4 - These were okay. My wife said she got a bunch of empty shells. That happens sometimes. No idea what other people got. Chicken Chow Mein - 5 - got the skinny noodles fried soy sauce chow mein style. Yummy! Snap Pea Beef - 4 - Beef was tender. Could have used more snap peas. Overall, a decent dish. I also included pictures of the two "set" menus. Note that $88 comes with a 1/2 Royal Chicken while $168 comes with a whole Roast Duck. Service was okay. Food came in spurts. Soup. Wait. Two dishes. Best Kung Pao chicken on the Peninsula…read more Tucked away in a small business strip on El Camino in Belmont, Blue Sky Café is easy to miss. I didn't know it existed until a TikTok review said it has everything Panda Express has, only better. They were right: the menu goes well beyond Panda Express, and the quality is far better. I called in a takeout order around 1:00 PM on a Saturday. They quoted 30 minutes, and it was ready in 25. When I went in to pay, the line had grown from three groups to out the door, all 12 or so tables were full, and the register was stacked with to-go orders. Since I was parked in a handicap space, the staff kindly offered to bring my order out to my car when it was ready, which was extremely helpful. The restaurant was very clean and well organized, and the staff were friendly even with a packed house. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken à la carte, no rice, for just over $19 with tax. The chicken was tender, the peanuts plentiful, and every vegetable was cooked perfectly: zucchini, celery, green pepper, and onions that were translucent and sweet. I enjoyed every bite. The little container of chili oil added heat without being too hot, with great flavor. The soy sauce packet was a nice touch, though the dish didn't need it. How it compares: I priced Kung Pao chicken at three places, all before tax. A large Kung Pao chicken takeout box at Panda Express, no rice, is $13.75, but it holds noticeably less than Blue Sky's container. Cheung Hing in Millbrae is $14.95 with rice, in the same size container as Blue Sky. Blue Sky is $17.50 with no rice, so the whole container is chicken, peanuts, and vegetables. The prices are close, but Blue Sky wins on volume and taste, hands down. The TikTok hype is justified. Tips: Order by phone. The online ordering quoted about 70 minutes, while my phone order was ready in 25. Lunch ends at 2 PM, with a break until 4 PM for dinner. Check Google for busy times before you go. I wasn't planning to eat out this month, but the TikTok video pushed me to try it. No regrets. I'll be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommended.

I have seen them combine the smaller tables to make one larger table or crowd a party of 6 to a 4 top. Menus are accessible by a QR code, which you can order directly from. The food looks amazing, with generous portions all around. On our visit, we got: * Fujian Style Egg Tofu with Large Pea Shoots $26.95 - This dish is a bit misleading as there is also mushrooms and what appears to be crab on top of the greens. But it's really the fried egg tofu that's the star of this dish. * Salt and Pepper Pork Chops $16.95 - This is definitely a great bang for the buck! The pork chops are plentiful and have a great flavor. * Pumpkin with Salted Egg $16.95 - It wasn't as salty egg tasting as I had hoped. * Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Egg Clay Pot, Small $17.95 - Clay pots are a novelty for us since we don't get it often. Give yourself extra time as this take longer to prepare. As them to cook it a little longer so you get a really good crispy rice exterior. * Steamed Spare Rib Black Bean Sauce Clay Pot Small $17.95 They are busy with usually 2-3 waiters running around constantly. And it's a tight space, so you'll need to wait outside or in your car since they text you when your table is ready anyway. The restrooms are outside, so you'll need the key. Overall, Blue Sky Cafe has some great eats. We'll consider going again, but either try for lunch or a much earlier dinner to avoid the crowds. They have a ton of takeout orders as well.
