I will rave about this carbonara forever - it was to die for. I am an avid carbonara lover, order it at almost every Italian restaurant I have been to and this is by far a top 3 entree for me. I went to Canto for dinner on a Friday night. I would recommend making a reservation since the place is packed. I was actually impressed by how much seating they managed to fit into the space. They really optimized every inch. I tried their famous frozen espresso martini and loved it. It's almost like a tiramisu martini because they top it with mascarpone. They have a good happy hour deal, but unfortunately we weren't able to make it in time for it. For dinner, we ordered an arancini, carbonara, and a risotto from their specials. They drop off complimentary warm bread with a red sauce for dipping. Next time I'll probably skip ordering an appetizer since the bread is so good. The pastas aren't the best in the city, but they were solid. Overall, I had a fun time. Loved the frozen espresso martini. Would go again. read more

I'll start by saying I genuinely love Canto and I've been here many times, so it really pains me to leave a negative review. This past Saturday, I made a 4:45 PM reservation because my friend and I wanted to grab food and make it in time for happy hour (which is advertised on their Instagram as ending at 5 PM). We arrived at 4:40 PM and were told the table wasn't ready yet, which was totally fine since we were a bit early. However, after waiting about 15 minutes, at 4:55 PM I checked in again and the host told me they still didn't have a table for us. When I mentioned we had booked specifically to make happy hour, he insisted happy hour ended at 4:30 PM. I even pulled up their Instagram post showing happy hour is 3-5 PM, and he still continued to insist it ended at 4:30. At that point, he said he could seat us at the bar "if we really wanted to sit," even though we had a reservation for a table. We agreed because we were hungry and just wanted to eat. We finally sat at 5 PM, and the bartender confirmed happy hour actually does run until 5 PM and was kind enough to still let us order happy hour drinks. Overall, the experience left a bad taste. The wait and confusion were frustrating, but more than that, the host's attitude made us feel unwelcome. We were also the only people of color in the restaurant at the time, and the interaction felt especially uncomfortable in that context. I've always enjoyed this place, but this experience was disappointing enough that I don't plan on returning. read more

Such a cute classy spot and I'm so glad to have experienced it. First off, anyone going needs to get a frozen espresso martini. Those things are dangerous but so good. I was gagged at the edible straw as well! I got two and could've gotten so many more. The restaurant itself is packed shoulder to shoulder with seating but that just made the meal feel a lot more intimate. I got the seafood pappardelle and it was so good. LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS We received terrible service from the moment that we got there. The host would not check us in for 15 minutes. He was not paying attention to us then told us our party of six only had a hour and 10 minutes to eat because we showed up "20 minutes late" where as we were only 5 minutes behind. My friend gonna long, sharp piece of plastic in her drink and our waiter took it from her and never said anything or apologized. I came here late one evening with my friend and we were seated at the back bar facing the wall. The restaurant interior is cute but it was hard for us to see it. Other groups were sat around the bar and kind of in the bar/kitchen area which was interesting. It seems like a lot of people come here for birthdays as they'll play in da club and bring out a sparkler for the celebration. It took about 15 mins for someone to come to us to actually get our orders placed but once we placed them, the bread and wine came out pretty quickly! My friend and I shared the meatballs (8/10 - on the smaller side but good) which was a good addition with the free bread and I ordered the rigatoni e gamberi which was really good and the pasta was Al dente but definitely light on the sauce! My friend ordered the tortellini di carne which I tried but I liked mine better. I want to come back to try the frozen espresso martinis but I wasn't trying to drink that at 9PM! The food however was very underwhelming in taste and quality. While it was presented well I was not impressed especially for the price. The bread had beautiful grill marks but was chewy as if it was microwaved or old. The carpaccio was gamey in my opinion. My pasta was tasty but I don't think it was good enough for $27, tasted like an average family dinner night. Point being you are paying for the ambience and location. decided I had to get my hands on the frozen espresso martini at Canto and we all know I'm not paying full price - I love that they have this martini on their happy hour menu for $12. it is honestly so delicious. the cream on top freezes into a sort of ice cream consistency. love the three chocolate chips and how you can tell it's still strong despite being delicious - I also tried the regular espresso martini which was solid. you can pick vodka or tequila. it's definitely stronger, but the other one is tastier - they have such good truffle french fries. they have that like crispy layer on the outside and have such a good amount of truffle flavor. they would be brought to the next level if they came with an aïoli or if they did like a parmesean truffle layer on top. - after a few rounds of drinks, people got hungry and got the lasagna. it is definitely well-made and good quality. prices on the normal menu are high - our server was really nice, but they were absolutely swamped. we were told to move tables halfway through the service so they can make room for other people... and then they did kick us out. I think that they overbooked without considering they actually don't have room for people. everyone seems so stressed and our waitress even told us that there "was a situation going on." read more
