The Shrimp was AMAZING, It is buttery and lemony and so so good! My boyfriend loved it. I just had bariatric surgery and I find that they have a lot of protein rich meals that are delicious, they also let me make requests to changes on my meals to better suit my diet now. I ordered the Mix Burrito (no rice in my burrito) with grilled chicken and a side of pico de gallo. The chicken had that odd texture that you get if you buy a bag of frozen grilled chicken strips from your neighborhood Walmart store. That rubbery kind of texture. Ever take a part a chicken Mcnugget and see the weird texture of the chicken? Yup, thats what this was. It had air pockets in it. Pregrilled, frozen, packaged chicken. I suspect the back beans were canned too. Nothing fresh. Well, maybe the tortilla chips were made there. My burrito was so salty. OMG. It must have contained 4000 mg of sodium. Cause thats about all I tasted. And I ordered a side of pico de gallo. Maybe a 1/3 of a cup. Again so much salt it was horrible. They must have added 2 tbls of salt to the 1/3 of a cup of pico de gallo. I had my sights set on a fresh chicken burrito. I don't care for Chipotle because they don't cook fresh there either. But Chipotle is "fast food" so that's their pass. I was very disappointed. The only thing that wasn't salted was their tortilla chips. Go figure. BTW, this was a Door Dash order. I wanted to love this place, really I did, but the food and the prices killed it for me. Well, not all the food. The chips and salsa were very good, and that's probably where I should have stopped. Instead, I ordered a carnitas burrito which was large and looked good on the plate, but it didn't pass the taste test and was pasty in the middle. For some reason parts of the burrito were dry, which was strange because I ordered it with guacamole and sour cream. Probably because they put most of the sour cream in one end. Coincidentally, that same end smelled and tasted like old fish for some reason. I thought I was smelling some other customer's fish dinner until I bit into that end. On top of that, they charged me $13.00 for beer, which although large, would have cost about $10.00 anywhere else. We went here because someone mentioned they had a vegan menu and they also advertised "Happy Hour Mon-Fri with $4 Draft Beer, $6 House Margaritas, and $3 Mexican Tacos -Chicken, Steak or Carnitas". There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived. We had never been here before. We mentioned this to the hostess and there was no response. She tried to seat us off to the right but when we sat down, we heard a high pitch buzzing emitting from the lights. We asked if we could move away and ended up seated in the bar. The happy hour menu said Mexican tacos and I asked for one without meat. The server said they couldn't be altered, the special was only for the ones described. I wondered are they pre-made?! Why on earth couldn't you put salsa, lettuce and beans in a taco shell at happy hour and offer that for the same price as a meat taco?! We ordered a Margarita and she brought chips and salsa. The chips were thick and bland. The salsa was slightly spicy and good. The vegan menu offered "Enchilada de Championes (vegan): two enchiladas filled with mushrooms, spinach, and carmelized (sic) onion, covered with our delicious vegan enchilada sauce" for $19.99. My partner got a Chile Relleno Burrito, "Our signature chile relleno with beans, rice, cheese, and sour cream and guacamole, wrapped in a large flour tortilla" for $16.99. Of course, I wondered why my vegan dish was more expensive than the one with cheese and all, but I have experienced that before in other places. The margarita arrived and we dove in. It didn't taste fresh; it tasted like they used a pre-made mix. We should cleanly taste triple sec, lime, tequila, and it should be refreshing, but it wasn't. When my dish arrived, it had guacamole on the plate. I am allergic to avocado, so I was surprised I missed this on the menu description of what I ordered. I asked the waiter about it and he said the menu listed it but I looked online later and it doesn't mention it. I don't know why he had to lie and also he didn't offer to change out my dish nor did he care. There were whole pieces of spinach in the enchilada. That makes for an awkward and not tasty bite. (see photo) The enchilada tortillas were not filled very much with the three ingredients. The sauce was very good. They served a side of Mexican rice and beans on the side. The rice was mushy and both items were very bland. When we left, we discussed how we felt about our experience here. I said I felt that the two people working there, a man and a woman, never addressed us warmly. My partner said he noted that as well. I saw that they didn't offer warmth or friendliness to the other three patrons that came in after us. I guess it's just the way they are. Overall, I wouldn't go back. The restaurant is a vibrant decoration of ancestral Mexico, so colorful and love the details of the decor from the napkin holders to the Don Julio barrel in the back room. We were lucky we came on Friday to celebrate my husbands bday. Mariachi started a bit before 7pm. Maria was our server and she did such a great job checking with the kitchen on our kids allergies (peanuts and tree nuts). They have a vast of Vegan options which is so hard to find in Mexico restaurants, my daughter is vegan so we will be coming back here for sure! I have been to Cantina Azteca a few times mostly out of pure convenience. It is located in the same parking lot as my daughter's gymnastics class and when we are craving Mexican food - we usually just go here. Food is not the best in town, but when you've got a craving, it does the trick. During our last visit though, I ordered the Pozole and it tasted different than the last time I was there and not in a good way. Their spicy salsa - which I think was just a marinade for their meat was the worst thing I ever tasted - so so bitter! My husband also found a hair in his rice. Sigh... Their Blackberry Margaritas are on point though! Staff is friendly, but they can be pretty slow at times as well. I think we'll be taking our cravings elsewhere next time. read more

Best tacos in all the area! I LOVE the shredded beef tacos. The plate comes with beans and rice. The rice is as close to being my grandmothers as I've ever had - such great memories. The restaurant is comfortable with lots of Aztec decor. There is a full bar and smoothie options on the menu. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. On a few occasions there has even been live music. Service is always top notch. The staff is friendly, keeps the place clean and clearly cares for customers. My drink was never empty and the chips and salsa kept flowing. The spicy salsa is hot, but yummy! My personal favorite is their standard salsa or salsa creama - which has great flavor and a tiny bit of heat. This restaurant is worth driving out of your way for. It was a Monday afternoon and there were a few customers sitting outside and a few inside. We were seated right away but waited a bit before our waitress came back to take our order. She apologized for the wait. Typical mexican fair but was a little shocked at the prices. This is no Taqueria! Ordered standard Steak Fajitas and they were $16.99 with rice and beans. Hubs got the mama's quesedilla or something like that and I think that was $15? Salsa was super bland. Pace Picante has more flavor. The meat was also very bland but at least the ingredients tasted fresh and they used real guac and not green goo albeit they only give you a teaspoon at best. The rice was so dry and hard that I couldn't eat it and I love rice. It was not worth the $50 we spent after drinks and tip. Then to make matters worse, the service was absolutely non-existent. Our waitress never came back to check on us. Hubs ended up holding his empty glass in the air for awhile and still nobody came. Finally flagged down the manager? and he got our drinks. I'm not sure if it's the same owners still from then but in any case I was very happy with the food today. I ordered the green enchilada dinners. One cheese and one chicken. Both were very good. The chicken was strips of white meat that was very tasty and the cheese was good of course. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in the whole Sacramento area. My wife and I live in south sac but we make the drive almost every Sunday morning for their delicious brunch. The drinks that they serve are out of this world and the food is absolutely the best! But... The main reason why we keep making the drive every weekend is the service. We always get greeted at the door and they make all of us feel welcome. If you ask for Jazmin you will truly have a wonderful experience, she is amazing and always helps out with the million questions we have when others at other places would get annoyed at the level of questions we have, Jazmin on the other hand keeps her smile and patiently talks to us making us feel unique to the rest of the restaurant. She makes sure that we're always attended to even during peak times and is always smiling at our toddler. My toddler doesn't like anyone but she feels very secure and welcome and happy when she sees her. Asking for Jazmin at the door is a must! So I went it to have breakfast today. I know it's mother's day but I am a single dad and just wanted to have a good breakfast. I ordered beef fajitas and a coffee and a beer. I never got my beer. Never go a refill on my coffee and after asking for 20 minutes I finally got more salsa. I was sitting at the bar saw my food come in the windows it was so over cooked I could not chew the meat.
