Since we're celebrating Latinx Heritage Month, I thought it would be wonderful to visit Mesa Mercado! I was told I had to check out Milagro Centre in Carmichael after my hair appointment, and I'm so glad I did! It's such a fun indoor-outdoor gathering spot, with several independently owned restaurants brought together in a lively, open market-style setting. I can only imagine how immaculate that giant outdoor fireplace looks when it's lit up at night! After seeing Italian food, sushi, gelato, pie, and River City Brewing among our options, my friend and I decided on Mesa Mercado. We were in the mood for some good Mexican food, and the ratings here looked great! Owned by founder Ernesto Delgado, Mesa Mercado was designed to celebrate and preserve the traditions of Latin American culture. When we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere we liked. Mesa Mercado was decorated to the MAX, and it was beautiful! There were hanging plants, piñatas, and vibrant papel picado banners everywhere. Even the bar area was decorated with dehydrated lime wheels piled high inside a tall glass jar. It was colorful and fun while still having an elegant look to it. The restaurant was very quiet, but we arrived between the lunch and dinner rushes. We were greeted by Remmi and given a taster of small mango pieces sprinkled with tajin... mmmm, nice touch, because that made us feel super special from the start. Right away, we ordered the salsa sampler, featuring a taste of salsas from around the world, along with an order of warm black beans. We received one basket of chips to share between the two appetizers, but it was honestly the perfect amount because we probably wouldn't have finished two baskets anyway. All three salsas were tasty! One was a traditional red salsa, the next was salsa verde, and the last was made with peppers and had a slightly sweet flavor. The black beans needed salt, but I got to add to my like l liking and that was great. They were otherwise tasty. For lunch, my friend ordered the "Pick Two Items" with a crispy chicken taco and a chicken enchilada with green sauce, which our server, Remmi, recommended. Her plate also came with rice and beans topped with cotija cheese. I ordered the Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. We were HUNGRY, so we were excited when our food arrived--and everything looked so yummy! My friend enjoyed her plate, although her enchilada was accidentally served with red sauce instead of the recommended green sauce. The chicken in her taco had great flavor.... juicy and tender. But I have to say, nothing could compete with my Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. That burrito was freaking OUTSTANDING! The carnitas were soooo tender and savory with the verde sauce, the green tortilla was unbelievably soft... every flavor danced together in my mouth! I loved every bite! After finishing half, I was full AF, lol, but I was genuinely excited to take the rest home because now I get to enjoy it twice! At some point, I ordered a Cadillac margarita. Remmi made it for me, and it came with a Tajín rim and one of those dehydrated lime wheels as a garnish. It was super delicious and beautiful! Remmi was an awesome server. He was patient, kind, and attentive throughout our entire visit. He took great care of us and helped make our first experience at Mesa Mercado even better. With food this flavorful, a beautiful atmosphere, and great service, I can absolutely see myself coming back sooner rather than later! read more

We had a large party celebrating my daughter's birthday and knew that this restaurant could accommodate us. I hadn't been here in almost 2 years and had forgotten how beautiful it is inside. The colors and decor are all quite festive. Also, I was surprised at the prices as they seemed very reasonable compared to other restaurants for the same food and beverage items I had the tamarindo margarita and loved how tangy it was. All of us enjoyed our food- my sister and I loved the poblano soup and several of us found the cauliflower tacos delicious. Our server was fabulous and we appreciated the birthday desserts served. The decor and Latin hits playing in Mesa Mercado make this a great spot for chill vibes. I enjoy their rice here that is uniquely flavored with powerful seasoning, with peas and carrots mixed in. My asada tacos were perfect with the cotija cheese to top these off. My friend enjoyed her Mother Earth tacos too! Everything we ate was very fresh and flavorful! Our excellent server took time to answer our menu questions and checked on us frequently. The only reason I am giving 4 out of 5 stars is because when we were first seated, it took longer than I'm used to in restaurants, for a staff member to ask if we were ready and take our orders. The food came out in a timely manner though! I look forward to returning, so I can try their other menu items, such as their nachos and other appetizers that made me salivate just reading the descriptions! read more

We had lunch here with the family and had a good time. We walked in and it was beautifully decorated. There was vibrant decor everywhere on the ceilings and walls. We were seated quickly and got our drinks. We ordered the adobo, braised ribs, and kids meals. The food came out pretty fast and looked delicious. We loved the flavor of everything. Both the meat dishes were tender and sauces rich. I don't know if it was the Filipino in me, but I much preferred the braised ribs with the rice than with the tortillas. Service was fantastic. It was still early and there was only one server but he was great. He was attentive and so nice, especially to our little ones. We tried this restaurant out for the first time! We enjoyed the colorful decor on the ceiling. However, the seats need to be steamed clean because it was very dirty! We actually switched to another table because the one we were at did not appear to be clean. The steak, chicken enchilada mole with rice and beans were fine. My fiancé really enjoyed it bc the meat was more on the rare side. We shared the entree and also ordered the chips and salsa which was $4, so for those who like complimentary chips and salsa, it is not free here. Our server looked pretty busy and we felt sorry for him bc he seemed to be exhausted. The place didn't look too busy and there were a lot of empty tables, probably 3 other tables were occupied. We've joined the sacveganchefchallenge, and our first stop was Mesa Mercado, just WOW! What a great start! Our server was attentive and patient. We were pretty early before the dinner rush, so we could pick his brain about the dishes we ordered. They didn't have official names for their two dishes, but both were incredible. The first was crispy tostadas topped with nopales and a rich tomatillo sauce. The second was enchiladas filled with nopales and mushrooms, also drenched in that same amazing sauce. Both dishes were outstanding, but that tomatillo sauce stole the show! We wanted to lick our plates clean... but somehow resisted. They also have a vegan section on their regular menu, so we couldn't resist trying one of those dishes too and ordered the molè with plantains. The molè was rich, sweet, and deeply chocolaty, so we asked for another small dish of THAT tomatillo sauce. Met family for dinner and wanted to check out Mesa Mercado. We were seated right away as we were there around 5pm. Happy hour time. Good choices for happy hour menu. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Our server brought menus and told us about the menu. We decided on an appetizer of fresh guacamole (which you mix yourself so you can add your spices). I've been coming to this spot for years, and it continues to be one of my favorite low key go to places. I even have a regular order here (which is rare for me) the Carnitas a la Mercado! Let me tell you, it's delish. I'm a sucker for pulled pork, and the way they pair it with salsa, beans, and rice? Chef's kiss. It hits every time. The staff here is consistently friendly, they're around when you need something but don't hover or interrupt, which I really appreciate. The seating is cozy, and yes, I'm even a fan of the chairs, they're cute and comfy. Whether I'm catching up with girlfriends over margaritas and tacos, or enjoying a laid back date night with my boo, this place never disappoints. It's got that easy, chill vibe that keeps me coming back. Plus, being located in the Milagro Centre, it's practically a tradition at this point to walk over and grab some gelato after. Win-win. No, it's not a fancy five-star restaurant with white tablecloths and polished service, but it doesn't need to be. This restaurant is part of a food court. On one end is a pub and on the other end is a Japanese restaurant and Italian restaurant. We have eaten at the Pub twice and really liked it. We thought we'd venture out and try the Mexican restaurant. They have a huge private lot so there is no need to worry about parking. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to the rain we opted to eat indoors. Outside in front of the Italian restaurant was a Saxaphone player. The music was beautiful but way too cold to really enjoy it outside. The ambiance is very festive. Their celling is very colorful with parasols hanging and tin stars hanging. The restaurant has a courtyard feel as there are no back walls and it opens up to a ice cream shop and the walkway to the bathroom. One downfall is the chips and salsa are not complimentary. That is a big shortcoming. They should always complimentary at Mexican restaurants. The chips were really good and so was the trio of salsas. There wasn't enough salsa to match with the chips. They salsa containers need to be bigger. I got and enjoyed the: Nopales con Carne de Puerco en Salsa Roja18.5 Fall off the bone tender braised pork short ribs in a rich tomatillo, guajillo chile, serrano and nopal sauce. You'll experience each remarkable  avor in this dish! Served with creamy refried pinto beans and fluffy white rice to capture any extra sauce. I was surprised that they serve it with white rice. I would think they would serve it with a Mexican style rice. The white rice was good, but not what I would expect from a Mexican Restaurant. My husband got the fish Tacos. I had a few bites. It wasn't my thing. They tasted a bit too fishy to me. I'm thinking that the fish wasn't that fresh. read more

Itching for some good Mexican Food?? We were. And we had been here before. Last time everything was very good - food and service. So it started...we were greeted and seated promptly. and just a couple of minutes in, a man who we thought was our waiter, came up and took our drink order. That seemed to be the last semblance of good service for the day. Apparently, unbeknownst to us, our real waiter was also the bartender. So we were at the mercy of the drink orders coming in to the bar. The service was very slow at best. but the food was good. But our waiter never came around - Gustavo was busy at the bar. So we got our food and it was good - just like last time - only this time not very hot. So then we wanted another drink and no one was around. I was sitting with my back to the bar. I kept looking around and no one came. So I turned and saw him standing there talking to the first 'Waiter' and cleaning the bar. I couldn't get either of their attentions so I had to walk over and order my drink over the bar. Food was good. Service was NOT. Then after I paid the bill, I noticed that I was charged $4.66 for a "Delivery Fee" which is ACTUALLY a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee." So another episode of a FORCED Gratuity in the restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant with friends and we were seated promptly. We immediately noticed the beautiful decor; lots of color and texture that create a vibrant and cheerful atmosphere. The service was excellent, we were served waters and drinks immediately and offered assistance if we had any questions. Two of us selected the Chili en Nogada, which we thoroughly enjoyed. This dish blends savory with sweet in a very delightful way, literally packed with flavor. Another friend had the Tacos Dorados and she thought they were delicious. The menu items are unusual for a Mexican restaurant, very creative. They do not bring complementary chips and salsa, rather they bring a dish of mango with a delicious spice added. There was some nice music in the background played at a low volume so that it was easy to have a conversation. There is a TV at the bar, but we were far enough away that it did not interfere. The moment I walked in, I could feel the vibe--stylish, warm, and just the right amount of lively without being overwhelming. I grew up in the S.F Mission District and I know that Mexican Food does NOT have to be spicy to be tasty. We came her for dinner and I explained my aversion to spicy AND how cilantro tastes like soap to me. I got a wonderful plate of carnitas with yummy beans and rice with pico (no cilantro) on the side. You mix your own guacamole so, you get to determine salt and onions and (get this!) cilantro. My BF ordered the short ribs and really enjoyed them. On Tuesday, May 5th, I went to the restaurant Mesa Mercado with a friend. We arrived before 8 pm, went in, and the waiter approached us to say they were no longer serving customers. We were about to leave when the same waiter changed his mind and told us he would serve us. From the moment he approached us, I noticed something strange. He was slurring his words, like someone who is drunk. I had visited that place before, and the waiter in question, named Julio, had already served me a couple of times. To my surprise, his attitude was overly familiar, making inappropriate jokes. He brought us a guacamole dip with tortillas and told us it was "on the house," then took our order. The two dishes we ordered arrived; however, the drinks never did. At the end, we asked for the check, and while I was paying, my friend realized we were being charged far too much. At that moment, we asked to review the bill. This waiter approached us and explained that other items had been added to the check and that he was going to fix it. When I expressed my surprise that the charge had already been made to my account without my having signed anything, he lost his temper. He started raising his voice at me and became defensive, as if I had disrespected him, which absolutely never happened. I was simply shocked. He had a furious look in his eyes, and his eyes were red. There were two people at the table, but he specifically targeted me. Finally, he was taking so long to remove the incorrect charges that I told him I just wanted him to finish the bill so I could leave. That was when he started yelling uncontrollably. The other waiter tried twice to calm him down without success. He literally threw me out of the restaurant with the threat that I should never come back "ever again." He told me he had been working there for 12 years and that no matter what I did, nothing was going to happen to him. That I could complain to whoever I wanted. Apparently, because of whatever he had consumed, he was incapable of handling the ordering system, and when he felt pressured to correct the mistake, his reaction was to verbally attack two older women. I am leaving this post because I do not think it is fair for the waiter, named Julio, who shows up to work with visible signs of intoxication or substance use and mistreats two customers who never refused to pay, but simply asked to review the receipt, to go without consequences. By the way, they were charging us for two drinks that never arrived at the table and for the guacamole that was supposedly complimentary. In short, they were basically doubling the bill. read more

Saturday, 7/27/2024 - We tried Mesa Mercado restaurant for the 1st time. Address is 6241 Fair Oaks Blvd, Ste B, (Milagro Ctr) Carmichael, CA 95608. There is plenty of parking here. Upon arrival... Pros 1) restaurant looked clean and tidy. 2) I saw there was a bar, buy didn't see anyone drinking there. 3) we didn't have to wait long. You do have to wait to be seated. 4) our server was very nice and attentive. Professional. He checked on us several times. The made sure we had water in our water cups. 5) our table, utensils cups, plates were all clean. 6) chips and salsa was good. Cost $4.00. 7) they provided a little complimentary mango. 8) all of our food dishes were good. I liked them all. 9) our little one didn't like her chips much. She didn't like the sour cream on it. I liked it though! It came with a churro and whip cream as dessert. Churro was freshly made and delicious. Kids plate and churro was $10.00 10) water tasted good. No funky taste. 11) Cons 1) they charge a $2.00 kitchen appreciation fee on our tab. We didn't see it till we left. So couldn't ask them what that was. Conclusion I liked this restaurant. It was cute. Staffs were very nice and attentive. Foods were good. I'd go here again. read more

I've been to Milagro several times before but this was my first time trying Mesa Mercado! The staff was very friendly when my friends and I walked in, they greeted and seated us immediately. I went with their Mexican wet nachos as my entree. It was delicious, the chips were house made and fried to perfection, it had toppings of beans, guacamole, salsa and cheese. The food was fresh and the staff was very friendly, I wish they did brunch so I could bring my friends here on a weekend morning. read more

My wife and I took our family there for our son in law's birthday. The food is pretty basic. Not as good as most of the Mexican restaurants that we frequent. The prices are at least 25% more than others. The ambience is good but not great. The service was mediocre! We had to keep reminding the waiter about our orders. They charged $4.50 for chips and salsa (free at all other restaurants). The salsa came in a tiny dish so we had to keep asking for more. $4.00 for a Diet Coke and no refill. $5.00 for a bottle of Mexican coke. They automatically charged a 20% tips (because there were 9 of us) which amounted to $49. That would had been fine if the service was good. As though that wasn't enough, they charged a 3.5% for "Kitchen Appreciation" fee. WTH? They also calculate the tips after tax which gave them a couple more bucks! All in all, this was an underwhelming experience. I would never go back there again and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

We were treated to a wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Friday evening around 5:45 pm. The bride had called twice for a reservation for 17 people. The first time to make the reservation and the second time to confirm the reservation. When we arrived they had no clue about the reservation and we had to wait while they set up our tables etc. It worked out ok, but are they clueless? Especially with two phone calls in advance? The bar and good service was good for having to serve 17 people both food and drink. The menu had some interesting dishes on it, but when I asked for a couple of substitutions, it was a flat out "NO CAN DO." An example of that is "can you grill my fish instead of fry the fish for the fish tacos?" NO. Oh well. I decided on the vegan menu with veggie tacos, refried beans and rice. oh, by the way, the only beans they have are refried, no plain pinto beans or black beans. OK, no problem.... I loved my Mango Margarita. The tacos were ok, but they forgot the avocado in my tacos and I couldn't find anyone to ask to bring it. Dessert, churros and flan to share. Flan was the biggest I have seen anywhere, ice cream with the churros was good. Churros were not very crisp. The restaurant is colorful and decorated nicely. Very cheery. They have a happy hour as well, although we did not arrive in time for happy hour to try it. read more

It wasn't what I hoped for! We ordered online to pick it up. It was Friday night after we got there with the order is ready message, there were a family waiting before us to be seated and we all kept waiting and waiting. Funny part is, there were a lot of staff walking around and passing by. I told my boyfriend to walk around at the mall because it is a very nice ambiance with all the small businesses. In the meantime, I approached to the bar area to figure out where the online order food would be. Staff person there said they will bring it to us when it is ready, I thought it was ready but anyways, online system makes mistakes. So we kept waiting with the same family in front of us. Few minutes later I saw a senior man passing by with an online order bag and I followed his tracks back to where he came from the other side of the bar just to find my order sitting there! So I checked the name, it was my order, I told the staff person at the bar, this is what I was asking, where would I find my bag and she said it shouldn't be sitting there! Anyways! We took the bag and ice cream from Ghiotto Gelato and came back home expecting a nice dine at home night... but no. Our order was missing a horchata and in the description of these very delicious tacos says and quote "Three large tortillas..." we only but two! Very disappointed! What a unique Mexican restaurant! Absolutely adorable and the food is quite tasty. It's Hispanic heritage month, so I wonder if it's decorated just for that or if it always looks as cute as it did! If you're looking for an aesthetic restaurant to enjoy, this is the place to go. Our waiter was very helpful and brought us everything we asked for quickly. We started with the bean dip and queso. Both were great starters. The bean dip was pretty salty, so it would be good to order something like salsa or guacamole to go with it. Then I tried the fish taco. The flavors were good and I liked the cabbage on top, but the batter on the fish was quite soggy in the tortilla. The carne asada taco however was absolutely delicious. We have ordered food for pick up from here many times and always enjoyed it, but tonight we were feeling adventurous so we went in and ate! The servers were friendly, attentive and quick. The place was decorated for christmas and was beautiful. I love that they have a vegan menu. Lots of great options. We got a few different tacos and they were all good. The salsa that comes as a salsa trio were all delicious! Their flan is absolutely one of the best flans I have ever had. It is so thick and creamy and the sauce isn't over powering. YUM read more

On the hottest day of the year in sacramento, it was a nice to discover Milagros centre and enjoy a cool interior and ample room to explore a cafe, a pie place, and Mesa Mercado. There was also River City bar and grille but we did not try. It had great natural lighting and lively decor on a Sunday lunch atmosphere. We had the vegan burrito and tasted fresh but needed the spicy and sweet salsa from the new shrimp appetizer to complete what the taste bud needed. The shrimp appetizer was also great and low carbs for a light lunch. Perfectly flavorful and great texture. Looking forward to try other dishes here in the future and escape the heat! read more

A 3 stars review is an okay judgement? So this restaurant food is okay. Not great. 17 of us here for wedding rehearsal dinner. The crowd pretty much ordered everything on the menu. I got to taste a few other dishes in addition to mine. The thick crunchy topopos (tortilla chips) were enjoyable. Not too greasy. The trio of dipping salsas also were piquant. My mole Oaxaqueno chicken was just okay. Not outstanding. The chicken breast was moist, cooked perfectly. The brown mole' was smooth but was quite one note. Disclaimer: I'm a mole' snob. I lived in Mexico city for a year way back long ago. I've spent a few months in Oaxaca. I know how a good well aged and seasoned mole' can be transcendent. This Mesa Mercado tastes it was made in a factory and packaged in a jar. It does suspiciously taste like the Dona Maria brand that comes in a jar. Available at Safeway supermarket for $3.80. The white rice was gummy and flavorless. Leathery tortillas were pretty bad, too. Flan was okay. Flavor and texture bordered on rice pudding. Big portion. But the sauce was sweet and practically flavorless. Churros were just chewy rods, made hours ago, no longer crispy. Cajeta inside was again just packaged tasting. There's so many family owned Mexican places in the Sacramento metro area that make way tastier food than this. Servers were friendly and gracious. Here, No return for me. read more

We absolutely loved our Asada Tacos, Poblano Soup and Salad. I actually liked this place better than Nix tacos and other places. We will be back. Try the Poblano soup, absolutely delicious. This place is a hidden gem, the ambiance is very mellow, the decor is super cool. We walked in with a party of 10, our waiter was very attentive and efficiently fast for such a big party. The food was good but definitely my favorite was the poblano soup it is delicious, the flan is very rich and could be share. The fish tacos are very good. I was not a huge fan of the fry fish but after having the poblano soup I was just fine. The churros are amazing and it is big enough portion for two. read more

I'll start with the service we had a party of 8, and we're seated fairly quickly. Things fell off sharply after that. I had to ask after 15 minutes of being seated for some type of service. I asked the bartender because he was the only employee I could see. I asked him if they were shorthanded so we would know things would be slow. He said no and he would find our server. Our server finally arrived seeming very rushed. So rushed to the point that he walked away without taking everyone's order. We had to call him back to finish what he started. Our appetizers arrived in an acceptable amount of time however, if I want to make my own guacamole I'll stay home and eat. How anyone thinks that's cool well. The bean dip was flavorless and bland not sure why it was called a dip it was just a bowl of black beans with cotija cheese sprinkled on it. The ceviche was on point. We were given three tiny bowls of salsa for 8 people and had to ask for more. Our lunch finally arrived after approximately 30 minutes. I had the carne asada, enchilada, rice and beans. Not sure what this chef finds difficult about adding flavor to the food as the carne asada was not tender and all I could taste was char due to it being over cooked. The enchilada with red sauce was not very good as all I could taste was tomato almost like it was Campbells tomato soup thinned out and poured over it very fruity and the chicken inside had zero flavor and no cheese. The white rice had zero flavor might as well given me steamed rice and the refried beans were fine. Over all nothing amazing about our meal as everyone was unimpressed. To be honest I've had better meals at some of the smaller taquerias around town.
