The service was excellent, we were served waters and drinks immediately and offered assistance if we had any questions. Two of us selected the Chili en Nogada, which we thoroughly enjoyed. This dish blends savory with sweet in a very delightful way, literally packed with flavor. Another friend had the Tacos Dorados and she thought they were delicious. The menu items are unusual for a Mexican restaurant, very creative. They do not bring complementary chips and salsa, rather they bring a dish of mango with a delicious spice added. There was some nice music in the background played at a low volume so that it was easy to have a conversation. There is a TV at the bar, but we were far enough away that it did not interfere. We had a large party celebrating my daughter's birthday and knew that this restaurant could accommodate us. I hadn't been here in almost 2 years and had forgotten how beautiful it is inside. The colors and decor are all quite festive. Also, I was surprised at the prices as they seemed very reasonable compared to other restaurants for the same food and beverage items I had the tamarindo margarita and loved how tangy it was. All of us enjoyed our food- my sister and I loved the poblano soup and several of us found the cauliflower tacos delicious. Our server was fabulous and we appreciated the birthday desserts served. The decor and Latin hits playing in Mesa Mercado make this a great spot for chill vibes. I enjoy their rice here that is uniquely flavored with powerful seasoning, with peas and carrots mixed in. My asada tacos were perfect with the cotija cheese to top these off. My friend enjoyed her Mother Earth tacos too! Everything we ate was very fresh and flavorful! Our excellent server took time to answer our menu questions and checked on us frequently. The only reason I am giving 4 out of 5 stars is because when we were first seated, it took longer than I'm used to in restaurants, for a staff member to ask if we were ready and take our orders. We tried this restaurant out for the first time! We enjoyed the colorful decor on the ceiling. However, the seats need to be steamed clean because it was very dirty! We actually switched to another table because the one we were at did not appear to be clean. The steak, chicken enchilada mole with rice and beans were fine. My fiancé really enjoyed it bc the meat was more on the rare side. We shared the entree and also ordered the chips and salsa which was $4, so for those who like complimentary chips and salsa, it is not free here. We were pretty early before the dinner rush, so we could pick his brain about the dishes we ordered. They didn't have official names for their two dishes, but both were incredible. The first was crispy tostadas topped with nopales and a rich tomatillo sauce. The second was enchiladas filled with nopales and mushrooms, also drenched in that same amazing sauce. Both dishes were outstanding, but that tomatillo sauce stole the show! We wanted to lick our plates clean... but somehow resisted. They also have a vegan section on their regular menu, so we couldn't resist trying one of those dishes too and ordered the molè with plantains. The molè was rich, sweet, and deeply chocolaty, so we asked for another small dish of THAT tomatillo sauce. I've been coming to this spot for years, and it continues to be one of my favorite low key go to places. I even have a regular order here (which is rare for me) the Carnitas a la Mercado! The staff here is consistently friendly, they're around when you need something but don't hover or interrupt, which I really appreciate. This restaurant is part of a food court. On one end is a pub and on the other end is a Japanese restaurant and Italian restaurant. We have eaten at the Pub twice and really liked it. We thought we'd venture out and try the Mexican restaurant. They have a huge private lot so there is no need to worry about parking. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to the rain we opted to eat indoors. Outside in front of the Italian restaurant was a Saxaphone player. The music was beautiful but way too cold to really enjoy it outside. They salsa containers need to be bigger. So we were at the mercy of the drink orders coming in to the bar. The service was very slow at best. but the food was good. But our waiter never came around - Gustavo was busy at the bar. So we got our food and it was good - just like last time - only this time not very hot. So then we wanted another drink and no one was around. I was sitting with my back to the bar. I kept looking around and no one came. So I turned and saw him standing there talking to the first 'Waiter' and cleaning the bar. I couldn't get either of their attentions so I had to walk over and order my drink over the bar. Food was good. Service was NOT. Then after I paid the bill, I noticed that I was charged $4.66 for a "Delivery Fee" which is ACTUALLY a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee." So another episode of a FORCED Gratuity in the restaurant. On Tuesday, May 5th, I went to the restaurant Mesa Mercado with a friend. We arrived before 8 pm, went in, and the waiter approached us to say they were no longer serving customers. We were about to leave when the same waiter changed his mind and told us he would serve us. From the moment he approached us, I noticed something strange. He was slurring his words, like someone who is drunk. I had visited that place before, and the waiter in question, named Julio, had already served me a couple of times. To my surprise, his attitude was overly familiar, making inappropriate jokes. He brought us a guacamole dip with tortillas and told us it was "on the house," then took our order. The two dishes we ordered arrived; however, the drinks never did. At the end, we asked for the check, and while I was paying, my friend realized we were being charged far too much. At that moment, we asked to review the bill. This waiter approached us and explained that other items had been added to the check and that he was going to fix it. When I expressed my surprise that the charge had already been made to my account without my having signed anything, he lost his temper. He started raising his voice at me and became defensive, as if I had disrespected him, which absolutely never happened. I was simply shocked. He had a furious look in his eyes, and his eyes were red. There were two people at the table, but he specifically targeted me. Finally, he was taking so long to remove the incorrect charges that I told him I just wanted him to finish the bill so I could leave. That was when he started yelling uncontrollably. The other waiter tried twice to calm him down without success. He literally threw me out of the restaurant with the threat that I should never come back "ever again." He told me he had been working there for 12 years and that no matter what I did, nothing was going to happen to him. That I could complain to whoever I wanted. Apparently, because of whatever he had consumed, he was incapable of handling the ordering system, and when he felt pressured to correct the mistake, his reaction was to verbally attack two older women. I am leaving this post because I do not think it is fair for the waiter, named Julio, who shows up to work with visible signs of intoxication or substance use and mistreats two customers who never refused to pay, but simply asked to review the receipt, to go without consequences. By the way, they were charging us for two drinks that never arrived at the table and for the guacamole that was supposedly complimentary. In short, they were basically doubling the bill. read more

My wife and I took our family there for our son in law's birthday. The food is pretty basic. Not as good as most of the Mexican restaurants that we frequent. The prices are at least 25% more than others. The ambience is good but not great. The service was mediocre! We had to keep reminding the waiter about our orders. They charged $4.50 for chips and salsa (free at all other restaurants). The salsa came in a tiny dish so we had to keep asking for more. $4.00 for a Diet Coke and no refill. $5.00 for a bottle of Mexican coke. They automatically charged a 20% tips (because there were 9 of us) which amounted to $49. That would had been fine if the service was good. As though that wasn't enough, they charged a 3.5% for "Kitchen Appreciation" fee. WTH? They also calculate the tips after tax which gave them a couple more bucks! All in all, this was an underwhelming experience. I would never go back there again and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been to Milagro several times before but this was my first time trying Mesa Mercado! The staff was very friendly when my friends and I walked in, they greeted and seated us immediately. You do have to wait to be seated. 4) our server was very nice and attentive. Professional. He checked on us several times. The made sure we had water in our water cups. 5) our table, utensils cups, plates were all clean. 6) chips and salsa was good. Cost $4.00. 7) they provided a little complimentary mango. 8) all of our food dishes were good. I liked them all. 9) our little one didn't like her chips much. She didn't like the sour cream on it. I liked it though! It came with a churro and whip cream as dessert. Churro was freshly made and delicious. Kids plate and churro was $10.00 10) water tasted good. No funky taste. 11) Cons 1) they charge a $2.00 kitchen appreciation fee on our tab. We didn't see it till we left. So couldn't ask them what that was. Conclusion I liked this restaurant. We were treated to a wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Friday evening around 5:45 pm. The bride had called twice for a reservation for 17 people. The first time to make the reservation and the second time to confirm the reservation. When we arrived they had no clue about the reservation and we had to wait while they set up our tables etc. It worked out ok, but are they clueless? Especially with two phone calls in advance? The bar and good service was good for having to serve 17 people both food and drink. The menu had some interesting dishes on it, but when I asked for a couple of substitutions, it was a flat out "NO CAN DO." An example of that is "can you grill my fish instead of fry the fish for the fish tacos?" NO. Oh well. I decided on the vegan menu with veggie tacos, refried beans and rice. oh, by the way, the only beans they have are refried, no plain pinto beans or black beans. OK, no problem.... I loved my Mango Margarita. The tacos were ok, but they forgot the avocado in my tacos and I couldn't find anyone to ask to bring it. Dessert, churros and flan to share. It wasn't what I hoped for! We ordered online to pick it up. It was Friday night after we got there with the order is ready message, there were a family waiting before us to be seated and we all kept waiting and waiting. Funny part is, there were a lot of staff walking around and passing by. I told my boyfriend to walk around at the mall because it is a very nice ambiance with all the small businesses. In the meantime, I approached to the bar area to figure out where the online order food would be. On the hottest day of the year in sacramento, it was a nice to discover Milagros centre and enjoy a cool interior and ample room to explore a cafe, a pie place, and Mesa Mercado. There was also River City bar and grille but we did not try. It had great natural lighting and lively decor on a Sunday lunch atmosphere. We had the vegan burrito and tasted fresh but needed the spicy and sweet salsa from the new shrimp appetizer to complete what the taste bud needed. My mole Oaxaqueno chicken was just okay. Not outstanding. The chicken breast was moist, cooked perfectly. The brown mole' was smooth but was quite one note. Disclaimer: I'm a mole' snob. I lived in Mexico city for a year way back long ago. I've spent a few months in Oaxaca. I know how a good well aged and seasoned mole' can be transcendent. This Mesa Mercado tastes it was made in a factory and packaged in a jar. It does suspiciously taste like the Dona Maria brand that comes in a jar. Available at Safeway supermarket for $3.80. The white rice was gummy and flavorless. Leathery tortillas were pretty bad, too. Flan was okay. Flavor and texture bordered on rice pudding. Big portion. But the sauce was sweet and practically flavorless. Churros were just chewy rods, made hours ago, no longer crispy. Cajeta inside was again just packaged tasting. The enchilada with red sauce was not very good as all I could taste was tomato almost like it was Campbells tomato soup thinned out and poured over it very fruity and the chicken inside had zero flavor and no cheese. The white rice had zero flavor might as well given me steamed rice and the refried beans were fine. Over all nothing amazing about our meal as everyone was unimpressed. The enchilada with red sauce was not very good as all I could taste was tomato almost like it was Campbells tomato soup thinned out and poured over it very fruity and the chicken inside had zero flavor and no cheese. The white rice had zero flavor might as well given me steamed rice and the refried beans were fine. Over all nothing amazing about our meal as everyone was unimpressed. To be honest I've had better meals at some of the smaller taquerias around town. My food came to me cold .The waiter warmed it up .Service was ok . When I went to pay my bill ,the waiter said there's no cash register .He said I don't get my change,It was about 75 cents didn't offer to get it for me. .Who does that ?I wasn't happy . restaurant does that ?The waiter was nice .Kinda of a attitude .He said he's the waiter bartender .To many duties to handle.No change that's ridiculous .Wasn't happy when I left .He made sure he got his tip.He had change for that.wow read more
