We had lunch here with the family and had a good time. We walked in and it was beautifully decorated. There was vibrant decor everywhere on the ceilings and walls. We were seated quickly and got our drinks. We ordered the adobo, braised ribs, and kids meals. The food came out pretty fast and looked delicious. We loved the flavor of everything. Both the meat dishes were tender and sauces rich. I don't know if it was the Filipino in me, but I much preferred the braised ribs with the rice than with the tortillas. Service was fantastic. It was still early and there was only one server but he was great. He was attentive and so nice, especially to our little ones. We tried this restaurant out for the first time! We enjoyed the colorful decor on the ceiling. However, the seats need to be steamed clean because it was very dirty! We actually switched to another table because the one we were at did not appear to be clean. The steak, chicken enchilada mole with rice and beans were fine. My fiancé really enjoyed it bc the meat was more on the rare side. We shared the entree and also ordered the chips and salsa which was $4, so for those who like complimentary chips and salsa, it is not free here. Our server looked pretty busy and we felt sorry for him bc he seemed to be exhausted. The place didn't look too busy and there were a lot of empty tables, probably 3 other tables were occupied. We've joined the sacveganchefchallenge, and our first stop was Mesa Mercado, just WOW! What a great start! Our server was attentive and patient. We were pretty early before the dinner rush, so we could pick his brain about the dishes we ordered. They didn't have official names for their two dishes, but both were incredible. The first was crispy tostadas topped with nopales and a rich tomatillo sauce. The second was enchiladas filled with nopales and mushrooms, also drenched in that same amazing sauce. Both dishes were outstanding, but that tomatillo sauce stole the show! We wanted to lick our plates clean... but somehow resisted. They also have a vegan section on their regular menu, so we couldn't resist trying one of those dishes too and ordered the molè with plantains. The molè was rich, sweet, and deeply chocolaty, so we asked for another small dish of THAT tomatillo sauce. Met family for dinner and wanted to check out Mesa Mercado. We were seated right away as we were there around 5pm. Happy hour time. Good choices for happy hour menu. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Our server brought menus and told us about the menu. We decided on an appetizer of fresh guacamole (which you mix yourself so you can add your spices). I've been coming to this spot for years, and it continues to be one of my favorite low key go to places. I even have a regular order here (which is rare for me) the Carnitas a la Mercado! Let me tell you, it's delish. I'm a sucker for pulled pork, and the way they pair it with salsa, beans, and rice? Chef's kiss. It hits every time. The staff here is consistently friendly, they're around when you need something but don't hover or interrupt, which I really appreciate. The seating is cozy, and yes, I'm even a fan of the chairs, they're cute and comfy. Whether I'm catching up with girlfriends over margaritas and tacos, or enjoying a laid back date night with my boo, this place never disappoints. It's got that easy, chill vibe that keeps me coming back. Plus, being located in the Milagro Centre, it's practically a tradition at this point to walk over and grab some gelato after. Win-win. This restaurant is part of a food court. On one end is a pub and on the other end is a Japanese restaurant and Italian restaurant. We have eaten at the Pub twice and really liked it. We thought we'd venture out and try the Mexican restaurant. They have a huge private lot so there is no need to worry about parking. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to the rain we opted to eat indoors. Outside in front of the Italian restaurant was a Saxaphone player. The music was beautiful but way too cold to really enjoy it outside. The ambiance is very festive. Their celling is very colorful with parasols hanging and tin stars hanging. The restaurant has a courtyard feel as there are no back walls and it opens up to a ice cream shop and the walkway to the bathroom. One downfall is the chips and salsa are not complimentary. That is a big shortcoming. They should always complimentary at Mexican restaurants. The chips were really good and so was the trio of salsas. There wasn't enough salsa to match with the chips. They salsa containers need to be bigger. I got and enjoyed the: Nopales con Carne de Puerco en Salsa Roja18.5 Fall off the bone tender braised pork short ribs in a rich tomatillo, guajillo chile, serrano and nopal sauce. You'll experience each remarkable  avor in this dish! Served with creamy refried pinto beans and fluffy white rice to capture any extra sauce. I was surprised that they serve it with white rice. I would think they would serve it with a Mexican style rice. The white rice was good, but not what I would expect from a Mexican Restaurant. My husband got the fish Tacos. I had a few bites. My wife and I took our family there for our son in law's birthday. The food is pretty basic. Not as good as most of the Mexican restaurants that we frequent. The prices are at least 25% more than others. The ambience is good but not great. The service was mediocre! We had to keep reminding the waiter about our orders. They charged $4.50 for chips and salsa (free at all other restaurants). The salsa came in a tiny dish so we had to keep asking for more. $4.00 for a Diet Coke and no refill. $5.00 for a bottle of Mexican coke. They automatically charged a 20% tips (because there were 9 of us) which amounted to $49. That would had been fine if the service was good. As though that wasn't enough, they charged a 3.5% for "Kitchen Appreciation" fee. WTH? They also calculate the tips after tax which gave them a couple more bucks! All in all, this was an underwhelming experience. I would never go back there again and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

So it started...we were greeted and seated promptly. and just a couple of minutes in, a man who we thought was our waiter, came up and took our drink order. So we were at the mercy of the drink orders coming in to the bar. The service was very slow at best. but the food was good. But our waiter never came around - Gustavo was busy at the bar. So we got our food and it was good - just like last time - only this time not very hot. So then we wanted another drink and no one was around. I was sitting with my back to the bar. I kept looking around and no one came. So I turned and saw him standing there talking to the first 'Waiter' and cleaning the bar. I couldn't get either of their attentions so I had to walk over and order my drink over the bar. Food was good. Service was NOT. Then after I paid the bill, I noticed that I was charged $4.66 for a "Delivery Fee" which is ACTUALLY a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee." So another episode of a FORCED Gratuity in the restaurant. I grew up in the S.F Mission District and I know that Mexican Food does NOT have to be spicy to be tasty. We came her for dinner and I explained my aversion to spicy AND how cilantro tastes like soap to me. I got a wonderful plate of carnitas with yummy beans and rice with pico (no cilantro) on the side. I've been to Milagro several times before but this was my first time trying Mesa Mercado! The staff was very friendly when my friends and I walked in, they greeted and seated us immediately. I went with their Mexican wet nachos as my entree. It was delicious, the chips were house made and fried to perfection, it had toppings of beans, guacamole, salsa and cheese. You do have to wait to be seated. 4) our server was very nice and attentive. Professional. He checked on us several times. The made sure we had water in our water cups. 5) our table, utensils cups, plates were all clean. 6) chips and salsa was good. Cost $4.00. 7) they provided a little complimentary mango. 8) all of our food dishes were good. I liked them all. 9) our little one didn't like her chips much. She didn't like the sour cream on it. I liked it though! It came with a churro and whip cream as dessert. Churro was freshly made and delicious. Kids plate and churro was $10.00 10) water tasted good. No funky taste. 11) Cons 1) they charge a $2.00 kitchen appreciation fee on our tab. We didn't see it till we left. So couldn't ask them what that was. Conclusion I liked this restaurant. We have ordered food for pick up from here many times and always enjoyed it, but tonight we were feeling adventurous so we went in and ate! The servers were friendly, attentive and quick. The place was decorated for christmas and was beautiful. I love that they have a vegan menu. Lots of great options. We got a few different tacos and they were all good. We were treated to a wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Friday evening around 5:45 pm. The bride had called twice for a reservation for 17 people. The first time to make the reservation and the second time to confirm the reservation. When we arrived they had no clue about the reservation and we had to wait while they set up our tables etc. It worked out ok, but are they clueless? Especially with two phone calls in advance? The bar and good service was good for having to serve 17 people both food and drink. The menu had some interesting dishes on it, but when I asked for a couple of substitutions, it was a flat out "NO CAN DO." An example of that is "can you grill my fish instead of fry the fish for the fish tacos?" NO. Oh well. I decided on the vegan menu with veggie tacos, refried beans and rice. oh, by the way, the only beans they have are refried, no plain pinto beans or black beans. OK, no problem.... I loved my Mango Margarita. The tacos were ok, but they forgot the avocado in my tacos and I couldn't find anyone to ask to bring it. Dessert, churros and flan to share. Flan was the biggest I have seen anywhere, ice cream with the churros was good. Churros were not very crisp. The restaurant is colorful and decorated nicely. Very cheery. It wasn't what I hoped for! We ordered online to pick it up. It was Friday night after we got there with the order is ready message, there were a family waiting before us to be seated and we all kept waiting and waiting. Funny part is, there were a lot of staff walking around and passing by. I told my boyfriend to walk around at the mall because it is a very nice ambiance with all the small businesses. In the meantime, I approached to the bar area to figure out where the online order food would be. Staff person there said they will bring it to us when it is ready, I thought it was ready but anyways, online system makes mistakes. So we kept waiting with the same family in front of us. Few minutes later I saw a senior man passing by with an online order bag and I followed his tracks back to where he came from the other side of the bar just to find my order sitting there! So I checked the name, it was my order, I told the staff person at the bar, this is what I was asking, where would I find my bag and she said it shouldn't be sitting there! Anyways! We took the bag and ice cream from Ghiotto Gelato and came back home expecting a nice dine at home night... but no. Our order was missing a horchata and in the description of these very delicious tacos says and quote "Three large tortillas..." we only but two! Very disappointed! What a unique Mexican restaurant! Absolutely adorable and the food is quite tasty. It's Hispanic heritage month, so I wonder if it's decorated just for that or if it always looks as cute as it did! If you're looking for an aesthetic restaurant to enjoy, this is the place to go. Our waiter was very helpful and brought us everything we asked for quickly. We started with the bean dip and queso. Both were great starters. The bean dip was pretty salty, so it would be good to order something like salsa or guacamole to go with it. Then I tried the fish taco. The flavors were good and I liked the cabbage on top, but the batter on the fish was quite soggy in the tortilla. The carne asada taco however was absolutely delicious. On the hottest day of the year in sacramento, it was a nice to discover Milagros centre and enjoy a cool interior and ample room to explore a cafe, a pie place, and Mesa Mercado. There was also River City bar and grille but we did not try. It had great natural lighting and lively decor on a Sunday lunch atmosphere. We had the vegan burrito and tasted fresh but needed the spicy and sweet salsa from the new shrimp appetizer to complete what the taste bud needed. The shrimp appetizer was also great and low carbs for a light lunch. Perfectly flavorful and great texture. Looking forward to try other dishes here in the future and escape the heat! read more

A 3 stars review is an okay judgement? So this restaurant food is okay. Not great. 17 of us here for wedding rehearsal dinner. The crowd pretty much ordered everything on the menu. I got to taste a few other dishes in addition to mine. The thick crunchy topopos (tortilla chips) were enjoyable. Not too greasy. The trio of dipping salsas also were piquant. My mole Oaxaqueno chicken was just okay. Not outstanding. The chicken breast was moist, cooked perfectly. The brown mole' was smooth but was quite one note. Disclaimer: I'm a mole' snob. I lived in Mexico city for a year way back long ago. I've spent a few months in Oaxaca. I know how a good well aged and seasoned mole' can be transcendent. This Mesa Mercado tastes it was made in a factory and packaged in a jar. It does suspiciously taste like the Dona Maria brand that comes in a jar. Available at Safeway supermarket for $3.80. The white rice was gummy and flavorless. Leathery tortillas were pretty bad, too. Flan was okay. Flavor and texture bordered on rice pudding. Big portion. But the sauce was sweet and practically flavorless. Churros were just chewy rods, made hours ago, no longer crispy. Cajeta inside was again just packaged tasting. My first time here (my sister suggested this place for lunch) and I was wowed upon entering the restaurant with the fabulous festive decor. I walked around snapping pics before we were seated. The ofrenda was gorgeous and included photos of lost loved ones. Our server was quite nice and helped us with selecting which margaritas to order. I had the tamarind margarita and loved the flavor. My sister recommended the Poblano soup and it was delicious. There are quite a few vegan options on the menu which was appreciated (I'm a vegetarian though because I cannot give up queso!) I also appreciated that upon arrival a complimentary small plate of mango sprinkled with tajin is served. The only disappointment was the vegetarian enchiladas- I loved all the mushrooms inside but it was smothered in a quite sour green sauce. My sisters tamale also was and it deterred from the taste of both our dishes. Our appetizers arrived in an acceptable amount of time however, if I want to make my own guacamole I'll stay home and eat. How anyone thinks that's cool well. The bean dip was flavorless and bland not sure why it was called a dip it was just a bowl of black beans with cotija cheese sprinkled on it. The ceviche was on point. We were given three tiny bowls of salsa for 8 people and had to ask for more. Our lunch finally arrived after approximately 30 minutes. I had the carne asada, enchilada, rice and beans. Not sure what this chef finds difficult about adding flavor to the food as the carne asada was not tender and all I could taste was char due to it being over cooked. The enchilada with red sauce was not very good as all I could taste was tomato almost like it was Campbells tomato soup thinned out and poured over it very fruity and the chicken inside had zero flavor and no cheese. This is the second time at this restaurant. The first time was before the pandemic. I remember ordering the enchilada which was so good. Fast forward 2 years and I am back. I ordered the mole chicken with rice and warm tortilla. This is the second time I've tried mole and this mole was bitter. I had to take the sauce off the chicken and drown it with salsa. The rice was sour as if it was old. I am not sure what is going on today. The appetizers guacamole with chips and salsa with chips was delicious. This is a great place to hang with friends, or a fun date night place :-) We usually start out with ceviche and chips. Yum! I wish that the ceviche was more consistent, but it's still tasty nonetheless. My go to are the enchiladas, or occasionally the tacos. The enchiladas are filled with meat, and I request that they go heavy with the sauce. My experience has been that if I don't ask, they arrive more on the dry side. Service is good, food is good. The prices are reasonable. Parking is free and easy! It's really the type of place that when you're done dining, you'd like to walk around, but unfortunately, other than some of the other restaurants, there's not really a place to do that.
