This is near the Milagro Center in Citrus Heights and this is a Hidden Gem for a great Mexican food. . I got to try out there Blackberry mojito which was really refreshing and I do love the fresh homemade BlackBerry concentrate. . I also really like their mangonada which is a blended-up drink and I love the fresh mangoes in it. . I started off with their brriria tacos which had nice chunks of beef and a really nice sauce to dip in it as well follow along with cilantro and onions for the topping. . I really like their fish and shrimp ceviche which was really refreshing and it was a big platter and it is great for sharing. . We also got to sample the enchilada three flavors with a mole which was on a sweeter side. Also we got a red and green sauce enchilada. For the proteins we got one cheese and one chicken and one spicy pork. The protein ones was really good even the cheese one was cheesy as well. . I really like their fish taco and shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was actually grilled to Perfection and has really nice top shredded lettuce and cheese. The fish taco was grilled and it was good as well and I like how it was fresh. . They also have cilantro and lime rice and it was very zesty flavorful. We also started off with some kind of asada fries and it has a really nice cheesy pull and toppings on top. . For the dessert we had churro and ice cream with lots of whipped cream and sprinkles. I really like the churro because in the middle it was filled with some cinnamon cream and it was really good. . Overall the experience was really great and we love the service because it was really friendly and quick on their feet with refilling our water and bringing our drinks quickly. The Ambiance and the hair is very family and cozy and it is really cute with a nice stage on top. There is cozy Booth where you can just enjoy with your family or your date. For Cinco de Mayo they are doing a big celebration with Mariachi and Aztec dancing as well.

We've been here several times. Our first was during Covid and we ordered delivery it was so good we've kept coming back. This time I had the Birria tacos. They were excellent with a cheesy crunch on the tortillas and delicious birria dip. My wife had the mix burrito with Al pastor and it was also great. Carlos has served us multiple times and he is always right on top of things. The decor of the restaurant is an Aztec and Mexico theme. Bathrooms are clean and smell sanitary. We're definitely coming back again and again.

Came back a couple years later for another happy hour, but this time isn't as good as 2 years ago. I blame COVID as the prices went up and the food quantity went down. Still not a bad place for happy hours, but just not as great of a deal as before. The Mexican taco plate said 3 tortillas with choice of meat. I thought it was going to be 3 tacos, but it only had enough meat for 1 taco. Maybe 1.5 tacos.

Haven't been here for happy hours yet but will soon.

Ok. So I know I just posted a couple days ago, but we came in today to eat and try a Moscow Mule made by Carlos (I know it doesn't belong in a Mexican restaurant, but it is my favorite drink). This was in my top 3 Moscow Mules I have had. This was very close to the best ever that I had in a high end bar in Las Vegas. It was soo well balanced and delicious . Our food again was amazing. All of the flavors here a rich and deep. We ordered the same as last time, the enchiladas trio and chili rellenos. We had forgotten we were going to try the fajitas next . Oh well, I guess that means we have to come back .

First time coming here and the service was excellent. They have a Monday- Friday happy hour with $5 margaritas. The food was delicious . Definitely coming back

Had gone into this shopping area looking for the Sushi restaurant. Closed. Noticed this place and headed towards it. We could hear the Mexican music playing and instantly loved it. It was really busy, but we were seated and brought menus, chips and water right away. Our waiter was fabulous and very courteous. We also noticed that the waiters and waitresses all help each other with all the customers. I had the Mexican Shrimp Salad that was so delicious. I had enough to take home for tomorrow's lunch. The broth was the best I have ever tasted. My husband had the Carnitas fries and a piece of Flan. He loved both. Prices were a bit on the high side for some of the dishes, but we felt it was definitely worth it and come back next time we are in this area.

Leslie T.

We had an overall good experience . Waiter was very kind . we ordered the menudo and we enjoyed it and the michelada was good too ! Our friends got the mole enchiladas and they were also tasty

Cadillac Margarita - they give you a shot on the side!

I'm very disappointed for the price. I ordered fajitas ($40), and a super wet burrito ($25) and it really was a meal that should've been $30 tops. In my burrito I asked for just refried beans, meat and cheese, no rice or fajita veggies and my burrito had that, but was small and consisted of one small smudge of beans. I paid $25, you can at least replace the other ingredients I removed for the others I asked for. And the fajitas were very basic, nothing special. The meat was very fatty and came with three tortillas for $40.. The food did not taste bad, but seriously! That should be a crime to charge so much for such a basic meal. If you want to pay twice as much as another Mexican restaurant for the same food, come to cantina Azteca. I really enjoyed eating here in person before, but I won't ever order to go again.

Louise E.

Wanted to try this place and got the chance since we were in the area. I ordered the prime fajitas. It was okay but it was not that much in terms of food portion and since I generally don't like bell peppers, this dish was not for me. It tasted good though. Our server forgot to gave us the complimentary chips and I even had to ask for it. Another downside here was it was quite expensive here.

Markus R.

The location is alright. It's in the heart of Fair Oaks surrounded by many other businesses and shopping centers. It's about as suburban as you can get. There is a parking lot so that should not be an issue. We came in a large party so it was expected that the service would be alright. They were able to split the check which was awesome. The food came out in a reasonable time, about 15-20 minutes. The prices are about average for a restaurant. Expect to walk out of here for around $40 for a meal for two. The flavor was decent. Nothing to ride home about but also not bad. Just that sweet spot where the meal was filling and enjoyable. Their horchata was delicious and I quite enjoyed their rice. The only issue we faced was that our meal came with a topping that we asked to not be included. Might have been an oversight or a simple mistake, but on the "re-fry" it was wrong again! Coming from a restaurant background, I understand that mistakes happen so I'm not going to let it ruin my experience. Bottom line/TLDR: about average Mexican food restaurant.

I only celebrate my birthday here! Owner is fantastic!! The servers are always friendly and help us create our vegan/vegetarian order(s) to perfection!!

My mom enjoyed her taco salad but my dish was a small mole enchilada with old rice and beans. It was not something I enjoyed and I finished my plate still feeling hungry! It was a let down. The hibiscus drink was good but a bit sweet We came back another day just for their fresh juices- we got really good options and hope to come back for the drink , but not sure about the food

Go there once a week for their chilaquiles. So amazing and leave full. I'm one of those snobs that says all Mexican food outside of southern CA is trash but this place is the exception. I take all visitors from southern CA here and they're always good with it. Prices are super fair too. read more

We had been to their sister business, Rey Azteca and noticed they had a good online catering menu. We needed a Baby shower catered, so we tried this restaurant for lunch first. The food was well prepared, and delicious, our minds were set on their yummy food! Our lunch service was personal, and good. Turns out our dining professional Lourdes is also the catering coordinator. She was so helpful in taking our catering order, it was a breeze considering our event was 2 1/2 weeks away (we feared we hadn't provided enough time). On the day of catering pick-up, everybody was so pleasant, the loading assistance allowed and helped to make sure I had everything before heading to the event. The 25 guests complimented the delicious Mexican food, and enjoyed the variety of food with the DIY meals. Thank You Lourdes, and Cantina Azteca Restaurant!! read more

Cute, cute, cute restaurant! Hubby found it driving in the area last week so we decided to stop by for lunch today. We arrived around 2:30PM and the bar/bar area was packed. I met one regular customer (always a good sign), and wandered around the beautifully painted restaurant. James was our server who took excellent care of us. Hubby ordered chicken enchiladas with cilantro rice, refried beans, sour cream and guacamole. I ordered the carne asada nachos. The enchiladas were covered in a garlic sauce that was amazing! The rice was delicious but it had more of a lemony taste (which we enjoyed), as opposed to being a cilantro rice in color and taste. The nachos was hot and piled high. Carne asada seasoned perfectly, fresh tortilla chips, and a special order fruit infused water. We will definitely dine again, great experience and good food. read more

To-Go review: I decided to Doordash from here for Cinco De Mayo. Was not disappointed one bit. They seem to have very much adapted to the current times, and I'm 1000% here for it. Not only did they have my food completed extremely fast, but it was at my front door within the hour! Gotta love the speedy service. For those of you who don't know, they have an combo order option called Netflix & Tacos. I know what you're thinking, and yes it absolutely is just as amazing as it sounds. Easily the best deal I have ever ordered to go! The Netflix & Tacos deal comes with the following: - 10 tacos (5 chicken and 5 carnitas) - Chips & Salsa (a very giving serving) - 2 strong margaritas When I say "strong" just know that is an absolute understatement. I was feeling quite fantastic after finishing my drink, not to mention... it comes in a tall plastic bikini cup. Yes, you heard that right. A bikini cup. I'm keeping it forever as a souvenir. Bravo, Cantina Azteca! You guys are absolutely adapting to this whole Covid-19 situation, and you now have a new fan. I will be ordering more to support you guys during these times. read more

I so want to enjoy this place. Unfortunately the margaritas were watered down. Came with the kiddos and their kid's menu cheese quesadillas were $7.99 with a $5 up charge for rice and beans but the kid's taco plate with sides included is $9. Don't understand the math. I wanted to enjoy the food but it was subpar at best. What was even better the management were less than cordial to an unsuspecting Spanish speaker in which the staff only spoke badly about us because they didn't think we understood Spanish. $86 dollars later...they tried to bribe us with balloons for the kids because apparently the kids paid the bill. And yes, we paid and gave a tip. Giving the 2 stars for the server who's only the messenger for the management. Buena suerte read more

Was super hungry after the DMV and found this restaurant in passing so I figured I'd give it a try.. I am a HUGE chips and salsa fan so I scrutinize it to a fault sometimes. Lol this place did not disappoint their salsa is fantastic not to chunky but not just liquid. Nice garlic flavor and perfectly thick chips. I ordered an Adobada taco and unfortunately I was so hungry I forgot to take a pic but it was fantastic stuffed with meat and lettuce and two kinds of cheese on top. It tasted like they marinated their adobada in some pineapple or some fruit cuz there were a few bites that had a sweet taste which I'm not used to but it complimented the taco well. I will definitely be back super friendly staff. If u go ask for Leticia she is awesome!!! Very patient and very kind. Overall wonderful experience. read more

I've been here twice and both times the food and service were great! The inside is cute with the cantina Mexican feel and today there was a musician performing live with his guitar. I've had the tacos alambres which were soooo good the additional charge for chorizo is worth it! Today I had the 2 cheese enchiladas which were good as well not the traditional red sauce. They had a butter garlic flavor and cheese, although it was different it was good. Their beans are cheesy and the rice is good too for sides. Now the best part is their salsa bar which is FREE and unlimited. Their chips are good and warm and every single one of their salsas are tasty. Idk why any mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa when they're pretty cheap and authentic Mexican restaurants never charge for them. read more

My husband and I LOVE coming here! The food and customer service is always amazing. We enjoy coming on taco Tuesday for $1.50 Mexican tacos all day. Friday's are also really fun because they have live music and then karaoke at night near the bar. My favorite dishes are the Mexican tacos, Arrachera tacos, Azteca salad, their beef soup and chicken tortilla soup. They have an all you can eat chip bar with a variety of salsas. My favorite is the sour cream salsa. My husband loves the nachos, salmon tacos, Mexican tacos, bacon cheeseburger (yes I said bacon cheeseburger, it's actually really good!) Maira was our server for tonight and she is always amazing! I guess you would consider us regulars, as we know most of the staff by name. The restaurant is family owned, Isma is really friendly and puts a lot of care into the business. He treats his costumers and staff well. He always has a smile on his face. The cafe has 2 sides to sit in and is decorated with decorations of the current holiday. We had the sweetest server, Debbie, and she made sure that the coffee cups on our table were always filled with hot coffee. My father in law had the French Toast and crispy bacon. It was a large portion of French Toast and the bacon was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Ham egg scramble with pancakes. He said his eggs were light, fluffy and very good. His 2 pancakes were large and looked really fluffy too.... I took a bite of his pancake and it has great flavor and was perfectly cooked. I ordered the veggie omelette With Jack cheese. I was able to substitute no zucchini for sausage. I choose crispy hash browns and a biscuit on the side with a side of biscuits and gravy gravy. My omelette was a 3 egg omelette, my hash browns were a perfect crispy and the side of biscuits and sausage gravy was flavorful and very good. They serve breakfast and lunch and all of their food is reasonably priced. A few lunch items, like fish n chips or a French dip are only $12.50...not too pricey at all. If you are looking for delicious hot food, friendly servers and reasonable prices this is the place for you. We will definitely be going back to The Hungry Halloween Cafe soon! I unfortunately forgot to take some pictures of our food this morning.... We were all hungry and as soon as our food came out we dug in... lol

Unfortunately, we left wondering how it has such a high rating. I ordered the Country Scramble. The potatoes seemed boiled rather than fried and were very soft and mushy. That made the entire scramble watery and mushy as well. On the positive side, the sourdough toast was good. The biggest issue, though, was the cleanliness. In the bathroom, I saw three dead cockroaches and what appeared to be rat droppings around the edges of the floor. That was extremely unpleasant and honestly made it difficult to feel comfortable eating there. Based on our experience with both the food and cleanliness, my wife and I would not recommend Hungry Hollow Café, and we would not return. I rarely leave a review like this, but cleanliness in a restaurant is something I take seriously.

We were seated in a booth upon request while we waited for her to arrive. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to my son. When my daughter-in-law joined us, Amy took our order right away. I kid you not--I got everything I wanted from the menu and it was worth every penny spent, my son got a teddy bear pancake (which was reasonably priced), and I was even able to add an egg to my Western burger. My daughter-in-law placed her order, and off the waitress went. Moments later, our food arrived. It was fast, hot, and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, my daughter-in-law received the wrong meal, but Amy worked her magic again. She immediately took ownership of the mistake and corrected it without us having to do much more than point it out. Afterward, they let my son pick out a toy. He ended up choosing two, and because he has nonverbal autism and doesn't get out much, that small act of kindness meant the world to me. No one stopped him or complained about him picking more than one. It was heartwarming because I often feel judged over little things by people who don't know our story. Instead, we felt genuinely welcomed here. I danced in the car and sang to my son all the way home because I was so happy after our experience. Our server was amazing; you could tell she enjoyed what she did. When my husband got home from work, I couldn't stop gushing about what a wonderful experience we had together. We enjoyed our order aside from noticing that portions appeared to be smaller (see images of the fair oaks burger and carrot cake). During this visit we noticed that there was a discrepancy with the charges. We asked a server because our server was busy attending to other tables and we needed to pay. We were told that it had to do with an automatic "service charge" and the other was if you paid cash you get a dollar off? For example, the Lido Shuffle on the menu says $16.95 but on the receipt we were charged $17.46 and then the burger stated $12.95 but on the receipt it was $13.34. We just think that there can be better transparency as to why there is an upcharge on items. Or they can perhaps update the menu?? When we asked the server, it appeared as though she did not know truly know the answer. While we like the food here, despite the decrease in portions, it's important for customers to know what they are paying instead of being misled.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cantina Azteca , and I must say it was an absolute delight from start to finish! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The decor was beautifully authentic, with colorful accents and charming Mexican artwork that set the perfect ambiance for an unforgettable dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food - it was nothing short of spectacular! Each dish was bursting with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. From the sizzling fajitas to the mouthwatering tacos and savory enchiladas, every bite was a true culinary delight. And let's not forget about the homemade salsa and guacamole - simply divine! Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation was also impeccable. Each dish was artfully plated, showcasing the chef's attention to detail and culinary expertise. To top it all off, the service was outstanding. Our server Israel was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. Overall, exceeded all of my expectations and left me eager to return for another unforgettable meal. Whether you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine or simply looking for a cozy spot to enjoy good food and great company, I highly recommend paying them a visit. You won't be disappointed! Good lord, if you thought that the service was slow at the original Rey Azteca you will be shocked by the slow delivery of food at this place! It took an hour, well 55 minutes for the cooks to make 2 plates of eggs and beans. Granted, it was a busy Sunday at 11:45 AM, but still, why does an egg take so long to prepare. (BTW it's now 1:37 PM and we JUST finished our meal) As for the food, it was as good as expected for a Rey Azteca establishment. However, the prices were not commensurate with what you get. For example I paid $10.99 for a scrambled egg and beans! For that price you would expect that they would at least serve it with Mexican rice. Not only that, but you still have to get up to get your own chips and salsa! I think next time we want a sit down Mexican breakfast we'll head up the street less than a mile and enjoy the same meal for about $6 at the Adelbertos. There you get the same quality food in about 5 to 10 minutes regardless of how long the line is. I'll try this place one more time because I'm a very big supporter of local business. But if things remain the same you can be sure this review will stand. And for goodness sake, add a scoop of 20 cent rice to the breakfast plates! read more

After moving into the Sacramento area a few months ago I was anxious to leave behind the Mexican restaurants I enjoyed back in LA, however, my anxiety was cured as soon as I gave Cantina Azteca a try. No matter what I order Cantina Azteca is on point with their food, anything from their mariscos to quesabirria tacos the flavors rival those I missed back home. Additionally the staff and restaurant itself provide the most authentic and nice experience one could ask for when enjoying their food. Lastly I just have to give Israel a shout out for consistently going that extra mile when it comes to service, and helpfulness. If you have any questions upon coming in, he is your guy. I was driving around looking for some Mexican food and accidentally stopped by this place. From the moment I walked in the hostess was very pleasant and polite. But OMG, the food was phenomenal, and Maira the waitress. Words can describe the level of customer service that she provided. The one thing that really impressed me was that the owner Ismael, he was very accommodating. He went from table to table greeting everyone and asking if everything was okay with the food and service. Since we're celebrating Latinx Heritage Month, I thought it would be wonderful to visit Mesa…read moreMercado! I was told I had to check out Milagro Centre in Carmichael after my hair appointment, and I'm so glad I did! It's such a fun indoor-outdoor gathering spot, with several independently owned restaurants brought together in a lively, open market-style setting. I can only imagine how immaculate that giant outdoor fireplace looks when it's lit up at night! After seeing Italian food, sushi, gelato, pie, and River City Brewing among our options, my friend and I decided on Mesa Mercado. We were in the mood for some good Mexican food, and the ratings here looked great! Owned by founder Ernesto Delgado, Mesa Mercado was designed to celebrate and preserve the traditions of Latin American culture. When we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere we liked. Mesa Mercado was decorated to the MAX, and it was beautiful! There were hanging plants, piñatas, and vibrant papel picado banners everywhere. Even the bar area was decorated with dehydrated lime wheels piled high inside a tall glass jar. It was colorful and fun while still having an elegant look to it. The restaurant was very quiet, but we arrived between the lunch and dinner rushes. We were greeted by Remmi and given a taster of small mango pieces sprinkled with tajin... mmmm, nice touch, because that made us feel super special from the start. Right away, we ordered the salsa sampler, featuring a taste of salsas from around the world, along with an order of warm black beans. We received one basket of chips to share between the two appetizers, but it was honestly the perfect amount because we probably wouldn't have finished two baskets anyway. All three salsas were tasty! One was a traditional red salsa, the next was salsa verde, and the last was made with peppers and had a slightly sweet flavor. The black beans needed salt, but I got to add to my like l liking and that was great. They were otherwise tasty. For lunch, my friend ordered the "Pick Two Items" with a crispy chicken taco and a chicken enchilada with green sauce, which our server, Remmi, recommended. Her plate also came with rice and beans topped with cotija cheese. I ordered the Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. We were HUNGRY, so we were excited when our food arrived--and everything looked so yummy! My friend enjoyed her plate, although her enchilada was accidentally served with red sauce instead of the recommended green sauce. The chicken in her taco had great flavor.... juicy and tender. But I have to say, nothing could compete with my Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. That burrito was freaking OUTSTANDING! The carnitas were soooo tender and savory with the verde sauce, the green tortilla was unbelievably soft... every flavor danced together in my mouth! I loved every bite! After finishing half, I was full AF, lol, but I was genuinely excited to take the rest home because now I get to enjoy it twice! At some point, I ordered a Cadillac margarita. Remmi made it for me, and it came with a Tajín rim and one of those dehydrated lime wheels as a garnish. It was super delicious and beautiful! Remmi was an awesome server. He was patient, kind, and attentive throughout our entire visit. He took great care of us and helped make our first experience at Mesa Mercado even better. With food this flavorful, a beautiful atmosphere, and great service, I can absolutely see myself coming back sooner rather than later!

My Sister in Law ordered one of their Shrimp plates and it was super fishy tasting - she ended up sending it back. She ordered an Enchilada plate instead and the meat was incredibly salty, she couldn't eat it either. Our server was great, attentive and patient though. Overall, I do love the ambiance of El Palmar and we always free welcomed when we visit, but I feel like the food is steadily declining each time we visit. I don't see us coming back unfortunately.

Nice as they could be and big portions but I wouldn't recommend it.

If I consider all the criteria, including proximity, value, quality, and the sheer volume of visits,…read moreI would probably say Don Quixote on Watt Avenue has my favorite breakfast burrito in Sacramento. Let me tell you why. First of all the cost, they sell their breakfast burritos for only $8.50 each-these days that's super cheap. Secondly the quality-I've tried all five varieties of breakfast burritos here are my thoughts. -Chorizo 10/10 item -Bacon 9/10 item -Ranchero 8.5/10 item -Machaca 7/10 item -Veggie 6.5/10 item Chorizo-Bacon & Ranchero are generally the top three, I rotate through and all of them are just elite-I recommend them highly-taste-seasoning-volume-all incredible ways to start your day. Machaca is just ok-just not my favorite texture-wise Veggie just isn't my thing-I'm sure it's just fine for vegetarians but I'm not that,so yeah not for me. Thirdly their sauces are so incredible, they have two of the top sauces, their avocado blend and their chunky red, that are two of the best sauces I've run across in Sacramento-truly elite. Lastly I think I really enjoy interacting with their staff-always friendly, always personal, they always greet me with a smile on their face and in their voice-I really do appreciate them. Inside they have many tables if one chooses to dine inside while also having tables outside if one prefers outside dining. This is a casual restaurant,so no need to get dressed up or anything, casual dining at its finest. Parking is easily available as well as they share a decent sized lot with multiple other businesses. In closing, If you're ever in the Watt/Marconi area and want to try a quality breakfast burrito-I'd fully recommend stopping by and giving them a try-they have never failed me.

The decor is adorable and you can tell it's been around for awhile. It is very much a 90s Mexican establishment. They are missing the late night crowd and a happy hour though. No cilantro but good flavor. We were really impressed and it tasted very homemade. Carnitas burrito and chicken taquitos: both were fine, meat on both were a bit dry but solved easily with toppings and salsa Rice: also on the dryer side, had more spices than usual, but still lacked flavor or maybe just salt? Beans: came out very hot with shredded cheese on top. We enjoyed these quite a bit.

We stopped in tonight just before closing because my husband was craving enchiladas- his absolute favorite. Now, a little backstory: my husband is extremely picky, so for him to specifically crave a dish from a particular restaurant is saying a lot. The moment he suggested Kico's, it's a no brainer for me - I ordered my usual-the chicken chimichanga- which is hands down my favorite item on the menu and, by a landslide, the BEST chimichanga in Sacramento. Our food came out piping hot, gooey, cheesy, and seasoned to perfection. We also got a side of their homemade tortillas, which were absolutely delicious and authentically made. I decided to try a blended strawberry margarita tonight, and wow- it was easily one of the best strawberry margaritas I've had in years. Not overly sweet, packed with real strawberry flavor, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of tequila and a hint of salt. Kico's is top-tier authentic Mexican food- no frills just quality, consistency, and great food every single time. Twenty years later, and they're still getting it right.
