Oysters!
Brandi S.

I dropped by on my way home from Millerton. This place is super cute on the inside. I sat at the bar and was quickly attended to. I had a mixed drink which was delicious (and mighty strong!) and then had a beer. Great drink and beer selection. They also had an oyster special so I had a few. They were delicious!

Exceptionally cute / Wes Anderson-esq vibes from this gem. The impressive organic wine list and cocktail menu makes for a great start followed by the carefully curated food menu. The clam chowder is an absolute treat (as a native Bostonian that's high praise), the wedge was fresh and terrific, and the brown butter polenta as rich and tasty as the name suggests. Dessert was the chocolate pots de crème and a scoop of gelato - decadent without being overwhelming. Throughout it all the service was absolutely top notch resulting in a superlative experience I hope to repeat in short order!

I am consistently impressed with the food in the Hudson Valley, and Canoe Hill is just the latest reason why. I've only had the one meal so far, but this warm and inviting space is the perfect place to gather for that haphazard, always-later-than-you-wanted it-to-be meal on Friday night, after you've all battled traffic getting out of the city. By that I mean that there's something for every appetite. If you're starving, the porchetta is the real thing, and the burger is about as good as you can hope for (and only $12 with a beer on Mondays). The roasted half chicken makes great use of the preserved lemon, and the oysters are fresh and briny. Frustrated by idiots on the road? Canoe Hill has cocktails. My old fashioned was perfect, and the This One Time In France is quite nice as well. We opted out of wine, but the list seemed quite nice, and Narragansett is only $3, if you want to roll old school. If you inhaled several bags of chips on the car ride and only need a few snacks, you could do infinitely worse than cobbling a meal together of the chicken liver mousse, the whipped salt cod, the burrata, the ricotta toast (anything with bread and something to spread on it is excellent), the brussels sprouts (excellent with eggs in the morning if you can't finish them off), and the oysters. If you think my friends and I are gluttons for ordering that much in one meal, you're probably right. I regret nothing, until the inevitable cardiac arrest...by which time I fully expect science to be able to insert my brain into some sort of bionic body, so I'm living it up now.

This place is DEFINITELY worth visiting. They serve big portions for some seriously good prices. Well kept and with great atmosphere. I highly recommend this place, and the next time I'm in Millbrook I will be stopping by!

You need to look closely, or else you'll pass this place. Once you're in, you'll find a very nicely designed bar area which leads towards the dining room. Sabrina guided us thru the menu, shared her favorites and gave us some great suggestions for cocktails and wine. We ordered a toasted bread with a ricotta spread topped with a mint & pistachio "pesto," and Swedish meatballs as apps. Gnocchi, which was one of the fluffiest and most delicious we've had in a while, and a cheese burger (the bacon jam spread sold me) which was cooked to perfection. We had an apple crisp for dessert, which I normally don't like, but these folks turned me. I'm in and I'm a believer. Thank you for a great dinner and experience, given the horrible experience I had elsewhere the night before. We will be back to Canoe Hill.

A small place with small plates that are well done. The atmosphere is cozy-- not to be confused with comfy. It's a quality-style cozy. Nicely done cocktail and small plate vibe. At night it is very dimly lit by candles

Outstanding service. Thank you Kima. I had the burger. It was very good. Not your typical American burger. Very unique flavor. My wife had the steak. She said she like it a lot.

Hip young crowd. Excellent food, deserts, ambiance! Glad to find such a downtown place in Millbrook!

Great staff. Everything was fantastic. Oysters were fresh and perfectly shucked. Great cocktails and a fun atmosphere. Worth the ride.

Love! Could broaden the menu but it's the spot when guests come to town or outside dining. They never answer the phone tho.

There are multiple rooms. Every single one of them is designed to make you feel like you've been on a guest list this whole time and nobody told you. A written description won't capture it. I'm trying right now and I'm failing. You just have to go. We sat at the bar. The bar looks like the bar in The Shining if the Overlook Hotel had been run by people who actually wanted you to enjoy yourself and not get murdered. The staff are proud of the place and you can feel it, that specific warmth of people who know they're working somewhere worth working. Service like that can't be trained. You either care or you don't. These people care. The food is spectacular. The drinks are better than the food. I'm going to let that sit there because the food is spectacular. I'm not here to tell anyone how to live their life, but bringing your kids to House of Stefas is like using a Lamborghini to pick up mulch. You can do it. It's a free country. But this is a place you take someone when you want them to fall in love with you. This is the restaurant equivalent of a third date where everything goes right. I saw families dining here with children who would be happy with chicken fingers. I don't understand it. House of Stefas is doing things to my palate that I didn't think were possible in the Hudson Valley. Five stars. I would give six but the system won't let me and frankly that kind of restraint is probably healthy.

ORIGIN: After years of anticipation, the House of Stefas…read moreopened in early June 2025. "House" is in reference to the restaurant being located in a former home and being home-like, while Stefas refers to the family name of the two co-owners and brothers who had envisioned it -- John and Paul Stefanopoulos. LOCATION: The restaurant is located on Franklin Avenue. CONCEPT: The co-owners describe the restaurant cuisine as "freestyle Greek". It is a mix of family recipes and their international dining experiences. AMBIANCE: The interior of the building (previously Aurelia restaurant) was completely gutted and reimagined. The design evokes both a sense of surprise and recognition that the two brothers devoted much thought and effort into making the restaurant a special experience for guests. There are many different seating areas, each with comfortable upholstered seats. Together, the ambiance suggests a supper club -- which makes sense as that aligns with the brothers' experience and vision for this location. FOOD: The menu includes many traditional Greek mezze and plates, but also opportunity for culinary splurges and adventures through intriguing options called "Let the Gods Decide" and "Bounty for the Aristocracy". Can't miss the Portokalopita -- an orange-infused sheet cake topped with vanilla bean ice cream and draped in tahini. BEVERAGES: Creative cocktails include the Oracle and Versace 38. SERVICE: The co-owners pride themselves on their orientation towards hospitality and this is reflected in the service. Servers wear cream jackets, something I have yet to see in the region. The enthusiasm to please customers feels authentic.

The ambiance, staff, patrons and drinks were lovely. We tried the Balkan Dancing night with MacNCheez and had a uniquely memorable and fun(rather silly, for us) evening; would definitely go back and recommended it to friends. (Pro Tip: Any type of dancing is a huge plus if you're trying to stay sane! Just go for it!) This place is an escape and a joy as we live through this dark, scary time in history. Sometimes, the fight-of-the-hour is to refuel with laughter and know that you're showing up for a terrific little business and band. Get off the couch tonight! Live an interesting life! (Full disclosure, at one point, there was an openly critical woman dancing next to me as I stumbled along but do I think this place is responsible for one grump's tacky behavior? Did I let her ruin my fun? Nope and nope. 95% of the people were awesome to me, it's just math).
