If you haven't been here, you are missing a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley. We stopped for lunch and sat outside on the patio. The owner (Mike) and his wife (Lauren) could not have been more accommodating for our family, including 2-year old twins. And the food was top-notch! I don't write many reviews but I feel the need to compliment this wonderful hidden gem in an area without many great places to eat. Dining at Canoe Hill is a bit like going to eat at the house of a good friend. The atmosphere is calm, comfortable and relaxing. Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, delightful crowd. The owner Mike has put it all together with meals that are individual and delicious. I like putting together the small plates as suits my mood. Others may like ordering entrees that are the larger single plate serving. The staff and bartender can suggest drinks that match your meal or pallet. Super quaint and tucked away location in the middle of millbrook. The bartender Loren was very friendly and knew a lot about the food, and made an excellent old fashioned. I came here last night for the first time and was very impressed !! It's tucked away on the Main Street, you could walk right bye it not even know it was there. Very cool atmosphere, clean design and comfortable. Food was very good, the Burrata was excellent ! Service was good, not great and the menu print was very small! Hidden Gem on Franklin! We were looking for a place to eat after a visit to the Millbrook Winery and my daughter found this place through yelp. Cannot say enough good things about it. Food is great. Went there for my birthday dinner on Friday. The food was impeccable. Best among the best were the burrata and the polenta; the rhubarb tart and the chocolate mousse were also outstanding. The space is also really beautiful. It was a perfect way to spent my 43rd birthday dinner. read more

A sanctuary of unpretentious class. One night I devoured precision-tooled cocktails while snacking on perfectly executed small plates and a porchetta to die for. On my other visit I nursed a can of beer while noshing on potent, cheesy gratin. A roaring fire served as the centerpiece for Canoe Hill's lovely, unfussy ambience. For such a small space there's a surprising variety of seating options--tables in the thick of the action and private, cozy nooks. The service somehow already has their sea legs for such a new place. Wow, what a find! I can't believe we didn't know about this restaurant. It's tucked away in a little nook in Millbrook New York and it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Maybe they could light up the front better because it is difficult to find. When you enter the restaurant you feel as though you've entered a cozy cocktail bar or club in NYC, similar to Minetta Tavern or a stylish Brooklyn restaurant. The design of this space is beautiful, lighting is dim and just right, candles, great music. This is the spot to hang out if you live in the area, a mix of locals, city people and cool kids. Whoever designed this place made it for everyone. Prices are very reasonable, half of a free range chicken was around $19, cocktails are perfectly made and the wine list is one of the best we've seen. They serve de la paz coffee which is one of my favorites. Such a great find! read more

I had my birthday dinner here last Friday, and it was the perfect place for an insanely delicious meal and a great spot to hang out and drink insanely delicious drinks with my friends! Service was TOP NOTCH, Mike, the owner is super friendly and accommodating. Bartenders are lovely, and make a mean drink. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Charming, inviting, cool, chic little restaurant with some great food. Loved the sunny side up egg over creamy Parmesan polenta and the silky chocolate mousse. Delicious comfort food. Wow! I don't know where to start from...being a native Italian I find myself always comparing foods to my homeland. Well I finally found a place where I can close my eyes and pretend to be in Italy. Food just right: fresh and simple yet amazing. We tried most of the small plates and every single one was perfection. The 1$ oyster after 9 pm is an amazing deal. Talk about overrated. First we ordered an appetizer and were told that it wasn't ready yet and wouldn't be for a while. Entrees were average at best and basically come without sides. Food needed seasoning, sauce...something. Wait staff was indifferent. Few main dish choices which for what you get are overpriced. Don't bother. read more

Was super excited to try canoe hill and boy was it worth it. The reviews online did not disappoint. This place is adorable. Such a cute tiny space with delicious food. There are plenty of options which is wonderful and their menu changes often so for someone like myself who likes to try new restaurants instead of repeating the same ones over again, this will always allow for new experiences. We shared a variety of plates from the cauliflower, beet salad, peach and tomato salad, zucchini bread (simply divine) to the hanger steak, halibut, and cast iron burger. All plates were left completely clean. Great job to the staff! We will be back!!! read more

I've eaten here twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. My only complaint is that it isn't located in Cold Spring! The food is incredible. New to Millbrook. We highly recommend!! We live in town and have some of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley and we can now add one more to the list. We had a phenomenal dining experience at Canoe Hill. The atmosphere is very cool. It's like you are transported to NYC or Boston. Cool bar- the place has been totally redone inside. Creative and Delicious; this farm to table serves Small plates, salads, and entrees. The dining experience started with a great pour on my wine, followed by a dozen oysters from 3 regions and a delicata squash salad which was as creative as it was delicious. We were told 3-5 types of oysters will be a signature on their menu which is great considering not many restaurants in the HV area carry oysters on a daily basis. For my entree I had porgy, dressed with lemon and thyme. Simple and a wonderful flavor. I loved it. We also had the roasted carrots( spiced yogurt, cilantro, and sesame) and potato leek gratin (Swiss chard, cream and fontina) to go with our entrees. Perfect additions to our meal. We ended with apple cake (sour cream comes on it) it quite simply could be one of he best desserts in Millbrook. To end, the service was great. Look forward to many more dinners at Canoe Hill. All of our friends that have gone have had the same experience as we had and have nothing but good things to say about the place. We are excited!! I love Canoe Hill! Great drinks, food and atmosphere! The $1 oysters are worth the trip!! My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because I made the drive out twice on days that they are posted as open and I only found out after arriving that they were not open. I checked their Instagram before making the trip and there were no indicators. I don't have Facebook but a friend said it was posted there. Canoe Hill has raised the bar in Millbrook. Decor is the quality I see in Brooklyn and Manhattan at some of the better places, staff is professional (mostly, I noticed some serious growing pains last year), but regular staff are excellent. I love Canoe Hill! I spent my 40th birthday here with dear friends. We drove an hour to check it out. We had delicious cocktails, wine and oysters for starters. Then on to all kinds of tasty small plates like ricotta toast and roasted carrots. My favorite though, is an absolutely delicious warm porchetta over polenta. On a cold winter night, the atmosphere was perfect and cozy with all that beautiful wood, woodstove fire, and relaxed lighting. The service was excellent. This is by far the best kept gem nestled in the Hudson Valley. We will all be back again! read more

This last Saturday I had the pleasure to dine at Canoe Hill in Millbrook ,NY. I must say that this restaurant gives new meaning the words "hidden Gem". The entrance is located next to the diner on main street and is set back from the road. When we entered, we passed by the upscale bar and were led to the main dining room in the back. We were seated next to a wood burning stove that added warmth and a great atmosphere to the room. On the menu they have a list of several oysters that come from different areas of the United States as well as Canada. While reading our menus I heard several people commenting to the staff how great the oysters were, but they are not my thing so we ordered the shrimp cocktail. We received four large shrimp at a great price and found them to be some of the freshest shrimp we have had in a long time. The menu is made up of a large selection of small plates and salads as well as other items. My wife and I ordered an assortment of items including olives (mild and firm), Mushroom toast and fresh goat milk ricotta on toast. They also have entrees and we ordered the porchetta with polenta and a grilled cheese sandwich. The porchetta was so tender it fell apart with a fork and had a great mix of flavors. The grilled cheese was creamy with a crunchy bread and just the right amount of tang. As for the desserts, Sorry I can't comment as we were not able to fit them but will be back to try. All this being said I would recommend trying this restaurant soon before everyone finds out about the great food. Before I end this I also have to comment about the staff. The staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and how each item is prepared and did not hesitate to answer any questions in a friendly manner. The items ordered came out with perfect timing and empty dishes just disappeared. I know that my wife and I will be returning soon and also look forward to trying one of their specialty cocktails at the bar with some small plates. read more
