The character at this place is off the charts! It definitely has a vintage appeal, but I am talking authentic vintage like the chairs may have been used by the builder back in 1790! These guys haven't been sourcing vintage items on eBay to outfit the place and when you meet the crew that runs it you will understand what I mean. They are working around the clock to cook breakfasts, clean rooms, mix drinks and prep dinner. For the price I found it to be an amazing experience! The room was extremely cozy, the bar was welcoming, and somehow they kept the carpets clean all weekend despite salt, sand, and snow the whole time we were there. Abby was so kind and handled our every request from Breakfast to bar to the Saturday night Buffet dinner which was incredible!!! The whole town shows up on Saturday nights for it and I understand why! The bread pudding alone is worth the price of admission which is pennies!! They offer discount lift tickets at Belleayre and it was a short drive to Phoenicia, the Peek-a-moose restaurant (highly recommend), and literally 1.5 miles to Belleayre. Homemade small bites are affordable and very tasty. We arrived when freshly baked chocolate cookies were hot out of the oven. They smelled intoxications and we couldn't resist! And since it was a cold winter day, we opted to share some carrot ginger soup and a grilled cheese. We enjoyed everything, as well as our long conversation with the friendly owner. Foxfire felt incredibly cozy and inviting when we came here on a Saturday night to celebrate a new beginning soon. I mean...this is the kind of place you want to linger a little longer. Our server was pleasant and took his time answering my questions about whether certain dishes had mustard, mustard seed, mustard powder or Dijon. The Japanese Caesar salad sounded great on paper, but something told me to ask. Since mustard is usually part of a Caesar dressing and theirs didn't list it on the menu, I figured it was worth double-checking. Sure enough when I asked, it called for it. Next. We started with olives and creamy- but offbeat crab cakes. The cocktails looked great on paper but missed on strength. When both the starter and the drinks strike out, you get ready for a 3rd. Thankfully, the main plates kind of saved the night. Hubs liked his deconstructed "Farmhouse Chicken," sliced in 3 pieces ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and my Branzino was delicious. The wind of the water was a little chilly, especially at night, but it was not by any means impossible to enjoy the surroundings. The accommodations are these single-occupancy cabins in little groups. Mine had a heated bathroom floor that I was a big fan of. While it is a cabin, the water and climate control are up to par and there is wifi in a somewhat dodgy signal area. It was comfortable and offered a nice view, and there was never any interference from other cabins so you get a nice private feel. The rest of the campus included things like firepits, waterfront seating, a semi-sheltered outdoor dining area, and a fully enclosed hall used as a meeting space. A variety of ruins are not used for anything, but are there to be viewed and offer aesthetic intrigue. You certainly could not accuse them of failing to deliver a brickyard; there are bricks everywhere. Views across the water show bridges, and a lot of leafy greenery in an area that includes Bard College on the other side of the river. There is a separate public beach, but the hotel area is fenced off. I stayed for two nights and did not leave the entire time, which is unusual for a traveler like me, but I never needed to. They had some spa services but frankly I just didn't have time. Their food operation was adequate; they did offer menus with labeled options for special dietary needs. It was only two or three items most of the time (or there were buffets for some meals); it's the kind of American cuisine in which the vegetarian option is mostly vegetables and can be kind of light. This was an event and a visit to a new region for me, and it overall made a good impression.

Once you get there it's like you're a continent away. The place is organized along the Hudson River. Beautiful modern cabins, a great restaurant on the water. Tons of open space, trees. there are loads of choices of spaces for your event. A huge covered space that fits 500 easy, and is on the river. There is also "the mansion" which is stunning. Up on the hill next to the more modern retreat center, the Mansion has 13 bedrooms, and gorgeous grounds. perfext for a smaller wedding, or wedding party. I was just at Hutton Brickyards for The Festival (A Broadway version of Coachella.). It was the ideal venue -- room for stages And shows but also plenty of lawns and tree for enjoying the view and connecting with friends. If you are looking for an event space, you cannot do better.

It wasn't until I started going to Georgie's with my girlfriend and our friends that I really started to like Hyde Park. Georgie's is definitely in my top five favorite bars I've been to, possibly top three. Keep in mind, I've been drunk across the United States and a good portion of Asia (Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, and I got drunk in Laos once but sitting on a bench drinking by yourself doesn't quite count as a bar), so this is no small compliment. There's nothing special about the bar - it's got two pool tables, some lotto machines, a pretty basic selection of booze and beers, and pizza and snacks. What brings me to Georgie's is the people - the bartenders are all really nice (usually!), and the owner, George Ose, is there every night. Georgie O's is my hometown bar, now, so I love it. I'd definitely recommend coming for karaoke night, which goes down every other Friday, I think. Usually on those nights there's a good crowd of kids from the Culinary Institute of America, and you'll most likely see me there, having a blast. There are other bars in town, but I was never a fan of the vibe at Crossroads (and that it's cash only, last time I was there), Mahoney's is usually too college-y (that's fine every now and then, but I had plenty of that in college), and Darby's is more of the same, I hear. If you want a nice, chilled out bar with none of the bullshit, Georgie O's is the place.
