April was a dream to work with: So knowledgeable, helpful, and always available for both big and small questions/concerns. She even gave us the best last-minute decor suggestions during our ceremony rehearsal. We absolutely cannot imagine the wedding planning process without her! As for the space, we fell in love immediately. Senate Garage was the perfect in-between space for us: Not a ballroom or a barn or a loft space; a space that could be customized, but was absolutely stunning on its own. The exposed brick felt unique and the historic grounds felt so perfectly us. We walked away feeling like we found our venue. The venue comes with a few pieces of furniture, including stunning farm tables and chairs, and a few chairs and a sofa for extra seating! Our wedding was in early November so both the ceremony and reception were indoors. While the grounds are stunning, we absolutely loved our indoor ceremony. It felt very intimate. I had the tiniest bit of worry about having the room turnover between the ceremony and reception, but the Senate Garage staff (including our amazing caterer Bridge Creek Catering) were absolute pros. Everyone was absolutely shocked by how quickly everything was put perfectly into place. The bar service, which is handled through SG/April, was also incredible. We recommend working with quite a few of their preferred vendors, as they know the space extremely well and Senate Garage clearly does a great job of vetting the companies they work with. It will make your wedding process so much easier! Kingston has always had a special place in our hearts (one of our first dates was at a bar across the street), and we couldn't imagine a better place to get married in the city. April and her team at Senate Garage helped us throw the most perfect wedding that we will remember forever. We cannot thank them enough. If you're looking for a reception venue, look no further!

Despite our event being a wedding, I could see this space used for corporate retreats, conferences, expos, etc -- I'm excited to see what other events are hosted here. It has a truly unique vibe that's unforgettable. We hired a 3rd party catering company who used the venue's kitchen -- they delivered an amazing meal to our guests. This venue also has access to a very nice park that is adjacent to the venue available during your event for a small additional fee. The venue allowed us access to special parking the day before the event for set up and decoration. For guests, there's street parking and a large municipal parking lot close to the venue. I'll reiterate, the space is gorgeous! It has an extremely unique vibe that made our event unforgettable.

Per our signed contract, appetizers were supposed to be served to our guests -- they were not. This was a major part of what we paid for and an important detail during our wedding reception. After bringing this to their attention, I was offered $1,500, which I did not agree to accept, and I was told the owner would personally call me back to discuss the matter further. It has now been several months, and despite multiple attempts to follow up, I have received no callback and no resolution. What has been most upsetting is the lack of accountability and communication regarding the negligence of the maître d' and the handling of our concerns afterward. A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and while mistakes can happen, ignoring your clients after the fact is unacceptable. At this point, I am publicly asking for an owner to contact me directly to properly address this situation. I truly hoped for better customer service and professionalism from a venue with this reputation.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Linda and the Grounded team. They were kind and supportive as we worked through creative menu options and budget goals, Linda herself walking me through recommendations to customize the menu for our large crowd (a special dinner for 20) over a call that felt like I was talking with a long friend. I had reached out to three different groups as options for the event, and after this experience there was no contest that Linda's genuine excitement and creativity for showcasing quality and local ingredients (plus warm and amazing personality overall) was going to be a perfect fit. Linda not only delivered on what we planned but exceeded expectations by adding some just-foraged (that day!) fabulously fresh ingredients in a delightful bonus preparation. The proteins were perfectly executed, and I basically could not stop eating every single vegetable preparation -- the way these elements shined really showed what local is all about. Top that off with more great conversation, I couldn't have hoped for a better experience. I look forward to the opportunity to work with Linda and the team again!

"that room isn't ready yet, just a few more minutes." She took my cell number and said she'd let us know when the room was ready and we decided to soak up the A/C in the front lobby for a bit. 3:30 p.m. and... nothing yet so we opted to hit the town to explore and when we got the text we would come back. 5 p.m. and... still no text but we circled back figuring the room must be good-to-go by now. A different lady behind the counter seemed to make it like it was on us for the delay/issue. (So not cool, let's be real.) The room? Clean. The bathroom? Clean. The beds and pillows? Comfy, all around. The TV? Kind of weird... sometimes the picture blacked out, sometimes it went haywire, sometimes it was a-okay for a spell. Okay, we can live with (all of) this. (Even if our 'view' was the parking lot and Target across yonder.) Later we decided to snoop around. Gym - clean with a few machines, a bench and plenty of dumbbells. The pool was chilly and ridiculously chlorinated. (You might think I'm exaggerating but the next day the black drawstring on my boardshorts were now brown from the amount of chemicals I was wading through. No joke.) The hot tub was... kind of warm. We hit the lobby-lounge later in the evening for drinks and they had a decent selection of beers (all "the classics") as well as Starbucks, water, soda, some snacks, the usual. Check-out the following morning was easy-peasy. I'm not against returning in the future but I do think we'd see what else is in the area first.

The hot breakfast was also very good. My issue this time, was the Wi-Fi. It was horrible! I was lucky if I would get between five and 10 MBPS, and a lot of times, it was lower than five. The Wi-Fi would also periodically just cut out. I talked to the front desk about it, and they referred me to tech-support. When I talked to tech-support, they told me that the bandwidth . For the Whole hotel, was capped at 30 MBPS. There were so many people in the hotel sharing the bandwidth, naturally my Wi-Fi was horrible. Fortunately, I had plenty of data, and I was able to use my phone as a hotspot. I went next-door to the super 8, for a couple of nights and I continuously had Wi-Fi in excess of 60MBPS. The layout of the hotel is also completely weird with our room 4xx being on the 2nd floor in the second wing. Such a confusing layout and we're not alone. Check in and check out were both easy and efficient procedures. The front desk staff were nice and helpful during our stay. We found our room (Pearl Street Grand Queen) to be comfortable enough. We loved the fact that the Pearl Street building had the gym. We did go to the hotel restaurant one night and had a great time. Food and service were great. The continental breakfast and the free parking were nice touches. And we really liked being able to bring breakfast items to the room in the provided brown boxes. We did not mind the daily destination fee since we are used to such things at unique locations or hotels. The one and only crinkle was Housekeeping. *On our second day we saw that the floors were not vacuumed. This is important in the winter since shoes bring in even more debris even when they are removed art the door. We had to call and request the room to be vacuumed. *On the third day, there was no back-up toilet paper left in the room and so we had to go down to the gym bathroom to get a roll of toilet paper. (The buildings do not have 24 hr staff.) *On the fourth day the tissue box was empty and the housekeeping person had left the empty tissue boxes in the bathroom without leaving a new box. *Lastly when we got back home, I noticed an unrecognized charge on my card. When I called to inquire, turns out that it was a mini bar charge even though we had not consumed anything from the mini bar. The front desk attendant that I talked to was kind enough to remove the charge efficiently enough: albeit after an awkward exchange where he warned me "...to not be rude!" where I had simply said during the conversation: "...well yes, then go ahead and forward the request to management". That was interesting. Oh well. Kingston is an adorable town and we loved visiting the area. And we would stay at Hotel Kingsley again despite the bit with housekeeping and the awkward exchange over the phone.

We were asked by the hostess if we had a rez and did not, so we were told there was only ONE table free and the rest were reserved. When I questioned the hostesss and mentioned we had a show and were only going to be there an hour she said "do you want to see my reservation book?". Um, no, there's no reason to be salty - and we overheard her say it to others as well. Not exactly hospitable; there are nicer ways of saying things. We sat at said "only table" - which was right by the door and next to the hostess stand - and we were immediately greeted by a lovely young woman who seemingly knew nothing about drinks and food. My friend asked for a lighter type of beer, not recognizing the tap selection and was told she should get the ipa (there was a pilsner option and I recommended that since ipas are not light). I asked for a simple marg, rocks salt, and asked what premium tequilas she had and she noted the well and espolon. Those aren't premium; and she mentioned casa Migos - great! Only to come back 3 minutes later to tell me They are out of that and offered some brands i had not heard of, which is fine , but when I asked if they were blanco, reposado or anejo, she had no idea. Regardless of not knowing her stuff, she was lovely and attentive. So now comes the food. We wanted some Snacks to share and ordered the hot honey chicken, tempura asparagus and a special hash brown that was supposed to have crème fresh and some type of roe. Cool - the perfect amount to share in the short time we had. The asparagus were not shaved before frying so you couldn't really pick them up and eat them with your hands as they were stringy and came with a side of mayo. Not an aioli or anything seasoned - just mayo. You had to cut the asparagus into pieces. Could be worse but ya think maybe you could provide a dipping sauce that wasn't a spoonful of hellmans? The chicken was not hot, nor did it have honey, but it was fresh. The hash brown special did not have crème fresh - it was sour cream- a lot of it - and was very crispy, which was great after you scraped off the giant tablespoon of sour cream. Overall the food all fell short in taste, presentation and price (they are not shy on their prices, which is fine if the food, even this simple, was amazing). This could have been such a better experience. Between the salty hostess, untrained waitress (not her fault), and food that was mediocre, we spent $109 before tip. Yep - for 2 drinks, chicken nuggets, fried asparagus and 2 hash browns....I would have happily paid it for great service and great food. Again, our waitress was lovely, just poorly trained and not her fault. The hostess continued to be short w just about everyone who walked in - and we only knew that because our "only seat" was right next to her. Do better Kinsley - even Michael Kosta, who was the show we were seeing at the Assembly, made jokes about having to leave that night because the hotel was charging 13k a night (a joke but we all understood he was talking about the pricing). If you're going to charge top dollar, then be top service. Make it memorable, and not in a way that makes one write a review like this. Hugely disappointing; not recommending and will not be back.
