SUCH an interesting spot. I didn't stay at this Inn but walked a few houses down to see their cool bar. Littered with art including an original signed Picasso print, vintage pianos, etc. Fun games are available like darts, pool and even chess. Ignore all the negativity. This place is the last American gem left in the red white and blue. Everyone at the bar is welcoming even if you're an outsider. Ok - so I should be fair here because the owners are so nice and the breakfast they served up was sooooo good!! French toast, eggs, bacon, coffee! BUT sleeping at the inn was not a good experience, it was really run down. If you don't mind wallpaper peeling, water stains on the ceilings and walls, musty smelling rooms, mold in the shower and creaky (VERY VERY LOUD) old beds --- then this is a place you can crash!! The house itself is pretty cool, filled with antiques and friendly management, but it was just too run down to relax and get a good night's sleep for me. Wow! Very impressed with this restaurant. The buffet is one of the best I have every had. Everything from the meatballs, pasta, fried chicken, desserts were excellent. Same as the previous posts. Great owner, great breakfast and the room was not so good. I slept fine after a long hot day on the motorcycle. But my fiancé did not sleep. She has a "thing" about bad hitek rooms. The house could be amazing if it was fixed up. The bar is very cool with a pool table and dart board. The dining room is huge. I found this place by accident on Google. It is a museum/curio landmark in Pine Hill, NY which is deep in the Catskills! The owner, Steve Whitte, is THE MAN! It's really a B&B. The rooms are adequate but the real deal is the inn itself! There are relics from everywhere and I suppose that Steve is a real "picker". My sister, Wendy, and I loved the place so much that we did something that ordinarily we never would and spent an extra night there! We loved every moment and really enjoyed meeting the "locals"! I'm not much of a drinker, but Steve has the best motif and bar in town! If you love and appreciate the not so ordinary, by all means give it a try and don't forget the other real ambassadors, Ella(Golden) and Bella( Yorkie)!! read more

Loved this place! Stayed there over the weekend of New Years 2018. We were lucky to get in last minute due to some cancelations based on the extremely cold temps. The character at this place is off the charts! It definitely has a vintage appeal, but I am talking authentic vintage like the chairs may have been used by the builder back in 1790! These guys haven't been sourcing vintage items on eBay to outfit the place and when you meet the crew that runs it you will understand what I mean. They are working around the clock to cook breakfasts, clean rooms, mix drinks and prep dinner. For the price I found it to be an amazing experience! The room was extremely cozy, the bar was welcoming, and somehow they kept the carpets clean all weekend despite salt, sand, and snow the whole time we were there. Abby was so kind and handled our every request from Breakfast to bar to the Saturday night Buffet dinner which was incredible!!! The whole town shows up on Saturday nights for it and I understand why! The bread pudding alone is worth the price of admission which is pennies!! They offer discount lift tickets at Belleayre and it was a short drive to Phoenicia, the Peek-a-moose restaurant (highly recommend), and literally 1.5 miles to Belleayre. If you're not too bougie and are up for an experience that you can't get at chain hotels GO HERE, have a drink with Abby, Steve, and Heather and tell them Jay and Jordan say hello!!! read more

Came across Colonial Inn on one of those hotel booking websites -- and wow what a treat! Staying at the Colonial Inn is a little like booking a room in a frat house for guys over fifty. The bar area is terrific- there's a well stocked bar and friendly bartender, free pool table, free juke box and a cast of characters you have to see to believe! We kept thinking we were going to wake up from a very surreal dream.. The Inn is jammed full of antiques-- both trash and treasures, a taxidermied bear and more stained glass than a medieval church. Our first beer was on the house-- definitely greased our wheels. The guest rooms have nice antique furnishings, but the bathrooms are run down and water pressure is poor to almost nonexistent. Altogether the five of us had a blast at the Colonial Inn-- it's a one and done kind of place, admittedly, one night was enough for us. Colonial Inn & Restaurant - Bartender - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Pine Hill, New York

My family has been frequenting this inn for years. The building is on the National Registy of Historic Places and is located in the very small town of Pine Hill right next to Belleayre Mountain. Steve, the owner, is a great guy. Always in a good mood and cooks up some great food. For breakfast, included in the stay, he makes some mean eggs and french toast with bacon and tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. On Saturday nights he runs his Grand Buffet, and as far as I know lately it's a one man job back there in the kitchen. Now, if you are some rich Westchester skier up here with your cookie cutter family who all love to frequent Italian Bistros and purchase $65 bottles of wine then don't get your hopes up - this is not this kind of place. Steve has wines by the glass at $4 and is more interested in cooking a variety of home cooked dishes like mashed potatoes, pasta, chicken parm, etc. He is no Bobby Flay, but he knows what he's doing. Probably my favorite part is the dessert portion. If Steve has his bread pudding out do yourself a favor and grab it before everyone else realizes how amazing it is. To this day it is the best bread pudding I have ever had, anywhere. Nothing I have found compares to Steve's! As for the rooms located on the second and third floor, they are in need of fixing up, and have been for a while. But over the course of the past two years there have been some great improvements. Recently I stayed in room 4 right at the top of the stairs on the second floor. It was in far better shape that any of the rooms I have been used to. bathroom redone pretty well with new wainscoting and what appears to be fake tile flooring, but new flooring at that. My bedroom was carpeted which I believe was new as well. The furniture has been updated, as well as the bedding, but it still gives that 1800s charm that makes it so interesting and appealing. The bar is usually open on the weekends and is filled with not only guests but friends and locals in town. It's a fun place to play darts, shoot some pool and have a couple of drinks. Everyone is kind and friendly and loves to get to know each other. If you're lucky you might even find yourself there while a movie is being filmed! A few movies have been filmed there in the past and are actually on Netflix. Check out Stakeland. Many scenes were filmed in Pine Hill and the surrounding areas, including a few scenes in and outside of the Inn. If you watch closely you'll even see Steve! The Inn is a place that needs some love, but it's easy to love it there. It's no five star grand hotel but it is a nice, welcoming place to stay, eat, and hang out. read more

The only option for dinner at this Inn and Restaurant is the "Grand Buffet" for $14.95 per person. We had a party of 8 and had to be seated in the rear dining room - which was nice that they could accommodate us - The floor held us up was at a 45 degree angle where we sat. It was so sad that we just laughed at the shoddy condition of this building - it really needs some desperate care and maintenance. So we move on to the food. The Grand buffet consisted of about 15 aluminum/disposable chafing dishes filled with less than sub-standard quality food items. Most of the trays were empty. The salad was fresh and thank goodness - it was all I could eat. some of the choices consisted of an eggplant/ricotta/breading mush, some type of fish swimming in a white sauce, cold mashed potatoes, cold and too hard vegetables, a potato soup that tasted like watered down mashed potatoes, a few pieces of very fatty beef. These are the items that I can recall. The dessert table was several slices of different cakes and pies placed out on individual paper plates - and a tub of ice cream sitting out on the table melting. I completely understand that budgets/times are tight and businesses don't have big bucks to spend the way they want to - but really - this place should just close the doors - the lack of love and concern for their business is so obvious. read more

If you're a "foodie," or believe that the outdoors should stay outdoors -- if you think anything west of the Upper West Side is filled with those crazy Tea Party people, then this may not be the best place for you. If, however, you're a normal person, who enjoys hearty food, recognizes that you're in the Catskills in a VERY old inn, then you have found a gem of a place. The owner, his family and staff, as well as the other patrons are all welcoming -- to old friends and strangers alike. Saturday night's buffet is awesome; it's comfort food -- roast beef, fried chicken, salad, pasta, fish, corned beef and cabbage, etc., with two full desert bars where you (or your kids) can serve yourself and heap on the whipped cream! The room are not lavish; but they're clean. Yes, they have an old, musty smell, but it's an OLD inn. That's the smell of old wood, not new concrete. The owners and staff do a great job of making sure the room is clean, you have clean and fresh towels, etc., and will bend over backward to insure you have a great stay. If you like to ski, fish, hunt, hike, swim or do any other outdoor activity in the Catskills, then let the Colonial be your home base. read more

I had dinner last night here, and for the price it wasn't bad. If you want to "eat clean" this is not the eatery for you. Lots of sugar and cheeses in their dishes. If you are looking for more than beer or wine to drink, I wouldn't bother. I order an "Old fashioned" and was served something along the line of a bourbon sour. If you ever lived in or visited relatives who live in an old house you are liable to find a slightly musty smell in the place and maybe even some peeling wallpaper or stained ceilings. So what? We spent two nights there recently and experienced all three. BUT the room and linens were clean, the shower worked and did NOT shut off when the toilet was flushed as was written elsewhere. The bathroom was old but very functional and I didn't see anything disturbing. Believe me, we've been in other far "fancier" hotels with bug problems, dirt problems or non-attentive and/or non-caring staff members. You'll find none of that here. What you will find is an experience like no other and it is a pleasant one! The Colonial Inn is an OLD building and has all the ills that an old building has. That said, it ALSO has some of the friendliest, kindest and most generous people running and working at the place. After a long 9 hour drive to the place we were greeted by the cook who was taking care of the place while Steve, the owner, was out and about. The first thing he did was to offer us something to drink - on the house. As he told us, the first drink is always on Steve. He made sure our room was ready (and it was). It's not like going to a hotel...its more like going to visit an old family friend or favorite uncle and all the relatives are there to greet you. There are no strangers there...only friends you have yet to meet. The bar is a mix of the guests of the B&B and the locals. Everyone is friendly..drinks are REAL drinks - substantial - and not the kind where the bartender just waves the bottle over the glass. The building itself is an full of fascinating things of all varieties; old clocks, a 700 plus pound stuffed bear graces the lobby; old stoves; old chests and furniture; turkey beards and turkey spurs; wonderful old lamps on the tables; various stuffed heads - deer, elk, moose, etc. One of the most fascinating and friendly of these is the owner himself. Always there with a word to say or a story to tell, Steve really makes the place hum. And Steve is the collector of all things weird and fascinating. You can tell the enjoyment he gets from getting something really interesting at the auctions he attends. His eclectic sense of style really makes this place what it is. As you might guess from the reviews, this is a place you either really love or really hate. If your're the type who fancies modern hotels and fancy restaurants, this isn't the place for you. If you love charm with all the warts and enjoy the company of friendly people, this is the place for you! We LOVED our stay at the Colonial Inn, and if we ever get the chance to return to that area again we will certainly be talking to Steve about getting a room in his wonderful, creaky, slant-floored, fascinating, slightly musty, interesting, and friendly B&B. read more

I don't know if the good reviews for this place were from friends and relatives of the owner, but they are either blind or just lovers of rundown and dirty inns. The Colonial Inn was built in 1790 and looks like it. It is quite literally falling apart. The second floor has numerous weak spots in the flooring ( I was really concerned about falling through ) and one room is literally about 4 inches lower than the rest of the second floor. The entire house is in desperate need of repair. It is dark and dingey , and even though it is furnished with all kinds of "antiques" ,they haven't been cleaned in years. The multitude of stuffed and mounted hunting trophies only makes the place creepy. There is all manner of things on the front porch that really make me wonder just what the owners were thinking when "decorating" the place. There is a stuffed turkey, an old headless, armless mannequin, among the array of crap out there. This place IS NOT warm, inviting or in any way welcoming. DO NOT stay here. They really have no business passing themselves off as an Inn. Just from a structural safety standpoint, this place should be shut down. I only gave it one star as as you have to rate it in order to submit the review. I am not a priss, but for $105 a night, I wouldn't stay for free, you've got to be kidding me. read more

Colonial Inn and Restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. The website is very deceiving - This place is a total DUMP!! The rooms are falling apart they are old, moldy, smelly, dirty, and not functioning. The circuit breakers are constantly popping causing the electric to go on and off periodically. The heat isn't on half the time so I spent hours up freezing at night. If too many people showered at the same time their was no hot water and if you flush the toilet while showering the shower water turned off. I don't recommend eating at the Inn the overall conditions are so dirty and grimy the food is being made in very unsanitary conditions. read more
